    I had the same problem on my Tiger. The former owner had forgot to bend the locking spacer. When I tightened that up and bent the thing it was ok. This is in fact better construction than the one in my Honda that can get loose by its own. Never had the problem in Tiger ever since even I went thru many sets of chains.

    Hi , i know this video is 6 years old..just wanted to check the symptoms to know if the same with my bike... when i accelerate on from get go, it cluncks and feels like there are some gears slipping on each other...however as i accelerate and go faster, its disappears.. it re appears as i brake and start again..there is no loss of power or so... does this mean that its just loose like in video or is my front sprocket gone.. I do burst acceleration as i live in India in Bumper to Bumber traffic and this issue just started..

    • @eameader
      @eameader 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This sounds just like my problem. I have a '15 Bonneville and this happened (the first time) while I was on a long-distance trip. I could not figure out what the sound was. Took it to the local dealer service shop and they fixed it with a chain adjustment they said.
      A year later, I'm getting the same issue, but louder and more prevalent. Snow's about to fly here in Maine, so I'm going to put it away soon. I took off all the guards and adjusted the chain last week. Made no difference. maybe it's that splined shaft?

    • @akshaypai1602
      @akshaypai1602 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@eameader thanks for your input..You are right. It's not just the chain that needed adjustment but also the rear sprocket had undergone one sided wear (had clocked 30000kms on stock sprockets from the delivery).. so the chain would hop around the swing arm or sprocket.. I replaced the sprocke, adjusted the slack at ASC and ensured I lubricated every 500kms.. the noise is gone.

    Once my ttr 230 was clunking when I'd take off and it turns out every bolt on the rear sprocket was loose. It actually lost one of them. I suppose if your chain is loose, it could clunk too. I'm hearing a little clunking on my new hawk 250 and have yet to check the sprockets.

  • @chris-ip4pk

      I mean, i know it should not be done. But the question about torque i don't think it's that way. If your bike produces 70Nm, you must have in account your gear ratio to stablish the torque in the shaft. Let's say you have 70Nm and in 1st gear a ratio of 2.5, just as an example, the shaft must handle at least 175Nm.

      It's me. I've got a Honda CB 1100 2013 bought brand new I'm at 23,000 miles. I was hearing and abrasive sound when taking off like a crunching. Powers good acceleration strong. I took of cover for front chain spoocket and had alot of built up residue from chain oil and dirt in case and outside of small sprocket. Took my time sprayed with chain cleaner removed build up gunk with paper towels and Q tips. Put back together all good resolved issue no abrasive sound smooth etc. Take off your front chain sprocket cover to see if that area is clean or dirty ?

      @@michaelvinson5481 Hi, it was the chain for me. It had a blocked link because it was old and has not been mentioned properly. You can clean it with a motorcycle chain brush, its an U shaped brush that reaches around the Orings. You can use water or diesel to clean it and then wipe it dry and use gear oil (75w80 or something thick) to lube it.
      That's what chain manufacturers recommend and that's what works.

    I get a clunk on my cbr 650f when in first gear and I relise the clutch just creeping forward in first gear but it's strange becauce it only does it 3 times out of 6 attempts. I have changed chain and sprockets and also cush drive rubbers in the hub and it still does it. I mean the clunk isn't that load but It will do it when riding sometimes when I drop into gears or soemtimes going up the box when I relise clutch . It's not very bad but I'm just dieing to know exactly what it is and I hope it's not going get worse can you help please?

    • @YeetxBoi
      @YeetxBoi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @NuffNuff the clutch creep is a need of slack adjustment, whether at the clutch pack or the cable adjustment. The other issue he's talking about is similar to what I'm getting on my nighthawk 250

      Exactly same issue on my yamaha FZ s 150. It makes noise during accelerating after shifting of gear but only when the engine is warm after running few kms. Couldn't find what could be the reason. The chain and sprocket are tight still.

    My yamaha dt 125 is making a bad noise when shifting into 1st gear
    Especially when i do it fast and with high rpm
    What could it be

    • @pauld.b7129

      Shifting into first while your going faster isn't great. Unless your almost stopped, stay in second. Most bikes will knock into first if your going fast.

    Took my bike out to the river and it was having a tough time getting through the sand so I had to keep it at high rpms well that was the mistake I made it is a 14 tooth sprocket and the sand ate off 5 of them and rode my bike around about 6 months after and kept hear a ugly pulling noise so any one reading this that could be your problem too

    • @How2Wrench
      @How2Wrench  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you may have had a poorly made sprocket too...The sand alone would take quite some time to cause the damage and would most likely "equally ruin" all the teeth with wear vs. breakage. Another thing to look for is miss-aligned chain. The extra side force will cause the weakest teeth to break off first...
