purple rain was a movie. And the song is one of the best. This song came out at a time when all artists had to have a good video especially on MTV to sell records.. no internet and no cell phones . Greetings from Norway. 😀
Prince beat Mozart, he mastered over 14 instruments by age 17, he could dance, sing any note, rap, he wrote, arranged, performed ALL his music, including wrote hits for other artists, he has covered almost every genre, Metal, Punk rock, hip hop, pop, r&b, soul, jazz, blues, country, ambience, classical, instrumental. The Multi-Genre God. He could play anything, and your favorite artists have been deeply influenced by him. Corey Taylor, Whitney Houston, Steve Vai, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Lil uzi vert, H.E.R. , Paul Mccartney, all worship Prince to just name a few. Prince recorded his first 2 albums at 16 all by himself, all instruments, lyrics, arrangement, composition & vocals were all by him. He was such a prodigy, that music executives wanted proof, they would fly across country just to see if he could really play all instruments, because it was so unheard of. Prince has over 50 official released albums and when he passed, they found over 10 thousand unreleased Prince music in his vault. He then came into the business and was the FIRST to fight for artists rights, and he WON. He would write "slave" on his cheek and go to meetings protesting against the industry. Prince was also the first artist to sell his music on the internet. You are talking about the most talented artist we will ever see.

for some of us , this album was the most emotional, intense, heartfelt cry for love (romantic, sexual love) we had ever heard. he completely embodied this music. the film is semi autobiographical. album is a massive crossover between soul/rb and rock. and he wrote ALL the parts. he played all the parts. he was a shooting star, like jim morrison or janis joplin or jimi hendrix. man i miss him.
Jimi Hendrix was asked what guitar player he admired. He said Billy Gibbons. Billy was asked what it’s like to be the best guitar player in the world. Billy said I don’t know go ask Prince.
After one performance Jimi Hendrix was interviewed and asked how it felt to be the best rock guitar player . He said " Ask Terry Kath " . Terry Kath was the guitarist for Chicago until he accidentally shot himself in the head with a supposedly unloaded handgun .
@@victorwaddell6530 I guess it depends on which story you want to quote, one article says he had many "favorites": Albert King Muddy Waters B.B. King Elmore James Albert Collins Eric Clapton Steve Cropper Otis Rush Rory Gallagher Billy Gibbons
Prince is one of the best musicians of all time, could sing, write, was a world class guitar player and could play several other instruments. I can't believe Diane said she never heard a Prince song in it's entirety but then i remembered she's a lot younger then me.
This clip was shot at a real club to be used in the movie Purple Rain, real crowd with few extras (if I remember right). That whole album was/is amazing. Prince was one of a kind a true gift to this world imo. Oh yeah, I think this was done in one take because it was live.
Yes, it was filmed on a different night than when it was recorded. He did a benefit concert for a dance company at First Ave. I was there and it is an epic memory. First time he performed Purple Rain, including the third verse which was never used again. th-cam.com/video/frbVVDAyJ1w/w-d-xo.html
@@edsmarkFortunate you!!! I assume you knew the original concert in full (and an edited video of PR by itself) is on YT - at least it was... hoping it's not taken down.
Prince has so many bangers. It's such a great song. Loved your reaction on this one. It caught you by surprise in places, which was fun. So glad you loved it!
Prince was such a great genius. So creative. How many entertainers can take a slow song and make everyone stand up and move? I miss him coming up with new music.
As a GenXer, Prince's music has been part of my consciousness since about 3rd grade (age 9 or 10). He wrote all of his own songs and wrote songs for many other singers. He also played all of most of the instruments for recording his albums
Purple Rain is amazing - I saw it in theatres. I remember having to lie about my age to get in, because I was only 15 and you needed to be 17 to get into rated R movies! Powerful, but not a musical in the sense you're thinking. The music is all on stage or studio, not random people starting to sing. Each 'musical number' is a performance in the narrative of the movie. Prince was SO talented. Hundreds, maybe thousands of songs. He helped lots of artists make their start, including Sinéad O'Connor. He wrote the song that made her famous, Nothing Compares 2 U.
Happy Friday Diane! Prince was a great musician and entertainer. One of his best videos is where he's on a tribute to George Harrison, with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and some others. He has a magical guitar solo. Have a great weekend!
Yes, that tribute is an amazing video. Where, oh where, did that guitar go when Prince threw it into the air? Even Tom Petty said he didn't know what happened to it and he was right there on the stage.
@chicken2jail That performance occured at the induction ceremony for the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame when he performed on the song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". There's never been a better public performance of that track, probably ever.
Thanks for listening. I've been a huge Prince fan since 1982. This is one of his more mellow songs. To see what he's all about, try "Kiss", "Little Red Covette", "1999" or "Let's Go Crazy". This man is epic
There are so many artists he wrote for and collaborated with and that's worth checking out as well! As for his symbol, that's top shelf Minnesota passive aggressive. Purple Rain is such an iconic song and it always evokes some emotion when I hear it. Prince playing in the Rock and Roll HOF tribute for George Harrison "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is another powerful performance.
His Super Bow performance of this song while it was pouring rain is one of the most iconic performances ever. When told it was raining, Prince just said, “Yes, it’s raining. Can you make it rain harder?” Legend!
I love seeing someone discover the magic of Prince. He was a musical genius and such a charismatic performer. He was an artist who really defined my early 20s and I never stopped listening to his music. My heart was broken when I heard he had passed away.
Prince was a modern Mozart. And he was probably one of the nicest musicians ever. There are many stories of him showing up in studio to jam with other artists and would end up putting down tracks on their songs completely uncredited. I'm convinced there are hundreds of amazing songs sitting in his music vault that we will never hear. So sad to have lost a generational talent like Prince.
Prince wrote a huge number of songs. Supposedly he left behind a big trove of unpublished music when he died. He wrote a lot of songs for other artists, including Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead O'Connor, Sugar Walls by Sheena Easton, You're My Love by Kenny Rogers, Manic Monday by The Bangles, With This Tear by Celine Dion, Why Should I Love You? by Kate Bush, and I Feel for You (originally written for Patrice Rushen but made famous by Chaka Khan). There's a story that someone once asked Eric Clapton how it felt to be the world's best guitarist, and he replied, "I don't know. Ask Prince." It's not true. Too bad, as it's a great story. In any case, Prince really was a great guitarist, as well as a great songwriter and singer.
The best all round musician of all time. He wrote it all, played it all & produced it. He did it over decades in multiple genres & gave other artists their biggest hits to. A genius.
Prince was a true music prodigy, not only did he master all the instruments he also was a master sound engineer and producer not to mention a proficient song writer and a great performer.
He didn't master all instruments. He could play 24 - 27 instruments. He could not play any horns (sax , trumpet , trombone , etc.). Even so incredibly talented and i was lucky enough to see him live twice. The second time i had 4th row center stage seats. I don't there will ever be another artist his caliber.
Prince is still one of my artists to this day, everything about him was incredible. Still makes me 😢 that he passed away because I wish he was still here.
Thanks for the reaction video. Prince is the greatest and most complete musician & artist of all time. You should do more Prince reactions, he is music personified and really could do it all. O(+>
I went to two of them on the same tour and one aftershow at one of those. It was great - and stuck with me to the point that I had to write the setlist down for all of them when I got home.
Was fortunate to see him 2 nights in a row during his mini residence in London back in 2007. The gigs were both different as he said code words on the fly to 200 songs and lasted roughly 2h45.
He didn’t call himself the artist formally known as prince. The media gave him that name because they needed something to call him. So that’s what they chose. Until he gave them a disk that had the symbol on it so they could talk about him in the papers using the love symbol.
This is from the musical Purplr Rain, filmed in Minneapolis (where I live). A lot of my friends were either in the film or worked on it. Good choice, Diane. You should also check out his Super Bowl Half-time performance of this same song - during pouring rain!
@@thorfinsky1427 I was using Diane's words to refer to the film. I also called it a film. There is a lot of music in the film that tells the story but make your point about why it's not a musical.
Prince never called himself "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince". He didn't call himself anything verbally. The symbol which he changed his name to was unprounceable, and he and everyone who worked for him and knew him socially strictly stuck to that rule. All other designations, including the aforementioned, often shortened to "The Artist", were inventions of the media. This also includes British variations, like TAFKAP, often shortened to "Taffy". In his famous interview with Oprah Winfrey, he was asked what his employees called him. He replied, with a smile and a shrug, "Well, I get called 'Sir' a lot. Never got that before."
Loving your journey of musical discovery! Prince is a fascinating artist, not just musically, but in his always compelling visual presentation. This emphasis on image, I think, was an important component for an artist in the 80s as MTV was such a useful and powerful tool. Particularly for visionary artists like Prince, Madonna, Eurythmics, etc who immediately understood how to use music videos to create an entire world for their music to inhabit.
Definitely listen to way more of his music. Prince was an absolute genius musician and yes purple rain was a huge hit back then but I think he made so many even greater songs. Sign 'o the times for example is one of my favorites but I also really like the less known more funky stuff. He was the best live artist I have ever seen on multiple occasions.
I love when a group produces two versions of a song, the clean broadcast one and the rude often filthy live one. The Beautiful South often had two of some songs, hilarious when a DJ played the wrong one on the radio and had a comfort break as it played, the show producer having kittens and fending off the calls.
He was not being passive aggressive. The record label stole his name and trademarked it. He didn't have legal rights to use his name. That is why he used the symbol and was "the artist formerly known as". He had to go to court to have the legal right to his name. The corporation was scum.
Prince was an incredible musician, hugely talented with several instruments. There's an apocryphal story that a journalist asked Eric Clapton, "What's it like to be the world's best guitarist?" to which he replied, "I don't know, you'll have to ask Prince."
I think you're getting that confused with another story. What I always heard was that it was Jimi Hendrix who was asked "How does it feel to be the best guitar player in the world?" and he said, "I don't know, go ask Rory Gallagher."
I wasn't a big Prince fan during the 80's, but I've come to appreciate him more over the years. Of all the things you can say about him, I'd say creativity and passion are two of the biggest illustrated in this song.
this man was vastly talented. like even more talented than i think people give him credit for. the guy wrote his own hits as well as hits for several other artists. people tend to sleep on his abilities as a guitar player and see him as a pop star from the 80's, but the purple one was quite capable of shredding a face or two as the need arose. one of my favorite performances of his was at george harrison's induction into the rock and roll hall of fame. he and several other legends in the music world did a version of "while my guitar gently weeps" that will have you weeping right along with said guitars. do NOT watch this video yet, watch a few other prince videos and charlie murphy's true hollywood stories from the dave chappelle show where he talks about hanging out with prince..... once you have all that context, then watch his performance at the induction. it'll blow your mind.
@@LindaC616 Jimmy Fallon also hosted a tribute edition of Saturday Night Live after Prince left this world instead of the rerun of a show from earlier during the season they compiled a hour and a half of his various Saturday Night Live performances going back to the first after his third album "Dirty Mind".
That was the one I was hoping she would do. But I imagine there were plenty of people suggesting a number of his songs. As good as _"Purple Rain"_ is, I was really hoping for anything else by him.
It's always a treat to see reactions from people who may have heard of Prince, but have never listened to his music or seen him perform. Thanks for sharing this!
Prince was and always will be iconic. He was larger than life and all of his music was extraordinary. He wrote MANY huge hits for many artists. He wrote, " Nothing compares to you", sung by Sinead O'Conner, "Umbrella", sung by Rhianna. There are way too many to mention. He lived in Minneapolis Minnesota and this movie was made there. You must see the movie and get the album. Prince was one of my all time favorites. The day he passed nearly destroyed me. Such a legend, gone too soon. His legacy lives on. ❤
@@glennelfmann3143 To quote Bob Dylan, "Prince is like Judy Garland. They're both from Minneapolis." Dylan himself is a Minnesotan, so that may have something to do with the quote.
@@bigscarysteve I'm from Minnesota, southern suburb of Minneapolis, Chanhassen isn't that far from me. I can see that quote applying to Prince but Judy Garland and Bob Dylan were both born about 2 hours north of Minneapolis, so not so much for them. They all are from Minnesota so I guess should just leave it at that.
@@glennelfmann3143 I realize paisley park isn't in Minneapolis but First Ave and many of the venues he played at are. Just saying he was a MN man who I believe was raised in Minneapolis? I could ve wrong, either way, he's iconic. He's written so many good songs for other artists that were huge hits. I was lucky enough to see him in concert and he did not disappoint. I grew up in the 70's and 80's so Prince and his music were the soundtrack of my teen years and school years. His songs always bring back fond memories. Another interesting piece of history. My ex boyfriend's brother who lives in Minneapolis now and has for years was an extra in Purple Rain. ❤️ His halftime performance during super bowl XLI was one of the greatest ever.
It's mind-blowing to think of you never having heard anything by Prince, then starting with Purple Rain. It's like knowing nothing about Renaissance art and walking into the Sistine Chapel, or starting out a classical music education with Beethoven's 5th. Purple Rain is probably the high point of his career, one of the most powerful, beautiful pieces of rock music ever. It's great to see you react to it.
Treading on hallowed ground here! Prince fans are one of a kind - fiercely loyal and very fanatical! Enjoy exploring the huge musical world of Prince. It can't be done with one song! Try the first track from his first album - For You. You wont have heard a sound like it! And take it from there!
One of the most beautiful, reaffirming faith in humanity moments i have experienced was.. shortly after he died there was an impromptu memorial outside the "first avenue night club" in Minneapolis. thousands if not tens of thousands of people from all over the world, showed up and grieved and celebrated this man together it turned into a giant sing along. Probably the last time Minneapolis was a great (or safe) place to go.
I really like to watch people being mindblowed by his talent, as it occurred to me almost by chance. Growing up during the eighties, I knew and liked his most aired hits. But I remind the media portraying him generally as " that other guy from the charts, who has a bunch of higly danceable songs and a cute face", or " the talented but eccentric popstar with provocative lyrics and stage antics" making it seem like he was half crazy. The general idea was that he was not to be taken too seriously. Almost never did they mention his real musical abilities. When I really started to listen to him (much too late) it was, I dare to say, life changing. I discovered an artist who had all, absolutely everything that I love: talented, personnality, expressivity, passion for music, incredible contact with the public, butt-kicking piano, guitar and bass skills, humour, depth, and was incredibly sharp minded... Not to forget, he was an unusually but really fine man, who, on top of this, went more and more charming as he grew older ( well, he aged like fine cognac, and was still as gorgeous in his 50 as he was in his 20 ) So, despite the fact it's the most well known, I hope this appetizer of a song gave you the will to taste more. It would be a pity to stick to the most well known hits, he has much more to offer. To me the real gems are actually NOT the hits. Especilly his piano skills which are wonderful, but hidden in the mix, and shine on more confidential songs. If you continue to listen, you're in for a lifetime of discoveries and amazement.
Like Diane, I’ve never actually listened to this song, & I’ve never really appreciated Prince’s talent, I’d definitely like to dive into more of his work thanks to this video.
It's truly a joy to see your generation (embodied in you!) discovering this stuff for the first time. I'm an old guy, and remember the Prince vs. Michael Jackson rivalry very well, from the 80s.Jackson was excellent at performing certain songs that were written for him, but Prince was a genius. He was a truly great guitarist, on the level of Eric Clapton or B.B. King, and he was the most sensational PERFORMER since Elvis Presley. He could do it all.
That's exactly right. Jackson was good at performing songs and dance moves that somebody else had dreamed up, but he never created anything by himself. Prince was, in terms of music and performance, a genius, and the only performer since Elvis who could so completely command an audience. He was brilliant.
I have been to hundreds of concerts from Prince to Pavarotti and Prince was just the ultimate showman even though I’m 74 now this still makes my eyes moist
80's Minnesota boy here.... I wish I would have appreciated Price more back in the day... I took out local boy for granted... Glad that he always stayed true to his roots, stayed in MN and was an amazing talent.... I had 3 of my friends in the audience for the performance... it was par tof the movie, BUT, it was done live.... he was amazing... good reaction.... on a side note, and this is not meant to be rude.... but please either decide to do a reaction or decide to use your phone... that was not only disrespectful to a true legend, but you missed about 30% of the video, with what an artistic person Prince was... every second made you feel the song even more.... You ever get to MN, his home Paisley Park in Chanhassen is worth the tour.... designed for and around music and being able to help others in the craft... glad you enjoyed....

Purple Rain is my all time favorite movie soundtrack, and easily one of the best selling. My favorite track (and favorite Prince song) is When Doves Cry. Growing up, I thought Purple Rain was the tears from someone wearing purple mascara (l think that was on an album cover at one point), but it doesn't fully fit the metaphor for the entire song. Glad you enjoyed it.
Prince was not only a great singer and songwriter, but also a gifted performer on multiple instruments. For a good example of his guitar prowess check out the video of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” from The Concert for George (Harrison). Prince joins a group of guitarists for this performance, but his solo is the finale.

My band in the mid-90's played Purple Rain as our closing song for about a year or so. No keyboards, just guitars. Brought the roof down almost every time. It's perfection.

His ability on the guitar was just as amazing as his song writing and vocals. He seems to get left off the list of best guitarists too often.
Jimi Hendrix was asked what guitar player he admired. He said Billy Gibbons. Billy was asked what it’s like to be the best guitar player in the world. Billy said I don’t know go ask Prince.
His skills on the keyboard were possibly better than on guitar.
@@nanawalks Jimi's favorite was Rory Gallagher. Prince's favorite was Carlos Santana.
After one performance Jimi Hendrix was interviewed and asked how it felt to be the best rock guitar player . He said " Ask Terry Kath " . Terry Kath was the guitarist for Chicago until he accidentally shot himself in the head with a supposedly unloaded handgun .

Also Sinead O'Connor's hit "Nothing compares to you" was written by Prince. Man was musical talent personified.
The Purple Rain soundtrack won the Oscar that year.
Prince is one of the best musicians of all time, could sing, write, was a world class guitar player and could play several other instruments. I can't believe Diane said she never heard a Prince song in it's entirety but then i remembered she's a lot younger then me.
"several"?.....so disrespectful.
This clip was shot at a real club to be used in the movie Purple Rain, real crowd with few extras (if I remember right). That whole album was/is amazing. Prince was one of a kind a true gift to this world imo. Oh yeah, I think this was done in one take because it was live.
It was filmed at First Avenue. I'm not sure how many takes it took, but you could definitely tell it was live.
That’s cool!
Diane: “so much emotion”.
That’s the genius of Prince. He can make you feel everything with that guitar.
Love him or hate him you can't deny that Prince was an incredible musician. I loved him.
Prince wrote Manic Monday for the Bangles, more 80s jam ❤

Prince Rogers Nelson (8/7/1958-4/21/2016 one of the greats a singer, songwriter, annd record producer. When home too soon.
Happy Friday Diane! Prince was a great musician and entertainer. One of his best videos is where he's on a tribute to George Harrison, with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and some others. He has a magical guitar solo. Have a great weekend!
Thankee good info! You too
Yes, that tribute is an amazing video.
One of the best concerts I ever attended. He was a showman, incredible!
Agree, Got to see him at the OMNI arena in the early 80s in the "love Sexy" tour. Best I EVER saw. Incredible showmanship!
He changed his name in protest to Sony Records which owned the rights to his masters. Prince was ver protective of his music
I never knew that!
ah, came here for this. Our favorite Diane, you've heard "Nothing Compares 2 U". So, yeah.
Sugar Walls was a turning point in Sheena Eastons career. It is not subtle.
Nothing Compares 2 U wasn't written for her. It was written for his group The Family and released by them years before she ever heard the track.
Manic Monday was written for Vanity 6, but given to the Bangles instead. 😊
I Love how she checked her phone or something in the middle of prince performance at 5:30. That makes her emotions so real
My favorite Prince Song is Little Red Corvette. I love it when that song is on the radio.
A musical prodigy, the mold was broken with absolute genius.
Deeply missed.
He left us with an extensive catalog of musical bliss.
I kinda wish that you would have played Prince's Super Bowl Halftime show. OMG! It was amazing! Especially Purple Rain.
How incredible to be able to hear this great work for the first time.
Prince was never a favourite artist of mine, but you can't deny his huge talent as a musician! Thanks Diane for all that you do, really appreciate it!
Yes
This is the short version. The album version is an 8 minute edit of an 11 minute live version. In concert he would do a 20 minute version.
I was disappointed to not have had the chance to see him in concert. I've heard his shows were outstanding.
Most were. The one I went to was just ok. It was very short(less than 90 minutes long). Disappointed because I heard he had long, epic 2.5 hr shows
I went to two of them on the same tour and one aftershow at one of those.
Grease is a musical. Little shop of horrors is a musical. Cats is a musical. West Side Story is a musical. Purple Rain is NOT a musical. 🙄
@@thorfinsky1427 I was using Diane's words to refer to the film. I also called it a film. There is a lot of music in the film that tells the story but make your point about why it's not a musical.

Amazing songwriter. Great guitarist. A legend. RIP Prince.
He had an amazing vocal range, even larger than mine! LOL so much fun to listen to this again!
Yeah if "several" = at least 27.
@@dereknolin5986 And there's an oft repeated story that Hendrix considered Terry Kath from Chicago the best guitarist.
I wasn't a big Prince fan during the 80's, but I've come to appreciate him more over the years. Of all the things you can say about him, I'd say creativity and passion are two of the biggest illustrated in this song.
A truly amazing artist that wrote and played all of the instruments on his first album. Sad that he was taken from this World so early!
this man was vastly talented. like even more talented than i think people give him credit for. the guy wrote his own hits as well as hits for several other artists. people tend to sleep on his abilities as a guitar player and see him as a pop star from the 80's, but the purple one was quite capable of shredding a face or two as the need arose. one of my favorite performances of his was at george harrison's induction into the rock and roll hall of fame. he and several other legends in the music world did a version of "while my guitar gently weeps" that will have you weeping right along with said guitars. do NOT watch this video yet, watch a few other prince videos and charlie murphy's true hollywood stories from the dave chappelle show where he talks about hanging out with prince..... once you have all that context, then watch his performance at the induction. it'll blow your mind.
7:56 I always heard Prince was insanely talented, but wow he can tear up the guitar😮
His playing on the While My Guitar Gently Weeps tribute to George Harrison show's why he's in the top 100
@@chrisjarvis2287 The way he just tosses his guitar up in the air and struts off after the performance is the perfect Prince thing to do.

Actually his home "Paisley Park" is in Chanhassen, MN, about 20 miles from Minneapolis.
I knew about Sinead O'Conner but not about Rhianna. You learn something new everyday.
@@glennelfmann3143 To quote Bob Dylan, "Prince is like Judy Garland. They're both from Minneapolis."
Dylan himself is a Minnesotan, so that may have something to do with the quote.
@@bigscarysteve I'm from Minnesota, southern suburb of Minneapolis, Chanhassen isn't that far from me. I can see that quote applying to Prince but Judy Garland and Bob Dylan were both born about 2 hours north of Minneapolis, so not so much for them. ❤️
His halftime performance during super bowl XLI was one of the greatest ever.
Chick is looking at her phone and NOT looking at PRINCE. I'm OUT.
Treading on hallowed ground here! Prince fans are one of a kind - fiercely loyal and very fanatical! Enjoy exploring the huge musical world of Prince. It can't be done with one song! Try the first track from his first album - For You. You wont have heard a sound like it! And take it from there!
she acting like she don't know anything, LOL
Not to forget, he was an unusually but really fine man, who, on top of this, went more and more charming as he grew older ( well, he aged like fine cognac, and was still as gorgeous in his 50 as he was in his 20 )
So, despite the fact it's the most well known, I hope this appetizer of a song gave you the will to taste more.
Congratulations on discovering this LEGEND. I highly recommend that you watch the Prince Superbowl halftime show
One of the greatest artists of the modern era, so far ahead of his time that we sometimes found it difficult to keep up. Thanks for your reaction.
Like Diane, I’ve never actually listened to this song, & I’ve never really appreciated Prince’s talent, I’d definitely like to dive into more of his work thanks to this video.
YOU'VE GOT TO WATCH THIS MOVIE!
Thank you so much for reacting to it Diane!
Prince : His Royal Badness

The movie is Purple Rain. The album of the same name is the soundtrack, well Prince's music. The movie also had music by Morris Day and The Time,Dez Dickerson(who used to play guitar for Prince), and Appalonia 6. Here's something that may blow your mind. The first 4 albums he released,For You(1978),Prince(1979),Dirty Mind(1980l and Controversy(1981) he wrote all the songs, played all the instruments(with the exception of 1 song and some instruments on Controversy) and produced them. The Revolution(the band he played with) didn't really become The Revolution until the album 1999(1982). The man was a musical genius. He also did the soundtrack for the Michael Keaton Batman movie. His discography has 40 albums. I don't know if you're familiar with the song Nothing Compares 2 U released by Sinead O'Connor. Prince wrote that. He also wrote Manic Monday by The Bangles.

Damn this made me wanna cry . My mom is/was a HUGE fan so I grew up with his music 😢. Long Live him 💜💜💜💜💜
Prince was not only a great singer and songwriter, but also a gifted performer on multiple instruments. For a good example of his guitar prowess check out the video of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” from The Concert for George (Harrison). Prince joins a group of guitarists for this performance, but his solo is the finale.
As a 66 year-old American who's wife was a school teacher in Dublin, you hold a special place in my heart. ( And yes, she IS aware of my little crush on you) We would really appreciate hearing you react to ABBA. Thanks!

I love watching you with your gaze of innocence and sincere interest in what you're watching. You seem to be a very honest person and of course, very beautiful. Keep up the good work.
THE MOST underrated guitarist of all time.... Truly one of the greatest
My band in the mid-90's played Purple Rain as our closing song for about a year or so. No keyboards, just guitars. Brought the roof down almost every time. It's perfection.
prince could play EVERY instrument ( guitar,bass,keyboards,drums,saxophone)..super talented man, he always strove for excellence in everything he did
I had the honor of seeing him on the Musicology Tour.. I am old school Classic Rock Heavy Metal and that man put on one of the best show I had seen in my life, 3hrs in the Round in NY on Long Island... He is the only Cat that I know, Who could get away with wearing High Heel Boots, Wear Lace & Fringes who OWNED the Color Purple and could walk into any Club anywhere and walk out with any mans woman! Respect! RIP Prince!
I like that you don’t stop the song in the middle and insert commentary, and that you listen through to the end, unlike some other reactioners. Great video!

I always wondered as a kid in the 80s what exactly he met by purple rain , it took a long time but I finally figured it out , it just means that you want to see that person living their best life in happiness , being a completely fulfilled person .
