This jam track is ideal for beginners and anyone learning jazz improvisation and the key (F major) is a common key for jazz. It is a medium swing jazz play-along for improvising on the classic 1-6-2-5 progression.

    -----------------------------------------
    Tempo = 120 BPM
    I - VI7 - IIm7 - V7
    II: F I D7 I Gm7 I C7 :II
You will hear extended versions of these basic chords on the track... as is common in jazz of course :)
In theory, you can play F major scale over all the chords, except the D7 where you'd switch to G harmonic minor.
    Suggested scales:
    F Major - F G A Bb C D E
    G Harmonic Minor - G A Bb C D Eb F#
Playing F Major scale will result in F Ionian (F chords), G Dorian (Gm7 chords) and C Mixolydian (C7 chords) - all the same 7 notes...
NOTE: It's only a two note difference between F major scale and G harmonic minor scale - as the F becomes F# and the E becomes Eb - the rest of the 7 notes stay the same.... easy!!
    Next up,
I'd recommend trying out some more advanced colours on the dominant chord (C7/C13) by using the
    C diminished 1/2-1 tone scale - C Db Eb E F# G A Bb
And you can also try out the Altered Scale (Superlocrian) on D7!
    D Superlocrian Mode - D Eb F F# Ab Bb C
    Arpeggios:
    F arpeggio = F A C
    D7 arpeggio = D F# A C
    Gm7 arpeggio = G Bb D F
    C7 arpeggio = C E G Bb

Just wanted to take a moment to say thanks for putting these up for everyone, practicing has come a long way from the day of Abersolds with the play along CD. If only there was TH-cam in1989 when all I had was time to practice.

@@trevorfox3759 yes and no: They both have notes from the F Major scale but they differ in the way you emphasize the notes

it took me a while to see that the progression is actually 2561 instead of the progression that's on the screen

You know it is standard in Jazz notation for a crossed 7 to mean major seventh, not dominant.

Great relaxed tune man, perfect for Sax and also very smooth for the Clarinett. Thanks for that

    2 things:
    (1) "here comes the play-along" when what you were playing was not impressive, that's not particularly nice given your skill set.
    (2) could you at least TRY to make the volume level somewhat equivalent between what you were trying to show as your epic guitar skill, and the actual backing track people were looking for?
    good boy.
