The blue tinge gives a hint of evil which suits the car’s shape and blacked out trim. Apart from the cost this turned out surprisingly well. What a great series. 👍
A lot of very creative hobbyists out there might not be able to afford to experiment with the color/pearl combos they've dreamed up, and the fact that you guys do so many experimental combos and techniques on here, showing not only the successes, but more importantly the FAILURES gives everyone a chance to see what would happen without risking everything they saved for buying dip on a potential flop, is just amazing. And the fact that you take a lot of suggestions from your audience when it comes to what projects to try makes it that much better. Being able to see the result versus being told, "Trust me, that won't work" is a huge value to the curious mind. It doesn't matter if the person telling you it's a bad idea is an expert in their field, as that doesn't always satiate the curiosity. Thank you so much for doing what you do! There's 2 big reasons I see why your company has been so successful. You aren't scared to play, and you care about the people who support you. I always look forward to your videos!
***IDEA*** Maybe you should keep a sample of the original dip gallon, before you add the shift pearls, to paint a sample shell to compare the difference with the final product. So in this case, if you had a test shell sprayed in only electric lime green, to compare with the car after, then we could really see the difference. The result was not that bad btw, it did shift quite well.
I like the neon green, and the subtle highlight from the pearl is pretty. It makes logical sense that you would get more colour shift from the pearl if it were in a clear coat over a green base though. So, it seems to me, that the question is whether there’s a market for a subtle effect like this at the cost or would require.
I appreciate the effort and risk taken in this one. You even had probably the biggest spill I’ve seen here pouring it. It looks cool definitely unique! Fun stuff I can’t wait to see what’s next
I was on the phone when it spilled and I interrupted myself with, "oh crap! WTH?!" 😂 I never did explain why I said what I said, and continued on with my conversation.
I think this is 100% a W. That very minimal color shift is SO DOPE. Should have done a red on the green to match the calipers, or dip the calipers a cyan. So sick!
I agree with this. The subtleness of it is actually more eye catching than the full blatant colour shift. This subtle makes you do a double take a lot more than the other.
I wouldn’t call it a fail, but I think you’d have had better results with going 1to1 Color/Clear mix with the pearls to dilute the color some. I could be completely wrong, but just a thought. Also, I agree with a few others, a gold/yellow flake or pearl might work better with this green
@@JYNXZI_SZNI think he was trying to see if it worked doing the pearl/shift in the base coat would work. It obviously works in a clear as that’s how it’s mainly designed to work. The solids coat the pearl/flakes and negates the effect. But a more transparent base, it would work better
Dilute the paint so that it is not as dark so the shift can take hold better. Like add 50/50 clear and color base, then the shift grams then mix and test it out. Maybe do some lab work, where you guys do some small batch samples and see what actually “could” work so you aren’t throwing away a lot of product on “fails”. I don’t think it was a fail. I give it a 1.5 out of 5. I do like it and think it is cool but nobody is ever going to notice that unless they know or someone else points it out first. It’ll just be a lime green car. To us watching we loved it because we saw the subtleties and the blues shifting etc. That’s a niche small group of us fans. Great job coming up with a unique idea and keep at it!
I actually like the end result. It adds a nice subtle shift effect but I agree it's probably not the best way to achieve that effect with lime, considering the cost. I'm looking forward to seeing more in this series. 3.5/5
At least a 3. I appreciate the fact that you are doing the experiments and showing the results without trying gloss over the fails. The honesty is awesome. Love the channel.
I really like the color -- you can definitely tell it cured and dried as a very very dense coat, it adds a nice depth to it. Does increasing the density by adding powder have any impact on the ease to peel it off?
I think a shiftable color you could try would be ZBO/ZBR and Black Cherry or Wicked Wine. I am feeling those colors together could make for something very subtle but perfectly suited.
One of my fav parts of your videos is watching the mixing with the dispersion blade. It gives a very mesmerizing first look at the potential of the color. SO Pretty! When you went to pour, I see why we didn't get the normal blending view. I give this a 5 regardless of whether the experiment worked as expected or not. You DID get a bit of shift where the highlights are, and acid green is one of my favorite colors. Had I the correct vehicle to support this color, it would be this color all day long. Alas, Subaru Forester.
When using these colors my sister accidentily made a color shift. Now, keep in mind that we did this with dice and not on a car, and also that the following is what is true for us so far and possibly not how it works in reality, but what we found out is the color you see from straight on needs to be the bottom layer, and very much opaque. the color you want to shift at other angles needs to be transparent, and over the main opaque layer. So to make your own color shift is doable, but takes a lot of practice and knowledge of layers. (and knowledge of how the pigments work.) I rate the attempt at a 2 simply for the cost, BTW, but I would love to see another attempt possibly using the theory above. Also, I know you guys have said that if we found interesting uses for these color pigments to shout out to you. So far: Fishing Lure making, Resin work (Dice), 28mm and 32mm scale models for tabletop wargaming.
Definitely not a fail. The change is a little subtle, some of the ability to see it might also just be lost in recording and playing on my screen settings, but it still looks very cool to me. And what's not to like with this base color -- it's awesome! Over all an easy 4.
I gotta say the more I see it the more it kinda grows on me. Definitely not a fail. I guess I would give this a 4 to 4.25. Pro-tip .... the little spout on the mixing container is used so ya' don't spill as much transferring the mix to the sprayer. Kidding (sort of). This is a good place to start for this "colorshiftifier series". Also a little $$ for me, but really glad you are doing this series - us a target on whether to save more $ to get this look.
5, I love this! Dwfinately my favorite, It's so nice to finally have a vibrant green without purple or magenta ... the blue is beautifully subtle and alieny or techy toxic. Awesomeness
I like the direction you guys are going and I would rate this a 5. Never in a million years would I consider driving a lime green vehicle, but those subtle blue effects hit different. As a viewer I think the direction you guys are going has value and what would be really awesome is if you showed us how to get this effect in a more cost-effective manner, you guys have the skill and the knowledge and it's great that you take the time to share the good and the bad. Thanks for all you do!
i actually think it achieved some of what you were going for! just for a much higher price. 4 for fearless experimentation ;) 1 on the price though... lol. as far as a darker base goes, Wicked Wine is one i'd love to see worked with in the series!
I like the subtle color change. Actually I prefer a less than "in your face" color shift. I would give it a "4" ranking, less than "5" because personally I'm not a fan of lime green and the excessive cost. Keep experimenting!
I actually love the look of this! Lime-green and black happens to be my favorite color combination. That being said, is it possible to get a hyper shift of those two colors? I would love to see that!
From a price point yeah it’s a bomb. From the way it came out. It’s different and cool as hell. The subtle blue makes you take that second look and say to yourself “wait a sec…is that blue I’m catching?” I dig it. Solid 4!!
I'm nearly a year late to the party on this one but I fail to see the fail. The hint of blue is gorgeous. Other than you stated you could achieve the same result with other choices for less money, I see this as a win both in lessons learned and a beautiful turnout. 💚
You should never doubt any paint job you do no matter what the outcome is there's always going to be someone that's going to like it and believe it or not it actually looks really good I love that little bit of hypershift such that it has 💙💜💚
5 that subtle shift I amazing. You get that base color and then you double take and having no idea what caught your eye then the shift hits you and you fall in love with it.
Bright green generally isn’t my thing, but I really like this one! If I didn’t know better, the subtle blue would make me turn to see what blue object it was reflecting. That’s when you realize it’s a totally *sublime* shift! Haha, I had to.
I actually love the subtle color shift. If it was possible to have like an Arctic White with a subtle Mint colored shift, then I think that would be gorgeous!
Id rate that as a 4 I've been watching since ironically enough, the world's most vibrant purple video and I have to say Fonzie I love your work and effort and you shouldn't stress yourself out too much I understand where your thought process is however it still turned out to be 100% as you said.
The color actually looks great with the black trim/accents, and goes well with that particular car. There's juuuuuust enough of a subtle shift that it complements the green. It says "well hello there," instead of "LOOOOOOK AT MEEEE!!!" I like it so much that I'll give it a solid 5. It looks intentional, exclusive, and easy on the eyes. If I saw that on the road, I'd think that the owner is wealthy, but modest; that they like (and can certainly afford) nice things, but they don't want to be too flashy or braggadocious.
The blue glints are subtle. If you see the car roll by the green will grab your attention, I doubt many people would notice the blue because of the green. I would love to see a dual spray. Two guns loads with a red to yellow and green to blue then spray the car in sections or stripes so you get a rainbow effect. I doubt it would work but you guys are masters with the spraying so if anyone could blend the two seamlessly it would be the DYC crew
I genuinely like it! Some of the more crazy shifts have a dull shift at extreme angles which puts me off. This is all colour with just a double take of a hint of a colour change. Yea, as a cost exercise, it's probably not a winner but as a pure aesthetic experiment, I think this looks great. Plus, mistakes aren't a fail if you learned something. 5.
You can easily a give a harder flop by adding the pearl to some clear, and adding it on top of the green, instead of adding it to the color itself. I've found that adding a layer of clear over my base color first, then adding the pearl on top of that, helps the pearl to float just above the color coat. This makes the pearlescent show up even more.
I love it!! Not with that cost...im sure you could come up.with the same color/effect for less, but the subtle blue pearl is gorgeous!! You could always park it in my driveway if you get tired of looking at it 😉
A solid 3 1/2 to 4. Nice subtle shift. I think a Purple shift would have made it Mind Blowing! I am a Joker fan so…. Still a beautiful job. What if you did a speckle spray? Sort of a 80’s throwback. Use the hyper shift with Black maybe? As far as wether the Black or the Green would be the base color should be your choice. Maybe do a test spray and see what looks better.
The blue is super subtle but looks good. If you could get the blue to pop a bit more this would fire. Kinda curious what it would look like doing it the other way you had mentioned and to compare the two.
That color is beautiful. You guys were talking about other colors to try. How about black cherry with the flake from the mustang dark horse? I think that would be a great mix.
I have to say this is in my top 5 favorite! The lime green has always been my favorite color but with the little hint of pearl to it absolutely set it off!!! 🔥🔥🔥
I painted cars waaay back, now I only paint/dye/stain guitars and other stringed instruments. Results will be dramatically different between pigments, which are soluble in the alcohol/thinner or water they are sprayed wit, and pigments, which are solid particles you can't see though. Generally, if I want to really jazz up a solid pigment based paint or stain, I'll mix the pearl or flake in a coat over the color in a clear coat. It would work well in this instance. You just have to run some test sprays to decide on the density. Love uour content!
I think the great thing about thus color is you didn't lose any of that great vibrant green by adding the shift on top of it. The effect is subtle. But if you like the green, you get the green but with a really nice shift on the angles. I think it looks great. But it really depends on what you're going for. If you wanted a really heavy shift this obviously isn't it. But to keep that pure in your face green with the the subtle blue shift. Its a great sports car color without being to much. Its a sleeper pearl.
I'm new to the channel and love it. Full of great ideas. I actually love the subtlety of this one. If give it a 4. Only reason I wouldn't go 5 would be the cost to do this one.
4. Like many others I see, I really like the subtlety of it, in as much as a lime green Evo can be subtle. It's a cool little touch, and just makes your highlighter build *that much more special than the next guy's.
Fonzie been doin curls! I like how you spilled so much pouring it into the sprayer tank too. That must have really stung knowing what the cost was. Final result is not bad, but I know it wasn't the plan. Proves that you guys are not able to fail.
*Well, we learn and move on right? Let me know your thoughts here* ⬇

As a fan of green I'd totally rock this. Solid 4 from me...
for the look 5, for the price for the look 1
4.5
The great thing about this color is you could make it literally any color you want in post production since it's already greenscreened
I’d love to see someone have it play a movie while it’s driving lol
You could even animate it :D
The blue tinge gives a hint of evil which suits the car’s shape and blacked out trim. Apart from the cost this turned out surprisingly well. What a great series. 👍
I'd call it Martian Green ♥️🤗👽💚👽🤗♥️Not bad at all....I agree. It worked. I gave a 3.5...But I could've went higher on the rating. Agree..♥️🤗👽💚👽🤗♥️
Definitely not a fail! I love the subtle color shift and the overall appearance of it!! I give it a 4
I agree, this is one of those super subtle and classy “if you know you know” colors. Kind of baller to spend so much on a subtle effect!
4/10?
@@kevinba7981 no 4 outta 5
My thoughts exactly Wade. Old timer here with some experience blending custom colors.
It looks great but wouldn't pay $1200 for it =/
I think it looks much better than normal color shifts. That subtle blue hue makes it more appealing to me for sure. 5 from me. 👍

Cyan calipers for the win.
I agree Randy!!! The colorshift isnt overpowering the green too much but you can still tell its there!!!
Very impressed with this. Not everything has to pop and hit you in the face, the subtlety works with this glorious green. 4.5/5

Basically asking if hyper shift works on a topcoat (mid clear coat) over the green base coat.

I really like this, it's a really subtle effect over a blow your socks off colour
I have to say this is in my top 5 favorite! The lime green has always been my favorite color but with the little hint of pearl to it absolutely set it off!!! 🔥🔥🔥
I love the subtle blue shifts in it
have to say is this one of the nicer colorways ive seen you guys do
I love the subtleties of it.
4 I think is very pretty, my hubby would love this colour 😊❤
Dude. That looks amazing. I understand the price is ridiculous. But the subtlety is perfect 👌
Not a fail. 4. Looks good. Retains the pop of the main color and adds a nice element. Even if it is on a mitsu 😋
I'm new to the channel and love it. Full of great ideas. I actually love the subtlety of this one. If give it a 4. Only reason I wouldn't go 5 would be the cost to do this one.
Love the subtlety.
Totally not a fail. Car turned our subtle yes but still sick none the less. Solid 3.5.
I didn't expect to like it as much as I actually do. I'm rating a 5 for seeing a color I typically don't like looking so beautiful.
It's such a subtle shift. Looks really good imo.
It looks like it actually did work pretty good the shift is very subtle but it's really nice I like it
