- I just had to get my hands on this His Master's Voice Vintage Radiogram Cabinet when it popped up for free on the marketplace. I have wanted something to display my record player and vinyl for quite some time, and this piece of furniture just seemed so suitable! By far, the most fun I have had doing a restoration.. I am in love with the result of this cabinet makeover and would love to know what you think.

Someone’s going to cherish that!
It might have to be me ;)
Nice work. Very retro. Thank you for posting your work
Many thanks! Appreciate you watching :)
Great reveal at the end, the difference is like night and day. Good save on this one 👍
Thanks for sharing ,nice restoration
What a great project - looks brilliant. Perfect reuse too.
Thank you, yes I think it’s a good use for it too :)
@@flipitnation I am also a vinyl person and now you've got me thinking!
That’s a transformation that I would love to be there and see with my own eyes. I am pretty sure the video does pick up all the work that you have put into it. Merci! À la prochaine!
It's hard to fit the hours and hours into a video but I try to share as many of the interesting parts as I can. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment, I appreciate it!
Great job Mate, a bluetooth speaker come CD storage would be nice also, have a nice day all !!!👍👍.
Thank you, yes a bluetooth speaker would be awesome. Could even hide it behind the exisiting speaker covers. There is a guy in my city who takes old radios and converts them into bluetooth speakers, a great way to a have a functional piece of history in the house and upcycle the old units!
Great restoration! You certainly bring out the beauty of the wood in these projects. Excellent work!☀
Thank you very much, I am glad you enjoyed it :)
Love your McGuyver moves 😊
Haha, thank you :)
You did a great job! I am so happy you didn’t resort to paint on this one. 16:26 ❤
Nice job... AGAIN! 👍 You took the radio back to where it came from & the end result is beautiful. Often times, less IS more & I think that's what you were going for.
Back in the day, my cousin & her hubby used an old radio in the bathroom as a vanity. Then they used an MP3 player & a Bluetooth speaker to saves space. The area at the bottom to hold vinyl records in was turned into an area to hold bathroom stuff & clean towels. I wish I could attach a picture but I'm sure that the pic's on an old phone anyway!
Stay safe, happy & healthy.
Thanks again for sharing just a bit of your Lil Guy!
Agree, often less is more! I really enjoyed trying to keep this one as original as possible. That's actually a pretty cool idea and would have been a talking point, I am sure! If you ever come across that picture I would love to see it! That's the problem with phones nowadays, we don't print pictures anymore! Thank you for watching :)
@@flipitnation It was a good idea. If I'm ever going through pictures on old phones I'll try to get you a copy of the radio sink. It was pretty cool because even the sink, counter top & faucet were "period". Claw foot tub, old porcelain towel racks, toothbrush & soap holder, toilet paper holder, etc...
Anywho, sorry for yacking your 👀 eyes out!
Good vibes from Southern California USA 🇺🇲❤️🤟
Those two knuckleheads & his 16 year old daughter tiled the entire kitchen in pennies. They took the birth year of family &: friends. They found pennies from that year & put them all in an area on the bar. It turned out beautiful & wait for it... I have a picture of it on one of my old phones. Hahaha!
BTW: I forgot to mention that you did a great job of keeping the radio 💯 as original as possible. It wasn't a total restoration but you did do well with the Crazy Glue & knobs.
Nice job, mate. 👍 😊🇦🇺
Thanks 👍 Appreciate it!
Beautiful piece.❤
Oo-very nice job with the details and staying true to the original. 👍🏻
So cool. Great flip 🎉.
Thank you, Cheers!
I’m a sucker for all wooden radio cabinets especially from the 20s through about the 70s and you knocked this one outta the park. Now for your next project MacGyver, it has to be done using only a paper clip and a rubberband.
If my next project is catching a goldfish, then I think I might be able to do it ;) Do you have any idea when this piece might have come about? I have tried to research it but can't seem to find any that resemble it. Thank you for watching!
@@flipitnationHave you thought about contacting a vintage radio club for help identifying it?
Absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing your talent. 💕
Beautiful ❤
Thank you!
Nice work.
Thank you! Cheers!
It looks amazing!
Thank you very much!
Very cool piece! Nice job!
Thank you very much :)
Lovely! 🙂
Thank you! 😊
I would be so proud to have this in my house😍my husband and I both love Northern Soul music and he has a large vinyl record collection. We both love this HMV classic ♥️
Oh wow, very envious of his collection! I wish I could have kept this one, it’s still my most favourite piece to date. I might look for another one actually, and keep it this time! Thank you for watching 😎
Que mueble tan bonito y que gran trabajo!! Saludos desde Madrid, España
¡Muchas gracias, aprecio que estés mirando! Kia Ora de Nueva Zelanda
Amazing!
I absolutely love this! ❤️
Wow! You outdid yourself on this one!!!!! Great job!! You know I loved that peek a boo face of your little one 🤗
Thank you Kim, he will have a hammer in his hand before I know it - growing so fast!!
Great restoration!
Thank you very much!
Ok, MacGyver. 😉 Great use of what you have on hand! I really love the final product.
Also great score on the Two Trees TTS!
Haha, thanks mate :) Pleased you love the final product, appreciate you taking the time to comment!
Beautiful,,really beautiful.
This is just amazing. I love it too bits.
Thank you very much! Glad you appreciate it 😎
Nice job! I love your camera work!
Thank you very much! I try and put a lot of effort into my filming and editing, appreciate you noticing :)
Awesome job Cole. If you ever come across another one that you want to refurbish completely , there is a guy in North Canterbury that does all the insides to make it a working radio.
Keep up the great work 😊😊
Cheers for the heads up, that must be one clever fella! So many parts, I couldn’t even begin to understand where and how all the pieces work together! I’ll keep that in mind, would be super keen to get a complete refurb on a similar piece. Thank you 🙏
@@flipitnation he is rather clever. It would be awesome to have a working one, unfortunately people just throw them away theses days.
Glad you went with the idea of putting your business name on the back . It looks great.
GROOVY BABY!!!
Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here
You're both right: digital music lacks a lot of what we took for granted with analogue. It cannot reproduce the layers of sound authentically, and a lot is lost. Try listening to an original recording on record - or even tape - and compare it to the sound of a digitally remastered version. Examples: Pink Floyds Wish You Were Here or Oxygen by Jean-Michel Jarre. Two ablums I know backwards and forwards and yet the original recordings are much greater depth of sound and tone, and the layering of music with instrument on instrument is so much deeper. Digital music seems to 'skim' the sounds and just pick what's prominent or on top, relying heavily on exagerated bass and low notes for depth of sound rather than the weight of the music itself. It's like Music Lite.
I remember those when I was younger 😂! They were the talk of the town. Turned out beautiful and I love that you left the original aspects of the stereo! Absolutely gorgeous! What a precious sweet baby 💞! 😊
Thank you!! 😊 I wanted to keep it as original as I could! And yes, he is a sweet little fella, I am very lucky!
Fantastic job!!
Great restoration, great video❤️
Thank you very much, I appreciate that :)
Super cool - I recently did a record player cabinet too 😊
Did you keep it?
Looks gr8 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
É um belíssimo trabalho, e um lindo bebê!!! Parabéns.
Looks fantastic !! Wonderful job 😊😊
Thank you very much! Cheers :)
From the middle of California USA, I say you did a MAGNIFICENT JOB! Well, well done and thank you for sharing. Blessings!
Thank you very much for taking the time to watch my video and leave a comment, I am glad you enjoyed it :)
Que gran restauración, buen trabajo, saludo desde Barcelona.
I would have attached those radio knobs onto potentiometers and connected the potentiometers up to a media-PC installed inside the space the radio components were in originally, probably a system geared to play internet radio and also regular radio, and then have the potentiometers set up to control various settings and selectors on the media PC. An LCD monitor could have been placed where the radio dial was, or could have instead been placed out separately on top of the cabinet and perhaps disguised as a picture frame.
That said, without the aspect of having a media device inside the cabinet, the now faux radio dial staying in place was a fine choice.
Just saw on my TH-cam. This is stunning😊
Hi,
Great job looks terrific. It's really heart warming to watch a classic piece of entertainment furniture brought back to life. Looking forward to watching what other projects your new laser printer will be useful for. Are you keeping it or selling it?
Hi, Thank you for watching, appreciate it. Yes I am very keen to see what other things the laser can help with, I have a few ideas in the works. I am pretty torn about weather to sell of keep the cabinet, I think I am leaning towards keeping it. I am quite attached!
The old electronics had so much more personality.
I agree, sadly the internal components of this one were way out of my league. Would have loved to get a full restoration done if $$ was no object. What was salvageable (not much) went to a professional restorer for spare parts.
Mate, you've done it again; what a result! Brilliant:)
Thank you for saying so :)
Beautiful work! You could add a QR code of your channel to the plate with your name. This way when people get the piece they can find you and know how the piece was restored.
That's a great idea! Thank you for the tip :)

Bloody nice one, Cole! She's a beaut. Did you find a 'Made in ...' sticker or label anywhere? Curious to know if these were imported or made local. My grandfather used to work for Tisco back in the day. Hes the sort of guy who could have fixed this, but sadly, like so many who can do these repairs, he has passed on.
The only thing that made me frown was not painting the new HIS MASTERS VOICE gold. Geez lol
Man, now I am kicking myself for not painting it! It literally never crossed my mind but it's such an obvious thing to do!! I sadly didn't find a sticker on the unit itself but I'll take a look on the components I took out and see if I can find anything although they may not have been made in the same place - I will let you know. Sorry to hear about your grandfather, I bet he was a fine craftsman, very hard to come by these days!
Very nice
Cheers!

Thank you :)

Do you know the history? The display (glass) looks “30s or 40s” but the cabinetry looks early 60s. Beautiful work! Not my style, but another piece rescued from dump/tip!
bring back your skateboard intro 😀
Will do, I agree it needs to come back!
👍🌟
Thank you 🙏
I'd have taken the electronics to a specialist for refurbishment. Would put loads on resale. Far too many of these Radiograms are chucked out.
There was a lot missing and a lot of damaged electronics but I gave what was left to a hobbyist for spare parts. Sadly my budget for this piece didn’t stretch into 4 digits for electronic refurbishment which is what I was quoted. I agree, so many are thrown out. They are such beautiful pieces.
Is it possible to be careful with the microphone pops every time you pronounce the letter " p " or similar, just stand farther from the microphone or use a screen? Thank you. It is very hard to listen with headphones.
Thank you for this constructive feedback, I have noticed this too and will try a screen or maybe upgrade the microphone. I know how annoying it is to hear microphone pops. Cheers!
