Hi Sam, is your original Purge Valve is a Denso? I have the same part as yours however, according to Jaguar we should have the different system with LNC1515AB part...which is completely seems to be a different brackets and system.

    Sam, I have a 98 XJ8 that I can't fill up the gas tank.
There isn't any relief for the vapors to exit with the gas nozzle inserted.
I believe I have the problem tracked down to a plugged up charcoal canister.
I have the manual and there are at least 4 different fuel vent systems that I can see.
Mine has the main inlet, a 1/4" vent line and a 3/4" or metric equal that is plugged.
I spliced in a hose and the canister line is definitely not accepting any flow.
The 1/4'' line is also plugged.
I pulled the tank and don't know how they got it installed with almost no gap between the lines.
Since I can't get the tank out I can't follow the canister line and being not one to tear into something as nice as this car is I am on a mission to pin point exactly where the elusive component is.
If you can help me out with a video or a reply I would be mucho grateful for your efforts.
    Thank you,
    jeff

I had the problem with my 2000 XK8 and the problem turned out to be a solenoid-controlled valve that was stuck closed (called the CANISTER CLOSE VALVE, or sometimes the CCV). But I don't know if the same or equivalent part is on an XJ8 or not. On my car the part number is LJC1525AC and is a bit over $100 (although I was able to remove mine, take it apart to find the problem (the center rod was sticking inside the electrical coil, so I used a Dremel to make the passage slight bigger so it didn't stick anymore, then reinstalled it; could fill my gas tank after that normally).
On my car, the valve is under the car; if you jack up the rear end (specifically the passenger side rear end) and remove the tire (Passenger-side rear), you can see the valve/solenoid up there close to the boxy carbon canister held on by a singe bolt).

I removed my wheel liner, and found 3 boxes in there. Your car has a frame, but just the purge valve. How do I know which of the three is the purge valve?

was wondering if u can help...my xk8 has the ticking noise under the left wheel well and it has started throw misfire codes like crazy hard starts etc but once it gets going it runs very smoothly and strong ..im assuming since i can hear the purge valve that this must be the cause of my misfires and so on any thoughts or confirmations?

Hmmm... what year is your car? If you're getting misfire codes I'm wondering if your timing chain tensioners are about to go. The 2002 and earlier cars had an issue with the timing chain tensioners. They were made of plastic. When they break, which they will do eventually, the valves hit the pistons and the engine is destroyed. Not trying to scare you, but if you haven't had the tensioners replaced on a 2002 or earlier car, you need to have it done right away. The replacement tensioners are metal and they won't break.
Other than that, I have no advice except go to jaguarforums.com, make your way to the x100 forum, and ask the people there for help. The people on jaguarforums know the answer to everything. Seriously.

@@sam1174 it dosnt fight to start like when the chains bad and it actually fights the starter...it dosnt do that!!!!!...rather it just randomly will come on right away but then u feel the missing and it will shut off a few times then run smoothly

@@sam1174 i know that if it was compression it would be opposite it would start ..run smooth....then once hot it would spudder or hesitate or shut off but it dosnt do that ..it only acts funny just after starting then it smooth out like new

Sam. Love your videos. Wonder if you can help. A lot of XK8/XKR owners have a problem with vacuum's being formed in the fuel tank. An ominous thunk occasionally as sides are sucked in. Some people have even have had collapsed tanks. Having seen a lot of your videos you know your XK's inside out. Especially the fuel systems. Any ideas as to what bit of kit we need to change to stop or what we can do to sort this problem? I suspect the air INTAKE into the tank is somewhere you were working in this video. You know your stuff as they say. Any ideas?

You're vids are so helpful! Thank you. I do have a question. My car is a 2003 and I can't find a new purge valve for it. Every listing goes from 96 to 02. What's the deal?

    • @sam1174
      @sam1174  6 ปีที่แล้ว

I just looked on Rock Auto and a couple of other websites. I didn't see it listed. Weird. Go to the Jaguar dealer. I'm sure they have it (or can get it). Or maybe they'll just give you the part number and you can cross reference it to buy a cheaper, aftermarket part.

Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure that's my problem. I get lean condition codes, both banks, and strong smell of gas until the engine warms up. I'll call the dealer.

Sam, when I pump gas it stops multiple times. I have the gas smell too. Do you think this would help?

That sounds like a stuck evaporative emission canister vent solenoid, which is in the back of the car attached to the charcoal canister.
