Ive always been the motocross rider back in the day that just loves to have fun and go sky high on jumps. I’m in my 60’s and haven’t ridden a dirt bike since I left California in 96. Can’t wait to change out the gas put Castro oil in and smell that smell!!!! Hear that engine !!!! Then give it a bath and get it ready to ride.... and store it in the man cave to start just to listen too that sound. When I’m not going out to ride....ah the memories and the new ones to come.. Oh I still drive my three wheeler every day....but she’s a four stroke.. Thank you for the entertainment and View’s from the go pro...made me remember those days. your videos got me thinking I need a bike again...Now I have one again
Zachary Chambers they are more fun to ride and I ride 2 strokes over 4 but 4 strokes sound so nice I don’t like the whinny sound I like that deep sound but I like the power band
I prefer 4 strokes personally, I love the big, booming sound of 4 strokes (particularly 400's and above) and just the engine and its characteristics in general. But for me there is something about that noise at 7:02 and on that i just absolutely love.
@@elliehall6419 Hey Eddie, it depends a lot on what you plan on doing. If you want to go straight into racing, I'd say start off with a 250, very good bike to learn on, and once you do, the 250 4 stroke is a great bike to race on and send you up the motocross ranks. If you're just looking to have some fun, maybe hit the track once a week and some trails here and there, the 125 2 stroke is definitely the more fun option to go with. If you want an honest opinion, I would go with a 125 2 stroke, it will demand you to really get good at shifting and handling that power, making the transition to a 4 stroke so much easier if you eventually plan on doing so. I personally ride a 2019 Husqy 125 and race it!
Engine braking a 2-stroke isnt going to hurt anything if your jetting is right. Been riding (and engine braking) 2-strokes for over 30 years and have never had a failure.
On the 2 stroke. In those corners, try downshifting right before you lean in and repeatedly feathering the throttle throughout the turn. As you're coming out of the turn, raise up to half throttle.
I like your videos Mr. Davis. Looks like you are just having fun. 2 or 4 stroke? ... what ever makes you happy. Just have both :) nothing wrong with either one. There's trade offs on both but all are a blast. I'm a 2 stroke guy, but ... I just love dirt bikes and would like to have a 4 stroke. I have 4 500s a 125 and a 85. the 85 was for my nephews but they never got into it. Weird right? What kid wouldn't want to jump on a dirt bike? LOL ... anyways my baby sister (their mom) rides it! haha I have a huge blast riding the big ones but they get serious real quick, just in love with their raw power ... the 125, I can ride and not sweat it and have a total ball! I ride my buddy's 4 stroke 250 and enjoy the time with it as well.
Great riding bro.I have been riding 2 and 4 stroke bikes since the 80s.That 4 stroke went the distance endurance wise and it caught that 125.For big tracks like that I definitely want to be on that 250.For a short rigid tough track I would definitely go with the YZ125.
Master Of Disguise no no no for both for 2 strokes maybe even a 4 stroke for track 2 strokes on track is amazing because their power just shoots them out of corners and they are so light weight but with 4 bangers on a track since they’re fat they get good traction cuz they sink more into the mud and it allows them to dominate the corners but for trail riding two strokes obliterate 4 strokes because 4 strokes are heavy, they stall more, and two strokes are way faster to open up on straight aways, 2 bangers for both track and trail
This is how I see it 2 strokes are more fun to ride but 4 strokes are easier to ride and usually faster especially on a hard packed track. So really comes down to if you wanna have more fun or be faster and of course money. But of course if money is not an issue you gotta have both I would say a 150 2 stroke and a 450 4 stroke.
Fuck four stroke MX bikes...the ONLY reason they are even competitive is the ridiculous UNFAIR size advantage handicap that they got in 1928. The REAL test should be KX250 vs KX250F...and then its clear as day. Riding MX is supposed to be challenging and insane on a light raped ape that just goes like fuck.
I want this to come off less like a lecture and more like friendly advice. On the exit of the corners you need to lean in a tad more so you can really pivot around the apex of the corner. I notice when I ride if I keep my head over the bars, my elbows out, and my legs pinching the seat I'll go alot quicker than usual. Loved the video and I'll always ride my yz125 because of the simplicity and lightness. Thanks again.
I really enjoy riding my 250sx-f but I have so much fun whenever I get to have a go on my mates 125/ 250 two stroke. The arguing about which is better should just be friendly banter and we should all just enjoy being able to ride these wonderful machines.
Love the videos and especially the commentary. Sun in the background gives a great view of your position on the bike while jumping. Very cool. 125 2s is the way to go. Just picked up a 2006 YZ125 and love it. I’m 6’ tall 190lbs and it’s ideal. I always felt the 250 had too much power but that’s just me
This is the first video of yours I have watched. I was thinking the whole time this track looks familiar. Then I see the description. Murphys is one of my favorite places to ride!
I’m torn between two and four. I grew up on two stroke and equate the power like a light switch; on or off. Haven’t real had any experience with a four stroke but think I could do so much more with the torque and wider power band. I’m and old fart now and won’t be racing anybody or free styling, my riding will probably be fast trails and fire roads. Any body care to chime in ??
Just the fact that 250 two strokes race with the 450 four strokes tells you that two strokes are faster. Why else would they race them that way instead of both in the same CC class?
actually 2 x power is not true the bigger the engine gets the more it equals out race a 500 two stroke vs a 450 four stroke and all the sudden its backwards the smaller four stroke engine is faster than the bigger two stroke and power is about equal
because you have no brain. The 2 strokes give power every time the piston travels up. The 4 strokes give power every 2 crankshaft rotations. You say that "Just the fact that 250 two strokes race with the 450 four strokes tells you that two strokes are faster." Of course they do because because the 2 strokes give power every time the piston travels up so 4 strokes have more CC in order to produce that power.
I love the 250F but miss the nostalgia of the two stroke. And it's the shaken, teary eye'd, can't stop smiling for 20 mins kind of nostalgia I'm talking about.
Jason Wulff The question is why are you always needing to rebuild your bikes LOL what do you do to them I’ve had the same four stroke for five years and never had to rebuild it what is with people and saying this like it actually is a problem? Shut up already we get it the whole comment section is 2 stroke nut hugging fanboys
That's easy , if you don't like the taste of dirt ,YOU RIDE A TWO-STROKE !! If you wanna WIN , you ride a TWO-STROKE !! 7:55 , the brakes aren't as good ...and ? Who needs brakes in a race !
2 stroke for life!!! Haha naw.. I go to glamis alot and 4 strokes are just more reliable in the dunes... I love 2 stroke though!! Just gonna use my 2 stoke for the track and ocotilla.
This is my opinion so don't let it hurt your feelings. This vid is the perfect example of why I pick 2 strokes over 4 every time. 4 strokes are boring to ride, stick it in 3rd gear and you can ride it like a automatic all day around a track. I can count on my hand how many times he changed down to 2nd. You need zero clutch control on the 4 stroke. Also you tend to rely on engine braking to often. I very rarely use the brakes on a 4, I mostly use them in the air to level the bike out. The vid says it all really. The 4 stroke looks effortless to ride. The 2 stroke looks challenging, it also looks quite a lot quicker.
Do you ever get that 250 4 stroke past 4,000 RPM? I make my 4 stroke sound like it's about to have a stroke.... . You were definitely faster in that 2 stroke...
Yes but I am not a serious rider I only really go on small trails around my farm so I Would rather a bike that is more easy to ride I also like the convenience of being able to put any old gas in and not have to mix
That track looks fun dude... not too crazy but just enough if you want some good air. I grew up riding and this makes me want to get back into so bad. Great video man!
I like riding 2 strokes now and again but I couldn’t stand riding it daily, too much fucking around with the clutch and gearbox but on the 4 strokes there’s no need for that, you just pull back the throttle and the power is right there
I had a 98 cr125r and my nephew had a 06 kxf250 I ain't a fan of 4bangers but getting a few laps on the 4 banger actually made me fall in love with them such a comfy and easy to handle bike unlike a top of the range race Honda 2 screamer the crr was faster with all the after makets I had put on it but was a scary ride never knew how light a bike could be with so much power lol
i think your the only motocross rider in history that uses their clutch to shift gears! You have a fully synchro-meshed gearbox! You are just losing power when you clutch...
synchro-mesh gearboxes were DESIGNED to enable you to clutchless shift! I have a 17 year old Honda CR, still on same gearbox, and ive never used the clutch to shift in its entire life!
why RIP clutch plates? clutches are wear and tear.. if your not usng the clutch to shift gears, then the clutch plates arent having to seperate and make contact again thousands of times.. So technically, its making the clutch plates last longer??? Also, clutch thrust bearings arent put under pressure from clutch pulls, and nor are the clutch pressure plate springs.... So actually, Clutchless shifting, Gives longer life to all parts in the clutch basket... Anyway.. i ride a 2 stroke, Where clutch slips are required, so Who actually really cares about clutch plate life? When they are cheap enough, and extremely easy to replace... (btw, my clutches last 2-3 years which is about average with the amount of hours i put on my bike, and thats clutchless shifting)... Please be sure to learn exactly how the internals of clutches work, before commenting, because clearly you know jack shit about them, if you think clutchless shifting wears them out quicker... "clutch-less" means No clutch... there for, your not using it, to wear it out.... but thanks for the LOL..
I'm an old head and havent ridden in years. I dont know ehat the new 4 strokes feel like. I had an RM 125 and Ive ridden a CR 125 and a YZ 250. I loved the snappyness of the 2 strokes and just cant see how a thumper could compare with that. I suppose they both cater to a different riding style and a lighter bike would be better for a tighter track. I just love a powerband too. And the 2 stroke just sings.
@@fluffly_3183, but I bet you didn't know that nitro is more akin to diesel, yeah 2 stroke diesels, Detroit makes some bad ass 2 strokes, you shoul check them out.
@@devinmadrid3158, Well, no... Scale Nitrometh engines do not have valves, it relies on port timing in relation to the piston, and they also don't have oil in the crankcase, but the mixture of fuel (not pure nitro) it uses, does contain oils, so by all the above mentioned factors, it is not a 4 stroke. Neither is it a rotary, and talking about internal combustion engines, leaves but one, 2t. sinXO 2 strokes are cheaper and less complicated to rebuild, and they are harder to ride than 4 strokes, which will make you a better rider because you have to rev them harder and use clutch out of turns more.
Well,I am not planning to race motocross, just rip some laps and some soft trails on weekends. I am not sure about that "10x" its a bit too much,as I know a 4t needs a rebuild around 100rh,if I'm correct.

that's very well put> 2 strokes are just so much more more of a thrill to ride and to me they really represent what dirt bike riding is all about; the scream of the power band and the sweet smell of that 2 smoker engine. When i hear boring sound of a 4 stroke engine i think of grey hairs and rocking chairs, a great machine for grampa
@ John D. Leo , come on now. Don't limit grandpa to a 4 stroke. Ya gona give him a stroke. He may be old and grey. But he's not that slow. Grandpa wants to have fun too. Lol
125 2 STROKE USED TO BE A MONSTER BACK WHEN THERE WAS GREAT RIDERS. MANY CANT RIDE TODAY.
Watching ppl ride 4 strokes puts me to sleep. Once you jumped on the 125 I woke right up!

Ive always been the motocross rider back in the day that just loves to have fun and go sky high on jumps. Ive ridin just abourt every dirtbike out there, and a YZ125 has always by far been my favorite all around dirt bike. 125 cc's doesnt sound like much, but I promise it's really all you need, even when you feel like going crazy on the track. Once you feel that powerband kick in and you feel kinda like you're floating, its Game over lol! Yamaha YZ125 best of the best in my 26 years of riding dirt bikes
What years best
The correct answer is to have both.
Yh but some people can't afford two fucking bikes
4 strokes are for the streets.
Ashton Needler no just no
man just buy twostroke
There is definitely no reason to have both 🤣 go with the 2 stroke
It’s not the bike it’s the rider
Joshua Barrientos I agree
Joshua Barrientos always true
Not true at all
Priestar Tor how is it not true, you could be on a 2017 kx450f and Eli tomac on a 2001 kx250f and he would win every time
kawasaki team green Put him on a ktm 50cc and see who wins😂😂
There are three things I like about 2 strokes more than 4 strokes:
1. Sound
2. Noise
3. Exhaust
sounds like a weed eater😂😂
Thank you for the video, I really have enjoyed you channel.......my friend just called said he found a 2013 125 Yamaha wanted to know if I was interested.....told him yes please....typed in the bike saw your video (have been subscribed) now I can’t wait until tomorrow morning to go get it....
Anyone that can commentate while riding, is a slow goon
Jesse Elam if yoy hop on a 4 stroke and ride it like a 2 stroke as in the first gear and clutch you will forshure pop a wheelie and fly off

With 2 strokes you have to be in the power band a lot 4 strokes offer more consistency in the power
I love the torque of my 125 it’s fun and fast to mess around on and my klx250s is pretty fun to and 100% easier for trail riding but I love them both
2 strokes way better than 4 strokes no matter wa
Zachary Chambers they are more fun to ride and I ride 2 strokes over 4 but 4 strokes sound so nice I don’t like the whinny sound I like that deep sound but I like the power band
Not neceserally. Personal preference
Two Strokes are better for quick and short but if you're going to be in a long race with high speeds for a long time you want to 4-stroke
both are great
4 strokes are faster, 2 strokes are more fun
250 2stroke or 450 4srtoke?🤷♀️
darius bekker 2 stroke
2 stroke if you dont have money
Unknown1337 yeah and it has cheaper parts if u broke something
4 stroke
2 stroke if your going to race in that class
I prefer 4 strokes personally, I love the big, booming sound of 4 strokes (particularly 400's and above) and just the engine and its characteristics in general. But for me there is something about that noise at 7:02 and on that i just absolutely love.
2 strokes don’t have very much engine brake that’s probably why u thought braking was worse
Xnxxtipsy Camtoe they barely have any and your not supposed to engine brake a 2 stroke, good way to burn the piston up faster
Can't engine brake.. no gas no oil.
Im 15 and interested in starting motocross what bike would you think would be best
I’ve been riding since I was 5 and I can assure you that a 125 2 stroke is quicker than a 250 4 stroke.
Nash Marius trust me I get that.
Only if you make it.
AJ Green that’s not true you just accelerate faster
@@yamahaguy1732exactly.
Love the 4ts efficiency on longer rides, but nothing beats that 2 stroke powerband
Great riding bro.I have been riding 2 and 4 stroke bikes since the 80s.That 4 stroke went the distance endurance wise and it caught that 125.For big tracks like that I definitely want to be on that 250.For a short rigid tough track I would definitely go with the YZ125.
for tracks, 2 stroke.
for trails and any other riding 4 strokes
Master Of Disguise how bout dunes
Master Of Disguise no no no for both for 2 strokes maybe even a 4 stroke for track 2 strokes on track is amazing because their power just shoots them out of corners and they are so light weight but with 4 bangers on a track since they’re fat they get good traction cuz they sink more into the mud and it allows them to dominate the corners but for trail riding two strokes obliterate 4 strokes because 4 strokes are heavy, they stall more, and two strokes are way faster to open up on straight aways, 2 bangers for both track and trail
@@RockstarGroyper well ive driven a two stroke on the trails and the handling is very unpredictable. they do not obliterate 4 strokes.
Master Of Disguise then why do you only see 2 strokes in enduro?
@@RockstarGroyper only? then i think im imagining things....
2 strokes make great woods bikes. The setting is everything
If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball! 😂
Wait what was that from I forget
Edit: I'm stupid the movie is called dodgeball 😂
This is how I see it 2 strokes are more fun to ride but 4 strokes are easier to ride and usually faster especially on a hard packed track. So really comes down to if you wanna have more fun or be faster and of course money. But of course if money is not an issue you gotta have both I would say a 150 2 stroke and a 450 4 stroke.
The real bike starts at 6:20 so you dont have to listen to that lawn mower engine.
no thats when the chainsaw is started :D
TheSoloAsylum u mean the monster truck engine after that it's the whipper snipper engine
Medinas831 no 4 stroke dosent have more power.. 2 stroke has more power per cc. 4 strokes are just more efficient.
Yes now let's listen to a strimmer or a mosquito buzzing in your ear.
I like the YZ125, because I have one
I really enjoy riding my 250sx-f but I have so much fun whenever I get to have a go on my mates 125/ 250 two stroke. The arguing about which is better should just be friendly banter and we should all just enjoy being able to ride these wonderful machines.
Are you sitting down when you're hitting jumps?? Get out of that habit!
DennisK he needs to get out of the habit of sitting down in general
DennisK he wasn’t lol
DennisK seat bounce
He was standing up mid air
You can see his shadow standing up most of the time.
Love the videos and especially the commentary. Sun in the background gives a great view of your position on the bike while jumping. Very cool. 125 2s is the way to go. Just picked up a 2006 YZ125 and love it. I’m 6’ tall 190lbs and it’s ideal. I always felt the 250 had too much power but that’s just me
Smacky McLicious thanks man, 125s are a lot of fun because you can hold them wide open pretty much everywhere! Can't do that on a 250 or 450
I know they changed some stuff with the design but is the 2005 still good?
"It feels so much lighter" and sounds so much more angry 😀
This is the first video of yours I have watched. I was thinking the whole time this track looks familiar. Then I see the description. Murphys is one of my favorite places to ride!
You gained a new subscriber because I just bought a 2004 YZ125
DeAndre Clarke how much?
Yea how much
4 strokes for me because i like the sound and that i dont have to mix fuel for it. 2 strokes are good too but 4 stokes imo are my favorite
I love 500cc two stroke
Brandon Bullock that's a lot of power
Nothing beats the 500.
The 500kx is scary as shit. My cousin had one, and you can wheelie without even trying
Christopher Walker 2 strokes usually make 2x power per cc, which is why this video is 125 2stroke vs 250 4stroke. Most people understand that fact
Bryson Dean, 4 strokes are for pussies and slow trail riding. Most people understand that fact.
Good point
actually 2 x power is not true the bigger the engine gets the more it equals out race a 500 two stroke vs a 450 four stroke and all the sudden its backwards the smaller four stroke engine is faster than the bigger two stroke and power is about equal
because you have no brain.
2 Stroke all the way !!!

7:55 , the brakes aren't as good ...and ?

Right those 250 4 bangers need to be driven like you fucking stole them rev limit in between shifts and just floor it
+Jake Hynds ....
EXACTLY!!!
hokiepokie it’s probably because it is about to have a stroke😂 2 bangers all the way🤟
Whats better for trail riding in the woods
The only reason I would like a two stroke more is because price and weight
Yes but I am not a serious rider I only really go on small trails around my farm so I Would rather a bike that is more easy to ride I also like the convenience of being able to put any old gas in and not have to mix
I prefer the 250 is better. It's better on the jumps if you have high revs. But the 125 is pretty good on the strait away.
Do it again and ride the 250 like you did the 125.

What the hell? You a hell of a lot faster on the two!!
I like riding 2 strokes now and again but I couldn’t stand riding it daily, too much fucking around with the clutch and gearbox but on the 4 strokes there’s no need for that, you just pull back the throttle and the power is right there
Great video! I'm 5'10" and 205 lbs, do you think the 125 would be OK?
Mike M the engine could get you around but I would have the suspension set up for your weight.

Snitchy1989 not using ur clutch kills your bike
synchro-mesh gearboxes were DESIGNED to enable you to clutchless shift!
I have a 17 year old Honda CR, still on same gearbox, and ive never used the clutch to shift in its entire life!
Snitchy1989 rip ur clutch plates
why RIP clutch plates? clutches are wear and tear.. if your not usng the clutch to shift gears, then the clutch plates arent having to seperate and make contact again thousands of times..
"clutch-less" means No clutch... there for, your not using it, to wear it out.... but thanks for the LOL..
totaly agree with you snitchy1989
I'm an old head and havent ridden in years. I dont know ehat the new 4 strokes feel like. I had an RM 125 and Ive ridden a CR 125 and a YZ 250. I loved the snappyness of the 2 strokes and just cant see how a thumper could compare with that. I suppose they both cater to a different riding style and a lighter bike would be better for a tighter track. I just love a powerband too. And the 2 stroke just sings.
Two stokes dirt bikes sound like nitro rc cars
Wanna know why
Bc they both TWO STROKE
@@fluffly_3183, but I bet you didn't know that nitro is more akin to diesel, yeah 2 stroke diesels, Detroit makes some bad ass 2 strokes, you shoul check them out.
Lol nitro rc cars aren’t 2 stroke. They straight up make rc cars that are actually two stroke and are basically powered by a weed eater engine.
PS, due to the fact that nitro doesn't have a sparkplug, but a glow plug, it would technically classify as a diesel, (before you rant) dieseling is a verb, petrol engines can diesel...
I noticed you talked less on the 125! lol That two stroke demands full concentration and that's what makes them so much fun!

Just as I wanted to pick up a ktm 250 sxf,I saw your video today, and fuck me,now I want a 125 2stroker :D As I am new to motocross (I have a ktm 690 sm for street use),should I go with a 2 stroke to reduce the maintenance costs? Is it true that 2 stroker are cheaper to maintain/rebuild? Thanks
sinXO 2 strokes are cheaper and less complicated to rebuild, and they are harder to ride than 4 strokes, which will make you a better rider because you have to rev them harder and use clutch out of turns more.
Ride with Zach thanks for the fast reply, keep up the good work mate
Yes but you have to do then about 10x more often. I wanted a 125 2 stroke but I get arm pump in 10 mins so I’m going to a 250f
Well,I am not planning to race motocross, just rip some laps and some soft trails on weekends. I am not sure about that "10x" its a bit too much,as I know a 4t needs a rebuild around 100rh,if I'm correct.
sinXO I belive Honda recommends 12 hours on top end for 2 stroke. 126 hours on 4 stroke. Don’t quote me though. Not sure about bottom ends. You need to change 4 stroke oil more tho
I like 2 stroke more but i feel like i cant ride it as much here in Arizona because it gets really hot. Ive been told 4 strokes are better with heat.
