That colour green is beautiful. I like AU Fairlanes. They are a real mans car. I have a Burgundy 2000 model V8 with a black interior. Nicest car I've ever owned. They will never make cars like this again, so I'm looking to buy another or a LTD and stash them in the shed so I never run out of the best Ford Australia has ever made.

Always liked the Fairlane. The combination of luxury and power has always reminded me of big American Fords. When I was a younger man in the early 90's I fell in love with the ZC/ZD, which were dirt cheap at the time! If only I'd bought one when I had the chance.

What a lovely car Mark. Over the years so many Fairlanes have disappeared because people took out the interior to fit into Falcons. One bloke said that although the driving position in the Fairlane was good the rear seat occupants had much more luxury and space with real comfortable armchair type seating where you just sank into the seat. So many cars today could certainly learn from Fairlane and LTD seating for these days we seem to sit on seats we don't sink into them. For me though I doubt if I'd see much of the passing scenery for once comfortable in the rear with the silky smooth ride I'd probably just nod off.

Great vids and info, I like watching stuff on these Australian cars as they are very unique and generally not seen or found in most other parts of the World, I do not remember seeing too many of these in Oz when I visited in 2011. Just a thought, I think an Ozzy Ford Barra or any Falcon 6 in an early 80's European Ford Capri would be a fun conversion, although the Capri was tail happy with 4 cylinder pinto it would be worse with a heavier straight 6 up front, but still likely lots of fun. Best car I ever owned was an 2002 AU ll Fairlane interceptor version. My exwife made me sell it and get a 2010 Ford Territory, then pissed off and took the Territory with her. On the upside, no more nagging wife and I went out and got myself a 1999 AU l Fairlane Police interceptor version within 4 days, could have got a Fairlane the next day, but it had to be the Police interceptor version.
Quick wat to tell you have one. Look on the rear 1/4 windows and it will say "Police Intercettor" in the window tint and no sun roof.
Sad to say that was hit by a silly bitch in a Honda, Honda lost, but the Fairlane was 15 years old and the NRMA paid out on it, I did buy the car back and picked up an 1998 AU XR6 falcon that was stuffed, took it down to the shell and fitter all the Fairlane parts I could, Did keep the Falcon's manual gearbox, Had to get a new roof trim and boot lid .............. soooo much rust in that boot lid. 1988-1994 Lincoln Continental! Thank you Mark for this video. I enjoyed watching the video. This car looks extremely close to the Lincoln I mentioned. This car is rear drive and offers a V8. Ours was front wheel drive and used a V6 rated at 140 horsepower. This was so grand to see in action. The Australian Ford has a better interior to our Lincoln too. The Lincoln did not get bucket seats and floor shifter until 1993 I think. I can only image how the LTD version looked on the inside. Holden was competing against this with the Caprice and Statesman. I said it before Ford Australia really took time and put effort into their models and interiors and quality. This car should have been sold in the United States as a Crown Victoria replacement or Mercury Grand Marquis or as a Lincoln with many modifications. Just wow. Thank you Mark.

AU Fairlane, sharing the same model designation as a Falcon and later the same tail lights and head lights. Nice car but the distinction between it and the Falcon had become very blurred. Ford realised that the ZF Fairlane looked too much like the XA Falcon and it's exclusivity was lost. The ZH Fairlane fixed that. Remember the Holden Brougham being a Premier with a long boot? Speaking of Broughams I went to my model shop this morning in search of a 1:18 P76, out of stock so I bought a Brougham. Hey Mark are you going to do any more videos on diecast models?

Hi seems like you guys may have made a couple mistakes. There's no v6 in falcon and or au range.
The v8 Ltd or even fairlane talking au only has the xr8 engine from ab au s1 as its just a ford engine. S2 s3 xr8s has tickford 8s which were a fair bit better than the standard au v8.

Sorry for sounding like Captain Critical again.........but this was the most ordinary Fairlane in history. Mag wheels, nice colour, fancy name........just lipstick on a pig.
In my view, the NC was the last decent looking Fairlane/LTD. After that......the visual decline. I think the buyers agreed as well.
By all all means, probably still a fantastic long haul cruiser and reliable, but certainly no looker.

I think it was the later NF and NL's that used Fairmont headlights. Their taillights also looked Fairmont like, and a little cheap. Prior to those, the Fairlane was far more exclusive, with detailing unique to just those models.

I think i prefer the AU fairlanes to the later ones , i cant speak for the NC , it is one model i have no Experience with , but my real favorites where the ZA,B,C,D models , i remember ( vaguely ) going to Dayelsford speedway from melbourne in the 70`s to watch the stock cars with my old man in his bosses ZD 351 , lovely big cruiser , i cant remember if the ZD`s still had the hydraulic ram power steering( i think they did ) , i know the earlier ones did , they had a different feel to them , really easy , and more old school turns from lock to lock , but they just floated over bad road , the very early jags had a similar super easy feel to them .
Modern ones are good too , but the oldies had a feel all their own .
What is really sad to me is that most of the younger folk will have never experienced how good those older cars where , they hop into a modern car ...... " Oh goodie it has apple car play " 🙄 , and while the newys may have a greater turn of speed , but they are still characterless , soulless seriously boring whitegoods .
