I rellay like Keith Jarret and this song so much!. While driving along the Han River, I played this song to my loved one, and she said that because of this song, the night view of the river looked so attractive. I was so happy that she liked this song, too. I said to her this is "my song".
This one is a real gem, easy to have it on repeat for hours if you need to calm yourself down! Has eveything in it, passion, melody, raw emotion, calm passages and whole lot of KJ's magic!
Jarrett's music and greatest body of works always transports me to an unknown place of solace and being. I 'discovered' Keith 1998 during University summer break...and the heavens opened up and rained down timeless divinity. AMAZING GRACE
Keith is an era in himself... I will always remember the first time I heard his Köln concert. Some sparks that flew off my brain are still floating somewhere around.
Breathtaking. Been listening to his work for years, and it never ceases to amaze me how deep his sense of structure, tension and release is, how precise it is, how exact. And the man improvises it all. This man is a genuine miracle. Simply unbelievable.
true!! True!! but still... the man used ( :( ) to play every waking hour and sleeping hour, I guess that within him the boundaries between something "improvised" and something he went over at least in his mind and heart, and at least in fragments, was very feeble.
I am stunned to read this Robin. I worked in health care for around 17 years. I have had quite a few stroke patients in my care during that time. One hit home very hard. I was an ambulance officer called to a person collapsed. This was 1980, we were very limited. This guy went from talking to me, to talking word salad in minutes. 43 years later I still feel the sense of hopelessness I had then. I knew what was happening, but could do nothing to stop it. I am so pleased to hear that you had a kind of recovery that we could only dream of back then. Now in my late 60s, I have been told I have a 1 in 100 chance of a stroke. Let's hope the 99 come in for me.
Good god, I decided I while ago that this song was my favorite piece of music in the world. Listening to this today made me weep at work as he came to the end of that solo, evening though I’ve probably heard this about 100 times at this point. What a sublimely human piece of music. It reminds me who I am.
I bought the My Song cassette in the summer of 1979, and practically wore it out listening to this song & lending it to other people to give them a taste of what great Jazz could be. It is exciting to hear a solo performance of My Song after all these years! And of course, it's just another amazing performance by the amazing KJ! Thank you Tim Wood!
Thanks to my younger brother, who owned a record store in the 70's, I was already a HUGE KJ Fan when the Album, MY Song, was released. I wept the first time I head the Title Track. I teared up listening to this Solo performance, just now. I think it is one of the most beautiful Melodies I have ever heard. It's up there with, "Oh Danny Boy," which you all know KJ also performed. Thank for sharing Tim.
Hauntingly Beautiful! You make us see and understand just what the music requests from us - your listeners. We love you always, Mr. Jarrett. Thanks for enriching our lives- we are feel and are better human beings after your remarkable interpretations. ❤
The first time I listened to the Köln works, when it got to the end I couldn't figure out, how did I get here? Every time same result, but different place. Special doesn't come close.
@@philgray1023 Very well put, Phil. Really - your comment is very thought-provoking. I am always somewhere else, doing something different, and pleasantly peaceful when I listen to his music. This particular album is brilliant. Thanks for your reply. I appreciate talking about KJ's music to fellow-follower. Words that I think of are so ordinary and well-used when I try to describe his talent.. Perhaps, one day I will find new appropriate words to describe his remarkable talent, as I've used every good one I can think of - so far. (smiles) I am just in awe when he plays "I Loves You Porgy". Gershwin never played his own composition with such sadness and pathos for poor Bess. Regards to you - thanks again.
To the casual listener, a calm and tenderly lyrical tune. To a pianist, it's a hellishly devious method. The way his left and right hands switch off carrying the melody in between the high and low notes reminds one of a Chopin Etude. The lyrical upper register reminds one of Chopin's best waltzes and mazurkas. The harmonies are like no one else's, utterly unique in the piano oeuvre. A master virtuoso playing at the highest level imaginable. And that left hand in the coda: Stunning and humbling. And to finish it with the final notes of "Over the Rainbow…" Oh, why oh why can't I? He could.
I love this song and composer Keith Jarrett. When I listen to this, at the end of the song the last few notes sound like "Oh why, Oh why can't I? from Somewhere Over the Rainbow. It makes it even more powerful and moving.
The language of the music flows from the depth of the human feelings. No words, just musical notes engaged in a magnificent, astonishing way.....well,that's Jarrett.
Heard this after I heard Herb Alpert's version. Both beautiful, both soul-stirring. Won't decide which is best, so I love both. Smooth and unrelenting.
I first found this piece just few weeks ago from Spotify, yes.. for a millenial gen like me where else can I find any easier sources? The first time I listened to this song I vividly remember my Mom and the sweet memories we spent together. She lost her life to cancer August this year (2023). And now 2024 are coming close, and I can imagine that year would be the first year I will spent without her. Anyway, Keith's music is indeed a gift for all of us. A genious that touches everyone heart thru his music
Glad you've discovered Keith Jarrett. I've been listening to him since my college days in the 80's. It has gotten me through all of my rough times. Very relaxing and uplifting at the same time.
I must be one of the most peaceful dudes ever but I seriously hope those dislikers go drop in a ditch somewhere... What kind of dark soul can dislike this?
extremadrummer: the essence of jazz is that it's spontaneous, ever changing, ever unpredictable, ever new. Just as life is. If that's a problem, then it'll be unavoidable. Better in my view to see & understand it as a celebration.
Jazz is music for life. 1978 I was 28. Now I am 73, and I can not have enough from this stuff! Thank yor for the musik and your inspiration!
Words seem inadequate when comes to expressing how breathtaking Keith Jarrett's playing is. I simply can't get enough of this musical genius playing.

Confidence, In Declaration Of Greatest Of ALL T I M E ! ! ! - Music's Enigma: Keith Jarrett
how could anyone not adore this master doing an original heartfelt melody>??
many reasons. many, many reasons all of which I compose. I get his music but it doesn't get me. Because he is my musical father.
Beyond beautiful...xxx
This is truly beautiful. I love this version much more than the one with soprano sax.
This song is my mother's hug
It feels like my body is filled with the same type of liquid as this music, and it’s melting into/with me so comfortably...
This song will always stay deeply rooted in my heart, thanks so much!
Two years after, but i agree with you. Maurício Festa, from Brazil - February, 2020.
Heard this after I heard Herb Alpert's version. Both beautiful, both soul-stirring. Won't decide which is best, so I love both. Smooth and unrelenting.
Yes, but Jarrett wrote it. Alpert's a versión, Jarret's is THE version.
Music in his most pure state......soul speaking!!!!
So wonderful! IMHO anyone that would give this a thumbs down simply does not love piano music.
Beautiful work, Keith ! :)
It,s one of my favorite songs! Thank you!

simple harmonies, a lyrical, almost childish tune and soaring quasi pop saxophone from garbarek. absolute perfection.

WONDERFUL😄😄😄
The main problem is that each KJ version is usually played only once. That's also a reason why he is so great.
+Georg Scholz Somebody asked about a CD containing this version, Sir.
+Georg Scholz Oh, I'm so sorry!
extremadrummer: the essence of jazz is that it's spontaneous, ever changing, ever unpredictable, ever new. Just as life is. If that's a problem, then it'll be unavoidable. Better in my view to see & understand it as a celebration.
Thanks indeed, this is one I had not heard yet !
Predivna stvar od jednog fascinantnog umetnika.
