Kristin. You are quite the philosopher. You and Fabio make a wonderful team ‼️ Totally agreed with the Captain's decision of motoring the last 150 miles. Just made sense.for you m Yoda and the equipment. Cannot wait till my bride and I see this island come into view when it is our turn. See you next time.✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🏝️ 👙 🌞 ✨
Thank you but I can’t take all the credit! Fabio writes some of the VO. 😊 At least there’s one person that supports our choice to motor! 🤣 I’m sure your turn will come soon enough and it will be just as magical as you’ve imagined. Thanks for watching!
Kristina, your uplifting attitude during this very difficult passage was so inspiring. Thank you for editing this brilliant episode and we hope after your much needed rest, life returns to one of excitement and adventure. That tuna was massive, the ending meal looked delightful, thanks Chef Fabio!
i had the pleasure to meet this "boy wonder", some 30 years ago, when working in the same field as he, in Providence, RI, where he conquered another masterful career. you knew then that he was a superstar, straight from the rip. not surprised seeing him master this, as well. God bless.
You have all the time in the world... I would have sailed on and not motored... until the wind dropped complety of course... or not... maybe just chill and wait for it to kick back in :) Nice video as always... you should have many more likes and subscribers. Fair winds!!!!
We know many people that would agree with you! 🤣 The winds were forecast to be 20 knots on the nose after the calm which is never very comfortable so we took the easy way out. Thanks so much for the compliment! We appreciate it and hope that one day we will. Sharing always helps! 😊 Thanks for watching!!
Kristina and Fabio, thank you so much for taking the time to make all these videos and take us along with you. Really enjoy watching you guys and following you guys.
This video is an another educational one! And it’s always not finishing without the reward such as amazing big tuna!! Your team has overcome many difficulties and applying to the unstable and uncontrollable weather changes! So smarty compilated video is really appreciated 😊
Guys, we’ve been watching you since the beginning, you are great and get better and better. The content is the right balance between life and sailing. ❤ besides you really look like you’re enjoying life too x
Sorry I was slow getting onto this weeks vlog! WOW, what a great episode and even better - you finally caught a fish and not just any fish a huge tuna !!! YAY! Well Done. This has been a great sailing episode too. Ok, so you ask us what WE would do. Well not knowing just how much provisions you have on board and given the fuel issue at Fatu Hiva (NO fuel in January), I would have made my decision and made it earlier - more on that in a minute. It was funny because you asked this question of us right before the next days footage which showed becalmed seas with no wind. This can always become the case and it's at these times that you need your engines and fuel obviously. You never know when this will happen, and more importantly, how long that condition will last. Knowing these facts I would have sailed further off the wind and gone for more speed even though you would cover more miles (you often see racing sailors do this in catamarans because they have the speed to make it work) - and I probably would have done this earlier rather than later, making us e of the wind while you have it. Hell, you out there to sail and have adventure right? That's why you bought a sailing boat, yes?! Not a stink boat. When the doldrums kicks in that's when you can start up the motors. But it's always a trade off as you 'may' have had to motor a little further if you'd had sailed a little more off course, so it's a toss up, right? I guess you made the right decision and got there early. I hope you have enough fuel for the month. You certainly will have enough food/fish! 🤣 Anyway, you did good and now you can rest at Fatu Hiva safely for the cyclone season. YAY! Fair 💨's and Following 🌊's.
Thank you!! We were fortunate, later we were able to sail to Hiva Oa with plenty of diesel to spare and the fuel restrictions had been lifted and we filled up. It’s been a great ride!!🤩🤩
Wow,now thats a great catch ...when you notcatching often and you land a big tuna like that.. Wow...congrats ....looked like Fabio was a bit tired after hauling it in and cutting it up,thank you for sharing another part of your amazing adventure
Your sails look done - the leach on that main has given up long ago. As one of the few TH-camrs that can actually sail.... you know you need to get new sails. Incidentally a NZ company - C Tech - makes almost indestructible carbon battens. Expensive initially but we'll worth the peace of mind. The bay of virgins is one of my favourite anchorages, partially because it's so hard to get to. I have been lucky enough to have been there on four separate trips....
😂😂😂😂 you got that right!! Our main is in terrible shape and I am surprised we can still sail! We began with poor quality, then she was eaten by rats in Fort Lauderdale. The headboard broke during the passage to Panama, we have glued it up and repaired a number of times, the first batten broke (twice) all the stripes peeled off just a few months after we started using it. The Velcro in the batten pockets is falling off and even the manufacturer logo fell off immediately 😂😂😂😂. Yup, a 3 year old sail that looks like a 20 year old canvas. Thanks for the tip on c tech, for watching and for commenting! And BTW thank you for the compliment 😊😊😊
Wow! You fished an elephant!! Not the world's best passage, but not the worst also. And you made it. Gained experience, improved teamwork had an amazing full moon night and all the immersion in ourselves that comes with it. A curiosity: did you ever felt the need for a windscreen whiper - like on cars - on the glass in front of the nav station? Fair winds, enjoy yourstay on paradisetothe fullest!
Congratulations on the tuna and you caught that on the handline wow Fabio you are the man What a wonderful episode thank you for sharing those beautiful smiles and we'll see you next week
As for your question: Motor or not? No sail as long as you can. I also have a question. Do the carbon steering wheels get very hot assuming tropical temperatures.
We would love to replace the main, but for now we can only replace the batte for a couple of reasons. #1 location, everything is more expensive in French Polynesia and it takes forever to get it. #2 budget, we we planned for at least 5 years of use out of this main. Thank you for watching and for you comment!
@@HarborsUnknown you probably could start shopping around. I'm sure you might make a different material choice or do a square top instead of a high roach, etc.. shopping takes time, design takes time. You could always post-date a future order for example like "may 2025" and use that as negotiating leverage to book a good price for your order. If are methodical in your procurement you'll get exactly what you want at a good price rather than whatever you can get at the price you can afford or the time frame you need it.
You lost me at the mention of Neptune. 😂 I don't believe in storybook characters. I only rely on Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit for my direction and thankfulness. God bless you
I so admired your consistant, good attitude during this passage. Perspective is everything! Safe travels ❤
Thank you! It’s so important to maintain a positive attitude!

@gbsailing9436 no apologies needed!! You are not judgmental 😊🤩🤩 you are one of our most valued followers 😊😊
WOW thanks! 😱

Nice fish. Lucky you were motoring and able to slow down. Would have been difficult to land under sail. Challenging passage. Well done to you both.

@davidstorer5551 great way to look at the sea!! 😊😊
That was a very nice big fish. Are you still eating it?
We are, we filled the freezer 😊

The carbon steering wheels don’t get hot.

@@HarborsUnknown refresh my memory... your boat is a 2020 or 2021 ?
Commissioned July 2020, I guess the sail its going to be 4 years old in July 😊

@codegame027 excellent advice! You are correct, time to plan. 😊😊💪
Yoda's nails need to be clipped.
Yes they do! However that’s easier said than done. Believe it or not she bites when we try to trim her nails. 🙈
