No other game lets you play Tiny Montana while fighting Pelé, Louis Anderson, Canadian Mario, and Canadian Luigi all at the same time. This damn art style. I remember seeing this years ago and not being sure if these were intended to be cutesy hardened gangsters or alarmingly violent toddlers. They’ve got moves though.
This is the most radically unhinged early 90s game I've ever seen and I LOVE IT XD ...Also those Zangief baristas in the overalls look like an absolute menace XD
Ok so immediately im thinking someone said "lets combine double dragon and the Warriors and b-boy culture and all of the cocaine available into one thing and then smoke that"
For the longest time, I thought Pea was heavily inspired by the late actor Herve Villechaize, who is best known as Tattoo from _Fantasy Island_ and the line, "The plane, boss! The plane!"
In my humble opinion, the best way for me to describe _B. Rap Boys_ is that it's so bad that it's good and vice versa. XD I'm honestly shocked to see this game pop up on the Flophouse channel of all places. To my knowledge, it's a spiritual, less-insane, and less-racist sequel to _DJ Boy_ instead of a direct one. Also, the North American flyer art seems to have more time, money, and effort put into it over the Japanese arcade flyer for once (go to The Arcade Flyer Archive for more details). Good video, and keep up the good work.
I played this game when I was around 10 in a cruise. I was enamored by it because I thought vanilla Ice background music was incredible for a beatemup. I never saw this Arcade ever again! You know I hunted this down when MAME was a possibility.
had no idea this was a thing but damn what a fun ride. Also you cracked me up with the “he don’t want none of this!” When in fact he was just waiting to kick your ass one screen over! 😂
I’m from Brooklyn NY and the version we got was DJ boys this version was not in any of our arcades and that sucks because this was clearly a NYC based game…..this didn’t come across my desk until at least 2010
Man, I remember playing this at a place called Skate City when I was a kid, and I loved it ever since. To answer your question, Matt, the name of the group that did some of the songs here is called 3 Stories High. 90s as hell hip hop, but not too bad. Hope that helps. 😃
I love that there is absolutely no context for who this rap crew is and why they're fighting rollerskating gang kids, mech suits, lady lion tamers, lumberjacks, and Bulk Bogan, Even Double Dragon had more plot than this. Still, what a ride!
I remember scrolling through MAME and just launching every game that was said to be working to see what I could discover....this one really stuck out plus beat 'em ups are in my list of top 5 game genres, so I knew I had to play through it. Played through it alone and with a friend on couch co-op. It's jank and an obvious quarter muncher, but one of the coolest beat 'em up themes one could think of.....I love the record scratch sound effect for Insert Coin. In the lion and circus fighting ring (about 21 minutes in), it looks like the girl boss has a very similar stance to Mai on the early Fatal Fury games...but this game may predate Fatal Fury 2....so maybe a coincidence. 🤣

From what i heard this was supposed to be a game based on the beastie boys, but they rejected the idea. great game with soundtrack included, although the last boss is a absolute joke to beat if you are trying to 1 credit the game.
D.J boy is the prequel, and has some hilarious (but racially offensive bosses) such as Aunt Jamima who literally farts on you. Later in the game you face a homeless man/hobo who tosses off his clothes to be a Chippendale stripper (with a hilarious walk cycle) B. Rap Boys came out i America first, and was later released in Japan as "B. Rap Boys Special" which rebalanced most of the game, and then Special was released in the US a year later.
@@marbles8641: Personally, I saw both the original arcade and Genesis/Mega Drive versions of _DJ Boy_ as a bizarre love letter to '80s American pop and R&B music videos based around and/or featuring elementary and junior-high-school-aged children and singers of the time (i.e., New Edition) while also mocking American culture from the perspective of Japanese people.
