    The awesome thing about Blue Springs is that, even though the tubing section is short (you can see the end of it from the beginning), you can walk right back to the start again so easily. I remember tubing down about 8 times. I was going to do a boat tour but then realized I was having way too much fun just tubing! Tubes were $10 to rent. SO worth it!

    The springs of FL are what I really miss about growing up in FL. Been living out in the Pacific Northwest for the past 6 years, and there's nothing like the cool clear FL springs out here (or the miles n miles of sandy beaches). I used to go to Blue Springs a lot on my days off work. Nothing more refreshing than a cold dip during intense fl summer heat.

    I live in a neighborhood on the Santa Fe. Nice thing about the Santa Fe and the Ichetucknee is that there are no alligators. In the 28 years I have been on these rivers, I have only seen one alligator on the Santa Fe and none on the Ich. Fort White is called the Home of the Ichetucknee, population 500. I live in Fort White or rather near it. High Springs and Fort White are my beloved hometowns. I feel very happy I moved here from California about 28 years ago. I chose my retirement place after many years of studying the real estate in this are. It's a great part of the world here in Florida.

    I was sitting wondering WHERE is ichetucknee …
    The ONLY thing I miss about Fl. My wonderful ex is a Live Oak native and I camped, swam and partied on these springs long before they became commercial. It appears our favorite spring is now in a residential area (Running, it’s actually 2 springs, right on the River, down from Peacock). One afternoon at 8months pregnant with our beautiful daughter, I was bitten by a sand scorpion. But MANY, MANY wonderful memories.

    • @artofadventurepascalemo
      @artofadventurepascalemo  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think we would get along great! Yes Florida’s best attributes are the springs and the beaches. Now I want to figure out where “Running” is!!! I know Peacock pretty well. I’ll have to do some digging! PS 🦂 scares the crap out of me 😳

    • @elaineg60
      @elaineg60 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@artofadventurepascalemo Running is a bit further down the “Lulu” road from Peacock. There used to be a very old small church on the left, across from the dirt road that went down to the Springs-a shallow one on the right, deeper on the left, right on the river. In fact we had a rope swing out into the river right between the 2 springs. My eldest tried to go there a few years ago, said there was a gate on the road and you can see houses on Google earth. It USED to be all St Joes Paper co land, the road didn’t have a name, I guess it was just a logging road. Would LOVE to know if you can still get to them from the river though.
      There was one point that we camped there every weekend for over a year. Marty’s dad, (a longtime former Fl congressman from Live Oak), would go through a lot of health crisis’s. His parents..I can say, they were 2 of the most wonderful people I’ve ever known. Anyways, it was easier to go back and forth from the Spring than Tallahassee.
      I’m not in the Poconos and when I tell people about the springs in Fl, they think I’m nuts. While the hills around here might be pretty right now, and we’ll have the “Winter Wonderland” in a few months, written about right here in the tiny town I’m in…I miss my Springs. Many folks up here think of Florida as beaches and Disney. I had one lady actually argue with me, insisting Miami was the capital, I was an “idiot”, and I was obviously lying about being from Florida. Thank goodness for Google on phones these days.🙄🤷🏼‍♀️😂. I told another guy about my high school days (and later, working for Wakulla EMS), down at Wakulla, Springs & river. I have a picture I took of the “Tarzan tree” hanging in my hall. Every full moon, my AP Science professor, took us canoeing down the river..we did some crazy things back in the days of invincibility. (ex: skinny dipping w gators). Anyways, he had NO idea that’s where Tarzan was filmed. My late Dad worked at the lodge during the filming and when my friend went home & looked it up..”OMG, YOU WERE RIGHT!,”
      Another spring I camped at with a large group out of Tally who has a “Decemberfest” every year…think of it as a small Woodstock, that’s STILL happening. We had it on the Econfina a few years-absolutely STUNNING! It’s a spring fed river near PC (take Hwy 20 from Tally, the “old way” to PC), and I know there’s a good sized spring head..I just never made it. I was busy “playing” paramedic…me and my big mouth…😂
      Do Ginny & Alexander still have all the tame squirrels? I had co-founded a wildlife Org many years ago, and we actually released some of our babies down there, (AND at Tallahassee’s “Junior Museum”)-because they were so people-friendly.

    • @artofadventurepascalemo
      @artofadventurepascalemo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@elaineg60 Amazing! Yes the squirrels do come right up to you! Haha. If I try to find Running which boat ramp should I launch my kayak? Now I wanna look 👀

    • @elaineg60
      @elaineg60 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@artofadventurepascalemo Anywhere Peacock or above. I think there’s one or 2 springs in between, but you’ll know Running…coming down the river from Peacock, on the left, first shallow spring goes under a short cave before coming into the river-unless the river is high & covering the “bridge”. (OHOH, Just remembered, a VERY OLD railroad bridge just before the springs.. a few hundred yards). Second spring..when we’ve kayak’d down to them, it’s easy to miss bc of the way it enters the river. I remember one time, passing it, looking back, “THERE IT IS!”-and we had spent YEARS going to these springs! The whole time we went to these springs, through the 90’s, there was a huge oak tree that had fallen across the 2nd spring. It’s much smaller than the shallow spring, BUT VERY deep, you could safely jump from the tree. I’ve been texting occasionally with Marty, I’ll text him and see if he knows if there’s still any public access. Our daughter is supposed to call me tonight or tomorrow; I’ll ask her to make sure about my timing..I don’t want to make sure I don’t make his wife uncomfortable.

    • @elaineg60
      @elaineg60 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just saw, meant to say I AM in the Poconos. Also, I’m glad the squirrels are still honoring the “tradition”. I knew in the early 2000’s they were still being a “nuisance”. 😂. An old friend, in fact the guy who does the yearly Decemberfest, called me out of the blue with “your damned rats are still here!!” He asked me if “Sissy #2” could still be alive because he saw a 3-legged squirrel….uhmm..as headstrong as both Sissy’s were; I highly doubt she lived to 15+, but…you never know! Last I heard our albino families were still reproducing at the Junior Museum, but were no longer as people friendly-which is a GOOD thing. I had hoped to release babies near the springs..but Marty said St Joes rented out land to hunters. I understand “hunting” is a big thing, including with my ex..but we would sometimes bring our “rats” with us when we camped and his buddies, after playing fetch, getting kisses, and even nutty Sissy (1) stealing chicken or bacon off their plates-she stole their hearts. I miss my critters..although NOW? I have Dr Kitty_Leela. A very unconventional kitty who never got the memo on mice..or chipmunks. She sits in the window in the spring, awaiting her friends to appear on our porch so I can let them in to play & cuddle. In the winter..mice move in, and my nutty cat feeds them, plays with them, cuddles with them…I give up.

    Of all these I only swam Rock springs. I’ve been to Blue spring but only during winter so didn’t swim. I’m a swimmer/snorkel not a tuber bc I love seeing underwater. Is it possible to swim the runs at Rainbow and/or Itchutukne? Or are they too long? Does anyone do that?

    • @artofadventurepascalemo
      @artofadventurepascalemo  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! Yes you do have swimming options. Rainbow River is like 6 miles from the spring head to Blue Run. I wouldn’t recommend swimming without some sort of float or SUP or something you could use to take a break. There are also boats and jet skis and I don’t think it would be very safe without a marker. If I want to swim Rainbow, I’ll put in at KP Hole and SUP upstream to the spring head. Then paddle downstream (just til you technically leave the park). Then I jump in and swim/snorkel with the SUP just floating next to me til I get back down to KP Hole. It’s about 1.5 miles each way. Ichetucknee, in my opinion, is perfectly fine to swim. You will still need to get a shuttle ticket to bring you back from the end of the run to the main parking lot. I do cover both Ichetucknee and Rainbow in their own videos if you want to check those out. It helps give a little more perspective! Have fun!!!!

      Yes there are gators in fresh water. But if you stay off the banks and out of the darker water you’ll be ok. They don’t tend to wander where there are a lot of people. BUT yes they are definitely around. Check out my Alexander Springs video from a few weeks ago for an “interesting” encounter 😳

    She was a mean, disgusting bully until she pulled the trigger and realized that she f**ked up. That's when she went from a bully to a victim or so she thought. She knew exactly what key words to say during this 911 call thinking she would be covered by "Stand Your Ground." NOT!!
