I think people are sleeping on this gun. It’s fun to use and really effective. I was also surprised at how far away I could be from a teammate for the health regen to activate. Great review!
The range on Harsh Truths appears to be "if anyone in the zone dies." Was running a strike on Nessus and people were dying in a public event, giving me health regen, even though they were on the other end of the region. I think it's just any ally within your instance.
I love this gun in PVP. I agree with the attitude that it isn't that super great at close range but I make up for it by carrying a energy smg or burst sidearm

The only time pulses were undeniable king was at the beginning of year two in the Nirwens mercy two burst era and hawksaw. Pulses have always been top tier though.

I wanted to this gun so bad. It reminded me of a one Destiny1 trials reward. I ended up deleting it fast. 1. You gotta like pulse's 2. It's got a huge gun model and sight. Looks like a rocket launcher...lol..3. it melts if you land your first 5 burst. If you miss your first burst your screwed. It's a very high risk/ high reward pulse.
Alex came across Randal at the edz today guarding a gold chest I couldn't believe it. It was just like D1 he was bulletproof, I'm 294 and it took me ages to kill him. Recorded it. Great experience ,good memories from D1.
Sam Nakkula Lower sensitivities from 3-5 is what most would recommend. But it really does vary between each person, and how you want to play the game, then "if" you can play it that way effectively.
I think there was a huge missed opportunity with this as an exotic quest. It should have been the reward for a tie in quest leads to uncovering lore for the osiris dlc, this should have been osiris' weapon that we discover after trying to retrace his steps. That would have been great

Brandon Powell get kills with your other weapons and you will get kinetic ammo. I like to use energy weapons but I switch to my kinetic weapon for energy ammo. they did that so you won't be able to use 1 weapon all the time. bungie said that before the games release.

The design for the ornament is like a after a 1000 years kinda thing. This is like the right when soment just made the gun fresh out of a gunsmith or gun manufacturing place Or Osiris' hands
I can understand why you don't like it that much, personally it's probably my favorite ornament in the game because I adore the rusty and worn look but I can see why someone might want something a bit fancier
Bungie should increase the zoom on scout rifle scopes this would make them harder to use at mid range so pulse rifles would be able to dominate close/mid range like they are supposed to and auto rifles should start experiencing more severe damage falloff similar to how handcannons worked in d1 and handcannons just need 10-15 more aim assist and removal of blomm and they would be able to compete with autorifles at close range.
I just randomly fell in love with this weapon and lost favor with the MIDA... Since I don't have Wardcliff Coil (Started at week 3, bite it,) my PVE exotic is either Skyburner's Oath, Risk Runner, or Sweet Business.
good insight on the gun. my friend has a hard time landing precision shots in pvp so ive been looking for ways to help remedy this. other than "do it better"
There's actually a bug I found with it where it's trait doesn't activate if you're by yourself in pvp (meaning 1v4) and have died when the perk was first active. It doesn't start again and you're left with just a 5 burst pulse rifle. I let Bungie know but who knows when they'll fix it.
You keep saying consistent, but honestly its just too slow for any engagement thats not an unaware opponent or team-fight. The only thing I've seen this come out on top of "consistently" are sidearms or handcannons outside of their effective range. Everything else just has a much faster kill time and by the time that third pulse has even fired you're either staggering all over the place missing your shots because "Optimal DPS High-caliber" or you're already dead. Thats not to mention if you need to jump, grenade, melee, run, or reload, that burst will keep you from doing any of that until its done, and by then its too late. Please stop over-hyping a bad rifle. If they nerf high-caliber or the MIDA I could see it shining, but until then, you're only handicapping yourself since the gun requires your teammates to fail in order to activate.
I love this weapon, it does really well- except against most Auto Rifles. However... it can and will outgun a MIDA as well several other scouts. So right now... it's very constant in my opinion. However going against anything with High Cal if they shoot first... not a fun time. But if you can shoot first... you'll probably win if not walk away hurt. I personally found the most use of this gun paired with a Devour Void Lock... being able to heal up all the time from those kind of engagements is rather nice- lets you move on to the next target without worrying to much about health. However again... Uriels will stomp ya still. If someone has good aim and isn't a potato... so will other Autos too. Fun fact this weapon can just Baaaaaaaaaarely two burst a target in a Damage rift. I say barely cause they have a silver of health after two bursts. If in a 1v1 engagement... that is amazing. Outside of that... this gun is something to really hold onto for if High Cal does get touched on. My only issue is that in PvP, I ran out of ammo on my first run with it. Went on an 11 kill streak with it... every kill was mine, and I had one burst left in the gun. To which I was left waiting for a teammate to die so they would drop Kinetic as I've only seen ammo drop when a teammate dies. I ended up dying to a Uriels who was to afraid to fight me- until he heard a different weapon start shooting and then he pushed on me.
I love this gun. It is amazing at team shots as it seems like it is a real shield burner. I always loved the idea of having a full team with VW's and see what you could do. you could actually play a really aggressive playstyle with it as it sort of rewards the risky playstyle for your teammates if you die and vice versa. something that would make this gun absolutly amazing as a PvP exotic though would be if it had the same perk as Red Death from Destiny 1. Kills start healing you. Then this weapon would be great, everywhere and I think it would fit perfectly in both PvE and PvP as the ultimate survival weapon. btw a tip for hunters. If you slap in kinetic stability mods into your chest and cloak, you can turn this gun into a near lazer. Its worth investing into that!
Hey Patrick Casey I would recommend using a 720 rpm auto rifle like valakadyn to cover the short and mid ranges because I personally have found the two pair really well together
Not a fan of this gun, although I will say its dependable and got me thru my first raid when I was the low level with my clan. I think I was around 280 or somethin, and this ol pulse rifle was my best gun at the time. Ill always keep this gun in my vault just because....Ahh memories
This is one of my favorite guns in d2. Mostly because of it's looks though. I will say, it does pretty well in strikes, teammates don't die often, but when they do, the health regen it gives is great because you'll probably be dying too.
The weapon is good in PvP, if you get used to it. It's not max aim assist Mida pick up and do great with. Once you find your rhythm it's pretty solid though.
Good thing you can aim at someone's crotch with MIDA and still hit them in "the dome" thanks 100 aim assist...also it can corner shot because that's just dynamite.
I have this gun and I agree that its a pain with the ammo, which is why during public events I juggle between using my abilities, energy weapon and only use the V.W if there's a large group of enemies in need of shredding. I usually go on enemy hunts to get kinetic ammo.
I was really after this gun and it dropped for me a few days ago and like you I thought it was awesome at first but then realised it was a bit lacking like a lot of exotics. It’s a blast in pvp though I’ve had some of my best games with this weapon!
I think the perks that proc when fire team members die are good. In pretty much any situation where someone dies that is a disadvantage for everyone else. Those perks soften that blow to the fire team. Additionally if you never see those perks proc doesn't that just mean that your team is consistently out playing the other team or taking out mobs in pve? If that's the case than you don't really need any of those perks anyways
This is a really good weapon for boss battles in strikes and nightfalls. If your team goes two men down, harsh truths makes its user the survivor that will usually rez the whole team.
You will pretty much dominate in a 1v1 situation. But as 9 times out of 10 you come up against team shooting you are most likely going to lose that battle. But a good weapon all round.
Aim at their kneecaps and get three head shots. Rinse and repeat. God for bid if their head is peeking out from stairs. For some reason, at that point, all five shots land in the head. I think the auto aim doesn't know what to do when there is only a head available so it fires all five to the dome.

Spartan 0420 The big sights would be a problem and take heaps of screen space if you moved and jumped heaps with the weapon out, they suit a turret style way more

I've had a lot of ammo problems in PvE with pulses and hand cannons and even occasionally scouts so it's not just a problem with vigilance wing

I like how this weapon has a nice rhythm to it. Like.. 1 burst - 2 bursts - 3 bursts, aaaand the enemy is down. It's super fun to use in PvP.
Yeah I love the skill gap with the weapon too, it takes some getting used to but once you do it melts in pvp.

Spartan 0420 The big sights would be a problem and take heaps of screen space if you moved and jumped heaps with the weapon out, they suit a turret style way more

I love this in pvp, have had it for a few weeks
I played against this dude last week. Ended with a .47 KD. Almost committed suicide.
The exotic perks of this gun activate a lot for me in PvE because the people I'm paired with in strikes are straight up booty.
