The SCTA sets up an FM Station (88.7FM If I remember...its been awhile, No Racing At El Mirage this year so far due to lake bed issues, hoping for July) They broadcast the Start Line announcements on FM, and CB-radios are used for all officials communications (Ch 1, then Ch 10 when someone sits on their mic), as well as the Timing Tower Comm's. I always have both in the background to try to hear who's coming down the course. At El Mirage the Announcers Trailer is right at the start line, so they can see whats going on. The Bonneville Announcers, however, are located by the pit area 3-miles from the Start lines. From there they can better track the 4-courses running at once.

El Mirage ranges from 70's and 80's-F in May, up to the 100's in the summer months. Bonneville Salt Flats is a completely different story: Air temps can range from mid-60's up to the low 100's, however, On The Salt Temps soar, due to the sun's reflection off the white surface (Like spring skiing in the mountains, it's blindingly bright) I'd guess on the salt it's easily 120-F, So Shade is King, and protective full length Sun-Clothing is the best way to prevent Exposure. If you are out in the sun filming, water, shade, sunscreen, and those "Fishing Shirts and Pants" are a must.
