My husband and I want to THANK YOU for the vitamin D tip. My husband started taking vitamin D, and it has made a HUGE difference in his mobility. He had no idea that it would change his life like it has. He was having the same issues I believe that you were having. He said his legs feel great now. To be honest, he wasn't sure he was going to be able to ride. Now he's anxious to get back on. We live in Alaska, so it's going to be a few months. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing this information. Stay safe, and we love your videos.

Just remember to get your Vitamin D levels checked every year. You can adjust the dosage properly.

69 years old... but a fella on another channel (Old Not Dead) commented that if you can not do 14 push-ups you should not be riding.I took that advice even though I worked out. I have exercised since I was 18.. and still do it daily. exercise of any type is good. also x country skiing, archery and bicycling. all helps. tumaric and Krill oil work for me along with repetition weight lifting, lots of slow reps helps my joints alot. AGREE, LOTS of Water daily. Stay in the wind, Sir.👍👍👍💪💪💪

Pushups?? I haven't been able to do pushups for decades. I think the last time I did pushups was when I was in the military, back in the late '70s and early '80s. I don't see what that has to do with riding a bike. My main problems are getting on and off the bike due to a too high seat, and holding the bike up at a stop and low speed parking lot maneuvering. Once on the bike and cruising down the road, it's not much different from driving a car, IF the bars, seat, and pegs are in the right positions.

I turned 69 last week. My hip was replaced a couple of years ago. That has been a huge blessing. I don't put down the miles like i did in my youth but i find i really appreciate the privilege of riding more than ever. I started using Eargasm ear plugs last year. I believe it reduced the noise fatigue substantially. Trying to maintain upper body strength and leg strength. Thanks for your channel, always appreciate the content 😊

Im 69 and ride from Alaska to Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, and back to Sturgis. It was 17,000 miles, and the first 3000 was in 4.5-5 days. I found an air cushion seat pad works to get 2-300 miles a day more. Im not saying im better than anyone, but i do two aspirine at night and pound a 28-oz bottle of Power Aid, so i dont cramp. Legs are my worst. I do take 2000 tumruic, but i dont think it does anything for me! Again, after a few long days, i need rest. A day off the shakes go away, and im good. I wear a full-face helmet when it rains. I agree at my age healing isn't fast or easy. I wear a tee shirt and blue jeans. I have leathers but dont wear them. Im not in shape. Im fat and over weight. I tude alone. Canada is as alone as you can get. Its you, your bike, and nature. This is ME. Now this guy is different. His information is great. Listen to him. Also do some long rides and build your body to get used to it. Its 120 miles to town for me so it make a normal day to do 3-400 just going to shop. Know yourself and how you ride. In the morning when im getting going i might only go 50-75 miles and stop after thst its highway time in the saddle. Again im not any better than you. Im just in tune with my body and how i ride. This is why i ride alone most of the time!

Thanks for another great video; your suggestions are spot on! I'm 67 and rode from NY to South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana this summer; 6000 miles in two weeks. On the way back, we were riding 600 + miles on some days. Like you, I have the Saddleman SDC seat and found it comfortable enough for long haul days and perfect for running twisties in the Black Hills. I did try the padded underwear which seemed to help a bit. Like you I mostly wear a half helmet but for this trip I wore a modular LS2 helmet which allowed me to wear 3/4 or full face depending on the weather. Definitely appreciated the full face when riding in the rain

As an individual pushing 60 (9 months off), I watch videos with this sort of theme with a keen eye. Thank you VERY much for the advisories, which make sense whether you do ride (and I do) or don't. Every good wish for you now and in the future, and please keep these videos in production; it's wonderful to see someone say, "Another birthday? Ah, to hell with it, nothing's changed except that I've got to keep my eyes a bit more open." Looking forward to seeing more.

Great video buddy. So many good nuggets to take away. As far back as I can remember, I had grandparents that preached, taking a road trip, leave at 5, 6, 7am and shut it down an hour or two before dark. Gets you in the room, freshen up, grab some dinner, and unwind before you call it a night. We’re gonna get caught once in a while at dark, but one can get a lot of riding in between 6a and 3, 4pm… AND if you’re finishing up in a town not overly familiar with, nice to find your way to the hotel, to dinner before dark. Tumeric and so many other supps for inflammation over time are game changers; will provide incredible results from arthritis. Our body can’t perform at optimum levels when we’re loaded down internally with inflammation and certain foods, sugar and alcohol lend to creating inflammation. Great content brother!

I'm about to turn 65, and have been riding on the street since age 16. I rode 8 year on a small dirt bike before that. I didn't get my first Harley till 2003, a 1989 FXRS Low Rider. I still have it and ride it. I also have a couple of carbureted Sportsters. Before I got my first Harley, I rode mostly Japanese cruiser style bikes and dual sport bikes. I had to give up riding dual sport bikes. The seats were just too high, and I could not get my leg over the seat without standing on something. I also realized I would no longer be able to repair a flat with a tube type tire by myself out in the middle of nowhere. My upper body strength is fair, but I do have arthritis. My legs are the main problem. I have both bad knee joints and bad hip joints, as well as tissue damage in my legs. I was an A/C tech for decades, which meant carrying heavy loads up and down ladders all day. That's pretty much what wiped out my legs. I don't carry passengers. My biggest issue is getting on and off bikes, and holding them up at stops, and slow speed maneuvering in parking lots. Unfortunately, walking more than just a short distance in no longer possible. I always carry a cane on the bike.
I can ride 200-300 miles without too much discomfort, if it doesn't require a lot of stops. It depends on the bike. I wouldn't want to ride an 883 Sportster that far. My biggest problem with long distance riding is neuropathy. Sitting on a motorcycle seat becomes painful after a while. I found that a Beadrider seat cover helps a lot. Most people laugh at those, but they do work. A heel and toe shifter helps when the ride does include several stops, but it took me a long time to get used to one. Wearing knee braces and the right shoes, with non slip soles also helps. I wear steel toed work boots instead of riding boots. They help with both holding the bike up and shifting. While back support would help, I can't use a seat with too much step up in the back. I am unable to get my leg over that when getting on and off. I need the seat to be as low as possible, even if it is less comfortable. I much prefer a comfortable riding position over handling, since most of my riding is done out on the open highway. I have to have a good bend in my elbows, so most of my weight is supported by the seat. I need to sit upright. I have extreme stiffness in my neck, and I can't bend my neck back while riding. I need the pegs to be at an almost 90 degree position. I have mid controls on both Sportsters, but the FXRS has more forward controls. That's where the knee braces help.
I do like to be able to hear the exhaust (I wear earplugs and a full face helmet) so I have aftermarket exhausts on all my bikes. I also love vibration. All my Harleys are EVO powered. I test rode an M8, and was very dissatisfied with it. It felt and sounded just like a couple of Honda Goldwings I used to have. The main reasons I ride Harleys is the sound and vibration.
NEVER take ibuprofen. I have stage three kidney disease, and it was probably caused by ibuprofen. I took it for years because of my job. If I'm really lucky, I will make it through the rest of my life without kidney dialysis. I take a lot of vitamins as well, but they really haven't helped me. I just have too much physical damage from what I did when I was younger. 20/20 vision is one of the few things I still have that works right. I live near Phoenix, AZ, where it is 110 degrees all summer, and night is pretty much the only time you can ride. That extreme heat is not only miserable, but dangerous. More than once I have almost passed out from it.
I am NOT an ATGATT guy, never have been, never will be. I refuse to wear an Apollo moonsuit to ride a motorcycle. I do highly recommend a full face helmet. A LONG time ago, I wore 3/4 helmets with a snap on face shield. Then I met a former rider who had crashed while wearing one of those, and landed on his face. I immediately threw mine away and got a full face helmet, and have worn nothing else since. But I am NOT a helmet snob. I don't wear expensive helmets. As long as it is DOT approved, fits properly, and is comfortable, that's fine for me. My current helmet is a $150 HJC. I won't wear a modular helmet, because I don't trust the latching mechanism. Twice, while riding at around 80 mph on the highway, I was hit in the face HARD. Almost knocked me off the bike, and caused tissue damage in my neck. I don't know what it was the first time, but it broke the face shield. Had I been wearing a beanie and sunglasses, I almost certainly wouldn't be here anymore. The second time it was a large bird. Again it almost caused me to crash. When you hit a large bird at 80 mph, you know it. My face shield was covered with so much blood I couldn't see. I had to open it and carefully ride to a place where I could wash it. My neck hurt for weeks. I mostly wear a full face helmet for protection from the wind and all the debris in it, which can include birds, rocks, and who knows what else. I do not use any kind of windshield. To me a plastic barn door in front of you just takes the fun out of riding. Handlebar, and fork mounted windshields can also be dangerous. While I was trying to ride with a windshield, I was hit with a strong gust of wind, the windshield caught it like a sail, and almost tanked the bars out of my hands. I did get blown over an entire lane. Fortunately it was unoccupied. Other than a full face helmet and a pair of 6" leather steel toed work boots, that's pretty much it for me. I wear a jacket and gloves if it is cold enough. I wear regular jeans.
One thing I absolutely do not do is put a smart phone on my handlebars (I do not and have never owned a smart phone, and never will) I use an old school flip phone that only functions as a phone. And while riding, I always keep it put away so it cannot be a distraction. I used to carry a SPOT device back when I rode my dual sport bikes out in the middle of nowhere, but I have had to give up that kind of riding. I have never had a stereo on a bike, or any kind of communicator. I've never understood things like that. Not only are they distracting, but they are something else that would definitely take the fun out of riding. I ride alone. Just me, the bike, and the road. I have ridden hundreds of thousands of miles that way. To me riding is about relaxing. That's why I like the open road. Less to do, less to look out for. I have never crashed. Eventually I plan to convert my 2006 Sportster 1200 into a trike, when I feel my legs are no longer strong enough to be safe on 2 wheels.

Hello! Thanks for this video. I’m approaching 60 and I love long rides. Did 5,550 miles in two weeks last summer and had 8 days of over 500 miles. This was a very informative video and I’m going to follow a lot of your tips.
I walk 5.5 miles every morning and watch what I eat very carefully. The walking is amazing for my body and the food management is great for my weight… and as you know both are important for long distance riding.
I take supplements but I’m going to heed your comments on vitamin supplements to make sure that I’m up in things. I wear trifocals and have clear glasses for night riding and sunglasses for the day… and both are just the distance prescription. Keeps me going without squinting.
Red meat is almost gone from my diet… lots of leafy greens and fruit.
I couldn’t agree with you more about hydrating. Every time I stop for gas I drink at least one bottle of water and try to finish two. The wind leaches the hydration out of our system and after 50 this becomes a thing. I’d rather stop more often for bathroom breaks than be dehydrated.
Anyhow; thanks again for the video. Be healthy and keep riding!!

I ride out Denver Colorado. Been ridding for 57 years- still going strong. You have some very good tips. I find high quality ridding boots with insulation are great to keep the heat off your feet and legs in the summer. Lots of sun screen face and hands and bandana on your neck to keep from getting sun burned. Love those new mesh jackets with armor! high quality ridding gloves both hot and cold weather keep both types on the bike. Very high quality sun glass or visor. I wear nothing that flaps in the wind. The biggest lesson in life I learned came from my flight instructor - you don't really have to be anywhere at any time- safety first! Enjoy the ride and stop often meet new friends! Don't forget the cold beer at the end of the ride- Ok two or three! Stay safe!!

Getting bars more to shoulder height, frame mount pegs helped. Fancey seats not too much help.
Big thing too is not trying to be a long haul trucker. Those romantic days of 25 years old riding all day, keep it real with a plan.I can ride more but be more selective for my age.

If you don't know your way around, you're in the same crowd as the foreigners and out of staters. No one knows where they are going up there. Orlando is bad in the summer time. Find a warm spot to live year round buddy up around the Gulf Coast near the FL panhandle. As we get older we clearly don’t need those cold environments any longer, and nobody needs that set back of slipping on the ice, falling and breaking something. Stay warm, stay upright, and stay active; don’t hibernate come winter. Time to move south as soon as you can.

Thank god I’ve been lucky to be able to take long rides through out the years. I’ve been going to the gym 4-5 days a week since I was 33 yrs old and take hand fulls of vitamins, which I think has helped. It’s a bitch getting old but it beats the alternative!! You will feel amazing, give it a try, just try it for 3 months, you will thank me later. Im 60 been doing it for two years, I feel like a 25 year old.

@@HarleyGeezer1954 I know that’s what you said in your follow up video, you kinda hinted at changing it back or opting for something different. All Great tips as we get older, Health is Wealth! Without it you are so screwed to what you can do. I use to every so often have to go out on a wrecker call at night when I worked at a dealership I all ways said nothing good happens after midnight and unfortunately now I say after dark so I don’t like driving at night bike for sure but even if I am traveling in car on trips my eyes are old! Keep the rubber down sir,,,,,,

As 8 turn 48 this year I understand. Ive only got little more that 125k under me on the bike in the past 12 years cause of work. I rode a sportbike till two years ago when I got my first Harley (Heritage). In that time ive put on almost 40k of the miles.
I did some long rides on my Ninja that wasn't bsonbad but as I have traveled (by my own vehicle and not company car) for wor for the last 25yrs I found ineand to do it on the bike oncee I started riding. I even don it on the Ninja. Ive done more long distances on the ninja than the Harley but that is changing this summer. Starting with a trip to the keys from Tampa or at least to Homestead to the Quarry Castle.
Cause I'm planning all thes long trips im doing all the resuch I can to make it better as I get older and start to do more moles than I have ever done.
I am planning on documenting it and posting for my family. Till I get to the ksu time it's prep and more prep of me and the bike. Maybe I'll see you down the road

I turned 73 4 months ago, and ride a 98 Goldwing SE...my favorite of all I ever owned. You are right about all you cover in this video,,especially walking and supplementing. I take D, B-12, B-Complex, Selenium, Potassium, Magnesium,,,and lots of Vita C. And WATER !! But don't get me wrong,,age 73 is still the new 73 ! (if you think that sounds expensive, compare it to the other option...serious decline in health of organs and lots of medical expenses) what age are you ?

I'm 54 and starting to have different issues crop up on long rides. I was taking tumeric but haven't been lately. I should probably start again. What brand do you take? Also, what bars, brand and height do you have? I've been looking and hoping to get some soon. Thanks!

I go to the seasoning section in the grocery store and buy a bottle of ground Tumeric, put it on my meals, protein shakes, across my eggs over easy, etc… it’s a game changer. Tumeric, Cayenne Pepper, Cinnamon, in a protein shake daily is a game changer over time.
