When thinking about making a significant purchase like a truck camper, there are many factors to consider. With so many new and exciting innovations coming from lots of small companies to try and satisfy the thirst of the consumer for adventure... Its easy to get overwhelmed and miss the forest from the trees (no pun intended).
So I am putting my honest review of all the features and reasons why I went with the SuperPacific X1. I have lived with the X1 for over 2 months so far and I think I can speak to its practicality and overall value.
I hope this video answers any questions you may have but if not, please feel free to ask away in the comment section. Bear in mind that there is so much to discuss here I actually had to cut out lots of other footage that was less valuable... and still the video is about 30 mins long. Either way, enjoy!

Yeah... these days there are long lead times with everything worth getting. its the new world we live in.
In retrospec the lead time on these is dramatically less then most other options.

I love this review, I have the decked system and like you I have my dogs that will sleep right off the decked platform. I like how kept the Prinsu Rack considering you drilled into the Truck cab.. and how you ran the solar. I'm running the Jackery as well, but I think I'll go with the Bluetti AC300 X B300. Man the options are endless with the camper - 23Zero 270 degree awning, with side walls.....

Correct. The SuperPacific doesn’t have the roll cage that GFC does. It’s slightly heavier I think… but not noticeable on the truck

I got on with the start up build. I have been in touch with Spencer since last September. We tossed ideas back and for with what I thought would be great additions to the x1. They are great guys over at Super Pacific. I give them a lot of credit for starting this company and no less dealing with a pandemic. I have owned 5th wheel toy haulers diesel pushers, that the build quality had a lot to be desired. this camper will out last several trucks!

@@PointShiftDrive I just noticed you have the Decked system , that's what I have now. I took out my cargo slide that i had my snowmaster 66 lp on. I like the Decked but they give up a lot of room as opposed to building your own draws. I mounted a Clearview fridge slide on the Decked system. I built a battery box form my solar and DC to DC charger. I have switched from gel to a 170 amp hour lithium iron phosphate for the x1, just waiting for the x1 to get here so I can mount everything on the front of the cab. Hopefully the top rails will handle a 270 xt awning.
I would like to see them make a removable screen door for the back hatch and maybe the sides too. Would be nice for airflow and keeping bugs out

Great walk through. I have the same camper from the vid on order, its great to see a tall guy and how you fit. Do you get much condensation?
I haven’t experienced any condensation yet.
Wish they found a way to make the glass window behind the cab retractable - would miss using that in the 'Yotas Nice setup!
I think they are trying their best to keep costs down is all.

What roof rack do you have, there? Under the tent in the front? Also, you said you have a mobile charger, Jack-ere, I think. Is your power system built around that? Do you have it zest up such that while you’re driving, your car can charge up the Jack-ere battery? Then, do all of your electric equipment items get charged from the Jack-ere? Also, Can you mount shovel and acts outside somewhere? It looks like the “wind-doors” Would prevent that from being possible.Thanks.
I’m just homeless until I get the tent on my truck. I’m building the backseat into a dog bed and storage. I need as much space in the back back for guitars, saxophone, and amps and other gig stuff, clothes, heater, and a fridge. Storage in the backseat for tools, recovery gear, and yoga stuff. Gonna be interesting travel and living/working from a truck

How much does your X1 camper weigh? I also have a Toyota Tacoma and would like to keep the weight of the camper as low as possible. I’m also looking at the Ovrlnd topper. It weighs 265 pounds and is a full pop up tent. When camping in cold weather how much condensation is there and where is it forming? What would you change or add to the camper?

Check with SP but I think the X1 weighs more like 350lbs. So if lightness is what you are looking for, this one might not be it.

Is there a simple way to add floor mounted storage against the side walls? I’ve seen goose gear stuff on ALU-CABs.

Not on mine at the time I bought it. However you can add windows by making cut outs.
How dust proof is the Super Pacific? I do a lot of desert and dry fire roads in Cali. It’s between SP and AluCab.
I cant so 100% because I have not been in too many dusty conditions yet. however, I have been pretty surprised of how air tight it is based on washing it. my SP is better sealed than my Leer was.
keep the lights, switch in the tent or a switchpro blue tooth so you can turn lights on off anywhere
My current setup seems to work pretty well. But a switch pro would be cleaner
Are you considering a water system for fresh tank mounting/storage, and heating for showers and cleaning?
Eventually, yes. Right now my kids aren’t old enough to go on a trip longer than 2 days. So not really needed but down the road for sure.

Question: does You camper hit your Prinsu rack while off-roading? It does on mine & I was just wondering.
It has touched before but the truck was pretty twisted on the rocks. And it was barely touching.
What the clearance between the prinsu and the camper?
Can you operate with just the Jackery, like the 1000-2000, as your complete electric power solution? I want to do that. Can you just charge the Jackery from the 12V socket in the back in the camper, while the truck engine is running? I am thinking of having my Dometic fridge in the second row seat, plugged into my truck dashboard cigarette lighter. Once we park for the night, with a charged Jackery battery, I imagine that I can us it to run a space heater through the night. Appreciate your knowledge!!!
And, run the Dometic fridge, through the night, also…in addition to a space heater, OR…use the Jackery to fans, if it is a warmer night. Sorry for all the questions….but you are one of the best sources on TH-cam, as far as I have heard. Thanks for your help!
@@conanfa18 So I have a double batter set up AND a Jackery1000. Plus I also have one solar panel going to the trucks batteries and one going to the Jackery itself. between all that, I can pretty much run anything I throw at it.
I would recommend adding a 100W panel to your jackery and you should be good.

Well to be fair, they said that is in development. also, GFC doesnt have those either. But SP does have some other ideas too depending on your needs. there are also latch extenders so you can just partially leave the doors open to get air too. so more innovation is coming.

I heard you have a SnugTop, currently? I've been gravitating towards the SnugTop XtraVision which is just a Rebel but with larger windows (better window to pillar ratio) and removable side windows. How are you liking your Rebel so far?

Too bad they don't have an East Coast installer/dealer. Not driving to Oregon to get one.
Small company issues for sure. The good news is that as they grow, there could be expansion in their future. well see.
Which rigid solar panel did you choose?
I am running 2 100watt Renogy panels. One is for the batteries and the other keeps my Jackery topped off.

Integrated solar panels into side doors would be slick!
In theory you can make it yourself. There are lots of paper thin panels you can buy and wire up to anything. But it would be amazing if you can get it as an option from the factory. Good idea and thanks for watching!

Pricing was cheaper because I got a launch spec. The price has increased thanks to supply issues and manufacturing challenges.

I don’t think everyone needs insulation. My leer wasn’t insulated and it never bothered me. I think it depends on where you live and where you tend to go. But not having insulation doesn’t make it a “tin can.” This is a pretty well built camper. Maybe you need to see one in person.

They were cheaper pre pandemic. I think supply chain issues and also played a factor in price hikes. Hopefully they come back down in the future

I'm gonna tell you the main problem I see with that metal lip around the rear hatch. People are going to slice their damn foreheads wide open on those things as they enter the truck bed. I hope this camper comes with a first aid kit.
🤣 No no no... not an issue. at least I have never hit it... nor have I heard anyone with an X1 have any issue.
But what I will tell you is that I have also bought a ladder so that I can enter from the side of the tent. actually, more for exiting. in the middle of the night its just easier to climb down a ladder to wizz versus exiting via tail gate.
Either way, I dont think its an issue.

Yeah. Pricing recently went up. But not too much different from competitors. Especially when you factor in shipping or install. GFC would have been about $1000 more at a min.

Pretty sure they both start around 9500, and personally for me the super pacific has a lot more useful features and is quicker/easier to set up and take down
bruh, the project m doesn't even include a mattress. So....the comparison is hard to make. I get the feeling that the build quality on this is far superior to what four wheel camper is offering. Plus, all the m add-on options that would make the two campers closer in utility, are already better on the super pacific, and would make the project m, far more expensive. I will give the project m the nod for the full pop-up space though vs the wedge. also, I am bummed that the s. pacific uses the same mattress size no matter the truck, seems like the 1/2 tons should get a larger mattress.
Almost 10k really is disappointing.

Good review BUT Its way too expensive for what it actually is....I’m sorry but to pay that kind of money for a topper with roof top tent is unnecessary. Rough camping with fuse boxes and phone chargers.....

It’s not translucent but I get what you mean. I actually wrapped mine black to keep the inside darker. I enjoy my sleep 🛌

Pricing has gone up since my review. However, I still think its worth consideration. their resale value on the used market is very high as well. I dont think you will lost much with an SP

mine is about 3inches of clearance. on 2nd gens is waaay less.
