Sharp! The four count and the halt when done properly adds to the crisp execution of the movements. The arms up shoulder high instead of the lazy waist high garbage I see more often than not these days reminds me of the time when drill was meant to be done with drive. The words of command are given in a forceful manner and the movements of the Guard are reflected in the words of command. Well done Van Doos!
Thank you very much for your stunnung comment! Best wishes and have a fantastic weekend!

oldesarge2000 I have to admit that I'm no fan of the American style of drill, especially their slow March... Their style reminds me of something a high-school band would do... Different strokes!
Squint your eyes a little and you could have been watching a ceremony in London, save for some tweaks to the drill. Respect as always from a Briton who is proud of our Canadian cousins.
Well the way they hold and handle their arms is quite different to what you would see with the Guards on duty in London. The uniforms of the bandsmen aren't the same either. En anglais, habituellement c'est 'Shun' (attention - garde à vous), Stand at ease, Stand easy, By the left, quick/slow march, Halt, etc. Il me semble que ce régiment a déjà monté la garde devant le Palais de Buckingham.
Great work.. You are truly great ambassadors to the world. There are also two terrific citadels in the great province of Nova Scotia...one at port City of Halifax and the reconstructed French Fortress of Louisbourg on the Island of Cape Breton.
I mentioned somewhere else, that these are Regular Force, combat-ready Canadian soldiers from the Royal 22e Regiment (The Vandoos), which parade daily morning and evening all year (including during winter - allowance made for the weather), by duty roster, as part of their posting to La Citafelle, from CFB Valcartier, QC. The goat’s name is Batisse”. They are not in competition with those on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, which are summer university students, employed for the sole purpose of parading. All the commands are given in French. The Vandoos have won many battle honours during WWII and are much respected in Canada and by the NATO Forces all over the world. Some of the people in that parade have served on NATO and UN duties, lately in Afghanistan. And that includes those in the band also, The ranks they wear on their sleeves and shoulders are for real and so are the medals they wear. It’s not a show for the tourists but the public is invited, most are part of a group tour but individuals are welcomed, subject to some form of admission, but armed forces personnel fm all countries with official identification are given a priority welcome, The Citadelle is a Canadian military installation.
Thank you very much for the great, detailed information! We had no problem to watch the ceremony :-) We came to the castle, paid at the entrance and could go to the place :-) Best wishes and have a fantastic week!
The Vingt Deux looked after us very well in Cyprus. They were in the Ledra Palace, and looked after the Green Line in Nicosia. We were the Armd Car Sqn on Nicosia airfield. Very hospitable.
Just love the click click of the steel on the heels. I had horse shoes on my boots, Good on the parade square but deadly if parade is in the gym or any building with polished floors
Does anybody know why this regiment do their drill so differently from other Canadian regiments? Their timings are much longer and they do an extra slap with their right foot before halting?
Thank you for your question, but please read the video description or our blog: "During the summer, the changing of the guard in typical British style takes place every day, but never without the mascot of the Canadian Royal 22nd Regiment, Batisse, the Royal Goat with gilded horn protectors. It is a direct descendant of the royal goat herd of Queen Victoria, which was once given to the Queen by the Shah of Persia. The original native country of Batisse was the highland of Tibet. The goat made a peaceful impression, presumably unaware the honor that has been given to it." All the best and have a pleasant time!

Their drill is completely British as well. They maintain the older british movements that were changed in the UK because of the adoption of a different style rifle.

@@natheniel I thought that but I noticed that the Royal Canadian Regiment and the Governor General's Foot Guards did the same thing
They are merely slightly exaggerating the "check pace" usual before a halt or change of direction following the command.

Where did the British find these hats? On a French soldier. What war? Napoleon's war. So the British literally wear French hats.
Damn King Louis XV of France just had to not abandon us to the English in 1763. I remember being born under the lily and growing up under the rose! 🙂
