If it’s more fun to drive, has a 7 year warranty and it is ultimately cheaper. The Kia should have won. This is a budget car test. The peace of mind a 7 Year warranty brings when you haven’t got a lot of money. Is hard to ignore. There is still a bit of Brand bias here. That’s my thoughts anyway.
It would have been fairer IMO to compare the 1.0 Kia with the 1.0 60 PS Up! rather than the 1.25 litre Kia. Performance and emissions for both 1.0 litre cars are similar.
Opinion, opinion, and truth. So its 1 and one. Why is everyone like you saying its biased obviously there is a bit but lmao the interior of the picanto is no way near as nice as the up!'s I have been driven in both cars and the vw does top it off. I have always wondered how and why VW gets to have better build guality. Where I live VW does not get rated to that degree. Kia and Hyundai design and build guality is regarded as fairly high here. So there you go. The badge bias you Brits project is still strong.
@@MI-Tech Wouldn't surprise me if it costs 200 Euro extra to get the metal painted. It costs 400 Euro extra to be able to connect your smartphone. I think the phone holder alone is 150 Euro. VW's extras book is thicker than the bible. 150 E for painted door mirrors. VW, No Thanks!!!
U guys clearly liked the Picanto more, but your biasness towards VW is crystal clear. U are shocked that a Korean car can be better than German car. Admit it. 😅
HAving driven both, no, the Up is amazing in terms of its feel. The Kia Picanto is a great car altogether but the feel of the interior and whatnot just is amazing for the price on the up. that plus a really nice gearbox setup if you choose the "slower" 60 hp variant goes a long way. Options end up being roughly the same equipment, i think the Kia was slightly cheaper fully equippied but it comes down to about the same. NOW, on the used market, the kia has the edge because many are still under warranty while the earlier model Up´s mostly dont and the Up DOES seem to have issues with the gearbox if it wasnt treated well, my Mii soon has 200k on it tho and hasn´t given me any problems other than a dead battery and a rattle with the Nav-holder. Its a great car altoegther.
There is a ridiculous obsession in the UK for German cars. So many on the roads on PCP lease deals I dont look twice. Im not impressed by any of them. All driven by show offs thinking everyone is looking. What a dreadful self obsessed society.
5:53 "but the VW's superior build quality makes it a better car to live with every day". You didn't do a longterm test, so your conclusion is effectively baseless.
KIA is more reliable anyways... i know it's not 100% decisive, because owners play a big role (not taking care of car, having old tires, etc.) but the german TÜV (equivalent to british MOT) ranks the VW Up! at #72 with 5.8% failing the test. The average failure rate for all cars is 5.9%. Now the KIA Picanto is ranked at #47 with a failure rate of 5.3% If we take a look at all competitors of the above video: Dacia Sandero ranked at #121 with 11.0% failure rate Fiat Panda ranked at #115 with 9.3% failure rate Toyota Aygo ranked at #81 with 6.3% failure rate VW Up! ranked at #72 with 5.8% failure rate KIA Picanto ranked at #47 with 5.3% failure rate MG 3 not included in the stats, because it's probably not sold here. Or atleast i haven't seen a single one yet. One of the best performing small cars would be the Opel Adam (in UK known as Vauxhall) which is ranked at #28 with a 4.4% failure rate.
Superior build quality is a massive over statement . If it is the case why don't VW provide a 7 year warranty. Also you could not spec the VW to the same level as the Kia is not an option. I have owned a Polo not that long ago I liked it but am more Impressed with the Picanto lots of kit fun to drive easy to live with
it is utter bullshite even. I drive a Picanto and a VW UP and believe me, the one with the superior build quality is the Kia. By far. Also, IN the car (where you will be most of the time) it feels very luxorious and complete. Not a piece of metal body visible, and only usage of the best and sturdy materials. The UP feels all plastic and cheap inside.
@@brycmtthw that's going off of manufacturer figures 😬 ... I took one out today actually for a test drive and was doing 35 MPG so, it's not like the claim some manufacturers make that is probably 10-15 MPG less than it is in the real world figures.
When you've got two cars that you equally like for different aspects in their character you shouldn't be afraid of declaring joint winners. And say why you'd want one over the other and vice versa. For those interested it gives a more balanced judgement on the cars.
I had a Kia picanto for 10years and is exactly what you say even if it was a older model. No issues at all, only wear and tear. Like you say, it's a blast to drive! VW is not as good at all, 7 seconds, come on guys!
KIA Picanto also performs better in german TÜV (equivalent to british MOT) which ranks the VW Up! at #72 with 5.8% failing the test. The average failure rate for all cars is 5.9%. Now the KIA Picanto is ranked at #47 with a failure rate of 5.3% Other results: Dacia Sandero ranked at #121 with 11.0% failure rate Fiat Panda ranked at #115 with 9.3% failure rate Toyota Aygo ranked at #81 with 6.3% failure rate
The Kia appears to be the clear winner here , yet the VW won due to 'better' quality !?!? despite it looking more basic inside & most people after a new budget car are not bothered if one make is built slightly better than its rivals , purchase price & running costs are what matter here , in this case a 7 year warranty more than compensates , giving you peace of mind that it is going to last.
@Fred Bloggs Why would I research the VW 1.2 TSI engine? It's not used for the VW Up!. The 60ps and 75ps 1.0 l engines used on the Up! are bullet-proof.
We have two Picantos, a 2 spec and a 3 spec, both torque converter automatics. Why have a 'city car' with a clutch? Goes great on the motorway too! The competition all come with automated manuals which have a very bad reputation for getting through clutches in 30k-40k miles which are not covered by warranty. Its the only one that comes with an alarm as standard! The VW will always be very expensive to repair but the Picanti will always be cheap to repair after the 7 year warranty expires.
I've never felt like the several Ups I've driven were better put together than the Picantos I've driven. Very specifically not so much better that it would make any significant impact on the "day to day living with". This confuses me a little bit.
Pleased with my 2020 Picanto '3' - more space & equipment than I ever thought I would get; plus, it's very well-built & generally doesn't feel 'cheap' at all. Some plastics in the interior are a bit cheap & cheerful with others looking very good. 1.3 engine was definitely the one to go for, but this seems to have disappeared in the new Picanto. Very stable chassis with good steering, great warranty. I would definitely get another!
Shame about the engine missing from the latest model. There are a few nearly new on Auto Trader with the 1.25 but probably not for long as the cost of petrol keeps going up.
Biased to VW. I would have had the Kia but if it was in the test Hyundai i10. Very similar to Picanto (same underneath) but somehow the Hyundai feels a better car. So I bought one!
We use to have a 2015 Skoda citigo Monte Carlo and it was a brilliant car. Replaced it with a bigger car 2 years later and this year got my wife a 2016 Kia picanto. I would say the citigo is a better to drive but the Kia is very close and both nippy. If buying new I would go for the Kia.
Regardless of the test verdict it proves how much fun it can be to have a slow car that you can drive to it's limits then to have a powerful car that you can barely use any of it's performance on the road without risking your license.
Ive come down from a 2.5 Subaru to a 1.6 Subaru and although its nowhere near as powerful, its a lighter car, more agile and very good to drive. Sounds ace when you get the revs up a bit. Proves its not always about power. Its the experience overall that I like when choosing a car. I have a clean license so far and wish to keep it that way.
The 90bhp up is a proper little warm hatch. Basically it's a VW up GT. The difference between it and the Up GTi is one gear ratio and detuned engine mapping. If you could remap the 90bhp up to 115bhp it would be effectively a GTI. The smart money choice. You can pick them up brand new for £11k...
Ridiculous outcome 🤣 the build in the Kia is vastly superior and best in class as there is no tinny bodywork on the inside of the doors. And if you demand a bit more luxury you can't even get a setnav on the UP a feature even the Aygo has optional. And just like you slammed the aygo for, the up also doesn't have regular rear windows, and is beaten for boot space by the Picanto as well 🤣 And you wonder why some of the audience in the comments think the outcome was a paid add? 😆
The Picanto has a bigger boot and disk brakes all round and electric rear windows! Picanto is the only 'City Car' that comes with a proper torque converter automatic. All the others have the horrible automated manual.
After rented the picanto both the auto n the manual i do agree it is just great drive.. The plastics is a bit naf but solid, the manual box has a great feel and less thirstier.. A kia i would not mind owning..
You'd think that the Brits had lost WW2. The Kia was a lot faster & significantly better in a number of respects. But apparently 'snob value' trumps 7 year warranty. As an Aussie of 180 years ago Brit/Anglo descent, I don't get it.
You hit the nail on the head. People today are easily sucked in. Just look at how many German cars there are on the roads on your way to work compared to non German brands. Its becoming silly really. The dealers are laughing at the muppets walking through the door, saddling themselves with huge PCP deals, with balloon payments they will never be able to afford, so if they dont want to lose money they have to trade it in for another expensive new one. Dealers winning again haha.
I did not regret buying my kia picanto and I like the physical look outside and I like the colour chilli red that I got.its so easy to manage and drive.1 year road tax free,3 yrs MOT free and 7 yrs warranty perfect.
We have Mk3 Picanto's in 2 spec Black and 3 spec White both automatics. Came with 3 years servicing. Done 15K miles and tyres and brake pads are only half worn. Clearly a great car.
The Up is not quite as sharp sharp looking against the revised Kia Picanto which beats up the Up. The Picanto is roomier, better to drive, will have lower depreciation, and comes with an astonishing amount of kit, including safety kit, as standard. Picanto has more HP, more torque, is funnier to drive (they laughted way more during driving the Picanto), has much more gadgets included by the base model, and a longer warranty of 7 years. The Up build quality do not impress me when you can see bare metal on the inside of the doors. Volkswagen did not even include hard plastic there.
KIA is more reliable anyways... i know it's not 100% decisive, because owners play a big role (not taking care of car, having old tires, etc.) but the german TÜV (equivalent to british MOT) ranks the VW Up! at #72 with 5.8% failing the test. This video is another example of the German brands fan club. UK roads are filled with Bmw, VW Audi etc. Nothing special about any of them. Its the perception and image that makes them popular because people are sucked in by clever marketing. They think by driving a so called premium car they will be treated differently, as if they are somehow better than everyone else. It never used to be like this. Now its all about image, look at me, posting on instawotsit and feckbook etc dreadful people.
@@oddities-whatnotI wouldn't buy a car just to look good. I would buy one because I like it. German cars (not the entry level ones) are usually faster, prettier and have way better interiors than others.
Another example of this show's VW bias. They said in almost every category that the KIA was better, but finally they couldn't help themselves giving it to VW. And look at those acres of painted metal on show in the VW! It needs marking down for that. We have the 1 litre turbo Picanto and the only thing I can moan about is the lack of an intermittent setting on the rear wiper!
So basically the MG was a good car but its economy let it down ... (I smell bias)... also you forgot to mention the 7 year 80,000 mile warrenty... it shouldve been a choice of the MG, Kia and volkswagen
I've got a little Picanto Gt Line (if it's worthy of the GT tag...), it makes sense as a cheap commuter car, costs me the square root of nothing to run. Lots of things I dislike about it and I'd always rather be driving my old Land Rover, but the handling is great - chuck it into bends and it takes commitment to make the tires chirp.. very safe handling little motor and quite entertaining, just keep the engine fizzing.. Dislikes...? The A pillar blind spots, rather asthmatic engine which isn't exceptionally economical and much too light clutch. Otherwise, it actually seems pretty well screwed together and for the money, very well equipped. In two years, it's given absolutely no issues. I also never thought I'd need a reversing camera, but it's brilliant- turn around in the tightest of spaces, effortlessly.
I have the citigo Monte Carlo and the GT line s picanto and for me the Kia is my fav out of the two.So much better to drive and the handling is awesome.
I had the Citigo new about five years ago, the clutch felt weak and noisy. The UP has the same problem. Doesnt feel like it would last very long. My Subaru on the other hand, the gear change and clutch all feel solid. Lot more confidence in that.
Kia is a good car, learned to drive in one and now I have the 2015 model automatic and love the way it handles. Seats are comfy and always reliable. 1.2 litre engine handles like a dream
Totally BIASED test. I love 5th Gear but with this particular test, the guys made their minds up about the UP. It was going to win no matter what. Shame on you, Plato and Johnny
I Hate like every car review where the UP shows up it wins all the time, cant believe it... The picanto looks way better, drives better and have a 7 year warrenty. Clearly a paid add..
I have driven them both as daily drivers. The VW Up for 2 years and now the Picanto since 2,5 years. You guys claim the VW has a better build quality, but you know what happened me with the Up and what happened me with the Picanto? Pretty funny; The Up had bent brake disks at the front (twice!), it had 2(!) gearbox changes because there were metal particles scraping in it, one was an overhaul. The airco failed right away from the factory, it leaked. The door had water in it because some hole was clogged. The cap of the wiper at the back just fell off when I closed the trunk. A protection plate of the brake disk broke off once. Two shockbreakers had to be replaced after 20.000km.... Like dude, wtf? All this for a brand new car in 2 years? Since I have the Picanto, I have never been to the garage, only for regular maintenance. And no, I don't drive like a maniac.
I just did basically this in real life ..... except I bought a Fiat500 - way cooler (all subjective) vastly better build quality than expected, great infotainment system (My wife has a Tcross - apple carplay and the VW sometimes fall out with each other and touch screen does not always register the "touch" - Fiat surprisingly perfect) gutless as this level of cars are, but such a laugh to trash - yet copes with a long motorway trip perfectly well enough if needed. So my winner was not even considered ... happy with my choice? - it's why you see so many, it's still a brilliant car ... love it more each day !
Good luck. In the german TÜV (equivalent to british MOT) the Fiat 500 ranks worst out of all above cars. Fiat 500 = 11.3% failure rate Dacia Sandero = 11.0% failure rate Fiat Panda = 9.3% failure rate Toyota Aygo = 6.3% failure rate VW Up! = 5.8% failure rate KIA Picanto = 5.3% failure rate
@@SuperGeronimo999 It's in reality my/our 3rd - my Abarth did 35K miles in the UK no issues whatsoever - my wifes 500 1.3 diesel did 125K miles UK giving no issues other than one door handle became sticky (replaced under warranty) so other than main dealer servicing, it was crazy cheap to run with no issues - arriving in Portugal we wanted a change - so Mrs M has a Tcross, thought we could live with one car, but needed two - again tried not to boringly get the same car, but driving the other things on offer the just do not give you the "grin" a 500 does - you could argue its faults are charming and add to the character - but also we have a great experience with them and this 2019 model is much better built than the 2 UK ones - they are everywhere here, every second hire car is a 500, so not convinced hire companies run cash wasters - just hit 11K in the new one (km) and its 100% fantastic - pop the roof down and amble around in the sun - perfect 😎they are not for everyone, but speak as I find, well made for the price, reliable, cheap yet fun - as an aside I had an X5 Beemer in the UK, never worked useless car knew the recovery drivers by name :) - last car in the UK an M140i, utterly brilliant so all makes have some bad ones - Plus anything not German would not fair in their testing 😂
If you need to go budget then the Skoda or Seat badged versions of the up would be a fairer choice. However when every £ counts it's Kia all day long, 7 year warranty, tell me why i'd not want that ?
Talk about out of touch overpaid motor journals🙄. Shocked that a car that costs a "mere" £10K should have decent build quality and performance. For the average punter ten grand is still a big purchase, if I spend that much on a little hatchback you can be damn sure I expect it to be well screwed together. The only sensible thing they said was that they are maybe paying too much for the prestige cars; well duh, of course you are. The car manufacturers love to sell the fashionable top end stuff because the margins are so much bigger than they get for the family hatchback/saloon, where they make pennies. Just because you spend £30K on a car doesn't mean you get three times better than any of these. If you really want value never buy any car new, let someone else break it in with a few thousand miles on the clock then buy it for a lot less than the showroom price. Basic knowledge any shrewdie knows right?
Goes to show how fun little cars can be. I love my golf gti but half the time you'll see me in the Mrs' s fiat 500 because it's so much fun to drove a tiny piece of tin with no power!
I had the previous shape Picanto, and I tested both the 1 litre three cylinder and the 1.25 four cylinder. I got the 1 litre and to be honest it was a nice sound three pot, the gear change feel was superb. Only reason I got rid after a few months was I couldnt get comfortable and the suspension clonked over bad roads. Pity really as it was a good car to drive. I believe the new model is hugely improved, plus if I got one again id get the 1.25. As for this road test of these bargain new cars, some snobbery going on I think. The Sandero stepway is a comfy ride over any surface (im in the motor trade) so I have no idea why they say it isnt. Perhaps they are comparing to a Range Rover. As for the rest, the comments from the presenters are just ridiculous. These are BUDGET cars for people who cant afford so called premium cars which I think is whats wrong today, people are obsessed with image. Ooh look at me in my BMW. Why ? Mostly PCP leased, its not yours is it so why would I be impressed ? I would rather live in a nice house instead of wasting my money on a fancy badge. Im not a show off so I dont care what anyone else thinks. As you have guessed I drive a Subaru. I like the fact you hardly see any on the roads. More exclusive in my opinion plus they are tough long lasting cars. Anyway, cheap cars should be treated as such and with the respect they deserve. Nothing wrong with any of them for the price. The 1.25 Kia is the winner here for me.
picanto is more fun to drive .. it’s power steering felt much more natural and give intensive driver feedback that tiring to drive for a long journey .. but all i can say it can create a smile on your face everytime you drive it to work the only issue is a bit underpowered .. better to get the GT 1.0 turbo version but only the 1.2 option were available in my country
I've driven a picanto, and it's just souless imo, the VW Up! is technically inferior but it just has an infectious personality, it's why after test driving both i went with the up hands down.
On Asian market, I prefer Kia Picanto over other brands from competitors on the same segment, hatchback segment. Though Kia Philippines only have 5 years of warranty, it was already damn good. Unlike for Toyota Wigo/Agya, an asian hatch, it does feel cheap. Kia is on the durable-premium side. So Kia Picanto is the winner forr me.
The Picanto ranks better than the Up! on german TÜV (equivalent to british MOT) for a reason. The Up! is just a bit better (5.8% failure rate) than the average (5.9%) while only 5.3% of Picanto's are failing.
Conclusion could have been given at the start… what a huge disappointment… my current car is an Up, but the next car will def be a Kia. Because More power More warranty Better drive More room Room for 3 in the back instead of 2 in the up Normal windows in the back Better build quality fades this all away??? That’s not a test, that’s a Up promo…
I like my picanto and I think it is more for everyday driving because for race i would change suspension (it is quite soft on corners) and actually only this...
Another thing to consider is the picanto has disc on all four corners the up has drums on the rear so the picanto stops faster I've ordered the picanto GTS with the 1.0 turbo engine I'll be taking delivery October after testing the up gti and the picanto GTS the Kia was the better car
How is the VW up better than the kia when the boot is tiny it’s square it has a 3 year warranty but kia does all that it looks nice bigger boot bigger car and has a 7 year Warranty and it’s better built
as the matter of fact, i own a 2013 1.2 picanto the thing is a tank. It does the job pretty well to the college and back home no issues. The only thing i can rant about is the clutch mine is manual and when it works is quite a piece of engineering, but when it doesn't is pain in the a**.
Kia =more power, fun to drive, better looking, more gadgets, arm rest, hand handle(grip), 7yr warrenty, better in everything so why VW? its your old minded bias thoughts..... Silly n stupid. You just lost your credit frm lot of people around the world.
LOL, one car was faster, had a better warranty, has great customer service, has a track record of looking after it's customers if things go wrong, and then there was the other one.
Best cars for circa 10K: Hyundai i10, Kia Picanto, MG 3. But the MG is the most sporty to drive, has the most room, is the most practical, and is best on the motorway. Unless you live in a very flat area or do a lot of miles, the extra cost of fuel for the MG will be negligible. If you live in a hilly area or do a lot of motorway miles, the MG may even be more economical. The 1L 3-cyl cars, especially those with a turbo, suck fuel going up hills. And turbo or not struggle on the motoway. Hyundai or Kia with the 1.25L 4-cyl are the best overall, taking quality into account. New MG 3 isn't that far behind and also has a good warranty. It's also the best car to drive, even if it is a bit more agricultural. Personally, I like all three. If I were buying with my head, I think I'd probably go for an i10 1.25 over the Picanto even though the warranty is two years less. Secondhand I'd go for the Kia 1.25 because of the extra warranty. And presonally I'd buy with the auto box. If I were buying with my heart, and wanted a manual, I might opt for the MG. Really depends on who is going to drive the car and in what environment. If you're going to drive a lot of B roads, and want a manual, I reckon the MG. Also if you're buying as family car I think the MG's additional size will be welcomed on family outings. VW quality isn't what it was and they don't back their cars with much of a warranty. And you must factor in the value of the extra warranties into the prices of the Kia, MG, Hyundai, and IIRC Toyota also has a 5-year warranty. Aygo feels small and cheap though. Lastly, I'm not sure that for the money the Sandero should have been so readily dismissed. 3K is a lot of money, particularly at this end of the market. You can buy a lot of other things with such a signficant saving. However, it also needs to be said that few private buyers are going to buy the bottom spec of any of these cars!

You don't need 7 years warranty on a UP. Own one since 2012, 95.000miles: no issues at all. No noises, nothing. Put it on 195/50/16 sport tires, Eibach lowered, chip to 80hp and you have a lot of fun. Almost as much as my 2.0l MX-5. But a lot cheaper to run. For a flat country: fast enough. Best car ever: does more than you could ever wish for the money.
Ha ha another biased German paid promotion.I have the Kia GT line s and it's leagues above that crappy VW anyday. I have the citigo Monte Carlo and a picanto GT line s and I can tell you the picanto is the better drive and also has disc breaks all round. The breaks on the Monte Carlo are terrible with drum brakes on the rear.
I go buy this car 1200 PK, yes it is a supper car! this car is better because the make the body frame muts stronger voor colisions, so now he drives better! Buy This Car!

Next time don't drive them around a track if you're going to pick the one that performed better in the parking lot 🙄
5:53 "but the VW's superior build quality makes it a better car to live with every day". You didn't do a longterm test, so your conclusion is effectively baseless.
True, how is a stripped out (not even a grab handle) car better to live with?
KIA is more reliable anyways... i know it's not 100% decisive, because owners play a big role (not taking care of car, having old tires, etc.) but the german TÜV (equivalent to british MOT) ranks the VW Up! at #72 with 5.8% failing the test. The average failure rate for all cars is 5.9%. Now the KIA Picanto is ranked at #47 with a failure rate of 5.3%
If we take a look at all competitors of the above video:
Dacia Sandero ranked at #121 with 11.0% failure rate
Fiat Panda ranked at #115 with 9.3% failure rate
Toyota Aygo ranked at #81 with 6.3% failure rate
VW Up! ranked at #72 with 5.8% failure rate
KIA Picanto ranked at #47 with 5.3% failure rate
MG 3 not included in the stats, because it's probably not sold here.
Disqualified the MG because it felt like a more expensive car and had more power. Should have been between the Kia & MG
They forgot to mention the 7 year 80,000 mile warrenty
Include 1.5 MG, then disqualify the MG for having a 1.5 engine?!?
No, because it drank more fuel than any other car.
It’s fuel consumption was higher, as was its emissions. Therefore not economical.
My sister has an Up! and mum is about to take delivery of a Picanto (with the 3-cyl turbo).
I feel a mother vs. daughter race is on the cards.
The 1litre 3 pot turbo will leave it way behind.
Unless its the VW Gti your sister has no chance
@@simon3225 think the 90tsi up would keep up. Meant to be a really good engine
Now the KIA Picanto is ranked at #47 with a failure rate of 5.3%
Other results:
Dacia Sandero ranked at #121 with 11.0% failure rate
Fiat Panda ranked at #115 with 9.3% failure rate
Toyota Aygo ranked at #81 with 6.3% failure rate
If I need to downsize to buy a house, I will probably look at the Picanto with low miles on the 1.25. Seems a very very good car.
Looks like paid review.
With a VW Up! the peace of mind comes as standard - no need for a warranty
VW are basic
@@davidwright1605 rubbish!
@Fred Bloggs Why would I research the VW 1.2 TSI engine? It's not used for the VW Up!. The 60ps and 75ps 1.0 l engines used on the Up! are bullet-proof.
I bought a Kia Picanto GT recently as a little city run around. It’s brilliant and has apple CarPlay and safety features . I love my Baby Beep!
The Kia picanto is the clear winner.
It even looks way better than the VW which looks so ugly and cheap.
Note book Yup - Kia has proper electric rear windows. VW has those awful non-opening tilt windows.
@@brickmissing8295 It's obvious that the picanto is the winner here, but it seens they had to make VW a winner anyway.
The UP! looks stupid and will be mostly seen in granny blue.
@@fivish And the Picanto will be mostly seen with granny drivers in it
We have two Picantos, a 2 spec and a 3 spec, both torque converter automatics.
I would have the Picanto it just looks nicer and comes with more kit
😊
Of course I have two Kia Picanto at home!!! NOT a Volkswagen Up!!! ✌🏻Picanto is so much better than Up!!!
KIA Picanto wins for me. A Up especially an white color looks like a fridge or a microwave from behind.
Picanto far better looking.
Kia is well better...looks better too
Biased to VW. I would have had the Kia but if it was in the test Hyundai i10. Very similar to Picanto (same underneath) but somehow the Hyundai feels a better car. So I bought one!
Picanto
We use to have a 2015 Skoda citigo Monte Carlo and it was a brilliant car. Replaced it with a bigger car 2 years later and this year got my wife a 2016 Kia picanto. I would say the citigo is a better to drive but the Kia is very close and both nippy. If buying new I would go for the Kia.
How is the vw better quality when it has metal on the doors showing?
Pedro Teixeira And non-opening rear windows
@@brickmissing8295 and the picanto's rear windows can even be opened and closed again by the driver of the car, just by the click of buttons.
Metal is stronger than plastic 😜
Regardless of the test verdict it proves how much fun it can be to have a slow car that you can drive to it's limits then to have a powerful car that you can barely use any of it's performance on the road without risking your license.
I had a Galant 2.5L Sport V6 automatic which was very fast.
I now have a Picanto 3 spec automatic. The Picanto is quite fast enough.
Pretty obvious brand bias here, the Picanto is clearly the better car and this is coming from a VW owner (I have a Polo 1.6 mk5 and Golf GTI mk6)
You'd think that the Brits had lost WW2. The Kia was a lot faster & significantly better in a number of respects. But apparently 'snob value' trumps 7 year warranty. As an Aussie of 180 years ago Brit/Anglo descent, I don't get it.
Hell, i am German and i don't get it.
@@SuperGeronimo999 I'm sorry that I was so thoughtless. I've got German in my family. I should know better.
Way way too much German car bias throughout the car review industry.. The Kia clearly wins here.
Uno & Myseru... Every car is 3 years MOT free, although govt. were thinking of making it 4 but decided it needed the money.
What's wrong with the Kia's build quality? The UP has well known engine and gearbox issues. Don't expect them to last more than 100,000km.

One argument more for never buying a VW anymore: Too much payed reviews.

Kia Picanto in GT line S spec best all round city car hands down
I have a Sportage GT line and just bought a picanto in white gt line s and what a fantastic little car it is.Far better then the boring VW.
I own a Citigo, but after watching this I would have chosen the Kia
I just got a 2013 UP! And I love it! It is such a nice little run around panda spec car.
Good comment that. The Picanto is a great car. Cant go wrong with Korean, Japanese etc.
180 on the motorway the little picanto it is a gem
How did I know that there was no way that the Kia would trump the VW? oh, the irony .... and with a 7yr warranty to boot!
A biased test. I don’t value their judgments.
Fiat 500 = 11.3% failure rate
Dacia Sandero = 11.0% failure rate
Fiat Panda = 9.3% failure rate
Toyota Aygo = 6.3% failure rate
VW Up! = 5.8% failure rate
KIA Picanto = 5.3% failure rate

If you need to go budget then the Skoda or Seat badged versions of the up would be a fairer choice. However when every £ counts it's Kia all day long, 7 year warranty, tell me why i'd not want that ?
You should've tested the Up! with the 90Hp TSI engine, it is amazing and better than the N/A variants.
Kia picanto is the best little city car !
The Suzuki Celerio should have won!!!
That Up! won on badge appeal
The UP! looks ugly and stupid.
Vw up does not even have a proper rear window. How practical is that?
I have a picanto gts and my friend has an up gti there’s not much in it but I’d say Kia every time because of the warranty
Not a fair comparison between the Kia and the Volkswagen you should of used the 1.0 tsi Up!
Its city cars under 10k so its perfectly fare if it was over that they could of used a Picanto GT Line S Turbo which is even better
I owned a brand new Picanto a couple of years ago for commute to and from work. I was more than happy with it.
The 1.25 Kia is the winner here for me.
picanto is more fun to drive .. it’s power steering felt much more natural and give intensive driver feedback that tiring to drive for a long journey .. but all i can say it can create a smile on your face everytime you drive it to work
the only issue is a bit underpowered .. better to get the GT 1.0 turbo version but only the 1.2 option were available in my country
Up is better than Picanto?? No, it's not. Shameful. I came here to see which car is better, not worse.
Anyone watching this video knows what the winner is. The result is not justified. The Kia has almost the same power as the UP Gti!
I will love to hear them say how "good" the Up is when it inevitably breaksdown/has issues.
The Picanto ranks better than the Up! on german TÜV (equivalent to british MOT) for a reason. The Up! is just a bit better (5.8% failure rate) than the average (5.9%) while only 5.3% of Picanto's are failing.
The working out was correct… but the answer was wrong.
Conclusion could have been given at the start… what a huge disappointment… my current car is an Up, but the next car will def be a Kia.
Because
More power
More warranty
Better drive
More room
Room for 3 in the back instead of 2 in the up
Normal windows in the back
Better build quality fades this all away???
So Aygo is eliminated for not having space at the back? Question is , who buys these type of cars for the backseats anyway?
! people with kids ,its overly cramped in the back and does not even have wind down windows spec is poor for the price too should come with sick bags
Kia =more power, fun to drive, better looking, more gadgets, arm rest, hand handle(grip), 7yr warrenty, better in everything so why VW? its your old minded bias thoughts..... Silly n stupid. You just lost your credit frm lot of people around the world.
The picanto was faster and more fun therefore the winner is... the up! What?

LOL, one car was faster, had a better warranty, has great customer service, has a track record of looking after it's customers if things go wrong, and then there was the other one.
1:25 , they sit in the Picanto, but the Up! starts up? Impressive Volkswagen, impressive.
Picanto is a much better-looking car.
Bizarre conclusion, you basically said the Kia is better but the VW wins 🤔
Well didn’t get that final result
Where is Opel/Vauxhall Karl? VW always needs to win? i am so gonna unsubscribe on Fifth gear...

Oof
Didnt notice that tbh and ive watched this before and now for a second time
If not for its fuel consumption, would it still be a good car to drive?
Superior build quality but no grab handles 😳🤦🏽♂️
Not a flattering thumbnail gentlemen.
First time I watched this I was considering a Dacia, this time we've been considering the Kia for a while. Pretty close to buying one.
OMG 😬 Johnny looks like he's aged 25 years since I last saw Fifth Gear 😂
I go buy this car 1200 PK, yes it is a supper car! this car is better because the make the body frame muts stronger voor colisions, so now he drives better! Buy This Car!
Kia is more practical car .
Picanto is better even in practicality
you should try the 75 hp up version...
you should try the 100 hp Picanto
Get a WRX STI
You eliminated the panda cross due to ride quality. Panda cross is an off roader! Like comparing a defender with a jaguar.
Ok but a small 0.9 litre in the small cars vs the 1.6 litre in the mg. Mg’d win just because of the quality, Looks, Storage space. Everything
