How hard would it be to pack a mint condition Wayne Gretzky rookie card? Apparently pretty hard...but the BarDown squad was curious to see how much it would cost to do it!
As every kid did i played with Pokémon cards. And basically I ripped off a kid by trading a shitty card ( tricking him that it was good), for a card worth $400. And yes I got full value ($400) for it
Woof, sorry Jesse, but also, I'm so happy Z stepped out from behind the camera, like he gives great quizzes and if he is the one that edits them then he is also crazy good at that, but like, what a super funny, fun dude to watch. Thank you all!
Oh! Also, suggestion for potential future quiz: famous hockey superstition/lore/rumor? Idk. Or, honestly, any chance at a NWHL/CWHL/any type of women's hockey type quiz?
Woof, sorry Jesse, but also, I'm so happy Z stepped out from behind the camera, like he gives great quizzes and if he is the one that edits them then he is also crazy good at that, but like, what a super funny, fun dude to watch. Thank you all!
I stumbled upon this group on accident a few months ago and I’m so pleased that I did. Whenever a new video comes out it becomes such a high point of my day. Keep on keeping on!
My dad gave me his card collection and he had the real Wayne Gretzky rookie card BUT, when he got it he was so happy he scotched it on is wall and now there is a big hole in the back so like 1/10 condition... rip 500,000$
Kind of makes me want to buy a box again, I last did that like 8-9 years ago, just a cheap upper deck set as a fun way to kind of learn new players and stuff on teams I don't follow much. Fun to be able to like know every team's top 3 lines by name again when I don't get to watch too much anymore.
I was dressing my kid next to another dad at a hockey camp when my son asked the other father if he played. He was like yeah, I play for the ducks. He introduced himself as Ryan Miller and I had no idea who he was. Super chill guy.
Great video guys. Spent many of my dad's hard earned dollars on cards back in the day. My prime was a Jagr rookie that Beckett priced at about $600 that I had bent the crap out of. Love the content, keep it up Bardown!
Ive been collecting a long time off and on. Watching you guys was awesome. You are obviously semi new to collecting cards and it seems like you guys get it. Even when opening the first box’s the one guy just liked the pictures, that’s part of it, knowing states and so on are all part of collecting. And having a cool man cave with thousands of baseball and hockey cards. Great video!!
Don't worry Jesse, I believed too hahaha. Great video guys. I just don't understand the culture behind the cards, as a foreigner hockey fan. Can someone explain why they worth that much ?
Here's a real basic explanation. Before hockey cards were mass produced by multiple companies like they are today, there was really only one (and later two) card company making cards (O-Pee-Chee and later Topps) in the 50s-80s. Their value today basically comes down to supply and demand. When you wanted a pack of cards back in the day, you would buy a pack of O-Pee-Chee cards. That was your only option (until Topps, but that's a whole other explanation...see the O-Pee-Chee wiki page if you're interested). Today, we have so many card companies that the values of modern cards are diluted compared to old cards that were only produced in limited runs by one company. Essentially, little supply of the world's greatest hockey player's cards (i.e. a Gretzky rookie) = incredible value because they're so rare. Like the guy said in the video, the higher graded the card, the more valuable it is. A 10 is essentially means it was printed and cut perfectly and is still in mint condition - these are the rarest among the rare, making them the most valuable to collectors.
The most basic idea behind dollar values of collectibles is that items are worth what someone is willing to pay for them. Any explanation beyond that is hobby-specific nerdiness about why someone is willing to pay more for something. I play a couple trading card games and you see it all the time there too.
As an object that was made contemporaneously to when the legendary players were in the league they're a neat enough thing to gaze upon from time to time. But the reason why people spend thousands or tens/hundreds of thousands for what is ultimately just a piece of cardboard points to the fact that people have way too much money to spend on trivial things. You could literally save the lives of hundreds of people for what some people spend on a small piece of cardboard. Terrible priorities. Worms for brains.
A very basic response: For anything collectible, it's worth depends on the collector and how much he/she is willing to pay for it. People quote price guides, auction listings, etc. but in the end, whether its a painting, car, hockey card or something else, it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it in cold hard cash. Otherwise, enjoy what you have.
rhamses also depends on how many of a certain card are produced. At least in current times. You’ll get more for a card numbered /10 then one numbered /100
12:01 Kyle Baun is currently playing for my local team the Belfast Giants. You also recently did a write up on Ethan McClean who is a fan of the Giants, great article by the way.
This was hilarious omg. Nothing beats unwrapping new cards! I started a half assed collection at the all star Fan Fair in '17 but being from the UK I mostly just buy a couple packs whenever I'm in North America lol. So far the best one I've had is a Robby Fabbri rookie card (whatever I like the Blues) and a Fleury card from last season so I was really hoping they were gonna take the Cup 😂
Man I wonder if I have any cards that are worth anything. I have about 10 3inch binders full in card holders all neatly organized and most are in perfect condition. Most are from baseball, but I have all the other major sports as well. I'd say my collection is around 5,000 cards, I've been collecting since I was around 6, I'm 32 now. I miss it, and I wish more people got as excited about it as you guys do, bring card collecting back!
You should look into online group breaks. You get a random team and get every card for that team. Allows you to get a slice of products you'd never be able to afford normally. Obviously you could leave with nothing but usually it's decent.
Growing up I went to school with a kid who's dad worked on Jordan's blazer. That bastard had roughly 25-30 Jordan rookie cards. I'm still too jealous to look up how much even 1 goes for
Will never forget being with my dad at his friends house during game 4 of the red wings flyers final and he goes you want to see something cool. He went and got hockey cards. He had multipled of these btw. Gretzky, mario, orr rookie cards. Other rare ones too. My dad passed away young so I wonder what he did with those cards. But I was freaking out when he had those cuz I used to collect as well. I had wayne's second year, no biggie wish it was his rook, hasek rookie, turgeon and a few others who were rookies during the late 80s and early 90s. Lost them over the years. Just for nostalgic sake I wish I had em. But I couldn't believe someone had multiples of those cards.
The Jesse part of him pulling a Wayne Grezkey card and then it being fake is the funniest thing I have ever seen since Dz started a question with grit grinder
I have a Gretz rookie card I got out of a pack when I was a kid. I am the original owner and its in great shape, obviously in hard covering now. Kept that card for 40 years, along with many others. Sadly I have no idea what its worth. Sits in a box in my closet lol
I’m sitting on two Gretzky Rookie cards one is in not to good of shape but the other one is in great shape and also it’s signed! Wayne signed it for me when Hockey was on strike back in 93 He is a member at the country club where I used to work. (Sherwood)
I had a Gretzky card worth $1600 that i traded for a stack of Paul Kariya's when I was 10 years old... arguably my worst decision in life
Blake Gregory that’s sad
Ouch....😬
Paul kariya is my favourite player of all time even tho he dosn't play no more...
As every kid did i played with Pokémon cards. And basically I ripped off a kid by trading a shitty card ( tricking him that it was good), for a card worth $400. And yes I got full value ($400) for it
No Way ! Why Did You Do IT ? Howmuch IS The ROOKIE Card now ? FEEL The Pain !
You guys could have at least bought Jesse a Jeff Beukeboom card
The guy who lead the Rangers to the '94 cup Jeff Beukeboom?!
That's a good idea!
TSN yeah that would make him feel better then you should rip it up also
Jesse would be happy
I support this. Guy deserves a Beukeboom card for how much you rip on him.
This needs to have its own spin off channel for these guys lol
Hockey Frapps I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or if you’re actually just oblivious
Aiden Duryba they’re still on the tsn channel there isn’t a solo channel just for these kinds of videos
@@uj5436 What are u talking about? He's saying that these guy deserve their own channel rather than just being part of the TSN channel.
@SteelCityFilms Try Guys-Bardown crossover!
SteelCityFilms The Try Guys aren’t gay. Zach has a girlfriend, Kieth and Ned are married to women and Eugene, while dirty and funny, is straight.
This video should be called crushing Jesse's dreams in a matter of 60 seconds lol
Deuces Shoeless that would be funny 😂
500Like
*then they look through the rest of the pack and find the actual fake card*
oh okay 😂😂😂😂
Lol
I need a Jesse revenge series. Guy gets ganked like 3 out of 4 videos.
Best would be to have a Grezky look-a-like come in to talk shit to the guys about their videos
Getting a Jeff Beukaboom card in a 1979-80 pack would've been really impressive though considering he didn't get drafted until like 83
Man, Gretzky in hand yet they're waving it around !!

Almost a year and a half later this is 100% still my favorite bardown video to date. Absolute beauties
That was pretty mean but hilarious at the same time hahaha

This was such a great video idea. I always wanted to try something like this when I was little

I LOVE how Jesse says cowards....SO Canadian!! These guys and gal are brilliant. More skits and stuff please.
Ironically in gretzkys last game he mentioned Jeff Beukeboom in his speech, now who's really the true legend 😎
