    "The dumbing down of music is part in parcel of the dumbing down of the soul which makes it difficult to produce persons who are willing to fight, who are willing to sacrifice."
    I love rap music more than I can put into words, but the more I grow and the more socially aware I become, the more I realise the power of this line. Although rap has its saints who play their part in diagnosing cultural pathologies and offering more nuanced perspectives through educational verses, songs and albums, those artists are unfortunately the exception.
    Rap music for the most part promotes apathy, thus effectively desensitises us to the cultural tragedy that persists today. Homicide isn't okay, children addicted to Class A drugs isn't okay, robbing and cheating isn't okay...yet we bop our heads along to the lyrics so often that we're not only numb to it but we unwittingly partake in the glorification of it.
    This doesn't only go for rap but all sorts of mainstream genres with different but erosive and disempowering messages. Like normalising attachment issues, emotional dependency, victimhood, listlessness etc.
    Now I'm not making claims to what moral responsibility artists owe to their community, their fanbase and so forth, because I know that the expression of the culture is simply reflecting the oppression of the culture.
    All I'm really saying is that it's sad how music has the potential to inspire real change, but instead it has numbed us to cultural and societal ills and injustices, it's divorced us from our sense of duty as people and undermined the importance of virtue, love and community.
    As Dr Cornell cited...'Indifference to evil is more insidious than evil itself.'
    If we're not fighting injustice, then we're guilty of complicity,

    • @BeastNationXIV
      @BeastNationXIV 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Rap music for the most part promotes apathy, thus effectively desensitises us to the cultural tragedy that persists today."
      Bullshit!
      (Pauses, recalls those times KRS-ONE vocally frowned upon voting in multiple songs he put out over the years....Recalls some of the lyrics Onyx had like, "Thinkin' bout taking my own life, I might as well, but they might not sell weed in hell.")
      Nah, you're right.
      ++++
      A majority of Rap/Hip-Hop that's put out does exactly that, promoting apathy vs empathy or something similar. It glorifies the flaws of our condition. I guess I always appreciate the songs lyricist speak on with a more 'conscious' intent rather than the 'hoes, clothes, cars, money, weed' brand, but unfortunately that more conscious brand is still a minority of the genre as it's not as 'popular.' For instance, I love the sound of Death Row Pac, but the lyrics and spirit of Pac before that time will always reign superior. "Keep Ya Head Up" will always win over "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted" for me.
      ++++
      At the same time, I sort of appreciate the fact that there's no 'acting brand new' like the flaws aren't there, as they need to be addressed to move forward. And on the other side of the American coin, we have Metal/Death Metal, which is very much the same apathy.
      I'd never get rid of Hip-Hop, but you're not wrong in what you say about it being one of the more basic types of music.

      I agree. Over the past 15 years, there has been a growing movement of "mumble" music. Celebrating the intake of drugs, giving oneself to mindless violence. Having no expression and profound dialogue. The only standout is the music and bassline. That's why you see a lot of youngsters listening to Eric B and Rakim, Wutang Clan and many other Golden Age hip hop artists

      My dear Brothers and Sisters/Dearest Kings and Queens; I urge that They Will Not Stop Killing Us until we are no more... or until We Come Together, in deliverance of impactful and deeply felt consequences of the heinous transgressions brought against us and Our People that Show... that WE MEAN TO LIVE! Mere life in prison will Never be enough for these, nor any other peoples who are, and have been committing crimes, of such diabolical nature, against Our People... Against OUR HUMANITY! For how much longer do we have to endure such torture... whilst we stand by and sing songs of how "we shall overcome, someday", before we realize that "someday" IS RIGHT NOW!? "SOMEDAY" WAS YESTERDAY, "SOMEDAY", WAS YESTERYEAR! It is today, Right Now, that WE MUST, RISE UP... from our cowardly slumber. FOR THE PAST HUNDREDS OF YEARS in this country and about a thousand more years across both lands and waters of this planet, we have been praying for, caring for, nurturing and healing, providing endless resources (including our own Home), and even protecting with our very being, a people whose only angst and interest, as history proves it, has always been to burn the very flesh from bones and let winds blow away any evidence of our ever having existed - saved, a few charred remains our once God-life filled bodies as trophies and souvenirs. How much longer do we continue to stand, idly by, and watch as our men, our Wombmen, OUR CHILDREN are being Murdered, in the coldest and bloodiest of measures? How long!? Methodically, and systematically, by these cops (government appointed henchmen), we are being put down like sheep to slaughter! I keep hearing talks of how we need to "reform" and "fix" The System: How does one "fix" that which is unbroken? As this government was built on our backs, built on our Necks, it is still draining from us our blood, our sweat, our tears... squeezing from us our very breath (Our Lives, are being Stolen and Snatched from us! Our Children's Lives, are being Snatched and Stolen from us)... just as it was designed to do. My dearest Kings and Queens, please, hear me, this System is Not broken. It is working just fine. It is of perfect design: providing for, and protecting the rights and lives of those for whom it was built. The signs say "Whites Only": the only lives and conditions for which constitution was meant to elevate. Whilst killing, with laser precision, you and I, our Black Children, our Black Mothers and our Black Fathers, our brothers and sisters... just as it was designed to do. Sparing only as few as they need to work their fields. This American Government's White Supremacy System, in all of its Constitutional guides, is at its best, and it is working just fine. It is simply not, nor shall it Ever, work for us... Black People: as it was clearly not constructed to do so. This System was not built for you and I, Black People. The United States Constitution was Built as a Bug to Stomp/Snuff Us (Every Black Man, Every Black Wombman, Every Black Child) Out! Our brother, King George Floyd, like so many more of us before, was literally LYNCHED, in broad daylight, for all the world to see. These cops made it their point of business, in full commitment, to Murder -- Slowly... and Torturously, with smirks on their faces, joy, and laughter in their hearts -- our brother in a most brutal of fashions. The time is high, and far overdue that we impress upon these people OUR POINT. That this, Our Life, is not business... It is Not a game in which you get so many do-overs. In fact, that we realize that Life itself only comes for us one time: that we realize death is always but a mere breath right behind us. Your Life, is Personal! My Life, is Personal! Our Life/Lives, are Personal.
      We must RISE UP, no matter where we are in the world! Be COUNTED as ONE NATION of BLACK PEOPLE! OUR UNION IS PERSONAL! OUR BLOOD: IT IS SACRED, and It Is PERSONAL! Let them know that OUR LIFE, IS ONE LIFE... That It Is Sacred to Us: and that in order to take it From One of US, that they had better be prepared to TAKE IT FROM ALL OF US! Because We Take The Life of OUR UNITY PERSONAL! That We Will Live For, and Die For It! This Life: It Is Ours, and We Intend to Live It, and Breathe It, and when time comes, we are prepared to take our last breath, Knowingly that we have given our all to be FREE! For Our Children to be FREE.
      Today, we realize there are only two ways to die in this world:
      ¹ You either die FOR THE CAUSE: whatever your cause is. Whatever your driving force. Whatever it is that wakes you up each day. Or,
      ² JUST BECAUSE... you are in the way.
      My dear Kings... I Love You. Dearest Queens; You are the vessel through whom The Most High chose to send forth LIFE: you are, indeed, the Earth, from which I have come... I am In Love with You.
      Today, We Stand in Unison... We Fight for Our Independence. We fight for such Inalienable Rights to Life, Freedom, to Justice as endowed upon us from that which is without beginning, nor end. Let us do so, As One People. Let us do so... Taking It, Personally.
      From the Third Eye, I See, & I Salute You All.

      Good and bad have nothing to do with ethnicity, nationality, sexuality, gender...
      I think this speaker is racist towards whites but that doesnt mean all black people are racist. I am white, and there are plenty of white people i dont like, most of them being those who think we are a superior race based solely on the colour of our skin.
      I am an atheist as well... you think jesus was white? He was born in a country which didnt have white people and still doesnt have many today. Would you still follow jesus if he looked arabic? No, you follow christianity cos you are told to follow christianity and jesus was made to look white. The man speaking in this video gets more black people listen to him because he is black. He probably gets less white people listen for the same reason!
      Listen to all sides of the argument and know that they all have their own agendas that they try to hide. A speaker has zero credability until they actually start speaking - its only then that we should begin to judge what they are saying.
      Discrimination is everywhere... but i really shouldnt say cos i am a white, english speaking, thirtysomething year old heterosexual male. My opinion is inherantly discriminatory because i am judged by these things before i even speak.
      Common ground for all of you is that use define yourselves by things you had no choice in, you follow those who have similar traits and you instantly dismiss those that are different.
      Why not find some common ground and share the world despite your differences instead of trying to prove who is superior whilst pretending it is for sake of equality.
      Its pathetic on all sides!

He is a prominent member of the DSA, so it is very interesting to see him in a college that, from what I researched, is said to be very conservative/libertarian capitalist/neoliberal. If you can put a guy like him in a tech-centered college, please, someone get him to my college in Albany, NY (SUNY Polytechnic Colleges of Nanoscale Science & Engineering). I want to hear this guy. Techniques for Revealing Racism:
    1. Naming: explicitly mentioning race by name--using words such as “racism,” “racial inequality,” “racial discrimination,” “racial bias,” etc. --so that racism gets acknowledged and addressed.
    2. Framing: using a racial frame to describe an issue--e.g. “racial profiling,” “environmental racism,” “transit racism,” “racial redlining,” etc.--so that institutional accountability and policy change becomes a central focus of the debate.
    3. Explaining: making the existence of racism easily understandable and believable by:
    • Using concrete evidence,
    • Pointing out patterns, connections and causes
    • Placing the focus of attention on institutions
    • Appealing to people’s core values of moral fairness and moral decency
    • Borrowing legitimacy and moral authority from respected sources
    • Using irrefutable personal stories to illustrate systemic patterns, etc.

    29:30 Indeed, as Kant put it _“if justice perishes, human life on earth has lost its meaning.”_
    Was also reminded of this section from Marx's Theories of Surplus Value:
    _"A philosopher produces ideas, a poet poems, a clergyman sermons, a professor compendia and so on. A criminal produces crimes. If we take a closer look at the connection between this latter branch of production and society as a whole, we shall rid ourselves of many prejudices. The criminal produces not only crimes but also criminal law, and with this also the professor who gives lectures on criminal law and in addition to this the inevitable compendium in which this same professor throws his lectures onto the general market as “commodities”."_ - Marx, Theories of Surplus Value (1861)

      RED PILL PORTAL - Wow, what a capitalist propagandist you are, pulling figures out of your ass again. By your logic, Stalin had a bigger civil war and far more death than what was imposed upon them by the Nazis for 1,000 days straight! Oh, by the way, the two world wars and the overwhelming majority of other wars in the last century were capitalist wars! WW1 was massively destructive over colonies and that’s why Russia had a revolution in the first place! Then those same dominant CAPITALIST powers, US, French, Japanese, Britain and about 10 capitalist other countries went in and smashed Russia to pieces. Out of the carnage it came Stalin. Thanks capitalism! But no, you never mention that do you? You just spout long discredited and absurd figures about 100 million deaths! Are you even aware of the obvious difficulties of killing that many people, let alone the immense refugee problems that would have dwarfed the entire refugee crisis after WW2?
      You could say the same for China. Invaded and destroyed by Capitalist Japan, brutalised by the capitalist and western backed KuoMinTang, economically backward, isolated and coming out of a war caused by capitalism. Are you completely stupid or just so blinded by your ideology, you come off as a cretin?
