my 2001 ford focus zx3 started making a noise the other day that sounded like certain death for my motor. come to find out it just needed a water pump kit as shown in your video. and thanks to you breaking it down for me, i was able to replace it by myself. thank you!! your video has helped me soo much. thank god i didnt have to pay a mechanic
What kind of noise did the water pump make when it was going bad. I have an 03 and its making a loud ticking noise in the top part of the engine on that side.
Thank you for the video. I just did my first timing belt and water pump on my friends car.. I'm on your video now and so far so good..I just took off the harmonic balancer..I love the very detailed instructions.. I'm so proud of myself so far..
Thank you, this was what I needed to know for the same job - plus I am replacing the head gasket, I wasn't sure if I needed to remove the motor mount and now I know, plus I wanted to see where the aligning marks were. Great video!
Hey bro great information and walk through. Next time try pulling the camera back a little so that the less knowledgeable can see exactly where these parts are. Havent watched the long version yet, so I may be premature with this comment. At any rate thumbs up for sharing bro!
Just had this done on my Focus and wanted to see if the labor was worth it and yeah, feeling a lot better about that bill after seeing what's involved here. But great job to everybody that tackles this on their own.
great video one thing I wanted to mention ford makes a special tool called a camshaft tool that is very important with installing a timing belt if you accidentally move one of the camshafts out of place, upon start up of the car it can cause major engine damage, valves making contact with the piston, and lets just say replacing the engine,it pays to have the right tools for the job.
I don't know much about cars but I've been looking all over the place on TH-cam on how to change the timing belt and what not on a 2003 ford focus. Can you help me out?
I want to put it gentle. but Im a thousand MPH, all the time. that said, I picked ur video from others cuz u stated it was quick!? it was not a run thru but yet not way long, try to omit any thing not pertinent to the exact job, and it cud be correctly put, a quik run thru""... for those of us simply brushing up on process. i thank you for yur video, have a great day.~~ang.ford~~!
For anyone doing this job, ALIGN your TIMING marks before removing the belt, also loosen the crank harmonic balancer bolt before removing the timing bolt These are interference engines, the valves will HIT the pistons and bend the valves if you go wrenching on the balancer bolt, or the turning the cam without turning the crank in unison. Over all not a bad video, just a little out of order.
Hey thanks for the video, I would like to know, with a 2002 Focus with the SPI engine, is it an interference or non-interference engine? I have gotten so much conflicting information about this issue, even from the Parts Department at Ford. Also, do you think the Gates timing belt is adequate for a replacement, as adequate as Ford Motorcraft. Ford recommends a replacement interval of 120,000 miles.
He says u have to have a belt tensioner tool or remove the power steering bolts- bullcrap!!! simply use two box end wrenches to release tension & remove belt CAREFULLY!!!!
My 03 focus dohc zetec Vin 3. timing kit $37 EBAY.tool kit $10-15 amazon prime. MY kit did not come with a new tensioner bolt!!! Also, my #1 can be at tdc in more then one spot! Idk? Please help
Then at the end he says it again! YOU DON'T NEED THE SERPENTINE BELT TOOL TO INSTALL A NEW BELT IF U HAVE BOX END WRENCHES (I USE TWO AT A TIME (IF U KNOW HOW TO CONNECT 2 BOX ENDS TOGETHER FOR EXTRA LEVERAGE, IT'S SIMPLE! MOST IMPORTANTLY, WHAT HE DIDN'T MENTION (SEVERAL THINGS!) U SHOULD 1ST PUT THE MOTOR @ TDC (TOP DEAD CENTER,& MAKE SURE ALL OF YOUR ALIGNMENT MARKS LINE UP! THEN MARK YOUR TIMING BELT IN SEVERAL SPOTS & PUT MARKS ON THE PULLEY IN LINE WITH YOUR MARKS ON BELT SO MARK THE PULLEY & BELT AT THE SAME TIME.WATER PUMP & BELT, CAMS & BELT' ETC! INSTALL HEAD BOLT INTO THE WHOLE THAT LOCKS THE MOTOR IN PLACE B4 REMOVING THE OLD BELT (REFER TO OTHER ZETEC TIMING VIDEO'S) ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK YOUR TIMING MARKS ON MOTOR!!! THERE ARE VERY GOOD TIMING BELT VIDEO ON TH-cam FOR THE ZETEC & SPI FUCUS LOL

Make sure you line up the timing marks before you remove the belt! That way you know one of the pulley’s isn’t 180° out!
Well done!
Exactly what I wanted to see - a quick overview of the project to get a sense of what's involved and how long it'll likely take.
Thanks!!
Like the fact that you clear.. you show and edit what your talking about. appreciate it Thank you

Thanks for the video, it's always nice to see some pics/video of what's happening so you know what to expect
I just bought a focus and appreciate the DIY video help.
👌
Very helpful. Just as well the qualified mechanic is going to do the work.
More involved than i thought.
Fantastic, straight forward & too the point, as all should be
Very helpful, clear, and concise direction. Thanks for the information.

Will Fitz how much h did it cost?
350 for everything at an independent shop in Philadelphia. Might seem high but it's less than a weeks pay I would miss if I couldn't drive to work.
Damn! My Mechanic in LA just quoted me $950! You're lucky! I gotta look around for a better deal.

An unusually good and helpful video, top marks
nice one, short but clear steps,
I don't know much about cars but I've been looking all over the place on TH-cam on how to change the timing belt and what not on a 2003 ford focus. Can you help me out?
nice video it gave me a good idea of what's involved what is the actual time from start to finish everything per say if a mechanic was doing it ?????
I want to put it gentle. but Im a thousand MPH, all the time. that said, I picked ur video from others cuz u stated it was quick!? it was not a run thru but yet not way long, try to omit any thing not pertinent to the exact job, and it cud be correctly put, a quik run thru""... for those of us simply brushing up on process. i thank you for yur video, have a great day.~~ang.ford~~!

Great video. I will try to do it myself.
Very nice video...thanks for doing it!
what size is the bolt on the harmonic balancer
You don’t have to have the belt tool, you can use a wrench on the bolt on pulley from bottom of car pull down
great video you got it down to an art!!!
Great video, very helpful.
Fairly good overview, thanks.
Excellent video, thanks. Just what I needed.
Hello, how long (in hours) was the job to do this please? Thank you. Btw, very nice video

Great job, I'm gonna give it a try
He says u have to have a belt tensioner tool or remove the power steering bolts- bullcrap!!! simply use two box end wrenches to release tension & remove belt CAREFULLY!!!!
I usually align the timing belt gears before removal of the old timing belt
Very nice video. Good job!!!
it was on the screen, I just put it in the description too if you still need it.
Great VDO! Thanks
great video! thanks! i'm mechanically inclined just need to make sure on the dang front wheel drive cars.
Would've been great if you could of put up exactly WHICH model of the Ford Focus this was. (As, amazingly, there is more than one!!)
You're right. I've updated the description. It's a 2000 Focus with a SOHC engine. (NOT ZETEC or ZETA)

Didnt need to touch timing or crank pully on mine

Great to the point.
