    CKIII is so advanced that it generates actual Shakespearean tragedy, complete with dead characters just standing there silently

    Until this day, due to a lack of primary nordic sources, historians debate on the nature of Ragnar the Foolish's nickname. Some believe it was how the italians themselves refered to him at his time, because of the erratic and unexpected way he used to attack and pillage their towns, fooling their lords and commanders. Others defend that it was popularized years after the end of his rule, due to his fatal mistakes which eventually led to the end of his kingdom, and his dinasty. One andalusian source refers to a runestone raised in the outskirts of Tunis, which could be a key to understanding the relatively unknown life of King Ragnar. Unfortunately, though, it has never been found.

    What a incredible life, the life of King Ragnar himself, extravagant plays and great poems will be written of this man, not just of glory and pillaging, but of the greys tradegy that befall the Haesteinings, Odin himself barring the gates of Valhalla shut for Ragnar and his family of ‘African’ Norsemen.
    The man who brought the Haesteinings dynasty name to the forefront of the Carthaginian people; just as people all over the Mediterranean where hearing his name, just as the oppressed and fear stricken people of his kingdom were learning to embrace and revel in this foreign Vikings raiding exploits, it all came tumbling down!
    They say fame is a double edged sword, so to is the skill of Viking! A man as skilled in the art of raiding as the great Viking raider of his namesake, he followed in his footsteps and burnt all of Wessex and Kent down to the ground; the great walls of Paris were no match for his prowess; he thought himself unstoppable! The Carthaginians say that is why he dared strike at the heart of the Iberian sultanate.
    For all his glory and fear, the people who his father left to venture west then south all the way to the Berber Africans never truly respected him and his tiny band of Norsemen, with this dangerous mix of ego and anger he sailed to the gates of the great city of Valencia.... the city where he met his doom.
    The city where he lost not only battles, not only crippling his family name but even his own life, for the now broken king he could not fathom living in a world in which his favourite son no longer existed; so he took his life right in front of his daughter begging him to fight on, if not for glory, if not for family then call halls itself.
    He for a Viking to end his life so cowardly, to be denied entry through the golden gates of Valhalla, to be left as a lifeless body in the plains of southern Iberia, for his daughter couldn’t stop him nor would his son and heir bother to bring back the body of so foolish a man. That’s how became forever known as King Ragnar the Foolish in the history books!
    The book doesn’t end there - no! It leaves a short line to explain the vast foolishness of the King of Carthage, for you see his son not only was not educated in the ways of the Viking, nor was he any great administrator with no hope to fill his bleeding coffers, he had to contend with war from all of the Mediterranean; the French had come to liberate the oppressed berbers being falsely paraded around by the Haesteinings as Carthaginians; they sent their best man, the wealthy and brilliant tactician the Duke of Provence!
    The Romans also came, just like nearly a millennium and a half ago, a new breed of Romans, the byzantines where thundering across the ocean in their ships that dwarfed the triremes of antiquity, not to liberate the city of Carthage back to Tunisia but to burn it all to the ground once more, clearly the salt in the ground needed renewing!
    How will our new hero save his people and claw the family name back from ruin !!!

    Stress and coping mechanisms seem to be REALLY bad! Seems like avoiding any sort of stress like the plague is a must or you turn into a walking plague. This system seems utterly awful!!!

    • @EriIaz
      @EriIaz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excuse me, what?
      Stress is awesome. It’s a balancing measure between role playing a character and cheesing the game, so you can do things you have to do, like educating your primary heir properly, but at the same time let things unfold naturally and avoid things like granting independence with a greedy and ambitious character. You have to pick your priorities wisely for your ruler to stay in check.
      And it’s not too hard to reduce incoming stress. For starters, you always have hunts and feasts do deal with stress. Some sins and virtues largely affect stress system too, and some ways of coping with stress are better than the others which can synergyze well with your play style. You even have lifestyle perks which largely affect both stress income and reduction.
      It’s a very nice system, you just have to dig into it a little bit and understand how it works.

    • @thenecrophymm6591
      @thenecrophymm6591 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Necrophymm it’s mostly fine if you are able to prevent a breakdown or got lucky enough with a good coping mechanism option on breakdown, or even in general. That ruler had a lot of options, it’s the chat which picked the worst one :D
      For that ruler, throwing money into the problem actually had much more sense than visiting brothel. I would say, that’s just not a good stress dumping decision, too risky. Yeah, he’s lustful, but lustful ruler probably gotta be more picky than going after random wenches in local tavern - in fact, a good way of stress reduction for a lustful ruler before breakdowns is seducing a spouse or concubine. If when already done, can find a courtier or even any character within diplo range. Can pick a hot duchess with god traits for the genes while you are at it, or just choose an non-fertile target, if you already have characters with good traits. Could be of age, could be even, you know... a “biking” :D It can be a problem since your clergy usually considers that criminal, but hey, that’s absolutely child-free, hand if you are stuck with a gavelkind :D
      I used to do eugenics in CK2 a lot, and in CK3 it’s even better since seductions actually reduce stress, and A LOT OF IT if your character is lustful :D You can either make a lover if your prey is really good stats-wise or are the spouse/concubine, and you can always go for that good old “Veni, vidi, vici” option which is safer. Either way, it is much better than taking that huge decease risk in a brothel because you usually can spot an unhealthy character just by looking at the model and filtering the characters with bad health out. Especially if the counterpart is not lustful, so there is smaller chance of getting a decease via proxy if you keep them as lovers some time later. Which, to be fair, is very small in comparison with brothel anyway. I actually do that to cut the possibilities of hooks on me and jealousy events - I did not have them yet, but I am pretty confident there are some :D
      By the way, being nice to the spouse, especially if she is good, is very helpful, a lover/soulmate spouse actually reduces the odds of being cheated. I even suspect there is abortion/infanticide event, but it never shows up if your spouse actually likes you or in love with you. It also seems you roll the shenanigans check more often with wife-soulmates and concubine-lovers than usual. Which is very useful too for that lineage preservation of your future superhuman gene warriors :D
      With all of that, you can even take more stress on breakdown and dump it in a seduction spree. Keep in mind that your friends, good relation with spouse, soulmate can also enhance stress reduction during feasts and hunts, so that quickly adds up. The only downside is when your close ones die, you get some stress, but that’s not too much to care about, if you are not befriending all of your knights for some odd reason.
      And being greedy does not contradict with throwing money into own stress. Not all greedy persons are ascetic, in fact the majority of them are hedonistic instead, they just need more money for their own luxury. And being a raider, money is not that big of a problem. The Pope can always donate some :D
      Either way, I would say just stay away from the brothel, 1/10 experience, Haesteinn does not recommend it))
