Fun fact: I've lived in Tromsø for 32 years (my entire life) yet I've read like two of those signs lol. Thank you for the beautiful videos you make, us Norwegians love it when we get americans perspective on our country and towns. Thanks a lot!
1:20 It says that the church was built in 1861, the organ (big piano) was installed in 1863 and it was used to house people that had to evacuate their homes during WWII in 1944.
At the end of WW2 the german used the Scorched Earth strategy in the north, so they burned down alot of Finnmark and forced evacuation of the local population, Tromsø was a transportation hub for the evacuees ... before they where sent to other parts of Norway. there where like atleast 30-40 000 people, and while still thousands escaped the german forces and choosed to stay behind ... they had to survive a hard northern winter where they did not really have any housings and low on food as the retreating forces also killed off farm-animals and even pets.
We were in Tromsø in august 2017 and it was sunny and 25-27C degrees for the whole trip in Norway, while back home in southern Finland it was miserably rainy and windy. When we crossed the border back to Finland in Kilpisjärvi, it was raining cats and dogs. After that I´ve visited Troms and Finnmark or Lofoten every year, even when the pandemic was active. Us Finns were welcomed since we´re good neighbors.
That is awesome it was perfect weather while you guys were there🌞 it sounds amazing! We need to get to Lofoten at some point, maybe when we are back in Finland during the summer! Thanks for your comment :)
Such a unique experience and well-made video. I was travelling to Christmasy Copenhagen a few weeks after you've been there and been following you since watching your videos from this beautiful city, and now I want to follow your steps once again to see the northern lights at Tromso... Thank you for your magical videos and keep on travelling 🥰
Isn't Copenhagen at Christmas so beautiful?? We are so glad you were able to find our channel!! Thank you so much for watching our videos♥️ it means so much to us.
I clicked on you guys' video which randomly was recommended to me but was perfect because my boyfriend and I were planning on going to Norway sometime soon and I absolutely loved it! You guys have such a wholesome and calm and yet exciting way of presenting and exloring. I was just telling my boyfriend how surprised I was because I thought you guys easily must have 100,000 subscribers with how quality your content is :) keep up the amazing work!! I like how you kept this video brief too, I think between 10 and 20 minutes is a great sweet spot to hook in viewers!
Wow your comment MADE OUR DAY!! We are so glad you found our videos and we have lots more Norway videos coming over the next few weeks :) Thank you so much for all your kind words!!
2:11 "that is a statue of a Norwegian explorer" ... Funny coincidence that I'm watching this video a couple hours after leaving the Fram museum (dedicated to the Fram ship, used in expeditions to both the Arctic and Antarctic regions, with Roald Amundsen being one of the captains
It was more convenient from where we were coming in Finland, there was no direct flights from Levi to Tromso so it would have been a long 10 hour travel day! Have a great trip :)
Just wondering what month this is. I know you posted the video in Jan but we are visiting in December so just wanted to get an idea of what the weather might be like :)
Yay we are so glad you are enjoying our videos!! I can’t remember the name of the restaurant but it is right next to the “universes tiniest bar” which is super famous in tromso so it should be easy to find from there :)
Yes in September it should be good. We have never been in September but it would probably be better for a 2 year old since it would be less cold than the winter months! :)
It have become insanely expensive to get a room at a hotel in Tromsø last couple of months, aparently there is so much tourism now that it pushes the prises up .. especially the Aurora tourism. Did a search just now and like Radisson Blue that is like smack at the centrum and you have to pay like almost 7000 nok for a night !!! crazy. Good thing I got relatives there I can mooch of if nessesary 😛
The rooms are very very expensive there! Along with everything else hahaha but it is worth it! That’s awesome you have people you can stay with there 🎉
It would snow then quickly turn into watery slush haha! We thought there would be a lot more since it is so far north! But it is still so beautiful :) thanks so much for watching!
Hi, This is an exciting video. Is it difficult for international students to find part-time jobs in Tromso? Could you please do a session on how to catch a job in Tromso? Thank you.
Isn't that a stunning country?! I'm totally crazy about Norway. I have driven around the country quite much with my RV and I never get enough of it. That camera feature of Google translate is cool. I have used it abroad too. In Norway I usually understand signs etc. because I can understand Swedish (that's mandatory to study at school in Finland) and Norwegian is so close relative to Swedish that texts are mostly understandable. Understanding their speech is usually impossible, though.
It is completely gorgeous!! We love it so much! That is amazing you got to RV around the country. That is super nice you can read Swedish, that must come in handy a lot! Thanks for your comment :)
Jari we were missing your comments!! SO happy to see that you are back! We are loving Norway😍 next we will be in Thailand so we are totally switching it up!
I have been wondering about one thing about you Americans who are fascinated by Norway. Why? You have midnight sun in Alaska. You have polar lights in Alaska. Yes, the Vikings didn't live there, but the nature is just as fascinating in Alaska. Okay, Norway is a different culture, so that might be a point. Is it because you have ancestors from Norway?
@@JacobandJennyTravel You have articulated a truth that transcends your consciousness. The existence of this pub can be attributed solely to an antiquated law that allows the sale of alcohol for establishments of a certain diminutive scale, exempting it from strict regulatory oversight. It stands as a unique entity, as modern businesses are subject to the constraints of up-to-date legislation. The inherent lameness lies in the assumption that individuals lack the courage to decline when approached and addressed by a bartender. It's just sad Norway is unable to get a mature relationship with alcohol. Then this nonsense wouldn't be necessary. Pretty embarrassing to put it mildly.
@@JacobandJennyTravel What he says is completely wrong. Tromsø is an arctic city. In fact, the city is far north of the Arctic Circle. Tromsø is 350 kilometers (217 mi) north of the Arctic Circle. Even though Tromsø lies at a very high latitude, Tromsø is considerably warmer than other places at the same latitude. This is due to the presence of the Gulf Stream. And usually there is snow in Tromsø in December, but there are exceptions.
@@steinarhaugen7617 Also .. I can confirm that Tromsø often have more snow than even here ... and I live almost as north as you can come on the mainland Norway... But this last winter have been very very late .. we have far less snow than usually.

Hi what month was this, we hope to go this winter
This was the first week of December :)
Just found the video as I’m planning a trip to Tromso and I am quite surprise there seems to be little to no snow or ice?
Hi guys loving the video. Can you tell me where the pizza buffet was please or it’s name 😍

If you go to Tromso you need to go the Yonas. They have a buffet and this pizza is the one we from Tromso eat. The Best :)
Which month was this , can I see the lights here in September?
And is it suggested for a 2 year old kid ?

I'm surprised that in you didn't learn about Ronald Amundsen and exploration at the North Pole.
Oh man, we will have to do some research on him now! Thanks for watching :)
One day we hope to see da da da da at the Artic Cathedral! Universe's smallest bar is quite a claim.
