Tom Samad Well, the disintegration has been gradual, and it appears reversing it (if we intend to hang on to the power structure as it sits) will take just as long. What would you rather see happen?
pjamesbda Exactly,I'm astounded that a system (corporate capitalism) that has plunged the world into two great depressions is allowed to continue unchecked. Democracy was hijacked by corporate capitalism long ago and wealth now trumps democracy. Are the politicians asleep on the job or just puppets of the corporations? Democracy was put in place to protect the masses from the excesses via the ballot box. For that reason, corporate capitalists fall over themselves to finance politicians and 'buy' elections. They fear true democracy like the plague.
pigofapilot1 Absolutely - - redistricting and voter requirements are some other tools. But as you point out, by far and away the most effective tool is the "futility factor". Creating a atmosphere of utter futility drives people into a sense of despair. And then, they just give up. That is, after a fashion the first step. We absolutely DO need to "give up" on a failed system model. And instead of this idea of fixing it (which by the way, is another tool - remember the conserv. base saying the ACA just needed "fixing") - we need to throw out for profit health care, public utilities and all the other infrastructure issues we've already F'ing well paid for 2 or 3 times over. We need to understand we have rights; to work, to have clean shelter we can afford, health car and descent nutrition. These are non-negotiable...period.
Completely disagree as soon as I heard workers should have these exam rights as the owners which makes no sense workers don't lose anything if the company goes bankrupt
@@joshuaoverlord5327 Workers lose their jobs. And when workers lose their jobs they have the possibility of going homeless, when the capitalist loses their job the worst risk they face is becoming a worker themselves - and of course they don't want to become a worker, they know how horrible it is!

+rumco I noticed that stroke of genius! 2 Marxists of a feather flow together like cream in the coffee...yum. I'm afraid, btw, that to a certain degree, "male supremacy" is something of a necessity, quite dictated by nature itself. Rich vs. poor is here to stay till kingdom come.
@@LauraFlandersAndFriends Just watched 2 minutes. 2 minutes and i know what this whole liberal bs is about. What do you think of our economy now?!?!? hahahahhahahaaa WRONG!!!!!!
This is a talk-lecture that needs to go "viral." It needs hearing everywhere now that we're approaching the November election. Too many conservatives out there are so complacent and ignorant (hence afraid of change) and led along everyday by FOX & friends. Richard Wolff was on FOX recently and they basically laughed at him, called him "comrade," made predictable references to Trotsky and Lenin, etc. It's a thick wall of ignorance we need to crack if there's going to be any reform in this country.
An old WWII vet described communism as when the government owns the factory. Capitalism was described as when the factory owns the government. Both economic systems, in their extreme are flawed. A hybrid economic system is needed, applying the good of each system without the negatives.
We in the U.S. have been left in the dark about the qualities of democratic socialism. The grade school and university curricula are set by the 1% to make sure that we do not understand what is happening to us in the workplace and why. Capitalism succeeded in the 1950s only because we were untouched by the war. The breakdown of capitalism's promise for a reasonably stable and reliable life style has disappeared for the majority of workers.
What are you talking about? Capitalism succeeded because it passes the cooperation and allocation test, two things socialism does not. and the nordic countries aren't democratic socialist.

I worked at a great hospital, great benefits and fair and hardworking staff. I worked there 28 years. Around 2 years It turned into a living hell for me and a lot of people. Many support staff Ilaid off or fired. My hours were cut drastically and for 15 months i didn’t know if I working every single day. The worst part was I had no say in what happened to me . The administration didn’t care about my financial stress or time. I hated every single minute there. Retired early and have never been happier
Can I just say: I love these people. I really hope Bernie will include them in his cabinet. Such wisdom, intellectual, spiritual and emotional wisdom. No weasel talk EVER. I love these people.
What are you talking about? Wisdom? Intellect? I could give 3 Marx quotes that prove he was a train wreck. And two of three daughters of Marx committed suicide. He said "the last capitalist we will hang will be the one that sold us the rope". Thats who these two clowns revere? C'mon.... There is no legitimate argument that Marx is sometime of social expert... If anything, the people who followed Marx and got into power killed millions following EXACTLY what Marx prescribed. Beyond pathetic.
Googily Moogily Because Marx said “the last capitalist we hang will be the one that sold us the rope” , because he called for overthrowing society by force rather than peacefully creating ESOPs and competing with capitalism. Marxism is Evil to the core and he ran his personal life as a selfish , evil bully. To see people cherry pick this animals quotes and to pretend Marxism is legit is a danger. Millions died trying to follow Marxs exact words of force. Don’t tell me that Mau, Stalin, Pol Pot or Lenin did it wrong. Marx was the Charlie Manson of economics.
Who the hell has been hiding Dr. Cornel West from me? He's amazing. And I've long felt the same about Wolff. Great interview w/ 2 of my favorite minds.

@@danielmadeson311 Socialist economists are rare, because socialism has failed many times, and still cannot solve the cooperation and allocation problems.
Thomas Rosati It depends on what form of socialism each country uses. There’s communism, plain socialism, authoritarian socialism, democratic socialism and social democracy. Great interview, brilliant duo to interview, however I think it could be improved by slowing the pace a fair bit, especially with two interviewees with so much wisdom to share. Felt like too often they were only just getting started answering the questions before the subject was changed or a new question was asked. Trying to have a short-form interview with just one of these guys is never good enough; short-form with both of them at once?! It’ll never be enough! This coulda been extended to a 2-3 hour long-form discussion & still every minute would be golden. Anyway, glad to have found this channel. Very interesting content, I hope to see you thriving and succeeding!
Too bad parallels drawn between the arts and political culture go right over the heads of most viewers who are commenting by saying things like "Thank our Lord Jesus Christ for raising up Ronald Reagan to defeat communism"...
I feel so indescribably dissapointed when I watch countless great conversations that have already taken place well enough in the past that our societies could have already used as maps & blueprint inspirations to form a better way for all
Being called the N word by a Communist is no better than being called that by a Capitalist. Your system can offer us two things that we need and want:enjoyment of labor and enjoyment in child birth, to date in my experience you offer neither. Do not try to camouflage your Imperialism, NeoColonialism nor Zionism as some panacea for the social and economic injustice of the past centuries. We want family integrity and peace not chaos and drama. The Socialist agenda that we understand can only be understood by those that do the work.

Lenin was way more than just good ideas. He was a profound Marxist theoretician, both in the broader sense, but especially in the dialectics between theory, practice and organisation. He was unmatched in understanding the development of Russian society and what needed to be done. Unfortunately, The civil war, which was armed and defended by the strongest imperialist powers of the time, the destruction of most Bolshevik cadres and the dispersal of the remaining ones, famine, demoralisation, Stalin’s degeneration and struggle against the party’s revolutionary wing, Lenin’s incapacitation and eventual death, opening it up to just anyone and and murder, underdevelopment and mass social and economic dislocation caused by 7 years of war. There is so much unjustly blamed on Lenin and much of his work was either destroyed, misunderstood or distorted by the Stalinist counterrevolution. It’s incumbent on all revolutionaries to read, re-read and properly understand his works.

At 13:33 “people are afraid of Marxism…they think of Lenin they think of Pol Pot they think of Mao”… People think of those monsters, and they’d damn well better, because history has demonstrated time and time again, unequivocally, that those are the sorts of horrendous creatures that emerge, and theirs are the monumentally ghastly sorts of deeds that proliferate, whenever marxism is implemented. Why? Because marxism is based on hatred for the rich, and when that hatred for the rich meets the greed and self preservation of the rich, all hell breaks loose, literally, and the earth is turned into a living nightmare of mass murder and destruction.

Problem with collective decision making is nothing ever happens and everything ends up in chaos. Leadership is the rarest quality and collective mentality discourages it. And that's the worst recipe for entrepreneurship. The real problem is the screwed banking / political system and a selected few steamrolling their way through all law and legislation all over the world. One correction here, feudalism was not replaced by capitalism. It was replaced by neo-feudalism. Consider that the general public regards the State as the superior Sovereign and Political superiors their nobility. Remember Dr Wolff, most politicians hold 'Titles of Nobility' the Chief of State has legally the same "King's prerogative" the same way the UK has its monarchy. Only the name of the title has changes. In thr UK the parliament is just like the judiciary and legislative brances of the U. S. government - -they serve an advisory role.👌💯👍

Absolutely - - redistricting and voter requirements are some other tools.
I love listening to these guys Richard Wolf knows how to communicate things in s easy manner.
Both of these guys together. What a combo! WOW! Excellent discussion with points made. West's eloquence is captivating. Love the man's style!
Yeah, I've only recently discovered him, such a pleasure listening to him!

@@joshuaoverlord5327 "Half of their money" of which the business owner has plentiful and the worker has none. Cry me a river. Thanks for doing these interviews, Ms. Flanders.
What a full of shit
God to see Laura's again.
Cornell West is a national treasure. Prof Wolff too.
few things in life are as delightful, as seeing Cornel West and Richard Wolff hugging each other!
Thank you, Laura Flanders. You are a beacon of critical thinking
Is that why she invites two Marxists on the show rather than two opposing view?
Thanks for watching! :)
+rumco
I noticed that stroke of genius! 2 Marxists of a feather flow together like cream in the coffee...yum.
I'm afraid, btw, that to a certain degree, "male supremacy" is something of a necessity, quite dictated by nature itself.
No form of govt existing, can stop the rich from ruling from the top, and only vain dreamers think mankind is capable of some sort of cooperative arrangement of economics on a "multicultural "grand scale. Rich vs. poor is here to stay till kingdom come.
@@LauraFlandersAndFriends Just watched 2 minutes. 2 minutes and i know what this whole liberal bs is about. What do you think of our economy now?!?!? hahahahhahahaaa WRONG!!!!!!
"Critical Thinking"... that's what lands you unemployed in your parent's basement blaming everyone else for your laziness.
It seems only just to make fun of people still thinking marxism works lol
An old WWII vet described communism as when the government owns the factory. Capitalism was described as when the factory owns the government. Both economic systems, in their extreme are flawed. A hybrid economic system is needed, applying the good of each system without the negatives.
the video needs to be boosted in the TH-cam algorithm - not sure what's the most effective way to do that but sharing it in 2023 can't hurt !
Maybe we'll get our chance now.
We in the U.S. have been left in the dark about the qualities of democratic socialism. The grade school and university curricula are set by the 1% to make sure that we do not understand what is happening to us in the workplace and why. Capitalism succeeded in the 1950s only because we were untouched by the war. The breakdown of capitalism's promise for a reasonably stable and reliable life style has disappeared for the majority of workers.
steve davis damn right
american academia is dominated by socialist
What are you talking about? Capitalism succeeded because it passes the cooperation and allocation test, two things socialism does not. and the nordic countries aren't democratic socialist.

Good shows, your guests are some of the best to dissect the issues of inequality and other ills of capitalism. I can suggest at least two John Trudell and Oren Lyons, we indigenous folk have a unique and relevant perspective on the evolution of this euro-centric disaster that has us all concerned about the fate of our world because of the culture of "me" that has attempted to replace our beautiful "we" based indigenous cultures. Thanks for the program. Can't help reacting so positvly to the eloquent, musically and artistic approach Wolff and Cornel have when they present their thoughts. I can add Laura to that too. Life is interconnected and parallels can be drawn from all fields. I am a "Robin Hood " too. A Swedish poet, Nils Ferlin, said that a society is no better than how they care for their most vulnerable. I am in with that!
I can relate so good for you you made good of a bad situation god bless
Both of them look so happy to be there. It's just wholesome vibes.

Two of the greatest minds of our time.
It's not just the minds, but the courage to explore ideas.
Lmao Wolff Is a clown, there is a reason there are no socialist economists that are prominent.
Thomas Rosati Care to explain?
@@danielmadeson311 Socialist economists are rare, because socialism has failed many times, and still cannot solve the cooperation and allocation problems.
Thomas Rosati It depends on what form of socialism each country uses. There’s communism, plain socialism, authoritarian socialism, democratic socialism and social democracy. I’m sure there are more versions but those are the ones I know. FWI, they do not mean the same thing. Also, your half right in that some countries have failed with socialism like Cuba and yes Venezuela (though that country has other problems too) but others like Sweden, Denmark, France, and Scandinavia are doing well with it as well.

I agree and wonder if the shorter format is attract the people with the short attention spans? I could listen to these men every day.
Interesting reference to parallel individualism and cooperation with jazz. :)
Too bad parallels drawn between the arts and political culture go right over the heads of most viewers who are commenting by saying things like "Thank our Lord Jesus Christ for raising up Ronald Reagan to defeat communism"...
I could listen to Cornell all day 😎✌️
I feel so indescribably dissapointed when I watch countless great conversations that have already taken place well enough in the past that our societies could have already used as maps & blueprint inspirations to form a better way for all

Thanks Scott, I'll look into it.
West and Wolff, what a pairing! Great conversation. This showed in my reccs probably bc of Wolff, but I've watched some Cornel West clips recently too. Anyway I'll be checking out more on this channel.
Mr. West may have been a little stoned for this one. He's a groovy dude.
At 13:33 “people are afraid of Marxism…they think of Lenin they think of Pol Pot they think of Mao”…
People think of those monsters, and they’d damn well better, because history has demonstrated time and time again, unequivocally, that those are the sorts of horrendous creatures that emerge, and theirs are the monumentally ghastly sorts of deeds that proliferate, whenever marxism is implemented.
Why? Because marxism is based on hatred for the rich, and when that hatred for the rich meets the greed and self preservation of the rich, all hell breaks loose, literally, and the earth is turned into a living nightmare of mass murder and destruction.
Power will not concede without a fight.
-Fredrick Douglas

We must denounce and reject marx and his hatred with everything we’ve got, and go back to the reformist Owenist model, before marx corrupted it.

The real problem is the screwed banking / political system and a selected few steamrolling their way through all law and legislation all over the world. It''s global but originating in USA and Europe.
