Amazing! The song pays homage to supporters/advocates of the civil rights movement: Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye, John Lennon, Kurtis Mayfield, Bob Dylan, James Brown, Billie Holiday, Jonie Mitchell, etc, etc -x-

Hozier is my second vocal beast of this era behind Zayn Malik. This song makes me feel things. Thanks for the review bro.

I’m so glad to see more Hozier reactions! Yes, you’re absolutely have the right people, in the music video, a number of modern Irish activists as well as Hozier and Mavis Staples are sat in front of a projector screen listening to the song while footage of protests is projected onto them, there’s a website dedicated to explaining each of their causes.
And Hozier wrote Someone New with a then-girlfriend now-ex, about the more superficial aspects of love 😅
Also! His mom made the art for both is album covers! I assumed it was some sort of collage at first, but the cover for his self-titled album, and for Wasteland, Baby! are actually both oil paintings! He asked if he could use one of her paintings for the Take Me To Church single release cover, and that’s how the rest of the paintings came about. He wouldn’t let her paint his face on that cover because in the collection that first one came from, none of the subjects had faces, and he wanted that painting to fit with them : )
You said you have a list, but if you’re looking for something specific, I don’t think he has a bad song. No pressure to get to these, but a few of my favorites:
Movement is a song about dancing rather than a dance song, and we remain floored by the agility of his voice
Almost(Sweet Music) is about music’s affect on memory and memory’s affect on music, and it’s lyrics are composed mostly of titles of jazz standards he grew up listening to(he made a tutorial on the clapping part, it’s still hard to follow 😂 - although it’s totally worth taking a look at, it’s about a minute long)
Work Song is just the sweetest, a very pure love song.
To Be Alone is bluesy and a little bit feral, there’s a gorgeous live performance of it in Kilkenny (I think it’s titled “To Be Alone - Live in Kilkenny”)
Shrike demonstrates some beautiful finger style guitar(I would suggest looking up what a shrike is before listening!)
It Will Come Back is seductive and bluesy, there’s a gorgeous performance of it titled something like “It Will Come Back - Attic Sessions”)
Ooh! And if you want to see one of his covers, he covered “Do I Wanna Know” by the Arctic Monkeys in the BBC live lounge
(and there are so many more songs still)
    I hope you enjoy! 😊

Strongly recommend going for his live versions to react to as they are even better than the album recordings. My favourites are 'Shrike' and 'kiss like real people do' but honestly there are loads of great ones

Great reaction! Hozier's 'Arsonist's Lullaby' is amazing and feels very autobiographical, so a real interesting song to check out. Also 'Jackboot Jump' is very topical right now, so also an interesting listen. Love watching your reactions...keep 'em coming! 🙂

If you want some suggestions, I'd recommend Jackie and Wilson, To Be Alone, Movement, and Work Song. Another song that I don't really see reactions for is Nobody, which is great, along with Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene. Shrike is another wonderful one. And like someone else mentioned, his live versions are really good too!

Love your reaction. Fantastic shout out to activist artists. 'Jackboot Jump' by Hozier is in the same vein. His voice is so rich, and his lyrics touch the soul. 'Arsonist's Lullaby' and 'Work Song' showcase his talents really well.
