Nailed it! I am 60 and started running when my wife left me in 2019. I started running and the rest is history. I love the grind and the discipline needed to keep going is empowering. I like your videos and shoe information.
Wife and kids, MBA program, work, shoe tuber, running 100 miles a week...do you even sleep? 😅 All jokes aside, you are a great role model for us slackers. Keep up the good work, dude.
What a great video! We are definitely kindred spirits, except I am a LOT older. I started running when I was 25 to relieve the stress of being a single mother of a toddler with a life-threatening genetic disease, going to night school, and working. I had actually just been diagnosed with shingles of all things, at 25. I felt like crap. It was during the first running boom in the '70's, so off I went with my Tiger running shoes, Timex watch and cotton shirts. I have now run consistently for 45 years because I LOVE running. Turning 70 next week and I still run 6 days a week, although not 100 miles, I do run higher mileage than most of my non-elite AG peers. Running has been a life-saver for me and given me that one positive consistent rudder that keeps me moving forward. Thank you for sharing.
Excellent! Been running and racing since 1979. Not as many 100 mile weeks, but placed 15th overall in my first 200-mile ultra at age 59! Keep it up - cross train for longevity! Lots of weights!! And get a gravel bike.
This is the most sensational video I’ve ever seen n heard. I run 24-28 miles per week but I never thought I could increase my level until this. Tomorrow is my normal off day of running but forget that I’m going out to get some miles in the morning.
Thank you so much for this video. I can relate to most you said. It took me quite a few decades of running to get it "right". In my case "right" means being out there to run/walk pretty much every day ( last day i did not run was Feb. 14. 2020) mostly twice on most days, very slow with lots of gratitude and joy for the last few years to around 65 miles each week. I have not raced for the last 8 years, but i toe the line in front of my house every day, and yes wholefood plant based since 1994, runner since 1974 i congratulate you for the way you do run and put it into the right place within your life. I wish you and your family all the best and happy running edit: there is no doubt in my mind, half the energy you get through your consistent running, but the other half comes from your family with your wife being the single most supporter, and i believe, that your wife is part of every of your runs
It's great that you had this health epiphany at such a young age. I've been doing some type of exercise consistently since I was about 15 but all the nutrition information I got was from bodybuilding books (no Internet). Best of luck. That said, it pains me to see you running in the 880. If you hit 50 miles and it doesn't start to grow on you, maybe dump it; somebody will want it. :)
Nailed it, why I run…. just coz. 😃 This 64yo isn’t up to 100 miles per week … But after every walk/run it’s amazing. I just started watching your channel. Thank you for all the work that takes. You are appreciated 🙏🏼 merci … next video 🎉
The 80/20 program has done great things for me and keeps my attitude and motivation where it needs to be..the ice and snow is a good time to catch up on movies and you-tube racing videos on the hamster wheel..also keeps my hydration and fueling on track..no way I could do the yo-yo ups and downs of seasonal running anymore ..it's pretty much every day for me..
Amazing video! It definitely inspired me to want to get out and run right now but of course today is my rest day during my taper 😢 lol keep up the amazing work!
Working from home after March 2020 was the springboard for me to get to where I run 7days a week and average over 100KM. Before the Pandemic running 4-5days a week 50-75KM I was getting hurt and injured due to not respecting the intensities I was running at. With the right mix of intensity, rest days are a thing of the past, unless I'm traveling or in a race/testing week. Running for me is how I stay at a healthy weight. If I stop running I go from 175 to 200+ in a matter of a few months, and then the side effects of all that added weight being to ruin my quality of life. I'm 50 now and I don't know where/when I'm gonna hit the ceiling of my fitness before Father Time says I need to slow down...but it's gonna be fun till he does....and probably still will after. ;) Not taking your life and health for granted will serve you and your family well.
Oh 🙌 I love your video here 🫶🏻 It goes deeply in resonance with me and my goal is to run a 100 miles per week too because I want to see what my body is capable of and the only way is to push myself a bit but not to far 🫶🏻🔥 I really looking forward to your next video 🙏 I still can’t really start my training block because my tibialis posterior still isn‘t quiet right 😅Maybe orthotics will do the trick 😍 I will keep grinding in the gym 🙏 Keep hammering Bro 🔥🫡🙌
A truly inspirational video. I’ve had a similar experience the last year having had a bad gastritis and then finding out my cholesterol was high. In hindsight I was not taking care of myself. I dropped weight, changed my diet with focus on healthy foods and got back to running. Question, how did the running and switching to a vegan diet affect your cholesterol levels?
Thanks for sharing your story and glad to hear about the improvements 💪🏽 for me the "bad" cholesterol dropped by about half within a year and was safely within the healthy range. It was a huge change
Im so weird. I just run. I can’t remember why I started. I just know I enjoy the improvements and feeling better. I enjoy being outside and away from my addicting games lol. I’m just testing myself at this point. Since this video isn’t about a specific shoe, I think it’s safe to ask about trails. So after my marathon in early March I plan on doing a 100 mile in mid April. Crazy crazy, I know. I’m looking at a few shoes, hoka Tecton X 2. Hoka speedgoat 5. Suacony Endorphin Rift. Or maybe something from Topo. Have you tried any of those? I have the Solomon speedcross 5 and I do love them but they are a bit narrow and I don’t know if I can handle that for 100 miles in one go. Sorry for the long winded comment, understand if you don’t have time to read it all lol
I can relate to that! It's such a nice way to get outside after a long day on the computer. I haven't tried any of the shoes you mentioned but I've heard great things about all of them, especially the endorphin rift and tecton x2. Also the new Saucony xodus ultra is supposed to be a good comfortable option. If you can make it work for your budget I'd get two shoes and see which one is more comfortable since for the 100 miler you're going to be spending so much time on feet. Definitely worth it to have the perfect shoe. Also I know some people switch shoes mid race so may end up using two pairs. Btw I have plans to get more into trail reviews at some point. We have beautiful trails in the western part of the state two hours away but it's hard for me to get to the mountains much right now, and the local trails aren't that great - but long term goal for the channel is to have both road and trail
@@supwell I’ll have to check that xodus ultra out. I must’ve over looked that one. I know some runner change out shoes on them long runs but I really don’t know to track multiple shoes on garmin to maintain mileage data. Plus all of those shoes are on the more expensive side. I don’t so many trail even though GA is loadedddd with it. Start of the Appalachian mountains, we got it all here lol. But yes, it’s about 2 hours away from me as well. I enjoy the road more but if I wanna do ultras. I am forced to do trails around here. I hope to see you get into the trails though.
I run a lot of my miles at a relaxed pace - injury risk is lower and it strengthens the joints and muscles used when running a ton. Most of my runs are done 90 seconds to 2 minutes per mile slower than my race paces
100 miles per week are too much. It is for professional to achieve their best to win races. 25 miles per week is just about perfect, anything more will do more harm than benefit as too much running prones to lead to foot injury. 😂 I just do 35 k a week and stick with that mileage.
Respectfully, you're misrepresenting the truth. You said you can get in a 22 mile long run and 20 seconds later offered context and said you can get out the door by 8, be done by 9:30. You said this within the same singular stream of thought. That's not true and you're insinuating a false narrative of what's possible. I was a 3 hour marathoner / sub 18 5K runner (in my 40's) because I had the luxury of time to train. Then I got married, had twins and running life changed, dramatically for a long time - it's okay, was worth it. If you have the luxury of time with all your responsibilities, good for you.
Yeah thanks for calling that out - those were two separate streams of thought. I can get in a 22 mile long run in my neighborhood by doing about two loops of my normal 10 to 12 mile route. I only do this on the weekend. During the week I get my miles in before work and typically only go up to 14 miles, which I can usually finish before 9:30/10. Thanks for pointing out the mistake and I appreciate you watching!

100 miles a week is nuts, you are a beast
well, normally it'd be 50miles, but he's got to keep running back to collect his camera...

BRO. Killed. It. Trying to be the best that you can be is the reward.

“talking to Charlie about this earlier today…” probably three times in this video lol. I love it.
hahaha I run all my ideas by charli first. She's the 🐐

My favorite thing about this video is the dad-recording-while-kids-sleep voiceover 👍🏼😀

Thanks for inspiring us... guess i'll start with 15 miles per week and progress from there. Better doin' it and stop overthinking. Keep it up👍
Thank you for sharing all this.
I ran 129 miles in May. Ran 140 in June. I am planning to do 100 miles starting tomorrow. Excited.

Sunrise and birds chirping, elite way to start the day.
This is great. So did the running and other lifestyle changes help to bring down the cholesterol?
of course not cant beat genes 😂
I ran 100 miles in a week once in my life and it was not easy by any means. I don't know how you can do it week in and week out... #Respect
Awesome!!! 🪓🪓🪓🪓
Thanks!
