The trouble is we live in a throw away society and some people are way too affluent. In my youth you would never dream of abandoning something like a tent after a casual night out in the woods.
Someone probably lived there for a while. People that live in houses more than likely own a trashcan too right? Well if your homeless living in the dead middle of the woods where there's no public trash cans, what can ya do. Stop blaming everything on society this isn't something everyone does 😒
I’m not a runner but I really enjoyed this. I think your interest and enthusiasm for the outdoors and life is what transfers to your videos. I could watch you boiling an egg and know you’d make it funny!😊
For 27 years my Peace Officer job extended to removing traces of abandoned "Walmartian" visitation around our town in one of Canada's most popular National Park's. These artifacts consisting of tents, garbage, and fire circles were mostly reported by members of the public. The usual procedure, after ensuring there were no concerns inside, was to remove any anchors to ground or vegetation, and drag the whole works back to our truck. (In our ecosystem, if the tent contains anything that an animal can consume, including human remains, it will be shredded within a week). If it still held any potential value and deemed to not present a health risk, it would get paperwork done, and held in the seizure room. The regulations also gave us the option of disposal, which meant the whole works with the contents still inside, went into a large dumpster in our compound. Rubber gloves and other appropriate PPE aside, due to the risk of encountering sharps or other contaminated objects, it would be uncommon to sort through the contents unless they were linked to an investigation or court proceedings. Of course unoccupied tents found in remote back country locations would receive more attention.
that might be a homeless person's tent.. I'd say, pretty likely actually ... tins of fish.. pretty basic food stuff.. people dont usually take that stuff camping. The only other possibility would be discarded rubbish.. but it wouldnt make a lot of sense ; far easier for a dumper to dump a plastic bag rather than go to the whole trouble of putting up a tent.

I'm from northern Europe, and planted forests in Ireland/Northern Ireland always felt unnatural (duh) to me. They are nice in their own way, and great for recreational purposes, but people from Norway/Finland/Sweden tend to find them a bit unsettling. The uncanny valley effect for forests? During the first forest trip I kept looking over my shoulder like we were in the Blair Witch Project, and my Irish friends found that hilarious. We have active forest industry around here too, but forest management is different. Planting trees in straight rows is not really a thing. That said, I love hiking in the national parks of Ireland and the UK. Thanks for making these videos! 😊
Well, they haven't followed the 'leave no trace' rules. So bloody annoying. Love these running videos, and you can talk as much as you want as far as I'm concerned.
'Leave no trace' is absolutely fine in the middle class, out in the woods for pleasure world. While it's far from right to leave mess behind you in any circumstances, it's a whole different ball game if you happen to be homeless and subsisting. Don't be too 'holier than thou' and quick to judge.
Near the summit of Raven Crag in the lake district end of August, I found a full camp, 2 tents, all the equipment, chairs, bags, mats, bbqs, food and litter everywhere, got pictures of it, it's disgusting what some people are doing these days in the outdoors, obviously wasn't raised outdoors, or principals have seriously slipped !
Try this. Took the grandsons to Newborough beach last Saturday. Getting gear out of the boot and I could smell burning. Somebody had only gone and made an open fire on the grass, freshly cut logs as well, right next to the barbecue area, and buggered off without bothering to put it out! Me and the boys threw water on it and made sure it was out, but FFS some people have no common sense. 🤬
Love your videos, although I have absolutely no intention of running anywhere, but it's great to watch what you're doing, why you're doing it, seeing the scenery, hearing about the area, the history, etc. and you're also funny, keep it up and keep talking 👍
Great video Steven enjoy both channels. Your channels are very natural and are made all the more interesting by your thoughts. You certainly dont talk to much.
Nah you don't talk too much, one of the reasons we watch is we love whatever you "woffle on about". Don't change a thing. PS super creepy tent, there's no way I'd have gone anywhere near that 😅
Funnily enough, I was just talking to my cousin about channels that his friend likes to watch. He finds it dead boring, because there is almost no commentary. I agree with him. I want to learn a little about the places, and the person.
Why would you even approach the tent? And then shake it? Not everyone can afford somewhere to live and that could have been a young scared person inside, or even a dangerous individual hiding out. You need to be more caution, both from a sensitivity point if view, and self preservation.
Yes I thought the same rude, shake my tent.like that and I'd smack you, out of fear, as a woman I'd thump you into next week...plus bad manners offend the hell.out of me
That was great, Stephen! I came over from your main channel. I like that on this channel you just talk about whatever comes to mind, there's doesn't have to be a narrative, although finding that abandoned tent was a dramatic twist.

Thanks Stephen. I think realising my running videos were harming my TH-cam channel was a major disappointment. Killed a lot of the motivation for me. Glad to have somewhere specifically for this more casual type of video.
Have some unadulterated positive engagement! Another great video 👍 Haven't run at Tardree Forest before, will have to give it a go at some point over the winter.
Agree with not wanting places littered (& couldnt see in your video but you seemed pretty icked by whatever was inside) but considering it was a zipped up tent, why did you feel it was okay to possibly disturb someone who may have been sleeping & then unzip the door for a nosey inside?

@@runwithstevetodaycharities across the uk are donated pop-up tents to gift the homeless. The homeless tend to use the tents until they become unliveable due to water leakage and their own mess. Then abandon them and obtain a new tent. Many homeless choose to tuck themselves away in woodlands like the one you’re running in. The tins of tuna also indicate to a homeless person. Also gifted by charities. The abundance of toilet paper leads me to believe the person has been living there. Again, points to homeless
I really hope they are not donating tents like this one as that would be completely unethical. You do get decent popup tents, but these really cheap popup tents wouldn’t last a single night in rain. Unless the charities aren’t aware of the potential issues.
The majority of tent and sleeping bags usually obtained by the charity come from past festivals in the summer, usually left behind by irresponsible event goer. Those tent are usually only efficient for 2 season use. I’m pretty sure the charity aren’t aware or don’t question the lack of waterproofness these tent usually are, just that they have the tent to be able to supply to the individuals just as an attempted effort to try and tackle the problem of hypothermia with them being outdoor. Unfortunately this may be considered unethical but i think they consider the less of two evils. the financial crisis as of late may have hindered their ability to obtain substantial equipment
@@captainmumbles I just hate to think some poor homeless person was given that tent, thought it was going to help, bought supplies and headed to the forest only to have to abandon the tent during heavy rain. Leaving their supplies behind and possibly ending up in a worse situation.

That tent could be a homeless person‘s home though? maybe leave it just in case.
Pretty sure it's not, everything was soaked inside. Those cheap popup tents aren't really waterproof.
Why do people say u talk to much? They do the same to me. It’s dumb, u do u.
