Late 90's west coast Gangsta Rap and old school east coast pre 1986 hip-hop. I grew up with it and also classic folk rock. I also enjoy This American Life Podcast.
wow that escalade was killed in action.....and the hamburger reference was spot on....love to listen to old school 80/90 and country music in the shop.
Usually a mix of Sinatra and NWA radio on Pandora in my shop. Some call my taste in music eclectic haha. Really dig your stuff man please keep it coming. I'm having so much FUN!
I made a clipboard about 10 years ago from Walnut and Maple that I gave to a family member as a gift. Mine was mostly Walnut with two, thin Maple stripes offset to one side. It was well received and made a great gift. I got my hardware from a woodworking supply place in Canada that sells tools and hardware. This is a good project that does not take long to make. Give it a try.
David, I know I probably say this on every one of your recent videos, but I'm really digging this more relaxed style. Pulling Eric into the conversation from behind the camera is totally fine and adds a nice touch as well as the goofy stuff. Great job, both of you!
depends on the day, Pitbull Pandora radio, 90s dance music (JOCK JAMS BABY!!), and old school hip hop. One of my most productive days was the original Jurassic Park soundtrack.
I recently found the Making It podcast and have been checking out everybody's channel. Gotta say man, I like yours the best. Plus I'm from Pittsburgh, mad respect in the rust belt!
When I'm in the shop, and running machines with my ear protection on, I listen to classic 80s music. It' usually happy and upbeat. I am amazed at what I can get done with good music in my ears.
Love the video, really enjoying the direction these are going. To your talk about form or function, I'm reminded of a great quote: "Everything we do in styling is based on the notion that form follows function, but both report to emotion." -Willie G. Davidson.
When I'm in the shop I listen to radio station 94.5 in Australian which has a huge mix of music from the 70's 80's and 90's all good music and easy to listen to
Great project! Thanks for the shoutout to the wood store. I'm in Cleveland through the weekend, and I'll pass through Toledo on my way back to Oshkosh. For sure going to check it out.
I know this is an older video, but I will answer your music question anyway. I like to listen to Christian radio when I work. I started my first woodwork projects with my grandfather years ago. It's what he always had playing in his shop, so now, it's what I always have playing too. It completes the experience for me.
Seriously cool idea, David! The school I teach at does a craft show every year, and I am taking in all the great product ideas you're churning out. I know you advise against school shows, but I work there, and I love to support the kids.
Beautiful work and I'm lovin' the old school. I have a 90's hiphop playlist I blast when I'm in the zone. Between tasks, I end up distracted and dancing around if I catch a good song once the tools are turned off.
You asked what I listen to in my shop and I normally listen to an audio book while working. I have a hearing protector with AM/FM/Bluetooth and syncs with my phone. I down load free books from the library. I like the dust bag for your planer except I'd put a longer hose on it to get it out of the way. I need a bigger band saw so I can resaw a board more than 4" wide. I also want a belt sander. Christmas is almost here and maybe I'll be good to myself this year.
Great video. When it comes to music in the shop it all depends on my mood and current task. Ranges from classical all the way to Motown to old skool rap and blues to metal lml. Gotta kick out the jams!
Make Something you got it! I’m literally listening in my shop right now. Episode 58, second time listening to this episode. What the 3 of you talked about in this episode has changed my mindset about all this. Thanks David, you have opened my eyes a bit wider. Please pass the thanks to Bob and Jimmy too. Now quit goofing off and get back to work.
First off David love the new "having fun" look of your videos. I cracked up when you sprayed the dog poo. Keep up the awesome work. The music I listen to in the shop is a weird mix of classic rock, 90's rap-rock and techno.
Love your projects and channel. I teach high school woodshop and use your project ideas all the time, hope it's ok. We mill our own lumber out of salvaged logs, make projects, and starting to try and sell them. You always have great insights into merchandising your wood projects, thank you!
I like to listen to mostly 80's rock. That genre gets me jacked up when needed. I will also listen to Christian music to keep me mellow. Great little project with some class. Thanks for sharing.
That was a good one! I'm going to go out to my shop next make one of those.....as soon as I finish the project I'm working on.....and get a clip from Amazon....anyway David, thanks for the cool video. They're always so much fun.
I listen to rock and metal pretty much wall the time. Then around the holidays, spooking music and Christmas music These look great. I have been looking for simple projects that can be done with basic hand tools and limited power tools like a drill and circular saw
I LOVE the videos as always! And to answer your question, oddly enough, I always end up listening to podcasts or old Christopher Hitchen's debates. "By your mom" was just epic LOL
I have a question for the next video/podcast! : How did you develop your style? I notice and love you're tying in a lot more humor into the videos, and it sets you apart.
+Make Something This video is one of the best so far! Love it! And I listen to whatever playlist I randomly pick on Spotify usually... mostly punk and alternative! And I need to work on your Have Fun stencil painting!
I use scrap timber and plywood ( for strength) from the offcut bins at Henley Nenzshed here in Masterton NZ.. to make model trucks, jeeps etc to give to Playcentres, Kindergartens etc.
Nice video. I listen to google music in my shop. Usually I start with Devo - Uncontrollable Urge radio or Led Zeppelin - Were Gonna Groove radio. These stations are great when you need to hand sand a knife blade.
Group this with some pens, some of those pencil holders, maybe even a bandsaw box for stuff like paperclips/rubber bands. You could have a nice little set of office supplies. Do a big bundle sale.
That 20" box fan with matching filter is about the best air cleaner for the money. Nice to see someone else use it too. Any ideas on a storage clip board? Maybe some copper?
OMG, hilarious video. Love it. Great short project--I dig the thought that quick doesn't mean less worthy. And as for music? I'm feelin' your old school rap as well... Third Base, but not a base for slidin'.
I really like these. You have a very good eye for design. Being basically thin panels, have you found that these hold their shape and stability? Maybe you make a spring loaded wooden clip on your next one. Great job.
You should do I shop tutorial video! Like what tools people should have; what to look for in the tools; recommendations and all that jazz!!!
I love putting the oil on and seeing the wood pop!
I might try this project with my high school students this year! Thanks for the motivation.
looks great! I mostly listen to metal, but i'll play country or what ever the mood is that day.
Late 90's west coast Gangsta Rap and old school east coast pre 1986 hip-hop. I grew up with it and also classic folk rock. I also enjoy This American Life Podcast.
Classic Rock, Metal and Hard Rock
Shop music: something ambient. Trip hop is a favorite.

Jazz, man. I listen old jazz, big band and delta blues. Nice work, all you do. Thanks!
I'm loving how you're showing picking out the materials, and making it seem like it really can be an adventure, even for a pro!
Thank you!
Willy Nelson, Beastie Boys, Kinks, Beach Boys & Story Of The Year = my shop tunes 😎
Total heavy metal in my shop!!!

Pink Floyd is the music of choice in my shop.
dam straight old skool hip-hop all the way
Man, you don't know how lucky you are to have such a nice hardwoods store so close to you
Those clipboards are sweet David! That store looks like the best place in town. I listen to Blackberry Smoke in the shop.
I listen to late '90s punkrock in the shop... with your mom :-)
Simple project, good technique, nice wood shopping. Loved it !
Yeah Dave you had me at spraying the dog turd. You're quite the character I enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for taking the time to make them.
I recently found the Making It podcast and have been checking out everybody's channel. Gotta say man, I like yours the best. Plus I'm from Pittsburgh, mad respect in the rust belt!

The hamburger line was epic! 😂😂😂
Hi from Spain!
Ya era hora de encontrar alguien con humor en este mundillo de woodworkers
I listen to podcasts while I'm in the shop. That includes the wonderful Making It podcast! Also a fair amount of Game Grumps.
Thanks for the video! I use a crap clipboard everyday and this has been on my todo list for awhile. Now I have some guidance!
Great project! Thanks for the shoutout to the wood store. I'm in Cleveland through the weekend, and I'll pass through Toledo on my way back to Oshkosh. For sure going to check it out.

Very cool. We used to make those in shop class. I listen to country... only station my old school radio will pick up in the basement shop.
holy crap an autographed photo of Norm Abrham! that guy is amazing! i loved watching his show as a kid
Delicious, delicious clipboards. Way too nice for actual pencil pushers.
I love watching your stuff. It all seems like things I could make with a bit of practice
Seriously cool idea, David! The school I teach at does a craft show every year, and I am taking in all the great product ideas you're churning out. I know you advise against school shows, but I work there, and I love to support the kids.
David, better every week, this is just so fun
loved the jump cuts. As far as what I listen to in the shop.. Making It should double its output!
Beautiful work and I'm lovin' the old school. I have a 90's hiphop playlist I blast when I'm in the zone. Between tasks, I end up distracted and dancing around if I catch a good song once the tools are turned off.
I want to make some Xmas presents for my colleagues. These are on the list. Thanks mate.
You have so many good ideas for gifts. Love it. To answer your question, I listen to old country - Willie's Roadhouse on SXM. Love that stuff.
You asked what I listen to in my shop and I normally listen to an audio book while working. I have a hearing protector with AM/FM/Bluetooth and syncs with my phone. For shop music I use my Bluetooth ear muffs with Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction on loop.
That's in my top 5 of all time!
