I remember leaving the railway station and seeing a music shop opposite called “Ayr Guitar “. Best name ever for a shop! We went in early spring, it was quiet then also.
About the lack of shops at the seafront, not worth it because 8 months of the year the seafront is dead, Scottish summers is four months at best to have weather for people to go to the beach in any numbers. Also the seafront is quite a bit away from bustle of the town centre, Ayr was built around the river for commerce rather than the seafront, unlike Largs or other small coastal towns where they are built at the water's edge but still part of their town centre zone.
Really enjoyed your vid of Ayr. Like most Scottish seaside towns, Ayr has seen better days but IMO Ayr is no where near the worse seaside town in Scotland. Ayr races, Burns, huge beach and Prom, gardens, stones throw from Prestwick airport, Royal Troon on its door step and loads of local history and excellent public transport links to Glasgow. The town centre is in decline but I've never known Ayr to be a top shopping destination.
I was in Ayr recently between 4 and 6pm and hadn’t been for a long time. I found Ayr noisy, pestered by a battery powered road sweeper at Boots at the iconic clock tower. Ayr streets would have been faster cleaned by a man with his brush and shovel with a lot less drama and not achieving not very much. If Ayr is able to keep hold of its quintessential High Street buildings it has hope. If they’re neglected and replaced with modern design Ayr is finished. Ayr’s High Street changed to a one way Street decades ago and sucked the life out of it. I remember the Ayr of the 70s and 80s; Ayr’s glory, charm and authenticity is with its stone buildings. The Tam O’Shanter building in your film was being re-thatched so hope there. I left a Ayr to the noise of Responders hanging in the early night air. Pity Ayr didn’t have its fishing boats still employed.
Back in the 80s , my hometown of Airdrie , ran bus trips to Ayr for the day every Fair Monday. Whether it was sunny or raining we headed for the beach regardless. We made our own fun joined by many friends & neighbours. Picnics on the big park before heading down to the beach. Later on fish n chips . The alcohol flowing also . I have brilliant memories made in Ayr & I would recommend visiting if ye haven’t already.
Ayr used to be a great shopping town, but like most towns there are loads of empty shops due to huge out of town shops out & loads of drug related problems .
Leven in the East coast is far worse than Ayr, It even has a dirty great big oil rig a few hundred meters out on the shoreline. There's a lot worse than Ayr.
Sorry I had to switch off for the very first time, I'm sick to death of Burn's, it was drilled into us in primary school, also his secret pals kept all non believers from working, apart from menial jobs of course. My "best man" upsticks to live in this scoundrels toon. Well he is one of them, O I canny wait for the "local" paper's in January as per. Just perfect to put under carpets and wipe ma feet. 😂
@@terrifictraveltales He he, I bet he can, unfortunately most of my family are of that ilk, if you're in Haddington there's a wee bit just outside Hadd to Humbie road apparently where his mum was born , methinks they meant the fields next to it. 😉 Remember East Lothian has plenty for your travels but I think someone called the drone man has just finished a vid on the three trails including castle's. A special one for you is Seton collegiate just before the longniddry duel carriage way, also the earl of wemyss huge house n garden's to name a few. All the best

😂That's brilliant! We saw an Indian restaurant called Ayr India with a plane logo outside of the restaurant. Can't fault Ayr's humour
Crackin' wee video, guys!
Keep 'em coming! 😊
Thank you -really appreciate your support😊

That's interesting- wasn't aware Ayr was built primarily around the river. Thanks for sharing 😊

I agree that the historic high street buildings play an important role in maintaining Ayr's character and appeal. It'd be a shame if this was lost.
Traveled all over scotland and ayr is certainly not the worst seaside town
Agreed!😊 Thanks for watching
It’s died a death like most towns but no way it’s worse than Stevenston, Saltcoats or Ardrossan 🙁
It's a shame that many coastal towns are in decline ☹️
@@terrifictraveltalescheap foreign travel is the reason. They are never coming back unfortunately.

Sounds like they were fantastic trips! 😊And I agree, would definitely recommend a trip to Ayr!

It's a shame that so many towns have faced similar issues that actually have a lot to offer
You should come and have a look around greenock it makes ayrlook like a bustling town
I visited Greenock a few months ago, and it was pretty quiet, but I assumed it was because I visited midweek!

Agreed- don't think Ayr is the worst. Will need to visit Leven - have only driven through😀
you should have gone to rozelle house
Good shout! It's on our list for the next visit. Thanks for watching😊
worst? i disagree!! did you have one bad experience and are still traumatised?
Not at all. Thought we made it clear in the video that Ayr is worth visiting
@terrifictraveltales you asked 'Is this Scotlands worst Seaside town ?'
