Hey everyone! Part 2 of the Georgian series is out and it's the final one 😁 Next up: Finland 🇫🇮 Don't forget to watch Part 1 first so you're not lost in translation. What other countries do you want to see featured?
Great video, once again Marina. I thought Georgians are Central Asian? But this video looks more they're European of some sort. I know where Georgia is geographically but they seem to be speaking Ruski?? I thought I knew, but I guess I don't? 🤷🏽♀️ I thought one of your other videos did depict Georgians as Central Asian?
I’m considering moving to Georgia in a few years. This made me like Georgia even more because I like how the people are communicating and the general vibe
I had the most amazing time in Georgia 7 years ago, was lucky to meet the right people who were insanely hospitable, you can definently date there. Everyone seem very cold, no smiles like you said but once you get to know them they are super friendly
Well, that's because Georgians don't like to fake their emotions. If you feel neutral to somebody you don't yet not, then you don't fake your smile and draing enerrgies by faking and just express what you feel. Unlike in the West, when everybody seems extremely friendly with their fake smiles but when between two "best friends" one of them needs something from the other they instantly disappear. Or, friends of one night, when someone fakes to being your new friend and next morning "I don't remembe you" hahahah that is the truth my friend. Maybe a Georgian doesn't always smile, but when he/she smiles at you consider him as your new LONG TERM REAL TOP BEST FRIEND, unlike in Europe/the west, where you're my best friend the same moment i meet you by me fake smiles (and your fake smiles also, cuz here everyone faking) and tomorrow when you call me i dont even know who tf you are, or when you ask me for help i dont remember you.. yeah, I incline towards the Georgian "no smile" nature rather than fakes. by your comment I am sure you will understand me. in reality everyone understand this, but somehow westerner societies are funcutoning on fakery, you know this. EMPTY SMILES. OH no, thank you, better dont smile at me rather than fake smile at me.
@@Leilaa, you are spot on! I'm tired of the fakery in America. Fake friends who, as you said, smile all the time but if and when you are in a crisis, they suddenly disappear. smh That's for that commentary on Georgian culture.
To anyone saying "Georgia is just christian dagestan/Arabia", honestly, thanks for undermining 3000+ years of history and culture, these videos you see here will not even give you 1% of understanding of Georgian culture, its unique and has nothing similar on the planet. To really understand it you have to either be Georgian or live for many years here and have a lot of connection between all generations and kinds of Georgians.
Georgia is very hospitable country but when you speak Russian there, when you expect to be hugged & welcomed, don’t forget two wars in two decades the country suffered, thanks to Russia. Every person processes trauma differently and lot of people in Georgia are scarred. Especially the youth - most of them witnessed the war in 2008 & recent events in Ukraine show there is no end to this, so they are re-victimized. I would not judge the speed by which each person processes trauma. There is lot of healing that various generations have to go though in Georgia, thanks to Russia.
That's is correct. I know of someone Ukrainian who recently went to Georgia for a vacation. They are native Russian speakers and they are very pro-Ukraine. To distinguish themselves from the russians due the language they would be using, they were wearing the colors of the Ukrainian flag - blue and yellow as a bracelet. I think that (as well as going there with a Georgian) allowed them to have a pretty positive travel experience. I noticed that Marina's subscriber, Tornike, a Georgian, was wearing the ribbons of Ukraine as well. I do think that the influx of russians has re-traumatized the locals.
Russians are traumatized with all the events terribly as well. It is hard to compare different type of trauma, yes, but in the end everyone is just a person that deserves compassion on a personal level. Connect, feel each other. Circle of violence will stop one day if we stop turning the wheel.
I know two people who went to Georgia and were treated incredibly well. The reason was because they were a "guest" of someone during the course of their entire stay. One person went there with a Georgian life-long friend. So, I think you have to have an "in." But the shopkeepers and sellers were not overly friendly. So, I think your experience is par for the course. Also, I would think that the tensions are high right now due to the influx of people from russia which among other things raised the cost of living for the locals. P.S. This was an eye-opening video because it seems like when it comes to Georgia, YMMV.
There's no tension. Those russians in Georgia have run from Russia because they are against the war and Putin. They found Georgia as shelter. Lots of them actually volunteer in organisations that help Ukrainian refugees. As a russian myself I know what I'm talking about. I came to Georgia right after the war started, the small hotel I lived for 5+ months was full of Ukrainians, Russians, Belarusians and we all got along well. Of course it was very important to reveal your position on this war and wether you support it or not, but after making this clear there were no problems. We became good friends ever since. It's not the passport that makes you a good or bad person, but your deeds and attitude towards other people.
@@Имбирнаяпеченька-ю6ь You want a political response? OK. I believe the Georgians can decide for themselves whether or not there is tension with the "good Russians" and they can voice own point of view. Georgia is a sovereign country which has been continuously occupied by russia for 15 years. Why were the good russian quiet during all of this time? By the way, has Navalny ever apologized for calling them rodents or nah? We also know that many who fled are not against the war. They were perfectly ok with the war In February, March, April, May, June, July, August, most of September so long as someone else was doing the killings. They fled only after the partial mobilization was announced and had the means to save their butt (but who will "save" your country if you all flee en masse? ) and there are many stories of these men removing the "Z" swastika from their cars on the border. And through a very trusted friend, I know how these fleeing Russians acted in Georgia in the fall. Today, I also came across a "for rent" ads for properties owned by Russians in Georgia who exclude Georgians from consideration. But coming from russia, I am sure you are familiar with these ads. A fascinating and enjoyable video. I liked my time in Tbilisi from late June to early July this year (2024). Two things I would like to point out from the video, firstly, although Georgians can be very friendly and engaging, it is a bit of a myth to say that the legendary overwhelming Georgian hospitality is everywhere, maybe in the small towns and villages. Secondly, I found Georgian women very independent and fiery. The impression of Georgia was it was very much a matriarchal society. Georgia had a very European vibe to it I hope to return some day.
The problem is simply that westerners don't understand our mentality. That's why there's always so much misinterpretation of things. Georgia is a country that builds on complexes and in the extreme direction (honor, shame, misfortune, tragedy, motherly love, family cohesion, marriage)
and she says we don't smile. Yeah, that's maybe because we don't like to fake our emotions, unlike Westerners love to do. They smile at your face but then as soon as you try to get deeper in a relationship and connect as humans they completely change their face, because they cannot handle it. they only handle fake smiles, faking they like you and faking they are super friendly, when in reality they don't even care about themselves. who knows will understand me, who doesn't no need for. keep in your nutshell
There are many similarities with my country Egypt. My sister visited Georgia sometime ago and wanted to start a business. She told me that this is the only country where you can find a good wife. That’s according to our culture, as we also in Egypt do not have the concept of dating. In addition, the Christians of Egypt are also Eastern Orthodox like Georgians. I have been living in North America for years and thinking to visit Georgia as a Nomad and open a research Center. I don’t see the behaviour of the Georgians abnormal, it’s an eastern conservative environment.
Thank you for your very informative and well done videos! You have a great way of talking to and interviewing the locals! Fascinating! Really enjoy these videos Marina. Observation - aren't most capital city folk less friendly than the countryside regardless of country? Maybe that contributed to the slightly underwhelming hospitality.
Sincerely I’ll be more welcoming and friendly if u meet me in countryside versus capital. It’s not even about being from capital, u are just more chill outside of city. 😂 if this makes any sense
One cool thing about Georgia I noticed, is that it shows the somewhat unique culutres of the Caucasus are not a product of Islam. A Islamic Georgia would be very similar to somewhere like Dagestan and a Christian Dagestan would be like Gerogia. Very interesting
That's a really cool observation. It kind of reminds me of how South Asians share a lot of cultural mores, norms, and expectations, regardless of whether they're Hindu, Muslim, Sikh etc.
Caucasian cultures are very similar and I bet regardless our religion we can find more common with each other than with someone who just believes in same god. Like Georgians and Russians - same religion, nothing else in common.
Good documentary. At first I did not understand. Then it hit me, I think you might be helping a lot of russian people who are escaping from mobilization in Russia. For those guys, this video is a big help. On the other hand, your videos are improving in quality. Very good.
I know you're doing Europe/Central Asian, but when you get a chance, can you do Phillipines? I absolutely loved ♥️♥️ your "you know you're dating a Filipino MAN when" video. As a Filipina, it's accurate. Lol! A long time in the waiting for me. I've waited years! I appreciate you so much Marina. Thank you!!! While you're in Europe, a Polish series would be good.
Is it just me, or is the generation most desperate to be Western the LEAST friendly? I don't think all that glitters is gold with Western social norms, and this desire to be "European" seems to correlate with being less friendly. I've noticed it myself when I travel.
YES, they moving backwards....... i live in north america, we ain't friendly at all......... we all smile at strangers, but it is not a personal thing, it is like saying hello..... i think every country should stop trying to be 'westernized', and keep their own culture....... western culture ain't that crack up to be, it isn't a utopia of the top of the rank, trust me.
I don’t know what experiences you had but us new generations are as friendly as possible 😁 and I don’t know what type of west u talking abt but most of my experiences in European countries were amazing, and people are nice, just not as overboard as Georgians can be sometimes.
Only if you speak Russian. I speak Georgian to everybody here, and everybody looks *thrilled* and is always super friendly to me. I'm invited to social gatherings multiple times a week, and my GF's friends of all sexes and ages are super friendly and enthusiastic. But I like Georgia the place, I like Georgians the people, and I like Georgian culture. It's as far removed from my PNW/Scandinavian culture as it gets, and finally being in a country surrounded by friendly extroverts is great. You get what you give, in a new place
Georgia isn't THE most hospitable country for sure, But they Are hospitable still. Especially in the countryside. I Also Wonder how the fact you Are Russian affected your journey And friendliness of the people. Old people Are Really nice, But many young And Middle aged people hate Russians cuz of the war in Georgia And Ukraine.
Well, I didn't go around saying I was Russian in stores and as you can probably tell, I speak fluent English (I have lived in Canada since age of 12). I actually thought the older generation was really warm and friendly; it is the younger generation seemed a lot more closed off. Obviously I met so many wonderful young Georgian people, like the people I interview, but service industry and overall vibe wasn't super friendly at times. But you are right - I didn't go to the countryside. I wish I had!
@@DatingBeyondBorders I know what you mean, especially the service. But yes, its different world outside of Tbilisi (And Batumi). People Are smiling And Really make you feel welcomed. We had great experiences during hitchhiking. Not just that people were stopping quite soon, they would invate us for supra, offering drinks, food, cigaretts (once or twice we were offered weed too, lol), even to sleep over. Always making sure we Are OK And giving us numbers in case we would need help. I Always Felt relaxed cuz I knew ppl Will not let you Down. Armenia Is all above, but 2x stronger + it applies to Jerevan too - highly recommended. And their food, coffee And Tea Are the best I ever had. But Georgia has better wine. Iran was even better in hospitality, even through somethimes it Felt little bit more like a politeness or show off While in Armenia it seemed more from the hearth. Sorry for long answer lol, I got into it 😅😅 But someone might be interested And I feel the duty to promote these wonderful Ppl!
@@DatingBeyondBorders The effect of the civil war, harsh economic crisis and collapse of the entire system in the 1990s Georgia is still somehow there in this modern day and age because it wasn't such a long time ago. So, Georgia as a country is still living through the years of PTSD in a way, and there are many many many people whose lives were changed, effected and thrown into totally different kind of reality after the fall of the USSR, and it was basically a "cultural revolution" which ignited some kind of nihilism in society. So, those Georgian salespeople (who, most of them may actually be high-class professionals like doctors or lecturers or whatever... but after collapse of the USSR they had to face the harsh reality which turned their lives upside-down forever) may not give you "smiles", "thank yous" and "welcomes" at stores, but it's not because they dislike you or something... It's just how it is (also, the snippet you showed at last, after mentioning people weren't smiley at the store, looked like an old "bazaar" market - people are gonna be way different in big modern supermarkets and stores) Ironically, so many Russians say how depressive Russia (except Moscow) is and how much more fun Georgia is and how smiley Georgian people are. So strange. I guess everything is conditional.

I enjoyed Georgia - but found the people rude and unpleasant- and constantly trying to rip you off… with the few exceptions of super nice people , but it wasn’t normal - just my opinion
People are becoming less openly hospitable especially in the cities with so many foreigners coming and also modern culture infiltrating a bit. Also, it's not as common to use please and thank you often, like in the US and Canada, but they put a lot of respect and politeness opportunities in other parts of the language. For ex. თქვენ is the form of you that you would use with someone older than you or of higher statues/someone to show respect to, etc.
Can someone please tell me what my experience will most likely be like for a friendly Black American from New York City? I ask because almost all videos about Tbilisi feature almost no Black people in them. And the few Black people I have seen were Africans, not African Americans. Thanks in advance, good people.
Probably not well lol. These eastern european countries are not used to African (Americans). As you can see Georgians don't even like Russians who are light skinned lol
Pregunta para los Georgianos Muchos comentarios dicen que no les agrada mucho el hecho de que hablen Ruso, esto es cierto?, que tanto hubiera cambiado si la chava hubiera empezado la conversacion hablando en Georgiano?
This is why generalization is trash, I can’t relate to most of the things they say and I am very much Georgian. There are as many opinions, perspectives and “realities” as people, cause everyone has it’s own.
I love that in almost every place in the world that I've been (possible exception for many parts of SE Asia), men generally have decided that they will take charge of the meat that's cooked on the fire, and take credit for the full meal that the woman in their life literally did everything else to make possible.
After watching both parts I'll say, notice how the best people were the older generations. They were more romantic, more hospitable, more happy, more fun and more moral Georgia being influenced by western liberalism has decayed their culutre to a noticeable degree. Anything touched by liberalism loses its uniqueness and its charm and just becomes flattened and lifeless
if THEY only know what's going on over here, THEY wouldn't change their culture.... Georgia so desperate to become something else without knowing the real truth, down the road, 50yrs from now....... they really have no idea what they are going to do to their future generations, the decline of culture, and the beginning of decline population due to too much liberalism ideology.

I didn’t see the real Georgia and Georgians. Tbilisi is not Georgia, it is some kind of melting pot of different nations, where there is nothing Georgian left.
Partially he is right. Because of communist past in USSR that mindset of expecting government or someone to look after you and your family without hard work actually exists in Georgia but generalizing that is as stupid as saying that all white people are racist or something like that. Most Georgian men are working as hard as possible to feed their families.
As a Latin American man I can see that unfortunately is not a good place for dating a girl but anyway is one of those destinations I’m looking forward to visit it

One cool thing about Georgia I noticed, is that it shows the somewhat unique culutres of the Caucasus are not a product of Islam. A Islamic Georgia would be very similar to somewhere like Dagestan and a Christian Dagestan would be like Gerogia. Very interesting
Cuz we both are caucasians with different religion.
Happy you liked it! I would LOVE to go to the Philippines -- why does it have to be so far? 😂 But yes, definitely looking to cover more of the world.

It's just how it is (also, the snippet you showed at last, after mentioning people weren't smiley at the store, looked like an old "bazaar" market - people are gonna be way different in big modern supermarkets and stores)
Ironically, so many Russians say how depressive Russia (except Moscow) is and how much more fun Georgia is and how smiley Georgian people are. So strange. I guess everything is conditional.
Well said 👏👏

As someone who don't want to date women in the US, i found this informative as this is where i want to go to eventually marry someone
7:45 "We are the most matriarchal country in the world"

Georgiens tend to exaguate, what they Said about women being in control Is applicable to all countries 😅

Wanted to hear the rest of that conversation about the ‘trash’ in that man’s past😊
Hi! Love your content! I would like to come to Georgia on February and March:) would you suggest it, or would you advise me another destination?:)

Alexandra seems so fun omg she’s also quite funny
That's awesome , Yes I really like Georgia . I made many friends there , like Family
I enjoyed Georgia - but found the people rude and unpleasant- and constantly trying to rip you off… with the few exceptions of super nice people , but it wasn’t normal - just my opinion
so georgian men are like assertive behaving worker bees who are actually just lazy with no real power really. this taught me a lot
Waiting for Estonian episode.
As you can see Georgians don't even like Russians who are light skinned lol
super cool but the view was beatable :p
a few trio mandili's videos locations !

I would be interested to know who is matching this Russian girl on tinder
😂
Pregunta para los Georgianos
Muchos comentarios dicen que no les agrada mucho el hecho de que hablen Ruso, esto es cierto?, que tanto hubiera cambiado si la chava hubiera empezado la conversacion hablando en Georgiano?
20 percent of the territory of Georgia is occupied by Russia, how do you think they should treat those who are from Russia and speak Russian?
This is why generalization is trash, I can’t relate to most of the things they say and I am very much Georgian. There are as many opinions, perspectives and “realities” as people, cause everyone has it’s own.
I would be curious about your reaction if you ever go to Taiwan.
I love that in almost every place in the world that I've been (possible exception for many parts of SE Asia), men generally have decided that they will take charge of the meat that's cooked on the fire, and take credit for the full meal that the woman in their life literally did everything else to make possible.
I realized at the meal that you were communicating in Russian
After watching both parts I'll say, notice how the best people were the older generations. They were more romantic, more hospitable, more happy, more fun and more moral
Georgia being influenced by western liberalism has decayed their culutre to a noticeable degree.
@@kaleeysmith8801 100% correct, they are sadly chasing the lie sold to them by the West
Georgian society is similar to the Arab Christian society
Based on this video yeah, but not in reality lmao
@@lestatdelioncourt5550 The Christian Arab is different from muslims. They only speak Arabic but their culture is different you can check information about Assyrians/Syriac and see
Its similar to Greek
I didn’t see the real Georgia and Georgians. Tbilisi is not Georgia, it is some kind of melting pot of different nations, where there is nothing Georgian left.
🙏🏿
Did I heard right that the Lebanese guy said that the men in Georgia are super lazy?
Partially he is right. Because of communist past in USSR that mindset of expecting government or someone to look after you and your family without hard work actually exists in Georgia but generalizing that is as stupid as saying that all white people are racist or something like that. Most Georgian men are working as hard as possible to feed their families.

As a Latin American man I can see that unfortunately is not a good place for dating a girl but anyway is one of those destinations I’m looking forward to visit it

India and China would probably want to marry them... Both have a huge male to female ratio problem
That sounds even more savage when you put it this way.. Animalistic even. Ugh.

Nope they’re not hospitable at all. At least not compared with Armenians, Turks and Azeris.. no idea where this stereotype came from because from my experience it’s not true at allll
Many Georgians in Tbilisi were unhospitable and rude 🤦🏼♀️ If you don't be kind to foreigners, this country will remain a developing country.
Abkazia and Armenia are very beautiful countries, Armenia much more beautiful than Europe a true heaven on earth.
Okay
