I took the train from Glasgow to Alloa, 2 times every hour, last week and I was pretty impressed. One of the hidden gems when it comes to buses in Scotland is the bus 52 from Alloa via Tillicoultry and the Wallace Monument back to Stirling. I have actually put Alloa on my annual trips to do as the train tickets are reasonable (£ 16 return) and the coffee and breakfast at the Wetherspoon (The Bobbing John) was very good & cheap. Alloa is for me a new discovery and I will be back. That combined with a climb of the Wallace Tower (did it last year but a broken toe meant no climb last week). Take the train to Alloa and then the 52 bus back to Stirling and you will be both happy and impressed.
The ILiveHere ' survey' was based on two comments. I grew up and still live in Alloa. It has many problems but people are friendly, the history is great, the countryside is stunning😊. Unfortunately there was a lot of urban planning , sixties style but we have kept a lot of our bonny old buildings.
No way- was thinking more people completed the survey than leaving comments. But that makes complete sense - the survey isn't representative. Alloa is a lovely town and we'd definitely go back. 😊
Great video of Alloa but not one mention of Josh Gavin, one of the most famous Scottish Judo players in the world, grew up in Alloa. He was the World Masters Champion in Judo at the age of 35 in 2001 and he carried the Olympic torch in 2012 and he sadly passed away in 2013.
Josh and family were like cousins to me intact I visited his Mum's house a lot when I was growing up. The Gavins always went to my mother's sides weddings and events. I miss him a lot, he was the best. ❤
My wife and i used to go there now and then and found it to ok, no worse than anywhere else. We live farther away now so we don't go as much. We found it to be an alright wee toun.
@@terrifictraveltales the reason people think it's depressing is probably the amount of junkies who loiter around the bus shelters, that might have something to do with it
The title of this video does not really encourage me to watch it but I gave it a go and it was not a bad place. I liked the tower. The trouble with these so called surveys is that they encourage people to paint an amusing but inaccurate picture of a place and subsequent comments try to outdo each other in tales of street crime, drug use, teenage pregnancy, unemployment etc etc.. There may be a grain of truth in this but I'm sure there's plenty worse places. You should have checked out the Wetherspoon that would tell you a lot about a place. Thanks for giving this a try but I do prefer your trips to some of the beautiful places Scotland has to offer.
Thanks for taking the time for watching, really appreciate it!😊 We take these surveys with a pinch of salt as often, as you said, they paint an inaccurate picture of the place they're describing. Alloa is a place we've never been to and it definitely seemed that it has plenty to offer. 😊
@@terrifictraveltalesthank you for being so nice about Alloa. Yes, it has it's problem s but it gets unfairly criticised even by locals. Heck, even the local paper published this article. I think only bored teenagers post comments on ILiveHere😅
Lets NOT go to the crap places , we will just go to the nicer cleaner parts,, then state , awe its not to bad......show the lot ffs or get AF youtube, p/s you can hear the banjo's

Sounds like a great trip-thanks for sharing!😊We'll need to follow your itinerary and take the train from Stirling to Alloa and the bus back😊

Alloa looks ok from this. I think they reopened the rail station there recently. Now if you want depressing towns surely Cumbernauld is your man!
Haha I've never been to Cumbernauld!😀 Yea, Alloa turned out to be pretty nice -just shows that this survey wasn't representative!
Wick is the most depressing imo. I left after 30mins because of the hopelessness I felt. Its actual depressing.
Alloa is nice area, dollar glen is great walking trail with wooden bridges
Yea, Alloa is really nice😊Good shout - will add the trail to our list😊

That's exactly what we thought, too!
Alloa's ok, I have family who live there, great vlog guys! like 3. 👍👍
That's cool! Think Alloa has got a lot to offer😊Thank you😊

It's definitely cumbernauld.
Even the King Charles, said it was a carbunkle.
Haha. Haven't been to Cumbernauld yet, but may be an idea for a future video. Thank you!
ALLOA APPEARS TO HAVE ITS OWN SOCIAL PROBLEMS, BUT MOST CERTAINLY IS NOT THE WORST PLACE IN SCOTLAND AND HAS A NOT BAD WETHERSPOON.
It definitely isn't 😊
really has no one been to Falkirk town centre recently ?
Been to Falkirk a few weeks ago, but not the town centre. Will need to visit some time😃
or Beith ?
The town is going down , but retail parksand big supermarkets partly causing that. Same story many towns
Agreed - sadly, there's a similar trend across towns
Yeah and online shopping too is taking business away from alloa town@terrifictraveltales

@@evelynwilson1566 We've actually got a trip planned to the Ochil Hills🙂

The only good thing to come out of Wick is the road South. 😂

You should definitely visit Scotland, it's beautiful 😊
Obviously didn't stop in Cumbernauld !!!
No, but think I need to visit😀
What's it called?
It has a brewery... Cannae be that bad!
Now that's a fair point😄
@@terrifictraveltales it used to have around 9 breweries, the asda was a skol brewery, there was a maclays brewery opposite the bus stances
I read somewhere that at one time Alloa had the largest brewery outside Edinburgh, third biggest in Scotland with largest maltings capacity.
You been in the wrong place. Lived in Alloa most of my life and th3res more depressing places within 15 miles
Thanks for your comment- appreciate the perspective from someone who knows the area.

Scotland's most depressing town...blimey. Where do you even start?
😃
What a silly, pointless, juvenile video 👎🏻
Thanks😃
What a silly pointless comment
Alloa is not as bad as Dunoon
Have only been on a flying visit to Dunoon-maybe need to visit again!😄😊
