The SVX was not intended to be an all out performance sports car. it was more of a luxury GT, it´s suspension was mostly oriented to sports, and also you can tell by the lack of a manual transmission. eventhough it was the most powerful in this race, it was also the heaviest by more than 600 lbs to the next one. the result of this race reflects all those little facts.
In this circuit competition, the Subaru SVX plays the role of underdog. However, I think the reason why this heavy car is not at the bottom of the list is due to Subaru's high level of technology.
That SVX has VTD and maybe even 4WS, if he just kept his foot down he would have smoked those guys... The prelude driver was driving very aggressively. I'm surprised the R32 was not in front as well.

I think you're right about amateur. At 6:53 he appears to not be braking properly.
if the svx had a 5 speed like all the other cars had it would have put up a much better fight.
To his credit though he probably just bought the car. This was filmed 1 month before mine was even built.
