Thanks a lot for the video. I have an R5C and 99 % filming and usually i use the usbc Port to power the cam from battery. Especially when i shooting in raw. Is the app also working using the HDMI out from the cam?
hi, thanks for advertising my app :). I just wanted to add that on Canon cameras the resolution of the picture will also be higher when using usb connection. Did you use a motorized lens in your video? I wonder why the W and T button showed up.
Hello! If we purchase the pro version does that provide app access across multiple Apple devices that meet min device requirement and are linked to a single Apple account?
Works well on iPad and iPhone with Nikon Z7 and Nikon Z6ii in EVF mode. Can adjust every core live shooting function for tripod landscape shooting, using both wifi and usb (use a decent data cable, not a cheap usb C power Cable) TB3 certified work trouble free. A very under rated app. Stellar performance!
I would like to use my iPad to trigger a (wifi enabled) DSLR camera that we would position near a bird feeder in our back yard. Can you suggest an app that would let me use my iPad to see what my DSLR is seeing and then trigger the camera remotely to take a photo? (By the way, I have not yet purchased the DSLR that I would use--I want to make sure I get one that would work with the app I seek.)
Thank you so much for this video. My R7 connected with the pro version of the app (bought the unlimited for 24.99) to my USB-C iPad Pro 12.9in. Happy filming everyone!
Hi ! Great video I’ve used this to set up my iPad and It’s been working great so far but today when I hit the record button on the app the recording was happening but the image got stuck and it just isn’t getting resolved
Thank you so much Thomas, I have been searching this type of app on iPad for a long time, it is great that it supports my "grandma" camera Canon 5D Mark II! Unfortunately I didn't get it work, I guess it is because I upgraded my camera firmware to Magic Lantern, have you ever tried to make this app work with 3rd party firmware? Thank you!
Thanks for this! I have been shopping for monitors to connect to my M50, and I had this perfectly awesome iPad Pro 11 that I use primarily for watching live streams and TH-cam tutorials😄😄
I was able to connect my 5D Mk IV to my mini ipad this morning using WiFi. Just ordered a USB cable to go between the two and bought the app. Thanks for this video!
Thanks A MILLION! I was looking for something to help with self portraits. This is PERFECT for that. I easily connected my iPad Pro 12 inch via usb to my R5 and R6 with no problems. Worked like a charm in minutes! So much simpler and easier then tethering to my laptop. You’re a life saver and I’m now your new subscriber. Thanks again!
Hey Thomas ~ I am a product photographer and I really need a wireless solution. You briefly hit on it but then went to wired. The last thing i need is a wire floating around a product shot set up. If you have a video dedicated to remote wireless monitoring please let me know.
Technically, this video is describing how to remote control your camera with an app, which is not the same as using your tablet as an external monitor. A video capture card (or adapter) is actually the best approach if you are truly wanting to use your iPad/Android tablet as a true external monitor. With remote control, the view you see on the tablet does not look like your Canon camera's screen. It looks like the remote control app's interface and just projects the through-the-lens video feed from the camera lens into the app's interface. Using video capture, you can literally see an exact copy of what you see in your camera's viewfinder or live view screen, including all of the native on-screen information overlays, real-time autofocus points, eye tracking and face detection activity, etc., fully mirrored onto the iPad/Android tablet. That is now truly using your iPad/Android tablet as an external monitor, and it's also very easy to set up!
Thanks so much! I am definitely going to try this for my Canon6D DSLR. Any thoughts on using this app with camera switchers? I wonder if this App can work if I connect my 9thGen iPad to my camera switcher ATEM mini ISO Pro. I wonder if I could use this app to make my iPad a monitor for the camera feeds. Like you said in the video, the feelworld monitors are kool, but tiny.
Thomas, why don't you answer the questions about latency? I want to use this for action and sports video, having the ability to change focus points. What is the time delay when changing focus points? What is the time difference between what is showing on the small built in display and the iPad? I use only Canon L glass with very fast focus. Thanks
Hi Thomas. This was very interesting to me because I am an astrophotographer and while I have software which will control my mount and other related tech aspects (the mount will slew to anywhere in the sky I wish it to), I also have another rig which does not allow computer control but which can track the stars and I can make fine adjustments to keep targets in the FOV. Now, here's my question (because this would be invaluable and I know it COULD be done - whether it is or not, I don't know): Would it be possible to superimpose a variable sized (determined by you) crosshair (preferably a double crosshair) on the view you look at on the ipad, so that, over a long exposure time (seconds to minutes - perhaps up to 30 mins), one could vary where that crosshair is placed on the ipad screen (the central portion of the crosshair may just be a few pixels in width (or diameter) such that one could place the crosshair over a single star and, by keeping an eye on it, one could then adjust (using directional buttons on the mount handset) to keep that star in the centre portion of the crosshair? Being able to do so would mean I could use my telescope anywhere, in any location, and make precise tracking adjustments to ensure I got pin point results whilst taking long exposures when, otherwise, errors in my mount and its set up would, over long exposures, create star trailing in the image. Hope this makes sense.
Does this app allow focusing? I'm assuming no, since you didn't mention it in the video. I've been using DSLR Controller for Android with my Canon Rebel T3i. The main feature I use is focusing via the tablet.
Thank you! Works perfectly with my 550D and you have no idea of how helpfull is this for me and for astrophotography. First, you can focus on a big screen, in a comfortably position, without to lay down on ground to watch the camera monitor, then you can access to all the parameters and very important it does have an intervallometer to allow multiple poses to stack in software the day after the session. Thank you!
Hello there, I have the exact same camera and I'm trying to connect. I have the camera connector kit for the phone. Would I connect it to AV out or mini hdmi?
You use the video in/out and NOT the mini HDMI. It works a treat with the EOS 550D. The only slight issue is that you can’t use a remote shutter device to control the shutter?
Hi there, could you elaborate on the connection ( cable ) you are using to connect the 550D on to an external monitor. Perhaps a link. I would be grateful. And are u using the A/V out Digital connector. What app do you use? Thank you for your help.
Hey Thomas! Thank you for this video. What camera are you using for this video? I love the quality of the video with the faded background. Would love to know if it's a camera or lens effect. Thank you!
Hi, As a student streamer I am wondering if this app has a view only mode without all the information on screen as I am trying to just slim down to an IPad only person. Either way this video is super helpful for my workflow so ty!
When I started the Camera Connect and Control app I was unable to connect my Canon R5 to my iPad Pro via the USB-C to Thunderbolt cable. I started with my R5 turned off and with the cable connected between the R5 and iPad Pro. Then I opened the CC & C app followed by turning on the R5. When I tapped on the USB circle nothing happened. Then I disconnected the cable and tapped on the Bluetooth circle in CC &C. When I did that the app did connect briefly but disconnected a fraction of a second later. I tried to purchase the app but it said that one has to connect the camera at least once before purchasing was possible. Finally I read a comment in this thread saying that the iPad Pro will connect to the camera using the Canon Camera Connect program. That worked beautifully so I use that app instead.
You are a bad ass. That is the best advise I have ever heard and it actually saved me money by not buying a screen since I’m using my iPad now. The one time lifetime fee for the pro is $20.99 very affordable. Thank you so much. 💯💯💯💯💯💯😎😎😎😎😎
My camera only has a HDMI port as well as the Canon type micro USB that they used to use. I think I will have to use one of the Canon cables that came with the camera as well as a little adapter for the USB end to make it into a USB-C to go into my iPad Air. That has to work… I hope… 🤗
Which cable I need to use if I have Canon Eos R5 to iPad 2nd generation? And do I can use usb c port to usb because I want to keep my iPad on the charger 🔌 as well

@WillKozushko I have four components in my setup, 1) micro HDMI to standard HDMI adapter plugged into my camera's micro HDMI output port, 2) connect standard HDMI cable from this adapter's output to, 3) capture card input, which is just a simple adapter device with standard HDMI input and USB-C output that performs the critical function of capturing the HDMI video signal and transforming it to standard USB video stream, which can then be plugged in to 4) any iPad or Android tablet running a USB/OTG video viewing app to view the incoming USB video signal. I prefer the "nExt Camera" app for Android, but there are dozens of apps available on both iOS and Android platforms that perform this function. The micro HDMI adapter and capture "card" (which just looks like an HDMI to USB-C adapter, but has the capture card built in) are readily available on Amazon from dozens of vendors.
@@davidkocherhans9971 THX for the quick response. I have an older 4th gen ipad (capped out with iOS v10.3.4, I think) and an iphone 6s plus, both with lightning ports. I'd love to re-purpose either, or both, as simple video monitors for my Canon T5i. After all of the googling around that I have done, I'm not confident that it's as simple as using a "usb-c to lightning plug" adapter to connect the chain that you have described to either device. Do you know if that would work?
@@KOZMOGRAFX Unfortunately, I don't have any experience using lightning as the final step in that chain, but I suspect a simple USB-C to lightning adapter won't get the job done (as you mention). I understand lightning to be a pretty low bandwidth format, and it just might not be possible. If you find any solution in your research, please reply and let me (and others) know here.
I’ve never owned a Sony camera so I’m not sure on this one unfortunately. However, to my knowledge, they do have a free version of the iPad/iPhone app so you should be able to test it out for free to find out if it will work for your particular camera.

Canon has a FREE app for the iPad that does the exact same thing. I own the 1Dx MIII and can tether wirelessly to my iPad and shoot wirelessly using my iPad, through the app. It's Canon CameraConnect.

If you find any solution in your research, please reply and let me (and others) know here.
do you think this works for Sony cameras?
I’ve never owned a Sony camera so I’m not sure on this one unfortunately. However, to my knowledge, they do have a free version of the iPad/iPhone app so you should be able to test it out for free to find out if it will work for your particular camera.
Doesn't work with Canon R5 C and 2018 12.9' iPad Pro 2nd gen. (lightning port)
I cannot connect it via USB to a Canon R5C. Anyone with the same problem?
I installed the App but the Liveview function did not appear, just to view the photos. I use Canon 5DMK4.
I have the same issue, but I am using a t3 camera. Have you figured out how to use the live view?
@@danielhideakimakita7613 About the t3 I can't say that it works my friend. I was able to run this App with the Canon 5dmk4, you can test it for 3 days free of charge, then it's worth buying the full version...
Eu acho melhor a full. Fiz o teste com o Iphone e Ipad, funcionou beleza.
@@studioandersonfaria how did you get this to work on your 5DMk4? I'm having no luck.
bummer its not possible to install picture profiles on camera connect app on ipad... bummmmerrrr!
ITS NOT LETTING MY START THE FREE TRIAL! 😭😭😭😭😭
The problem is that my iPad isn't black but white :)
Man half of the video is you talking to the camera, so hard to follow, why not show the app buddy?
Looks very laggy
Absolutely useless for canon M50 😢
If I have a/v output?
What I need to do?
Canon has a FREE app for the iPad that does the exact same thing. I own the 1Dx MIII and can tether wirelessly to my iPad and shoot wirelessly using my iPad, through the app. It's Canon CameraConnect.
WAIT BUT YOU CANT LIVE STREAM WITH THIS APP- you can just live view shooting
@@astrabula329 Live stream as in streaming photos/videos live online?
