I have to draw attention to your closing statement referencing narcissism because I absolutely agree with you that this current session with the self and inability to look outwards is underlying the whole vexed issue. As long as self obsession is promoted (see Prof Dennis Hayes paper on the rise and rise of therapeutic education circa 2010) in schools no kind of successful correction will endure. Count Arthur Strong was brilliant! Not only was the writing brilliant (The Day The Clocks Went Back is one of the funniest episodes of a sitcom I've ever seen) but Steve Delaney's Count Arthur is a brilliantly realised and performed character. If you haven't seen it then watch it now!
