The F40s on New Jersey Transit are F40PH-2CATs, which are essentially F40PHs equipped with a separate Caterpillar HEP generator. 4124 has been sold to the Grand Canyon Railway in Arizona.
i do miss seeing these F40PH-2CAT"S it's been 7 to 8 years last time i have seen them. glad they still have the GP40PH-2's. i used to work for NJ Transit.
I remember them diesel locomotives running on the Northeast Corridor the diesel Express started out of Hoboken then they ran it 5:15 p.m. 6:15 p.m. 7:15 p.m. And 8:15 p.m. And they always end up in Trenton New Jersey and then they all will run back to Hoboken
Oh, man, I wish I could have witnessed that! What an awesome sight that must've been... thanks for watching and for sharing your fascinating memories, Juan! Be well!
It's nice to see that New Jersey Transit still uses those commuter diesels that originally came from the New Jersey Central Railroad what are those diesels called again?
Hi what a great video love Jersey Transit are there any more gp40 FH or pH units being used I live in Upstate New York Iowa Pacific had two of them g p 40 f h - 2 they have been moved from Saratoga to Chicago Excursion service has been discontinued I would think the Port Jervis line has the most thank you
Chicago Metra still maintains their Fleet of f40ph locomotives and had a few of them rebuilt into f40ph-3s the only diesel that is extremely rare on Metra are the f40c locomotives engines 611 and 614 are the only ones left in operation
Stumbled across this quite by accident having found one of your other vids. I live in the UK and my fiancee and I visited New York last September and went to the terminal at Hoboken just to have a look around. It was so atmospheric with the loco powered trains and the bells ringing that we went back the next day to take a ride on one! We asked where to go to see freight trains, and someone said Secaucus, so that's where we went. No freight there though but it was an interesting ride and we loved the tone of those engines! As I understand it those F40s are being phased out so we were lucky to catch them. The terminal too is being remodelled, hope they don't ruin it! It's all multiple units in the UK now, no loco hauled passenger trains except the occasional special charter. Boring boring boring. I drive steam locos on the East Lancashire Railway and we also have a large fleet of diesels, so that's where I get my nostalgia top ups! Thanks for posting, happy memories.
I was working next to the Secaucus station not long ago. That is one busy place! There's a cool abandoned tower by the river on the left side of the tracks if you're looking west from the station. Sweet NJT F40s and nice video Kyle!
+engineerpat 5290 Metro North and NJ Transit have an agreement to utilize each others equipment over the NJT Hoboken Division and Metro North's West-of-Hudson service.
The MTA locos are pulling trains on the Port Jervis Line along the ex-Erie Line toward Binghamton. Since most of the line runs outside of NJ, they cant operate it.
I love this video
Thank you so much! I'm very glad to hear that!
Now I want to go to Secaucus
Wow, that's sad. Didn't realize that NJT is silently ditching all the F40's. Great video.
It was a truly upsetting time .

We’ve still got 4119 and 4120 of the NJT EMD F40PH-2CAT

Kyle, another great video.

I believe the ex-CNJ engines are GP40PH-2 locomotives!
TrainiacProductions from what I remember the GP40PH-2s replaced the former Erie Lackawanna U34CH U-boats in 1994
Antiques? lol.
Trainiac returns to the NEC...
Your videos are indeed very cool. It's like an actual storyline as you narrate. I had to sub to your channel.

4217 goes up north! wow. 4217 is a common engine on the Alantic City line in South Jersey.
J&B Productions
A lot of engines go places. Equipment moves, etc. Sometimes, you'll just be surprised at what you see.

That Dynamic Breaking from those F40s

Nice catch I'm glad New Jersey Transit still has those engines in storage in case they're needed
Thanks Kyle, for a very interesting enjoyable video. . .
Have you noticed how good they sound when amplified by the rock walls of the Bergen Tunnels?
I love the sound of the diesels its sad they're being phased out I live in south jersey so these are the only ones I know
amandala lamb
I used to live in South Jersey. And the Atlantic City Line use to have them too.
A lot busier than Woodbourne eh?
Nice work here - very enjoyable video. Thanks for sharing!

Why were MTA locos pulling NJ transit cars.

It’s sad to see them go. Also they retired the F40PHs in the MTA Paint scheme, and the GP40FHs, the only good diesel left is the GP40PH-2/2Bs
NJ Transit sadly sold their Genesis engines. They will see a new life on the Shore Line East and Hartford Line.
Was that Amtrak Genesis Unit a P40 or a p42?
Thank you for watching and for your comments my friend! The genesis was a P40BH (classified by NJT that way) and was previously an Amtrak P40DC!
