    It’s good to see you make mistakes, learn from you mistakes , and learn how to repair your mistakes. You won’t always have Pablo on hand , so these will be invaluable lessons. 😃🥂

      Thanks David! We’re glad you enjoyed the video. We agree 100% and are trying to learn as much as possible about repairs.

    Oh noooo, the baby got her first scratch! Oh well, at least you got that out of the way with minor damage, relatively easy repair, good learning experience, and as my mom used to say, "It builds character!" :o) On to the Bahamas!

      That’s exactly right Peter! We’re very fortunate and happy to have learned a lot!!

    This is something I need to learn. I can handle all the mechanical stuff, but I have done almost no fiberglass work. Good video showing the process and good work filming & narrating!

    You have become one of my favourite sailing channels. Bummer that you had this happen, but at least you are skilling up.

      That’s a huge compliment, thank you! We feel the same way. We needed to learn to work with fiberglass and epoxy and this was the perfect opportunity. Thanks for watching!

    Fascinating to see the different aspects of this new adventure you're both on. Great tips, Pablo.

    One very distinct benefit of the 1600! If you damage your rudder, you can just pull it out to repair it, instead of having to pay for a haulout! Hopefully the rest of the mechanism wasn't hurt.

    • @HarborsUnknown
      @HarborsUnknown  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! The rest of the mechanism seems to be in tact so overall we were lucky.

    in west marine brand you use can also use micro fibre 403 & filling blend 405 to do minor filling as well

    Pretty cool that the rudder was so easy to remove and fix! Might beat having a skegged rudder, would you say?

    • @HarborsUnknown
      @HarborsUnknown  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We think so! Yes, we definitely think the self floating rudders that are easily removed are more versatile than a skegged rudder. Thanks for watching!

    How delicate the ladder is !
    Fiber glass fixing is very meticulous!
    As you mentioned in the video , if you underrated the importance of fixing, it would be affecting the boat operations.
    I am also surprised that there is a shop for the fiber DIY!

      😊😊 very important to fix stuff on your own!! Thanks for watching and for you comments! 😊😊

    Interesting. Kristin, I think your Dad used to work with epoxy.

    • @HarborsUnknown
      @HarborsUnknown  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, he did work with epoxy. I remember he would often have it stuck to his hands, lol.

    All part of life's rich tapestry! Yaaay, Fabio, itchy dust, yuck. Everyone hits the bottom and the itchy dust is the penance we pay, at least your great boat has lift up rudders and saves a big haulout bill.Think of it as blessing in disguise ,you guys are picking up new skills all the time, money in the bank. Better it have happened close to home with skilled mates around rather than on some god forsaken, far flung reef, next time it happens ( and it will! :) ) you guys can sort it out no worries. Top tip, before grinding, cover your exposed body parts in baby powder,it helps reduce the glass dust sticking to your skin. Keep having fun, I hope the next trip's less stressfull, keep the crabs ducking!:)

      Thanks Fred, you are so correct! The ability to take the rudder out and work on sawhorses made that much easier. Having great friends like Pablo to teach you stuff is fantastic. Lessons learned at every step of the way, the best one: lift the rudders up before you hit bottom so you don’t have to do it after!😂😳
      Thank you for the baby powder tip, great advice, thank you for watching our videos

    Watch out for the bottom fish! So how hard was it removing the ruder?

    • @FlesHBoX
      @FlesHBoX 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rudders on the 1600 are adjustable and can actually be completely removed quite easily.

    • @HarborsUnknown
      @HarborsUnknown  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually it’s easy to remove the rudder but because the pin got jammed we had to use the main halyard to lift it out. Thanks for watching!

      Unlucky on one hand and on the other lucky because we had someone to teach us how to fix it. 😊

    • @HarborsUnknown
      @HarborsUnknown  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! We were talking about just that point yesterday. If we were somewhere else it would have cost a pretty penny and we most likely wouldn’t have been able to learn how to do the repair.
