Silvuddy's Notes:
- Indigo (Kanto & Johto): Before unique Elite Four themes became a standard in Ruby & Sapphire, all Pokémon League officials save for Champions shared the same battle theme, meaning Gym Leader and Elite Four battles had the same music (though only Lance used the theme in RBY). In this sense, these themes were really just the typical "RPG boss themes" of these games. They get your pulse pounding all the same though!
- Hoenn: This is the first truly unique Elite Four theme in the series. The theme certainly brings a different tone than the Gym Leader battle theme from the same games. While not 100% in the intimidating category, there is definitely a good balance of intimidation and triumph, perfectly fitting for the final test of strength before the Champion.
- Sinnoh: Diamond and Pearl once again returned to reusing the Gym Leader battle theme for the Elite Four, however with the slight adjustment of pitching the theme down slightly for the Elite Four. It's a minor change, but hey, at least it's something. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl actually change the theme a bit more, adding an electric guitar in addition to the pitch change for some extra menace.
- Unova: Assumedly following the fan demand for unique Elite Four themes to return, Black and White brought us this masterpiece. The thumping, dark electronic beat in this theme really sets the tone while fighting this particularly dark Elite Four group. There's actually a really cool callback to the Hoenn Elite Four theme at the very end of the loop (such a shame they didn't keep doing these for every Elite Four theme)!
- Kalos: Much like the Gym Leader battle theme for X/Y, the Elite Four music is a subdued electronic track for a long stretch before introducing a main melodic motif. No Elite Four track is complete without some electric guitar, so of course it delivers pretty damn well once the main melody comes in. I think a lot of people (myself included!) didn't give this one enough credit when it came out, but it actually grows on you!
- Alola: Despite the lack of Gym Leaders in Alola, there is a brand new Elite Four to face! Their theme keeps in line with X/Y's somewhat subtle, dark tone at the start, eventually leading to a big impact. This theme is significantly shorter than its predecessor, however. I don't know if it's just me, but this one seems to fall kind of under the category of horror music with such dissonant strings and brass, oddly flowing synths, and dark ostinato bass... definitely the creepiest Elite Four theme.
- *Galar: Sword and Shield lacks a true Elite Four, but it still makes up for it with four tough, type-specialized battles leading up to the fight against Champion Leon. In this case, just before the Pokémon League finals, Bede interrupts to challenge you for one last fight. Following this, fights against 3 Gym Leaders in the finals fill the rest of those roles. The new theme that accompanies these rematches fits the vibe of the other Elite Four themes with grooving synths and electric guitar, so it definitely deserved to be included here even if it is just a remix of the regular Gym Leader theme.
- Paldea: Scarlet and Violet brought us back to standard with another true Elite Four. This one is a bit unique with its sporadic time signatures and dynamically changing intro sequence, though it combines elements of every Elite Four theme before it: synths both subtle and emphatic, chugging guitar, brass hits, and a tad of creepy intensity. There's actually a funny glitch from the first version of the game where the ethereal intro section would play indefinitely, and you'd never get to hear the true theme!

@@Robin_Glorb There's enough difference to make it distinct in my eyes, while 4 changes none of the note mapping at all, and just changes the pitch and a few instruments.

Xy criminaly underrated
I think that the main reason it gets hate is because the post game was so dull. There's almost no point in playing after beating the Pokémon League (which was disappointingly easy). I enjoyed the main story, but not as much as the Unova games the gen before.
For those interested, here’s my personal tier list (not counting rehashes of Gym Leader themes)
5. Alola (though the Smash Bros arrangement slaps!)

My fave used to be Hoenn until Alola came in. xD

Otherwise, the only changes would be Sinnoh being 3, and Kanto/Johto (the remade ones) around 4, then everyone else moving down from there. :P

One day I will make "DX" versions of all of these that include remixes and original tracks from spin-offs like Masters EX. In the mean time, I think there are some videos on TH-cam called like "Evolution of X Theme" and might feature the Masters EX remixes of some themes!

My stance on all the Elite Four themes:
Kanto, Johto, and Sinnoh just reuse the Gymleader themes. I'd say of the best versions of each of the three Gymleader themes, I'd say Johto (HGSS) is the cream of the crop, while Kanto (LGP&E) is second place, and then Sinnoh (BDSP) is a distant third.
Hoenn's is solid. I never liked the GBA soundfont, but the ORAS version is really good.
Unova's is probably the best in my opinion. Instead of being like a suped-up version of the Gymleader theme like the previous gens or making an equally positive sounding theme to the Gymleader theme much like Hoenn, Unova took the route of being terrifying. Instead of instilling the feeling of "Alright, we're in the homestretch! Let's get it going!" It instead makes you feel like you're about to get killed, like it's life or death as opposed to now or never.
Kalos is fine. Not my favorite, but it's still quite good. Just wish it got to the good part sooner, since the fights are so short in-game. Just under Hoenn for me.
Alola on the other hand feels a bit tryhard-y. It's like it's trying to instill the same feeling of fear as Unova, but the weird spooky-sounding instruments make it sound kinda bad. I still like it, but it's probably the weakest of the Elite Four themes barring the Gymleader theme repeats.
Galar tried to do a similar approach to Hoenn, being a theme that's similar in feeling to the Gymleader theme, yet still being much more powerful than said theme. The difference here is that the Galar one starts off really good, but then goes to shit once it reaches the higher key, then even worse with the cheering. I never liked the higher-pitch portion or cheering portion of the Galar Gymleader theme, and the same can be said for the Elite Four. I know it makes sense in terms of atmosphere, but it's just so corny. I'm debating putting it below Alola, but that beginning portion is just good enough that it barely manages to tie with it.
Paldea is in a similar boat to Alola, in that it's trying to be like Unova but doesnt meet the mark. The difference is that Paldea actually gets kinda close with it. I really like this one. It is quite menacing and powerful, and it definitely feels like I'm under a lot of pressure here. It's like I'm in the God damn SATs if the SATs involved beating the shit out of people. Not as good as Unova or Hoenn, but still very good.
So the final ranking is as follows:
9: Sinnoh (BDSP)
8: Kanto (LGP/LGE)
7: Johto (HGSS)
6+5: Alola (SM/USUM) & Galar (SWSH)
4: Kalos (XY)
3: Paldea (SV)
2: Hoenn (ORAS)

Like I said, those three are at the bottom because of the fact that they're repeats, not because they're actually bad. If we change the list based on how they sound, however, it's as follows:

Huh. I never could get past the Safari Zone as a kid in Pokémon Red, so my first time finishing Kanto was FR/LG. I didn't realize only Lance had the Gym Leader music originally.

The theme you picked for RBY only plays when facing Lance
Ah!! I had actually forgotten about that when making this video. I’ll leave a note in the description, but actually having Lorelei there still works best because Lance becomes a champion for GSC and I use his portrait in the Champion Battle Themes video on my channel, and FRLG and LGPE do still use the Gym Leader theme for all E4 battles. Thank you for pointing that out!

Hey, maybe you should take a look to Pokemon Masters EX Elite 4 theme. Elite 4 trainer from Kanto to Alola have their own theme.
Gen 5 be like: "if it ain't broken, don't fix it".

A bit of a fun fact about the Alola E4 theme: its actually a remix of a FE theme, that theme being "Together We Ride". Albeit the remix is slowdowned so it can be hard to tell
