matt becoming basically lobotomized(turned robotic and disjointed) was a major turn with his mental state/old self mangled and basically hung. but it makes me curious about what his whole giant worm big brain form means . The other characters seem obvious but his is pretty unique . I love this game .
I think the worm form is the aberration's exaggeration of Matt's loss of humanity. All of the other bosses retain at least some semblance of their previous human form except Matt who was already augmented when the aberration / Picayune subsumed him. Matt being only a brain and eyes is supposed to show that he was, whether it was vocalized or not, partially detached from his humanity and that is what was preyed on when he was changed. Every character post aberration has one of their traits magnified that ultimately overtakes them; Izu with the rabbit theme, Harley with the bike and Alexis with the persecution complex / cynicism. Matt's characteristic that is amplified is his augmentations and that manifests as the near entirely mechanical body. Also, almost all of Matt's dialogue boils down to him trying to convince Cyl to embrace cyborgification or give up a limb. Ultimately, the Matt that remained after being perverted by the aberration is only interested in relieving himself and others of their mortal bodies. The only organs he retains are his eyes and brain, one to scout resources to improve and edit himself while the other is kept to figure out what else can be replaced.
Alexis' memory makes me so sad. ([20:55] Especially this moment.) She was right. She summed up the horrifying story of all the characters in the game so well. They suffered to save others, and for that they were rewarded with turning into horrifying monsters. The confession scene really hits me hard every time I watch this. During this horrible time, Alexis desperately tried to find at least some motivation other than the need to not abandon her friends on the mission, and she was rejected. The only source of happiness in such a hard time stripped away from her.
@@unlimitedgolden I got the true ending and the main cast actually does get saved, I won't say much about it due to spoilers though, but I will say that everyone ends up being happy with the results and the earth does get saved
The one thing I still have trouble understanding is what the Aberration even is? Is it an influence or a thing? Plus since you're playing ad Picayune's body, it's still confusing as to why it reanimated, and Cyl's intentions especially with the ending
I feel as if it's the suit piloting the whole thing - we're some sort of automaton, with a brain hard-wired to finish our task - defeat the Abberation, which seems to be highly radioactive and transformative for those too close. As for why it reanimated, the game says that the "Mission is not complete" each time you fail, forcing a hard restart (?) I'm not sure about the ending still.
The aberration honestly still confuses me, but we know its some kind of reality altering space.. thing. What I think happened with Cyl and Picayune though is you had the body which wanted to save earth, was told by the government to save earth and will listen to it versus the mind of Picayune where in her final moments she hated the earth, the government and all the suffering she and her friends had to endure for it all to be for nothing. Though this isn't the true ending, so who knows what more lore we will get once I find out how to get it LOL
Aberration is basically like matter that can twist, or create new life, objects etc. And from what I understood from the game, it leeches off of other life forms. I did a deep dive into the game, and my only thought process is that because Picayune was the only one wearing a full suit (with the helmet on, unlike others) the suit successfully did its role of somewhat protecting her. Though it was flawed, and pulled Picayune's mind out of the body that was rebuilt by the suit, creating Cyl. So to sum it up, aberration is a thing that can influence, the body reanimated because the suit's purpose is to keep it alive, and Cyl as basically a new organism followed what the suit told her to do, which was kill monsters. Probably because the suit may have influenced her thought process, because Picayune's mind was stripped from the body, leaving its thoughts empty, and something had to take over.
It seems like instead of possessing Picayune's body, the Aberration inhabited her very soul. Leaving behind what is basically a meat automaton being constantly reanimated by some permanent failsafe.
I do believe so ! I'm not sure if the creator has confirmed anything, but there's always the fans headcanons about the characters identities. But as far as I'm aware, canonically, Matt is the only bloke in the team

The aberration after killing the crew: "party time!"

Glad that I saw the last memory blind, the twist was shocking.
Ah, so the bosses are the major characters in the memories, but they were transformed.
Pretty much!! It's a horrible fate really. Hopefully the true ending might save them or somethin

and on top of that, it could have taken over cyl's brain? I don't exactly know - the true ending has some differences that kinda go against this
