2 Things. 1 I use a spray bottle and it acts like a smoker as well.I pull the frames one by one and spray both sides. Why does it only last a day or so though? Where does it go if the crystals don't evaporate off the bees? Just a simple mix of a table spoon or two per quart of just water and I think it works well. 2 Is that a bee keepers stack of boxes in the back ground or a bee keepers totem pole.😁
Hi Paul, Has your department looked at other ways of applying Oxalic Acid? Single yearly application of Oxalic Acid is no longer wise. In New Zealand the use of "Staples", from Dry Wall tape (dull porous type) in three layers and Cardboard Staples is the method of application throughout the beekeeping year. OA Sponges are another. It would be very interesting if your department investigated, monitored the methods. Being a leading University with a bucketful of knowledge on bees, your opinion and the University would be most respected. Regards
Hi D I haven't heard of this method and don't know what the materials you mention are. Could you send me a picture pgkelly@uoguelph.ca We haven't been recommending multiple applications of OA as it can be toxic to bees with repeat dosage. Thanks for the tip to consider.

85%? What's the other 15%? Check or ask for the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet). Or use the crystalline form, and also check that MSDS to make sure it's pure OA. It's used normally as a wood bleach, can buy it online, from hardware stores, amazon, loads of places. it's also not expensive. In these parts, a 5KG bucket is about $30

Hi Lynx
We like to have some fun. I figure it is the worlds tallest living beehive. It is until someone shows me a taller one. ;)
Good work, as always!
Thanks Jack!
That's a tall one in the back....
I'm wondering how they got it stacked that high too!

Hello, can I treat colonies 2 times with oxalic acid dribble, one time in October and again in December?
Thankyou so much for these videos 😊
Is there a temperature that is too cold to do this liquid application to the bees?
We are usually applying it at - 5C to +5C. I don't know if there is a lower limit.
You are very welcome Theresa.
Are you beekeeper?
Can you please tell me what the material you use for your inner cover? Thanks.
Please see our FAQ hbrc.ca/faq/ to learn more about our canvas inner covers.
Thank you!
Hello do you over winter in a single deep ?
We did a video on that topic. th-cam.com/video/cfO9DTl6SJc/w-d-xo.html
Is The 50ml dribble method is good to use in Ontario ?
Why you putted black box over the hive?
Wind protection and solar gain.
Could i use this instead of apivar?
Which is better oxalic or formic
They both have their place and can be used under different circumstances.
Love this video very helpful. I also cannot take my eyes off of the 20 foot high colony in the back. What’s going on with that?
We think it's the worlds biggest living beehive.
Just having fun with bees.😄
Thanks Daniel!

How to make Oxalic acid solution ?
See our website for a recipe.
is there anything we should know when searching to buy oxalic acid? are there different forms ?
No nothing just normal oxalic acid..
Hi there,
if we have oxalic acid as a fluid(not crystals), 85% solution, how much should we add to the recipe?
In these parts, a 5KG bucket is about $30
Is your application process & OA quantity the same if treating a double-deep colony?
Hi MIke
You apply 25 ml to the bottom brood chamber and 25ml to the top one.
I bought a faulty vaporizer, I am from sask. I have 3 hives (2 deeps ) ( one single) is it too cold for this treatment now?
We don't use vaporizers so I can't comment.
Maybe you meant Oxalic trickle. If there is brood no oxalic application method is very effective.
I'd use formic pro, single dose, when the temps work for that product.
Would it be beneficial to capture the queen prior to the drip treatment, then releasing her rather than dripping the solution on her also?
This method doesn't seem to harm the queen so removing her isn't necessary.
does diatomaceous earth harm bees?
yes
@@bsarge1015I use it around the bottom of the hive stand legs and under the hive to control hive beetles. Along with the hive beetle traps it works well and both my hives are in the shade.
I like what I see there. No risk of breathing in vapor
Yes, it is a very safe method.
My guess is when dribbling the liquid between frames you only need to dribble half way as what your assistant did.
Thank you for your informations,
Kindly please reply the link how to mix the solution i could not find it.
My besr regards
Nasser

I just can't get on board with wetting bees in winter. OAV for me.
Хотелось бы посмотреть, как башня из корпусов будет падать))))
Why don’t you spray down a frame rather than drip?
We do the application when the weather is cold. It's tough on bees to remove the frames at that time.

Apivar is insecticide.....I mean....NO!!! Thymovar is way better. Still thank you for all your video...I do Oxalic with Varrox spoon.
Had to switch this off sorry, wind noise is horrendous on my headphones
Hi Stuart
Yes it was windy that day.
We now record with a lapel mike hooked up to a cell phone. We get less wind noise that way.
