    When I was a graduate student at Columbia U I tried to get help for sexual harrassment and there was no one to assist me, nowhere to go for help. I was victim shamed and my scholarship funds withdrawn. All of the male professors in the department teamed up to undermine me and there was no help from the other students as they were all men too. I was 23 at the time. I tried the ombudsmen but that was also futile.

      The sexual harrassment was from a male professor in my department as well as male colleagues in case that wasn’t clear.

      I also was sexually harrassed at Columbia University. I went to their office of equal employment and affirmative action EEOC I think it was called? I had mixed results. A professor reported on my behalf and the dean had to speak to the offending professor, but he still remained. The other women he harassed didn´t count because they were not currently at the university or wouldn´t come forward. The male professor then moved into my building on my floor. His apartment could see directly into mine. I had enough and moved back home for a year. I graduated from my PhD program and eventually returned to teach. I thought the harasser had left but on my first day I saw him in the hallway. Then, I never saw him again. Generally, the behavior from some of the male employees was disgusting. In uniform, a custodial staff turned around to check out a woman´s butt as she was walking down the sidewalk. He made a big scene about how attractive he found her. This was with the university logo on his jumpsuit, in broad daylight. Another custodial staff member was looking at violent shark attacks and teenage girls in bikinis on a public computer when I went into IT to see if they could fix my boss´ laptop. Another custodial staff was sitting in the dark in the middle of a conference room and called out to me. I couldn´t tell where the sound was coming from as I was walking by, but I heard my name and stopped. He asked if I ever had gotten into fights. I told the security guard in the lobby of my building what happened and she walked up to talk to him. He never spoke to me again. I was almost run into by the SUV of my former sociology professor who pulled onto the sidewalk where i was walking to ask for my number. He asked to see my flat but I agreed to meet him somewhere public instead. When I arrived, he was already drunk. He kept touching my knee as he became more inebriated. I told my colleague, but she said to just stop hanging out with people like that. I ended up leaving from the stress of the job, not the bad behavior of the men. I had a nervous breakdown.

      Sorry about your experiences. Thanks for sharing. PTSD/ complex trauma is common when there is not a single place you can go to feel safe. Yikes about the apartment, as well as ALL the other stuff! I left my program and returned to my home country to go to med school, because I couldn’t see how I could get ethical mentorship from any of the guys for my thesis...they expected the young women to prostitute themselves to get funding for research, one of my colleagues in the program tried to R me and I just couldn’t get away from him cos I saw him everyday, and one man I tutored because I needed funds also attempted to molest me when we were in private...I had no support and gaslighting was prevalent. I expected educated men to be better but they were more entitled and more retaliatory because their egos could not cope with a young woman saying ‘no’ @@theSSHITT

    Columbia University deserves to get raked over the coals for this. Everyone in any position of power who enabled him should be sent to prison and have all their job and retirement benefits stripped. Allowing him to return to practice after being arrested for sexual assault is UNCONSCIONABLE.
    It takes so much to get the police to arrest someone connected to sex crimes, the fact that they did already speaks volumes about how serious they thought it was. For the university to allow him back at all is absolutely chilling. They could have protected so many others if they just cared AT ALL about what happened to their patients.

If a female patient is being examined by a male doctor for any reason we have female nurses or techs to accompany that patient inside the examining room. If there is no one available even though how busy I am I will accompany that female patient in the examining room. In the OB gyne ward where a male doctor is working the female nurses are always there in the examining room when that male doctor is examing patient . This is a protocol for all hospitals. Women who are pregnant or not pregnant always insist on female nurse or a female techs to be in the examining room when a male doctor is examining you whether in hospital setting or private practice setting . I read that this doctor was served a 20 year jail term for his crime he deserves more . And Columbia hospital you really protected this doctor instead of protecting your patients . Your license to open your OB-GYNE ward should be suspended indefinitely .

    This happens creepily often, the more "reputable" the hospital or clinic is :( speaking from experience, being unable to press charges bc the hospital closed ranks and protected my attacker just minutes after I reported the assault. They didn't care about preventing future malpractice suits as much as they did doing EVERYTHING THEY COULD to stop me from being able to press criminal charges. Unfortunately the local PD took their side... "it's a really good hospital, it's hard to believe they would let this happen."
    Of course they would. They don't want the public attention for sheltering sexual predators.

      Women are sexual assaulted everyday by men. Most women don't report sexual assult from male gynecologist. You risk being sexually assaulted by a male gynecologist. Men choose this field for a reason

  • @Julia4672
    @Julia4672 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Unfortunately, a lot of this goes back to misogyny. "Now, now little lady, Surely, it wasn't as bad as all that. Let's not make a fuss, okay?" And it is particularly discouraging to see a female attorney defending a predator like him. Even when women are brought into the board room, I think they face enormous pressure to conform to the good old boy standards. It takes an incredibly strong and skilled woman to stand out there and be allowed to remain.

    • @brandywillis3998
      @brandywillis3998 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not shocking at all. This is how it has always been with crimes against women. Blame the victims, protect the perpetrators, and sweep it under the rug. It's usually done for both profit and cruelty. Yes, the cruelty is baked right in. Most women have been Sexually Assaulted or the victims of some form of Sexual harassment and or domestic violence. The victims are made to pay whether they report it or not. No justice in 99% of cases. Generations of men have been taught to mistreat, mistrust, and gaslight women. They do it to their spouses, their wives, their daughters, their employees, their patients, their students, etc.. The institutions and perpetrators rarely pay any significant price for all the lives they have destroyed. Many religions bake sexual abuse, blame, shame, and gaslighting right into their "theology".

Or if you said "I regret stabbing that man" and the judge said "Plaintiff shows regret. Case dismissed". So, how does Columbia get away with the same thing? Is it because they're 'connected'? Or because these were women?

  • @truthhurts2879
    @truthhurts2879 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I can think of no worse a position being occupied by a prolific serial sexual abuser, than that of an OBGYN. Obtaining access to the most intimate area of the female body is the biggest obstacle an abuser must overcome in order to carry out his abuse, so being an OBGYN utterly obliterates that initial protection a potential victim posseses,leaving the victim completely at the mercy of her abuser due to an unspoken trust that immediately accompanies any individual in a profession that involves unfettered access to the most intimate parts of a woman's body. I simply cannot conceivably imagine of the gross abuse of trust this kind of sexual abuse involves. It's horrifying to even conceive of such a thing.

    Astonishing how "hurt" and "confused" that predator sounded on her voicemail, shows how convincing they can be at acting the victim and making it easy for the authorities to believe him instead of the woman! Scary. These organisations are notorious for protecting what they see as the reputation of the perpetrator, as though his reputation is linked to the reputation of the organisation itself.
