@Mally Canning the military citadelle was built by the British as well as most of the heavy industry. The citadelle replaced wooden pallisades built by the French.

@@klarissaclairiton9010 Lol. Wooden palissades... Bunch of lies. It was a stone fortification, built by the French, when the English came in 1759.
      (Wikipedia)
      Early fortifications
      French-rule:
The first protective wall (enceinte)-Major Provost's palisade-was built by command of Governor General of New France Louis de Buade, sieur de Frontenac and completed just in time for the Battle of Quebec in 1690.[6] Three years later,[6] a plan by engineer Josué Boisberthelot de Beaucours for new, 75-metre (246 ft)[6] wide enceinte was developed by the French military engineer Jacques Levasseur de Néré and approved in 1701 by King Louis XIV's Commissary General of Fortifications, Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban.
The proposal to build a full fort was deemed by the government in France to be too costly, despite both the importance and vulnerability of Quebec City.[7] After the fall of Louisbourg in 1745, considerable work on the battlements took place under the direction of military engineer Gaspard-Joseph Chaussegros de Léry.[6]
      Also:
Ramparts of Quebec City (Wikipedia):Located in Canada, the Ramparts of Quebec City are the only remaining fortified city walls in North America north of Mexico.[1] The British began REFORTIFYING the EXISTING walls,[2] after they took Quebec City from the French in the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in 1759.
The wall, which runs on the eastern extremity on the Promontory of Quebec, surrounds most of Old Quebec, which was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1985.[3] The fortifications were designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1948.[4]

One of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. Been there about 12 times at different times of the year and one of my fondest memories was of beautiful women I met at the Bonhomme Carnival

Don Corleon. What in your opinion is the best season to visit. Is December miserably cold.

    • @doncorleone8686
      @doncorleone8686 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@briannemorse2464 it depends on your preferences. If you enjoy the cold then you can visit Québec for one of the best winter festivals called the Bonhomme Carnival which runs from end of January to mid February.
I would stay away for the month of August. Very hot and humid
Personally my favorite months are September and October. The days are a little cool but a nice sweater makes the walking tour of the old city very comfortable.
Spring days are nice but expect wet and damp days and also possible snow even in the month of April.
I have gone there for the Carnival and in the fall months( the most enjoyable). If you don't speak French no problem because you will be greeted as family and made very welcome which is not the case with Montreal

@@briannemorse2464 when you entered Vieux (Old)Québec it will look like you stepped into a 16th century city in France. Enjoy. May I suggest you take a walking tour for the 1st day to get a feel of the city and then explore the rest of the city on your own for the rest of your stay.

Beautiful visual and aural Quebec City experience! Although I usually travel to Quebec City in winter, I must journey there in spring and summer to witness the natural, architectural and cultural majesty that you have revealed, here, before our eyes. Also in nicer weather, one can climb the various staircases to the Citadelle and the staircases near the major gates -- something that is forbidden in winter because the snow-covered steps make for hazardous conditions. So, thank you for these gorgeous images and the inspiration!
