  • The Changing the Guard ceremony on Parliament Hill is a colorful spectacle with music and one of the tourist attractions of Ottawa, Canada. From late June to late August the parade takes place every day at 10:00 am in front of the parliament buildings. The Ceremonial Guard consists of two regiments, the Governor General's Foot Guards and the Canadian Grenadier Guards. The guards are mostly students, primary reservists in the Canadian Forces. The Changing of the Guard ceremony is the only replica of the ceremony at Buckingham Palace in North America.
    As a non-Brit one is skeptically towards the spectacle. Only, when one is dealing with Canadian history, you realize that the British have won major battles against a numerically superior opponent and you can recognize the meaning of these parades. Reason for the military superiority was their discipline and exact implementation of what has been learned in exercises.

      @@chriscrilly8807 both units share the task of public duties, five days of parades then the other regiment takes over. Rinse and repeat the entire summer

    We appreciate your effort in taking the video thank you! If I can request since you have a good camera will you try to keep it close up so that we can see the soldiers faces at least I know they spend months in sweat ,heat, thirst ect. training for these events just for Canadians and people around the world to see and have a glimpse of history through the parades.

    We don´t know. We think the officer is looking if it is clean. We also were wondering about this scene. He has to trust his soldiers.

    Personally I think that their uniforms aren't fitted correctly, they seem too baggy on the stomach and arms, forming creases in the fabric, it makes them look messy

      It's fitted according to tradition. It's the same requirements in all the other regiments. It's not our 'modern tastes'. :)

    • @alvindurochermtl
      @alvindurochermtl 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Frédéric-Alexandre Decelles if it was fitted traditionally they should be snug fit and not baggy as shown in the video or as OP said. Most ceremonial uniforms or Full Dresses are based on the designs of Edwardian European armies and back then everything was snug fit.

      @asimoes1974 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes to see if it's clean, the drill movements leading to this inspection open the ejection port cover so you can look down the barrel with light entering through the opening

    Soooo, what's the deal with sticking your eye down the muzzle? There are other ways of checking if the weapon is unloaded, safer ways. But that's none of my business. Lol.
