Hey guys I hope you enjoyed this! Do let me know if you’d like to see more videos like this where I tell the story of the game, character or event. Thank again for watching!
@@WiseFish Great video, well edited. But also, throwing shade at Von Everic? Von Everic wasn't a sociopath with a heart of stone, he received a heart of stone as a side effect of wishing to, "Live everyday as though it's the last." He loved his wife and was willing to sell his soul for her, he also loved his brother deeply. They were criminals and rapscallions, but Ol'geird wanted to leave that behind and join his wife. The heart of stone, being unable to love, being unable to feel, wasn't what Ol'Geird had to begin with, it was his curse and the beginning of his downfall. And even when he had it, he remembered enough of himself, how he once loved, to go to great lengths to undo the curse and reverse it's effects. The only humanity we see in Ol'Geird is a memory of all the humanity he lost.
What I love most about Gaunter’s portrayal is how incredibly grounded he is. The man dresses up like a lowly merchant, his physical appearence is not that different from any other NPC in the world at first glance and talks in a pretty normal manner compared to most characters in the series, even though he’s arguably the most powerful entity there is. His cunning deception is one of his greatest strengths and it helps him to manipulate his victims. Best part is he probably doesn’t have to do any of that given his powers, he just fancies toying with lesser creatures and that is undoubtedly malicious
i loved this too! if you notice, he can CLEARLY teleport and manifest wherever he pleases, yet he makes the deliberate decision to WALK often. even 'lesser' demons or entities like the dog and cat teleport around more often then not but Gaunter doesn't
I honestly don't think it's a question of his abilities. He seems more or less beyond concepts like power. For the most part, he's merely putting on a show for those that he chooses to interact with. It's more like he's taking it easy for the sake of his own amusement. Even when he is beaten, it's still his own game. He even shows it with the way he traps the guy into standing on the moon. That's not even twisting words, that's a depiction of a crescent moon. It's not "The Moon". As established by the guy's own words, if he does not know it exists, the moon is a singular thing in the sky. He could have had kids draw a picture of the moon in the dirt and he would still profess that is was good enough. But at the end of the day, he's still just looking for amusement. Which is the most likely reason he got Geralt involved. A likely candidate to give a him a chance at losing. If it's always a certainty that he comes out on top, then what is the point? I think they make out the conjunction of spheres as what drew his attention in the first place. Or he could have caused it, but he seems more like an entity that searches for excitement and goes where the action is. But ultimately, I guess they have to leave him a mystery. Otherwise, he overshadows anything, or any being, in the Witcher universe. The witches in the swamp seem similar to him in their ways, using folklore, marks of ownership, and they put on a show to frighten people. But they are utterly pathetic compared to Gaunter and his whims. He doesn't clap to stop time, he stops time and claps to make you think there was some earthly cause to the effect.
People talk about Gaunter stopping time, but if you pay close attention to the scene in the inn, you can actually see the flames are still burning naturally in the fireplace (the shifting and changing pattern of the shadows on the walls) meaning he didn't stop time, he merely froze the living creatures in the inn in their place.
One thing about Gaunter O'Dimm that's important to remember, is that he's the only character in the entire Witcher series that appears to be fully aware of us. He deliberately makes eye contact with the camera several times to ensure we know he sees us. Truly amazing.
He's up there with the best character ever created in a video game CD could not have wrote his character any better. The voice actor absolutely sold it also. You really feel like it's the Devil. Also, one thing worth mentioning, in the majority of the cutscenes with Master Mirror, someone almost always says "devil" on the ship the guy next to you in the cell said it, in the bar the guy who's soup he spiked also said "what the devil?" He's Lucifer in the Witcher universe. Master Mirror (G.O.D) Mirror of God.
I love the idea of geralt realising who cursed Marlena and the idea that gaunter is just watching him and taking great enjoyment from watching him still beat his riddles
Gaunter is probably the closest we get to a full on god in the witcher but with the signature witcher realism behind it so it isn't good nor bad just an asshole
I would argue that he is the devil, or at least a lesser "devil". The whole story is rooted deeply in eastern european folklore, where it's always the devil: you can defeat him if you know his name or if you beat him ath his game, making pacts all the time, it collects souls etc... So I'd say it's more evil than good.
Most mystetious - yes! Most evil - I dunno. I mean he is evil, but not a cheat. He only uses the vice of men. Do you think he is more evil than the Crones? I am kinda divided between him and them. He seems more powerful and divious but they are more vicious and malevolent. Whatcha think?
evil? to me he is mostly a guy who is boored and/or is obsessed with playing games so he is messing auround with mortals cause of it he could kill gerald but he doesnt and even gives him a chance to defeat him or a great reward.... yes he is kind of evil but he is mostly messing around with people who arent angles themselfs
Going on the devil/evil incarnate/fallen higher being motifs found in his character, if he's a former higher dimensional entity who found itself bound in a fourth-dimensional prison due to a fall-from-grace scenario (which, even if all of 3D space and its 4D timeline were relatively expansive to us, it would most definitely be like a prison to something that was originally accustomed to the freedom of going to and from greater realms beyond spacetime), then his character makes perfect sense. He doesn't have the ability to kill unless someone gives him permission to via vices. I think that even goes to characters like the drunk that he "spoons" to death--the drunk has already essentially traded his better life to be a sot and he's already in the company of O'Dimm, despite not knowing to the full extent of what O'Dimm truly is. He found himself in the wrong company due to his choices. As a 4D entity, O'Dimm is stuck in a place where it can only watch and wait for his quarry to slip up. It is precisely what demons are implied to be.
Ive never been unnerved bya character more than him. The more I played the more I realized this man in a monster that plays people and even You like a damn fiddle. You don't know how far he planned ahead and how powerful he is it feels Meaningless to even stand against him. Fuuuuck that. Horror movies can't make a character as unnerving as Go'd
If you take medieval folklore there´s a lot of tales about The Devil very similar to the image of Gaunter. Dude´s just straight scary. I wish I could play the entire game for the first time. Hearts of Stone is solid as fuck.
Hi Wisefish man, I wanna to add a little thing to Master Mirror's final riddle in Heart of Stone. The mysterious Cat and Dog in von Everec's Manor told geralt to "seek salvation in the mirror (or glass) that cannot be broken". I think that's how Geralt solved that riddle. Great video as always.
His GWENT expansion pack trailer's description confirms that he ultimately controls how the story of the Witcher world plays out, and every event in it was wrought by him (which will include the Conjunction of Spheres i.e. the fusion of infinite universes). He really is the G.O.D.
Just rewatched this and even with many things i cant remember from the game, i had a thought. Many people point out, how Gaunter is very polite to Shani and mostly rude to his contracts. He truly just mirrors his counterparts in every interaction. Rude and cold to Olgierd, direct and determined to Geralt, puzzling and scheming for the professor. And just so, every contract/wish fulfillment is targeted at his potential victim, which traps them specifically: -The professor is trapped in his fear of Gaunter and the interest about his true nature. He wanted to be safe against Gaunter's schemes, who would have had no influence without this contract or his interest over him. (I suspect he could have left the circle at any time and would have been fine.) -Olgierd wanted an easy solution for all his problems. But this easy way out took every joy out of him(such a classic trope btw.). And after that, he just tried again and again to drown himself in the simplest and easiest pleasures. Oh and couldn't be honest with his brother, even after his death. No real effort for his wishes and dreams. You know what i mean. -Geralt on the other hand works hard for his goals and doesn't loose his wit in dangerous times. A strong and healthy "soul" is of no interest to Gaunter O'Dimm(this is also true for Shani and maybe even for the old woman at the wedding). But since he needs Geralt for his contract with Olgierd, he arranges for the situation where Geralt has to owe him a favour. But even with his help, Geralt has to work for his freedom, because thats just how he is. The true test for Geralt in his contract is about his morality, where he has to decide who the bigger monster is. Olgierd or Gaunter O'Dimm. This is btw. a really good RP element. If you think that Olgierd is the bigger monster you just let Gaunter take his soul. And vice versa. Just a thought, but maybe the man who won his soul back from Gaunter didn't outwit him. Maybe the drawbacks of his fulfilled wish gave him an insight about his problems so he could nurture his "soul" to a point where Gaunter had no more interest in it. One definite lesson is, that there are no shortcuts for problems.
The assertion that he is evil clashes with the fact that he never lies or cheats. The only time he ever seems to act disproportionately is when he sticks the spoon in the drunk's eye, and his statement "That's the last time you interrupt me." heavily implies that more happened than we see. He likes Shani and even gives Geralt free advice to win her over. Master Mirror only appears evil when someone evil is looking at him.
He tells you a lot of half truths, and manipualtes the Ofieri into going to the tunnels for the prince at the exact time you go to slay him. When you talk to the other guy at the boat, he tells you that someone who speaks common (english) recriuted him to show the Ofieris around the tunnel to find the prince (and that that person is on the boat). And Gaunter is the only one along with the mage speaking english. My theory is that Gaunter recriuted the guide to show the ofieris where the prince is at the time you went to see olgierd and that is why they arrives as soon as you killed the prince and that is why you have to accept gaunter's offer. He was manipulating you from the get go
I know Blood & Wine is impressive, beautiful, practically another game entirely. For me though, Heart of Stone is peak Witcher 3. Its the best storyline, the best characters, and has the sharpest dialogue. Gaunter is one of my favorite villains ever, and my favorite depiction of the devil, all time. Every scene with Olgierd is fantastic. He seems cool at first, then you fear him, then you hate him, then you feel sad for him, and eventually you pity him. Its so good. Even Shani is my favorite. I think its my favorite DLC for any game, ever.
The reflection in the pool just reminds me of Vilgefortz, when he kept saying the line about mistaking the reflection of the stars in a pool for the night sky, and it just made me think, Gaunter O’Dimm is what Vilgefortz was aspiring to be imo
Mannnnnnnnn, I was listening to his theme yesterday and thought to myself that you should do a video on Gaunter O'Dimm lol. Cheers, mate! Especially excited for this one :D
@@WiseFish It is! Especially with the kids singing that song about him, oooooooof. The whole soundtrack for TW3 is simply sublime. Always enjoy your videos by the way, lad. You have a very captivating way of bringing us into all these great stories.
I personally believe he's some sort of eldrich god. Something like Nyarlathotep or the Great Ones from Bloodborne, only in human form. You learn a lot more about him from texts in the standalone Gwent game, but I believe that he does what he does not because he is evil, but because he is not human and so does not have a human's sense of morality. He merely nudges people and reflects them simply to sate his curiosity of what will happen. Truly neutral in the grand scheme of things, but horrifyingly powerful, much like how an insect might view a human. I believe he puts the restrictions he explains to Geralt on himself merely as a way to avoid getting bored. He is all-powerful, uncaring, and unknowable, not because he's the devil or evil incarnate, but simply because he is so completely and utterly above us, and may very well be of a nature so alien we could never hope to understand him beyond what he tells us. The conclusion of this linked video and the one that follows it is the one I would consider to be most similar to my own: th-cam.com/video/NhR0nIWB8AA/w-d-xo.html
I see him as a chaotic neutral being. He doesn't level cities massacring people which i believe he could do. He is a trickster that offers great treasure at a high cost to those who dare.
Probably not the Lovecraftian thing; the elder gods in that setting were remarkable because they were profoundly alien and uninterested in the lives or ideas of humans. This is more of a trickster archetype - very into human psychology.
Check out the lyrics for that one uber-hick song Devil Went Down To Georgia and its associated folklore tale of a man who out-fiddled the Devil and tell me you can't imagine Gaunter doing that exact sort of shit.
gaunter o dimm is the devil, the second time you meet him is at a crossroads which is something the devil is known for. he is a god like being, he feeds on souls and gets joy from pain and suffering, hes truly one of the scariest, and most evil villains in any lore in my opinion
If he can't beat me in Gwen i don't care how powerful he is~ But when you think about it O'dimm isn't truly evil,he reflect a person ugliest side to them,it might be for his amusement but he's honest because as we can see from the end of HoS his rules also applied to him to keep the game fair.
What if he is a reflection of GOD or to be more precise the opposite of GOD. It is said that the devil mimics miracles and puts on a facade as GOD to spite him. Wouldn't be surprised if he would use an acronym for a name to also spite the name of GOD.
One Detail you seemingly missed or got wrong is that we know from the professors that gaunter was active for thousands of years, so waaaaaay before the conjunction
I just finished Heart of Stone and I love GAunter O Dimm. Very devious and charming guy. This was when I had a trouble time choosing to side him or the other guy.
i think he works better as he is, i would prefer him have more presence in the next game but i wouldn't want him to actually be an enemy. rather a person who influences key parts of the story and larger world. he did say if he ever needs help again he'll call on a witcher, and while they're a dying order, in the best and probably canon ending, Ciri becomes her own version of a Witcher
When geralt asked about o dimms name, gaunter "spared" geralt because knowing his name would have left geralt with either being dead or even suffer a worse fate. Shakeslock was probably on the precipice of knowing Gaunter's real name. Gaunter stopped him with the circle curse, because had shakeslock discovered his name...his name would be known by many others. How could Gaunter play his games if everyone who inquired about him knew him? Awsome game btw!
to the contrary, i think Shakeslock did know, but refused to tell as he was in his predicament because he knew it. he's stuck there because Gaunter doesn't want him spreading it to every road and town in the continent and beyond, and he's tormented endlessly so that he knows what awaits any he tells. he's a good man and he wouldn't condemn anyone to a fate like his
@@TarsilyWasTaken Man this comment is old, didn't expect a response on this. Yes I agree btw, also after playing God of war 2018 and ragnorok. I can't help but hear mimir when shakeslock talks and vice versa.
@@themerchant5567 hah! yeh i figured comments deserve input no matter how long, frankly Gaunter was especially cruel to poor Mimirslock cause death would've been far more generous. Shakeslock asked for safety and protection from Gaunter's games and Gaunter should've 'spared' him and said no, just ending it for him. and omg yes! i remember first hearing him and was like "...wait"
Gaunter didn't give Shakeslock a blessing, he gave him a curse. He didn't give him a gift, he gave him a prison. Shakeslock was only safe within the circle, meaning he'd die if he left the circle. Nothing Gaunter gave him was good. Gaunter gave him constant fear in protection or death. Gaunter twisted another wish in a cruel manner
I know this is late, but when geralt asked about o dimms name. Gaunter "spared" geralt because knowing his name would have left geralt with either being dead or even suffer a worse fate. Shakeslock was probably on the precipice of knowing Gaunter's real name. Gaunter stopped him with the circle curse, because had shakeslock discovered his name...his name would be known by many others. I’ve always bien in love with the concept of a deal with the devil But g.o.d is just perfect. He’s so scary yet you never feel treated by him because you know your following the rules and playing the game You always know that you’re dancing in the edge of the blade and I love it
I also love that hes in the background of a lot of cut scenes throughout the expansion, and the first time I played I didnt see him once because i didnt know that and my second playthrough I thought i was seein things when i noticed him dressed as one the guards who confront you at one point, gave me chills
One detail lots of people seem to miss, The black cat and dog, knew the answer to Gaunter's riddle, long before you even challenge him, how powerful or at least knowledgeable are they?
They are demons, means Gaunter is related to demons in a way, seeing his realm full of them, that "challenge" must've been ome he used more than once, someone else beat him before, and others tried and died, could be the demons know of it, because it happened before.
Talking to Shakeslock, he tells you only one person has beaten Gaunter before, a peasant Shakeslock also says there are records of Gaunter dating back thousands of years, they could’ve figured out what game and riddle Gaunter uses
Master of mirrors... What a character!!!! Give who ever thought of him a pay rise! He reminds me of rumplestiltskin. But he is the devil or something along those lines.
We don't know that he can control everything in the universe. His power over time may be isolated to a localized area. He may only be able to manipulate time on earth or even only in one place on earth. His penchant for deception while at the same time refusing to violate his oaths may be indicative of a limitation. He may himself be the pawn of a being or beings greater and more powerful than himself who force him to operate within certain, unbreakable parameters. We assume that he keeps his oaths simply because it's more fun for him to do so, but he has proven to be incredibly deceptive, so we really have no justification for assuming such things. It might also be that he is a spirit of some future age either created or released upon the earth by some massive, future catastrophe. Or he could be a very powerful mage from some future time where mankind has blended technology with magic to produce exceptionally powerful results. For example, he could be a future mage who tapped into some sort of quantum fluctuation where he now finds himself able to travel forwards and backwards in time. We just don't know. We aren't given enough information. All our knowledge about him is just guesswork at best.
The only thing not talked about is the breaking of the wooden spoon mentioned in the spotted wight quest. Gaunter does this for Geralt as well to "free" him from the ship, and kills a man with a wooden spoon.
In my head canon guanter is forsure the biblical devil. Maybe due to magic being more of a thing in the Witcher universe he can exercise his powers in a more direct way that here?
I know what he is. Guanter o dimm or master mirror or man of glass is from mirror on the wall who grant the evil queen wishes and answer her question (who is the fairest of them all). Guanter riddle game to challenged Geralt give you clues. I thought Guanter is Rumble Stilskin or genie and he is not god, not soothsayer, not demon. Guanter is an awesome creature in the witcher world.
He’s such an intelligent character. I wanna know all of his secrets, but would probably be disappointed if I knew the truth. That’s the appeal of a mysterious character. The guessing and speculation is where all the fun is. Lol
Meeting Gaunter at the Croasroads was no coincidence. In old folk tails arojnd the world it is said that people would be met by the devil or dark spirits at these places.
Finally someone who agrees on my interpretation on him. There's no known gods or devils in this world. Only conjunction of spheres brought together two worlds, humans and world of world of magic and monsters, even immortal and always existing ones (like higher vampires). Why would CDPR bring the most powerful of beings in this world, if they are not in the books? As you said, this guy is probably a higher demon or something, with powers of old folktales from middle ages in Polish areas. TLDR: As I said, an immortal creature like higher vampires. Most likely higher demon or similar.
Because of you I'm going to play the witcher iv never played it but cos of you I will thank you. I love deep lore I'm really into warhammmer because of lore and I didn't realise just how deep the witcher lore gose
i love that in blood and wine, you get a trace of him too, and that he is the reason for emhyr var emris to become the person he is, sinse he made the usurper kill emhyrs father
Personally i think Gaunter O'Dimm is an incredibly powerful warlock who likely got trapped in this dimension during the conjuction of the spheres. Gonna assume he's from a magical order much much higher than what humans and elves could attain.
Here’s a polished version of your comment ready for copy-pasting: “Did you know that Master Mirror (Gaunter O’Dimm) in The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone speaks a phrase in Georgian during the ending? He says: ‘შენ გგონია, მომიგე? არა…’ which translates to ‘You think you beat me? No…’ It’s fascinating how the developers included such a unique linguistic touch!
In the Witcher ending when you come across the dwarfs who stole your boat on the Isle of Mists, there’s some dialogue in which the dwarves tell Geralt the merchant who bought their stolen golden chalice was a Master Mirrory. Why O’Dimm is interested in their golden chalice or putting coin in the scheming dwarves pockets I’ll never know. Clearly the man gets off on people’s suffering. Gaunter banishing Vlodimir was quite haunting, considering my Geralt told O’Dimm he didn’t have to hurt Vlodimir and he just responded. “I know, but I could.” Along with O’Dimm spending the entire party trying to demean and demoralise said dead man. Like, where does he get off? Get a life, O’Dimm.
As Slavic I would say Gaunter is inspired by typical slavic folklore fairytales, where hero is dealing with "čert" (in czech). Hero is trying to reverse some pact with čert, because he traded his soul for wealth etc. and now he is trying to save himself. Čert can be translated as devil or krampus in german which is more close in appearances i would say. Čert as a evil creature dates back to pagan times and then shift to christianity as a hell dweller under Lucifer or whatever is your name for "christian" devil.
I'll be honest, I threw Olgir to Gaunter. For whatever you can say about him, Gaunter always honors his contracts. And pissing of something like him seems like a fast way to get a fate worse then death.
You know who and what he sounds like to me, a Daedric Prince from Elder Scrolls! Levels of power that no mortal can ever hope to understand, can seem evil and monsterous at times, and at others, somewhat good! Terrible if angered, but, actually fair, and honors their word, even rarely bested by a mortal, gives them a piece of their power in return!
You say he’s evil, but I don’t know if that’s true. Rather, he seems more to be “A thing that embodies what people themselves show him.” The Professor expected a being of pure evil, and to be tricked and die, and exactly that occurs. Olthir is a callous man who takes for granted what he has and thus he’s punished, his wickedness magnified and turned against him, destroying him and his dreams in the cruelest of ways. Geralt is a morally complicated but ultimately good man and Gaunter assists him, saves his life, and ultimately gives him a reward, including earnest advice on how to save Ciri, despite not really being compelled to. He never expresses interest in Geralt’s soul, and is rather amiable about the whole affair. He only acts like an enemy if Geralt confronts him like one. Treats him like one. No. I think Gaunter O’Dimm is far more terrifying then just “Pure Evil”. Pure evil seeks to do nothing but harm. I think Gaunter, far more chillingly, thinks he’s doing the right thing. He can hate and torment his prizes til the stars burn out because he’s certain, in the depths of his soul, that they truly deserve it.
In Job 1 it talks about God asking satan “whence comest thou?” And the response satan said was “From going to and fro in the land and walking up and down it.” Gaunter travels the roads and has been called evil incarnate. Coincidence? I think not! Checkmate atheists.
Jesus Christ he’s following us. We’ve become too nosy, now he’s going to trap us in a special hell where there’s only pain and the contented whistling of a mangy vagrant.
it's actually "Hearts of Stone" in reference to Olgierd specifically, who's heart became cold and unmoving as a result of his pact. Olgierd was always uncaring towards others but to a fault, he loved his family and wife and etc. Gaunter turned him into the worst version of himself and instead of getting the message and symbolism of what Gaunter did and work hard to learn and become a purer soul, he neglected everything and sought shallow pleasures to fill his heart, abandoning all he loved
It's inspired by the polish legend of Sir Twardowski who was a Krakow noble in the 16th century who sold his soul to the devil in exchange for knowledge and magical powers. He however tried to trick the devil by adding a clause stating that the devil would only be able to harvest his soul when he visits Rome. He thought that it'd be easy, he'd just have to not go to Rome. Twardowski quickly became rich, famous and powerful but years after the contract he found himself in a tavern called Rzym (Rome in Polish). While he was being dragged to Hell he started praying to the Virgin Mary who made the devil drop his soul and Twardowski fell on the moon
Why does the title of Gaunter even matter? He is powerful, extremely powerful and truly evil. Demon, devil, a god? The beauty in it is that it doesnt matter, only that you recognize how dangerous and evil he is.
The devil went down to temeria he was looking for a soul to steal he was in a bind and running way behind and looking to make a deal when he came upon this Witcher sawing on a drowner and burning it hot and he said boy let me tell you what…
"A master mirror" "No blow can harm me" A reflection...in the water. I have a theory that he has rules he has to follow. Like the how hes powerful but cant just strait up take souls. I also think one of the rules is that when defeated he has to announce certain things like his lines at the end but theres no rule about what language the info is in. He might be like a powerful evil water spirit, representation entity, or portfolio style demi-god left over from and unknown pantheon. Or even a simple guy that figured out the "code" to that universe. all of which would make for interesting story potential. last note: Im not sure he full blown stops time. I think he just stops most movement in the area at that moment cause when he puts the fly in that soup it continues to float around, that and the way the people there look more like their holding place than stuck.

I never noticed that, good point!
And when Geralt asks if it's time itself or just an illusion, Gaunter avoids the question.
Probably the devs forgot to edit that
but he also shoved a spoon into the guys head through the eye and wasn't immediately gushing out blood.
Honestly I would assume that was a mistake by the devs
One thing about Gaunter O'Dimm that's important to remember, is that he's the only character in the entire Witcher series that appears to be fully aware of us.
He deliberately makes eye contact with the camera several times to ensure we know he sees us. Truly amazing.
Can you remind me when this happens
@@Artaxerxes. The cutscene where you meet him in the bar and he freezes time. He looks directly at us when Geralt asks "Who are you, really?"
Correct me on this but didn’t Geralt do the same at the end of the main Blood and Wine campaign at the campfire?

“He gives you what you wish, not what you want”
- Professor Premethine Shakeslock
Zeus
He's the devil.
@@Kamix98PL he could be
I would argue that he is the devil, or at least a lesser "devil". The whole story is rooted deeply in eastern european folklore, where it's always the devil: you can defeat him if you know his name or if you beat him ath his game, making pacts all the time, it collects souls etc...
So I'd say it's more evil than good.
@@amoeb81 evil from our perspective, but how can we know the true inner workings of a being with such power? Lol jk jk, he evil asf. 🤣
This is 100% the most evil and misterious entity I've ever seen in a videogame since the G-man.
oh yeah. There is something about him.
When I met him, it wasn't long until I knew he wasn't playing by the same rules as everyone else.
Thanks bro.
Most mystetious - yes! Most evil - I dunno. I mean he is evil, but not a cheat. He only uses the vice of men. Do you think he is more evil than the Crones? I am kinda divided between him and them. He seems more powerful and divious but they are more vicious and malevolent. Whatcha think?
evil? to me he is mostly a guy who is boored and/or is obsessed with playing games so he is messing auround with mortals cause of it
he could kill gerald but he doesnt and even gives him a chance to defeat him or a great reward....
yes he is kind of evil but he is mostly messing around with people who arent angles themselfs
O'dimm deserves to be the main plot point of an entire game..
Gaunter O Dimm has to be one of the most terrifying villains ever written
God is not evil
@@boriserjavec6470 God's nature is beyond human comprehension, it doesn't fall within human dichotomies.

@@pavelslama5543 An interesting interpretation indeed.
And just so, every contract/wish fulfillment is targeted at his potential victim, which traps them specifically:
-The professor is trapped in his fear of Gaunter and the interest about his true nature. He wanted to be safe against Gaunter's schemes, who would have had no influence without this contract or his interest over him. (I suspect he could have left the circle at any time and would have been fine.)
-Olgierd wanted an easy solution for all his problems.
Great video. First time I encountered him I thought he was interesting but harmless. Gaunter is terrifying.

It is!
The conclusion of this linked video and the one that follows it is the one I would consider to be most similar to my own:
th-cam.com/video/NhR0nIWB8AA/w-d-xo.html
I see him as a chaotic neutral being. He doesn't level cities massacring people which i believe he could do. He is a trickster that offers great treasure at a high cost to those who dare.
@@TheLiamis He doesn't level cities because the death of one man is a tragedy but the death of millions is a statistic.
If he can't beat me in Gwen i don't care how powerful he is~
But when you think about it O'dimm isn't truly evil,he reflect a person ugliest side to them,it might be for his amusement but he's honest because as we can see from the end of HoS his rules also applied to him to keep the game fair.

Honestly I feel like they could make Gaunter the antagonist of the next game, if they wanted to of course
I feel he’s much more interesting as an observer. Besides, why would god care?
@@somedude6833 Because he delights in watching people suffer.
i think he works better as he is, i would prefer him have more presence in the next game but i wouldn't want him to actually be an enemy. rather a person who influences key parts of the story and larger world. he did say if he ever needs help again he'll call on a witcher, and while they're a dying order, in the best and probably canon ending, Ciri becomes her own version of a Witcher
When geralt asked about o dimms name, gaunter "spared" geralt because knowing his name would have left geralt with either being dead or even suffer a worse fate.

I’ve always bien in love with the concept of a deal with the devil
But g.o.d is just perfect. He’s so scary yet you never feel treated by him because you know your following the rules and playing the game
You always know that you’re dancing in the edge of the blade and I love it
Save for one thing. He's all about reflections and is called Master Mirror. Was could be seen as a reflection of god or the reverse image?
I also love that hes in the background of a lot of cut scenes throughout the expansion, and the first time I played I didnt see him once because i didnt know that and my second playthrough I thought i was seein things when i noticed him dressed as one the guards who confront you at one point, gave me chills
These videos keep getting better. Well done!
Thanks dude!! Glad you think so. I know it won’t be the most viewed one but it was one I really wanted to make :)
Best written villain in all of gaming.
We may never know how many victims have outsmarted gaunter except geralt. What surprised me was how gaunter spoke in a tongue.
Be really cool to see him return in Witcher 4
Gaunter’s riddle was probably the fastest I ever solved a riddle. Immediately I figured that it was a mirror
In my head canon guanter is forsure the biblical devil. Maybe due to magic being more of a thing in the Witcher universe he can exercise his powers in a more direct way that here?
Gaunter o dimm to me is like clavicus vile, but a more sinister 1 of him
I know what he is.
Damm time to play the witcher again
He is one of the best antagonists that I have seen in video games.
One of the most characters that every time that I see my heart always pounds like hell for
He’s such an intelligent character.
Hate how some of Geralts situations hes in totally ignore the fact he is adept at magic. Like mind control for example. Lol
i love that in blood and wine, you get a trace of him too, and that he is the reason for emhyr var emris to become the person he is, sinse he made the usurper kill emhyrs father
Can you talk about his cards in gwent maybe there is more lore we can get from the images of the cards ?
The most terrifying being we have yes seen in the witcher series, a chaotic neutral god above all vampires demons and men.
Gaunter isn't behind the conjunction, he's clearly less powerful than that, as he can't even locate Ciri.
G. O. D. is a cautionary tale of the result of everlasting omnipotence
Gaunter odimm was creepy his true from is scary
Personally i think Gaunter O'Dimm is an incredibly powerful warlock who likely got trapped in this dimension during the conjuction of the spheres.
Gonna assume he's from a magical order much much higher than what humans and elves could attain.

“Did you know that Master Mirror (Gaunter O’Dimm) in The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone speaks a phrase in Georgian during the ending? He says: ‘შენ გგონია, მომიგე? არა…’ which translates to ‘You think you beat me? No…’ It’s fascinating how the developers included such a unique linguistic touch!
This video is approved sir WiseFish.
My god I totally forgot about the meeting with gaunter in white orchard
Awesome job with the info and editing in this! Ole Gaunter really is a cool character and powerful. Well played.
Very true! I did both tbh so yeah, I think if I was really in that situation I wouldn’t have gone against Gaunter even if I cared about Olgierd
@@WiseFish That and the item of infinite booze was hard to argue against.
Death was always his fate though. Remember the children rime? Creepy af.
Awesome video mate, keep up the good work.
Fun fact: the language gaunter o Dimm is speaking is Georgian and he roughly translates to “you think you have beaten me, but I will return”

Where was the professor peeing and pooping the whole time he was stuck inside the circle lol
a deadric prince perhaps
Instead of just retelling the DLC you could have gone deeper into the origins of the tale which comes from Polish folklore
Me personally I think he’s somewhat of a trickster god who preys on those who need help.
Maybe hes both, the Devil and God? Coz he deffo shows Devil like characteristics
YUSSSS!!!
Again, thank you !
God doesn't grant wishes, ever. So think about it.
He doesn’t grant wishes, but he answers prayers.
amazing video ! try giving the unseen elder a go please
"Hearth of Stone" might be inspired by the fairytale "the cold hearth" told in "tavern in Spessart" (og. "Wirtshaus im Spessart") by Wilhelm Hauff
it's actually "Hearts of Stone" in reference to Olgierd specifically, who's heart became cold and unmoving as a result of his pact.
Beware the broken spoon!
Why does the title of Gaunter even matter?
He is powerful, extremely powerful and truly evil. Demon, devil, a god?
The beauty in it is that it doesnt matter, only that you recognize how dangerous and evil he is.
The devil went down to temeria he was looking for a soul to steal he was in a bind and running way behind and looking to make a deal when he came upon this Witcher sawing on a drowner and burning it hot and he said boy let me tell you what…
Gaunter O'Dim "GOD"
The Master of Mirrors. He's God's reflection.
"A master mirror"
"No blow can harm me"
A reflection...in the water.
I think he just stops most movement in the area at that moment cause when he puts the fly in that soup it continues to float around, that and the way the people there look more like their holding place than stuck.
i wonder if the shadowy figures from his Gwent cards have anything do with him and how.
