DUDE. My heart was telling me you have to go PSA. In fact, wasn't your heart telling you the same? The McD is a PSA 8 all day and night, every night. What's crazy is 7+9.5+9.5+9=35. 35/4=8.75. So they either weight centering, or apply a rule where your lowest sub-grade docks you. Or - more likely - they're snorting copious amounts of angel dust.
It is absolutely absurd that grading companies don’t provide photos highlighting issues with the cards. There’s almost zero accountability with these big grading companies. Moving on, Zeeree would have to pay a $2000 premium fee to have his Matthews card graded by PSA. Then imagine this…a guy who got cheated on the night before grades his card a 7…with no rationale. Sorry, buddy! Thanks for the 2 grand! 🤯
That's not how Beckett grades. The overall grade isn't an average. They put more weight on the centering and corner subgrades. The rule is, they will bump the overall grade 1 point higher than the lowest edge or surface subgrades, but will only bump it 0.5 higher than centering and corner subgrades.
I think the mcdavid might get an psa 8 at best since there are some condition issues and could get lucky and get a psa 9 on the Matthews. The auto has no where to go but up.
Well, this has helped support my choice to send some of my cards to a smaller grading company. Plus, none of them are super valuable, so probably not worth the cost of grading from the larger companies.
Knew the centering was really bad on that McDavid card from the first video. Top to bottom is pretty off. Feel like this would have been a better PSA submission since they don't killing centering as harshly.
The surface on the McDavid is definitely not a 9.5. So many blemishes and little scratches. You’d think with two massive cards like these they’d take their time with it. Or actually have multiple graders look it over and grade it and then work to find a consensus on the grade.
They won’t grade a card any more than .5 higher than the lowest sub. So if he had 7 and 3 10s they would still only give him a 7.5. I’ve seen a card with a 2 sub and 3 9.5s and the card graded a 2.5, lol.
I sent in 40 cards to Beckett also, I cleaned ,checked the corners, and used a black light on them and not one 10. I watched about 5 videos of people opening Beckett returns and no 10's
I guess simple math doesn't apply? The 4 McJesus numbers totalled 35. Divide that by 4 gives you 8.75. Even rounding down you get 8.5. Take the bonus of the edges though. Those were a bit rough, but they let you have a 9 on them!! And for what it's worth, the centering was off from top to bottom and side to side.
I don’t use Beckett. The problem if you submit the McDavid to PSA is that they will see the bad edges, card probably won’t grade higher. They really screwed you on the Matthews auto.
In my head when you said you were submitting them I thought both cards would get 8s. That Matthews auto grade is the harshest part for me. I think there needs to be something massively, obviously wrong with the auto to go that low and yours is entirely fine in my eyes.
Their numbers don't make any sense at all?!?!? it's like they graded everything and then just picked a random number for the final grade. If you go by .... i don't let's say......MATH!!!! you get an 8.75 on the McDavid!!!! even with the 7 subgrade. This is utter bs.
Not every subgrade is weighted the same when BGS does their little algorithm that spits out the final grade. That other McDavid getting a higher grade with a lower sub must mean they weigh edges less than they do centering. It’s not always just .5 above the lowest sub there are rare instances it can be higher but it depends on what the weakest sub was. They’re definitely still inconsistent AF a lot of the time. That centering wasn’t as bad as the sub makes it out to be
Pretty sure that Grader Guy is actually buying on ebay and he lowballed those gradings so he can buy them cheaper and then put a realistic grading on it. #conspiracytheories
I don’t know much about MNT, but from what I’ve seen they look like they grade pretty solidly. I think the whole Grading doesn’t add value unless it’s PSA or BGS is ridiculous. I’ve seen so Many PSA cards that just don’t live up to the grade they’re given.
The edges and surface on the mcdavid must have had a blind man grading the card because I saw what that card looked like before being slabbed and no way does it deserve a 9.5. You got hosed on the Matthews auto, that should be 9 at worst and could have been a 10 and no one would complain.
Agreed on the Matthews being arbitrary at an 8. I do think people tend to get their hopes up with buying a high end raw card and thinking there is a fantastic opportunity for them to add value through grading. Everyone knows what they have now, and if it’s raw it’s likely that way for a reason. Both cards had obviously flaws, I get the subgrades are wacky but zero chance the McDavid should ever grade a 9 with the centering and edgewear.
better than i expected. the mcdavid is more like a 6.5 its pretty rough. however its cause the edges are bad. also the mcdavid thats better than yours is graded wrong. ive never seen beckette give a grade more than .5 up on the lowest subgrade.
Crack them both send them to PSA and do a video comparing both!!! The macdavid will probebly come back a psa 8?? And the Mathews auto will be a 9 at least. Plus it's good content!!!
But be careful because these companies are keeping track of serial numbers and know when a card has been cracked out and resubmitted to another company. PSA gave me the exact grade after I tried to cross two BGS cards over. Some they will not even regrade because they have the serial number stored in their files and will know if it was cracked out.
Not only are those sub grades on McDavid suspect, but how they get the final score doesnt jive with the subs. For the price theyre charging the scoring should be clear and concise..not at the whim of some unknown grader whose having a shitty day. A quick search showed their dishonesty in their grading scores. Looks like they didnt spend as much time grading it as you did researching their grading record.
IMO. From comparing the top (centre crown) to the bottom on the McDavid it's quite a difference, then comparing left to right it's a 60/40 or so. I can see it being a 7 on the centering. But then giving the surface a 9.5 and the edges, with all the blemishes you pointed out lol it a blessing there lol. Kinda weird. The Matthews auto could have been at least a 8.5, damn beckett. I think you can get a psa 8 on that McDavid. Either way Zeeree, amazing cards man. 🔥
PSA places far less emphasis on centering and far more emphasis on surfaces. Sub-grades are also rather worthless these days. I understand why some collectors prefer BGS, but for 95% of the hockey cards out there, PSA rules.
I am a new collector and only out for a few cards personally but I think the beckett slab looks much better then psa. Because of how the hobby loves psa most of my cards are from them but i would do a straight trade for same card in bgs slab. I dont care about sub grades either altho i guess they help explain your grade.
Great video Zeeree but honestly it kinda ticked me off because I know the graded are better than given.. you gave clear comparisons of the auto... it is what it is bro, but you got more value there $$$ then the grades suggest
Goes to show these grading companies are a total crapshoot and a dice-roll. No idea how that McDavid averaged lower than that 8, when it had higher subs.
The grade on the Matthews auto was bad, but the grade on the McJesus was fair. The front centering was off top to bottom, and side to side, and that top edge was brutal.
That is completely wrong on there part you have the evidence on there website of others cards that got lower grades with edges and surfaces I’d complain to them especially Matthew’s auto they are screwing around which isn’t right
@@carletonrutherford1799 didn't the sub grades say different? Centering got a 7 (I think) and the others were 9 and 9.5s if I'm not mistaken. Back to the Centering tho, imo it's better than a 7 so there's that
I just got my mack cup rpa /99 from BGS. Edges surface and corners all 9’s and freakin 7.5 on centering and i get an 8 overall with the white paper instead of silver SO FRUSTRATING
Send that to psa.

That auto grade on the Matthews is beyond ridiculous. Unreal how Beckett raw dogged you, I’d appeal or send it to someone else
The auto is bad though.
@@VolcardoReviewer compared to the one that got a 9 tho….
SGC? I have heard interviews with the company president and highly respect him. Have had great experiences with them personally.
And that is why Beckett is losing customers left and right. So inconsistent and terrible graders. Should have gone PSA all the way.
The subgrades are weighed differently with beckett - centering has a heavier weight towards the final score
On high end cards they should have to include a explanation video or something
But then they could be held accountable, they don't want that.
I agree. At least a paragraph explaining why the grades are what they are.
It is absolutely absurd that grading companies don’t provide photos highlighting issues with the cards. There’s almost zero accountability with these big grading companies.

I agree you are spending a lot of money to get them graded and get screwed with those grades that’s non sense

I know you’re disappointed on ur grades, but those guys stock will continue to go up. That Mathew’s patch auto is rare, and barely any are graded.
This is the exact reason why I don't grade my cards. They are way to inconsistent.
Plus it's so expensive to grade them.
If I’m you I’m sending both to PSA and not grading the autos. Aesthetically the slab looks better without an auto grade and without sub grades.
The grades on the mac daddy are ridiculous. Can't believe it haha
Hey Z, give us an update with that McD. Beckett needs questions. Must provide answers?
The Connor McDavid 7.5 definitely should be an 8.5. I don't know how they calculate thier averages for all of that but that is so messed up.
They won’t grade a card any more than .5 higher than the lowest sub. So if he had 7 and 3 10s they would still only give him a 7.5.
I’ve seen a card with a 2 sub and 3 9.5s and the card graded a 2.5, lol.
@4:15 hes shows a 8.0 that has 7.0 edges. I thought the .5 then the lowest was generally the rule aswell but now I dunno.
Grade on the McDavid with those subgrades is horseshit. I'd call Beckett.
I’ve seen smudged siggys get 8 like that is ridiculous !
The centering on the McDavid is fine but the edges are bad. Definitely confusing sub grades!
I sent in 40 cards to Beckett also, I cleaned ,checked the corners, and used a black light on them and not one 10. I watched about 5 videos of people opening Beckett returns and no 10's

Why give them all that power...Which grader almost killed trading cards in the 90s or 2000s ?
Ya that was a bit of a choochoo. I love seeing these cards get graded but they're nicer without the slab in my opinion.
Well i just saw all i needed to see to never graded with BGS, PSA it is.

The centering on that Mcdavid is bad due to the right hand side being shorter than left hand side of the card, the border.
Exactly!
Captain Obvious strikes again!
Why you shouldn't grade with PSA and Beckett
the dude working at beckett was having a baaad day
