  • We source fruit and vegetables from our garden to preserve. But we also buy fruit and vegetables wholesale and through retail fruit and veg shops.
In this video I share a recent purchase which may help if you have ever wondered about buying fruit and veg wholesale.

If you want to see how the dehydrated onions went, check out our Bush Edge Homesteading Australia Facebook page. And don't miss next weeks video, if you want to see how we preserved up all these bananas in 3 different ways.

Love the video as always. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love that you share the food you buy.
I think so many people feel that they have to grow everything at their home to be self sufficient and a homesteader.
However none of us can do absolutely everything especially on small size blocks. And especially if we also work outside the home.
I would love nothing more then to have 100 acres an fruit forest of over 100 trees and shrubs.
20-40 garden beds and grow my own meat. In reality I rent work full time and honestly just can’t afford to do that.
So I do what I can with what I have.
Each year I get more and grow more and learn more.
This all helps to get us there.
Your videos remind us all that whatever we do is what is right for us. ❤❤❤❤❤

It is really lovely to hear that feedback Lindsey 💖 We really do want to show how we actually do things and make things work for us. Which definitely isn't that perfect crafted ideal you can see at times. But that isn't our reality. For us, it's about doing the things we can, with where we are and amongst other lifes commitments.
Hopefully by sharing 'our real activities' it shows others that you don't have to do everything and to a perfect standard. Thats an unrealistic pressure that could ultimately put people off the things that could give them joy.

gees that was a score! We don't have any cheapy fruit shops up here - but we've been able to swap a lot with other locals at the moment! But when we lived out at Mooroolbark (before st kilda days...) we used to shop at the one at Chirnside Park all the time and they were SO CHEAP!!

We are extremely lucky to have access to them. Swapping is also a great option. Any chance there are local farms that sell direct out your way?

@@Bush_Edge_Homesteading_Aus it's mostly sheep country out this way. There is some produce about 20min away, but not heaps of farmers doing that around here. Too dry for the most part.

I tried to get there yesterday but couldn’t. I use bananas a lot. That’s a great buy.

It pays to watch their Facebook feed, as prices of boxes changes day to day on what is the best deal.

The Big Watermelon is great!!! Also, Dandenong Market you can get amazing deals for boxed items… We got 10 kilos of tomatoes for $5 once because they were getting rid of it but it was perfect to make sauce 😅

Great haul there Rachel. I see the advertisements for the Big Watermelon come up in my feed and I’ve always wondered what the quality was like.
Handy information if ever I manage to get out that way in the future. Did they have any spray free stuff, or is it all conventionally grown produce? xx Cathi xx 😘

Thanks Cathi. I haven't ever seen organic or anything like that there though. All the regular grown stuff. But the quality is always good. 👌

Haha, welcome to the ninja creami dark side! In Brisbane we have heaps of mangos and dragonfruit atm so stocking the freezer with containers for gelati, we bought three extra 4 packs of containers and I need to buy a bunch more.

I am soooooo deep in!!!! 🤣😂🤣😂 It is literally ninja night EVERY night since Christmas 😂🤣😂🤣
And oh my, you having the mango access is a blessing. That has been a real favourite.

@Bush_Edge_Homesteading_Aus yeah it's been a good mango season here. I have 10 varieties, half still young trees, but we had 100 plus mangos. We also pick one or two dragon fruit every day. It's easier to have a fruit supply all year round in the subtopics.
