"Evolution is just a theory"

Many people wrongly think that the term "theory" refers to the degree of evidence for a scientific explanation. They canter-pose this to the notion of a scientific law. They think that theory graduates to become a law as the evidence for the theory develops. But in fact this notion is totally incorrect. A law is a definite relationship amongst a few variables. Whereas a theory is a broad complex explanation explaining, involving, and or predicting many laws.
