    Rahul Dravid finally got his name on the Lord's Honours Board. What he missed out on his test debut, he accomplished it by scoring a century in Lords on his last England tour. A poetic end to the illustrious journey of one of the finest gentlemen of the game. Inspired an entire generation.

    My favorite cricketer of all time. Im a 90s guy when sachin fanfare was at peak but i always silently prayed for dravid to score whenever he turned up to bat..
    Anyways, to Cyrus point of dravid being not so flamboyant hence people dont appreciate him much perhaps, i think its a wrong notion. It is upto us- the people, the media specially to highlight it and celebrate it. A person's job is to do his job well and he did bloody well ! And regarding Joy's point of 1 bad game vs ban in wc20007 as a glitch, i fail to understand why we still game vs ban as the reason of our exit..our destiny was in our hand, we knew we had to beat SL to qualify but we choked. It was not like we lost to Ban and we exited. And even in game vs SL, sachin scored a duck, dravid top scored with 60 something. Thats why i always admired dravid. Whenever a crunch game or india struggling he would perform. And sachin would often disappoint in those kind of big matches

    Once John Wright mentioned somewhere that he told this to Rahul Dravid after his 602 runs in 4 test matches against England in 2002
    [ 2 centuries 115 (Nottingham),148 (Leeds) and a 217 (Oval) ]
    "Dear Rahul, If someone asks for your resume, just pull out a white sheet of paper and write down this double hundred on it. Every International dressing room will invite you to be their No #3 ".
    If this was a TV interview Rahul Dravid would have told, well, Sachin also scored 409 runs in the series and not to forget Micheal Vaughan scored 615 runs.
    That is the class of the Man!
    Happy Birthday Jam! You made cricket watchable for a generation!
    More than your cricket, your gameplay was inspiration for our lives. Grinding it out in a competitive world yet not taking short cuts.

    I think JB is not giving him enough credit. The funny thing about him not having a signature shot is because he played every shot with not just competence, but with amazing flair and technical nous. He had a gorgeous cover drive, and lofted extra cover drive, perfect on drive, very stylish late cut and back foot punch, an underrated pull shot, beautiful flicks of the pad, and the shot that made him one of the greatest batters, the perfect front foot defense. The fact that he chose not to exhibit the more attacking shots with greater frequency was because he played the conditions and had patience to wait for the perfect ball to play those shots. Look at highlights of his innings and you will see how stylish a player he was once conditions were in his favor.

    Rahul Dravid, the unsung hero of Indian cricket who played in the shadows of Tendulkar and Ganguly. My all time favourite batsman. Still remember that match in England where he opened the batting, remained not out, India were following on and he came out to open again. He missed out getting his name in 1996 on the Honour's Board but did so on that 2012 tour. Rahul Dravid, the nice guy who finished first.

    Decent captain.
    He is still the last test captain to win a series in England.
    He won a test series in West Indies (2006) after 1971.
    1st test win of India in South African soil was under him.
    Record of 17 odi matches chasing and winning them.
    Took the rajasthan royals into the top 4 and also the final of Champions league T20.
    Only blot in his captaincy, unfortunately was the 2007 ODI world cup which people remember, forgetting everything else.

    • @GRVish
      @GRVish หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The blot on captaincy occured because Greg Chappell was coach and people like Tendulkar and Ganguly revolted. It had nothing to do with Dravid.

    • @arkzbh
      @arkzbh หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GRVish there was no revolt, no one underperformed on purpose. Yes, there was animosity with Chappel, but Sachin and Ganguly wanted to perform just like any other else if not more. It just didn't happen. Watched the match against Bangladesh live, after the loss there were cameras focusing on everyone's face. Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid, all were barely able to hold tears. With modern cameras, im sure we would've spotted tears

      @arkzbh Ind vs Pak 2003 test series which was played in Pakistan. Ganguly was injured for the first 2 test and Dravid captained India.
      Its the famous series in which Dravid had declared when Sachin was battling at 194* in the first test & Dravid scored his personal best of 270 runs in the 3 test ensuring India wins the test series. Sunil Gavaskar had rightly said in one was of interviews tht in Dravid captaincy India won most overseas series win.

    His innings in West Indies, just before the world cup in 2007 had some brilliant knocks, involved so much patience, and great technique. Can't really accept that Pujara is a successor to Rahul Dravid. Pujara is a bits and pieces batter with an awkward technique and gets bogged down more often than not, but Dravid exhibited amazing flair with his batting. He cuts, he pulls, he drives, he sweeps, he flicks, he plays the on-drive with a slight roll of the wrists. His backfoot defense is world class. On a pitch where there is bit of extra bounce or when a bowler steams at him back of the length he hops and knocks off the sting by getting on top of the ball which no batman plays these days.

    Agree with everything said about Dravid,. He was India's best match winner during his time, at least in test matches.
    Point about Viv Richards was, he had a good technique, he just did not bother to deploy it because he still thought he was the king of all he surveyed. That may have caused his downfall sometimes. He was not getting the big runs but kept getting lots of 70s and 80s even in his very last series.
    Sehwag had a smartness about him that kept him in good stead. He was dropped now and then towards the end of his career and may not have been motivated enough to play tightly.
