My best suggestion is to start small on the garden -- you are going to be shocked at what you get out of it and how much work it's going to be to process everything. My brother did what you're doing -- so much enthusiasm! It turned out to be one and done! Your going to have to learn about dehydration, canning, fermenting, etc...Maybe start with a nice kitchen garden, close to the house that you can test a bunch of different veg and see what thrives and what doesn't. You also need serious protection for those baby plants -- you will lose your mind as bunny's, deer etc. ravage the place! But I'm so excited to watch, whatever you decide to do!
Indian features are really showing in the kids, love to see it. I remember Megha feeling sad there was no trace of her, but the roots are showing now, beautifully !
I hope you guys keep posting, I’ve been following since you two lived in your apartment. Would love to see regular ol vlogs from you guys I know everyone would love it!
It is so fun to see the metamorphosis of your family and your thought processes! You are on the same journey as many of us who woke up to a different world a few years ago and decided to step it up and start making sure we could take care of ourselves. We have “prepped” since 2001 off and on but this is different, as Megha said, something is going to happen, we can all feel it. Kudos to you and it is so nice when a video pops on here for the rest of us to see! Enjoy your garden! Loads of work but SUCH reward!!!
I took a diet youtube vacation and came back when I saw the chickens title. The kids sure have grown, added a dog! And all the changes. So happy for you all!!
So Happy that your making a video, Was so afraid something happened…. But It didn’t - ThankGod. 😊. The boys are growing up fast. Stay Happy, Keep Your Plan, It’s an adjustment. ❤. My love to all- Virgin Farmers. MDG/Putnam-NYS
Hope you are all adjusting. I got into a similar mindset after I moved to my house - feeling more isolated (plus hurricanes & blackouts & school massacres, oh yes). After a while, that feeling wore off. It takes a while for a house to become a home. Now I’m almost too comfortable. Give yourselves grace & time. And thanks for being real.
It’s been a minute since I’ve watched you guys. See you everyday as your cookbook is displayed in my kitchen. Pandemic killed my keto life after being keto for 3.5 years. But I’m back, sort of. Doing mostly carnivore. Covid40 weight is melting off. So happy for you guys, beautiful family and home. I too live in the country, you will come to love it and won’t be able to go back to the city life. Please keep us updated on your new journey. Much love.
No roosters for my hens, they are too aggressive, and they get protective over the hens, my blue healer protects my girls , so great to see this video been watching y’all for years ❤
I have to tell you both, I watched you for a couple of years for keto, loved you guys but you were too intense back then about keto, now you have a family and recently moved to the country, your all so relaxed and all about family and your home. Love your show now and will continue to be a fan, thanks for your context and being real. People who live in the country are so much more relaxed than the city ❤
Welcome back to Michigan & the country. The country is so much safer. Always a good practice to meet your neighbors, will up your safety having everyone watching out for others. I’m on the west side which is a lot country but also currently in the U.P. which is a whole lot more country!
Oh wow! So glad your video came up. I’ve missed watching you guys😊 So cool the direction you’re going, mill be watching for sure. Matt, one thing at a time, don’t burn outta Megha, the boys are soo big and absolutely the cutest. Looking forward to seeing your success
Megah - Don't be judgy. One day that country music maybe all you have to listen to. Hopefully we have realized over the past few years and will continue to learn is that people and life are different than what we may have been told. Embrace everything good and appreciate the people in your life. Always seek truth.
Way to go on the prepping! We ARE on the brink of something big! I’ve been prepping almost 4 yrs, we have 2 big gardens, I water bath and pressure can everything I can, I freeze, dehydrate & freeze dry everything else. Also make our own meds from wildcrafting. Roosters are great protectors, they will wake everyone up in the neighborhood every morning, including weekends😁and they can get aggressive, so always research your breeds😉 You will live and learn🥰 Iowa farm gal born & raised here
I haven’t been watching for a while. On the topic of prepping… are you canning anything? Planning any canning? Like your new place and doggy! Kids are so big!!! Other doggies still around?
I owned three Saint Bernards and they are wonderful pets. So incredibly great with kids. Excellent companions. The one you have looks to be through TH-cam an extremely nice example of the breed with a wonderful temperament. I'd be nervous about the Saint Bernard with the chickens unless you make a good effort to teach him that they are part of your family.
Wow! You guys are great! Your oldest looks just like Matt. Adorable family. I look forward to your newish content. Yes be prepared! I am in FL and we prepare always.
I grew up in MN. We just ran all our household compost out to the garden, we even shoveled a path to the edge of the garden so all winter - out went all peels, egg shells etc. In the spring we tilled it under and planted. We never had a problem and we canned 7 types of pickles( dill, sweet&hot, beet, cornrellish, garlic dill, hamburger sliced dills, and crystal chip-super sweet cold brine, tomatoes, cabbage soup, concord grape jelly, crab apple jelly, and plumbs from the neighbors. Every three years we added gypsum, and that was it. We grew tons of food on a 30'x50'spot
So happy to see you guys doing homesteading content! I'm a semi retired nurse and avid gardener from Michigan also. I believe you guys are closer to the Detroit area and I am just west of flint. If you would like any help I'd love to be of service!
I'm all for this channel now! (I was never Keto, but followed you anyway). We have 5 chickens, no roosters. Maybe you'll get a nice one, but most are not friendly and will attack you, plus they "go after" the hens and will sometimes rip out the feathers on their backs 😒.
Oh it's so good to see you guys I'm so happy the boys are really growing they are adorable love the dog so happy that you're starting your farm I can't wait to see what else you add the cranes were gorgeous I don't think I've ever seen cranes before I thought they were in Florida that shows you how much I know but I'm over the moon that I got to see a video from keto connect!!!!😊
I can't even believe how much the boys have grown since your Christmas tree video!!! Homestead life seems to agree with them. Amazing! Also, keep your wood ash for the K in the NPK for the garden.
Homestead Yeah! You r doing great! Your kids look more interactive and healthly, but still very dependent! With all that homestead u have, you need to let them grow outside and discover life and nature! Let them be withouth you. You do seem to somehow over protect them! Let them fly. They are young and they need to deal with nature and learn how to fall and get up without you guys! Although Megha does looks much more tired than usual! Give her a break! Love u guys enjoy your new life💞
This years I used heat mat and grow lights for my seeds and had a great results. No rooster please will traumatize the kiddos. Yes MI garden seeds your off to a great start.
@hippiegirl5167 Well, that was a rude comment. Since once upon a time this used to be keto channel, the question was legit...just in case the bread mix was low carb....sheesh...
Roosters do protect the flock, but they can also be very aggressive. Really depends on the rooster. Watch him around your kids. Chickens get killed by everything. Please don't kill the predators - they are needed to keep other populations in check like rodents, etc. Best thing to do is make a really secure pen for the chickens, including a cover (I use garden netting). Raccoons and foxes can climb! You will also want to shut them into their coop every single night , which is when most predators come out. That said, chickens die from all sorts of things, including diseases. Don't get attached. I've had chickens for over 30 years and know that something will get them.
Awesome! We're getting our first round of chicks in a couple weeks too. Been building a coup since last year. Also, I'd check out rabbits for meat. Small footprint, cheap to raise and the meat is really good. My mom raised meat rabbits when we were kids. I've been considering it. Maybe after the we've settled into the chicken game.
Matt, crush tums or Roland’s and water in around your tomatoes (Later on, you can dry and grind your own chicken egg shells and use those.) A lot of times Tomatoes get blossom end rot and this will stop it, they just need more calcium 😉
What do you guys think of the keto wheat flour from King Arthur? It’s sooooo darn good! 😋 I’m very impressed guys! You should get milking goats. Goat milk is so good for you. I was raised on it. I drink it every once in a while. I’m just not a milk drinker. I can’t believe how big the kids are! 🫶🏼😋🤗
Only stock what you eat and Work through whatever you store..then there’s always a supply of things you actually eat and you’re prepared for an emergency with things you want and know how to prepare
You all look and sound great. Hope.to see.more of you. The pup is perfection good choice.on chickens predators often enter from underneath so shore that up roosters can be nasty better to wait till chicks are grown. Enjoy it all great decision to move.
On 5 acres you definitely could do a couple feeder pigs (they do better in pairs) and 1 beef cow for food. Might need to rotate years if you don’t want to manage them together. Also, pigs are really good at working the soil for you. Just food for thought. They are Rhode Island Reds.
Roosters are great, but sometimes you get a naughty rooster. Be prepared to cull rooster if he chases the kids. But don't be discouraged, there are nice roosters out there. Sounds like you guys are trying a lot of new things at once. Good luck, very exciting. Make sure you document garden stuff, so you can review what worked and what didn't. I have watched you guys since the beginning, though I was homesteading at that time! Maybe start a new channel or use those one to document homestead startup. Lots of us homesteaders out there. We'll be cheering you on! 🎉 Give yourself grace to not do all the things right away. Manageable is sustainable.
First, I love your family… You sure moved to a cold climate lol 😂… But by now Matt, you probably painted your office but I love that look so I would go with that dark green… You need to get a candle, so it smells like cigars. No I’m just kidding.❤❤❤❤
Come backkkk I miss you guys!
My best suggestion is to start small on the garden -- you are going to be shocked at what you get out of it and how much work it's going to be to process everything. I totally agree.
Waiting for next video please , love to see you all ❤
I haven’t seen this channel since prior to the pandemic. I am so happy for you both! Two beautiful children and a homestead! Amazing! 🏡❤️👶🏻👦🏻
Indian features are really showing in the kids, love to see it. I remember Megha feeling sad there was no trace of her, but the roots are showing now, beautifully !
MY nephew was like a twin of his dad UNTIL he got his adult teeth. Then here really looked like his mom's fam, esp his grandfather.
I hope you guys keep posting, I’ve been following since you two lived in your apartment. Would love to see regular ol vlogs from you guys I know everyone would love it!

My husband is building a coop right now first time getting chickens last week of March we are excited !
I grew up in MN. All 3 of those chicken breeds are awesome! Buff Orpington are some of the most friendly.
Get some Premier Fencing... electric... keeps garden & chickens safer...plus other uses
So happy to see you guys doing homesteading content! I'm a semi retired nurse and avid gardener from Michigan also. I believe you guys are closer to the Detroit area and I am just west of flint. If you would like any help I'd love to be of service!

Crime and Punishment was my favorite book to teach. :)
HOW about a row of moringa trees for hedge? They are prolific. But, they are also a food supply (incl protein)in case of shortages.

Matt, my husband and I have an orchard for years.. My best advice is...double the amount of trees you plant. At least half won't make it
I've missed you guys!
This years I used heat mat and grow lights for my seeds and had a great results. No rooster please will traumatize the kiddos. Yes MI garden seeds your off to a great start.
To happy all is going well with you all❤
Happy to see this video.
You will learn more each year you do a garden.
How many carbs are In that bread mix Mega was using at the beginning of the video?
Really none of your business
@hippiegirl5167 Well, that was a rude comment. Since once upon a time this used to be keto channel, the question was legit...just in case the bread mix was low carb....sheesh...
@@Sarahbee-o8t I don’t understand why this offends you?🤷🏾🥰
They haven’t been keto since the youngest child was born. So it’s probably the carbs of whatever regular bread mix has.
Don’t forget to cut the potatoes trying to get a sprout in each chunk
You guys are amazing
Gosh, this was fun!!
Miss you guys, hope you’re doing well ❤
