  • 🎼 TABS, SCALE MAPS + LESSONS 👉 / quistjam Here's a head-bopping medium swing jazz backing track for improvising on the classic 2-5-1 progression in Bb Major - starting at 1:01! Grab a FREE download, scale maps and more at www.quistorama.... :)
    Chord progression:
    II: Cm7 I F7 I Bbmaj7 I Bbmaj7 :II
    In theory, you can play Bb major scale all over this...
    Bb major scale: Bb C D Eb F G A (Bb)
    Playing Bb major scale will result in Bb Ionian (Bbmaj7 chords), C Dorian (Cm7 chords) and F Mixolydian (F7 chords) - all the same 7 notes...
    Outlining the chord tones/arpeggios is a great next step...
    Bbmaj7 arpeggio = Bb D F A
    Cmin7 arpeggio = C Eb G Bb
    F7 arpeggio = F A C Eb
    Next up, try out some more advanced colours on the dominant chord (F7/F13) by using the
    F diminished 1/2-1 tone scale = F Gb Ab A B C D Eb (F)
    More info and tips coming soon...
    Happy jamming!

    I've been dying to know how you get such a jazzy tone out of your strat. You're an amazing guitarist with even better backing tracks !!!

      Cortne Lawernce I was wondering the same thing. It's so close to a big, hollowbody jazz box that the difference isn't worth mentioning.

    Jacob, whats the "secret" to the clean octave work? mine is usually so sloppy I have not the confidence to use them.

    • @QuistJam
      @QuistJam  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey man.. a large part of the key is in your left hand.. basically finding a way of getting your left hand fingers to not only fret the two desired notes, but also cover the rest of the (unwanted) strings to keep them from ringing.. that way you can safely strum all six strings and still just hear the two desired notes... takes time to work up.. SLOW and precise practice will get you there the quickest.... hope that helps mate!! Best, Q

    • @martyisabeliever
      @martyisabeliever 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      QuistTV yes indeed thanks for the insight..it's the whole start slow thing... impatient been playing for years and still some things escape me..like large intervallic stretches (ala guthrie, vai, satch, gilbert..) and octaves, sounds like the over grip habit i still wrestel with may be the cause of my poor octave technique...Back to it... Thanks "Q" you da man!

      @@QuistJam I realize the previous post was 6 years ago, but the advice was the best for everyone! No short-cuts to playing clean. I am very much like marty with some of the same bad habits... it is so much harder to re-learn the correct way than to learn it right the first time.

    What does 2 5 1 mean?

    • @QuistJam
      @QuistJam  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      that refers to the steps of the scale - meaning the chord progression consists of the chords you'd get on the 2nd, 5th and 1st step of the major scale....
