60-year-old retired electronics engineer and programmer here... You took me right back to my childhood when you hypothesized that LED might be attached with wires. You had me hoping it was, but my experience told me it was soldered to the PC board. Your idea of making his nose light up with it tells me you've got an engineer inside you somewhere. Whether you want to break a thousand more things to find out for sure is another question : ) Great job as usual.
Glad to hear your thoughts on having a physical metronome, rather than phone app, because I bought one for my granddaughter. I find I make the best progress when I practice with the metronome.
Great job. David Bowie did a record back in 1967 called "the Laughing Gnome" which includes endless Gnome puns including a "metrognome" whose name was Fred. Just a suggestion.
Yep... you are officially amazing! I have a metronome like yours that gave it's life for the engineering cause. I never use it because it sounds like yours. AS old as I am, the one you grafted into Metrognome, (a fine name in it's own right I might say) sounds just perfectly metronome like. I have learned by many methods over the decades and for old timey music it always helped me. Best wishes on lessons! Old Timer Sam!
When my son, now 25, was a baby in his 'bouncy seat', my wife and I were part of a hammered dulcimer quartet. The little guy liked to kick his legs and bounce while we played and some members swore he was kicking in time with the music. We started calling him the metrognome. It's too tempting a pun. Nice job.
Great job, Doc! A friend of mine uses a device with a hot wire to cut our church's Chrismon ornaments, which are made of Styrofoam. It makes a clean cut. I will have to send you a picture. Blessings! ❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Phoebe, really enjoyed this video of your metrognome ! A hot knife is best for cutting foam or if you haven't got a hot knife a soldering iron would do a nice job, just make sure the room is ventilated as fumes are not nice. Keep up the great work. And some tutorials and TIPS would be AMAZING ! ❤
I love your Metrognome! So clever and fun to watch his metamorphosis. I am drawing a blank about a name! Maybe Gnomeo like in the cute Gnome movie? His heart beats for Juliet, lol! 💜
I love your metrognome! You are quite the crafts-woman in addition to your extraordinary skills as a banjo player. As far as a name for your creation, may I suggest Marvin? It just seems to fit somehow.
You have the gift of problem solving and creativity. I played my drums along with you playing and I am confident that I could accompany you with my washboard. So when you become famous and travel to Australia if you need a washboard player I will be available. :)
You can give him a speech bubble so he says, "I'm a metrometrognome." That would make him a metametrometrognome. I was thinking you could add the brim as well as the band and buckle to give him kind of a Gandalf look. That's just me thinking, though. It looks great as is!
The Bible says we are made in His image and likeness, He being the Creator...creativity is one of the attributes we inherited. Blessings and Shalom in Him
You could also use the metro"gnome" in the garden to help you plant seeds in perfect time. 😄 You could probably make a few dollars by making and selling those.
That's incredibly creative! I'm shocked that no one's come up with that before, but that's amazing! He'll make practice into a party 🥳 For a name, how about Synchro Sam or Steady Sam?
I love the idea of a metrognome. Maybe I’ll make one, too (with my own design). If I do, I’ll give you inventor’s credit- you deserve praise, not ignominy. If that flashing LED panel behind your gnome has a speed adjustment, you could use it as a metrognome, too.
In Montreal (and Paris) the subway system is call the Metro. So the joke has been "what do you call a little guy in the Montreal subway? A Metro Gnome!". [end Dad joke] 😄
Such a cool project! Fractured Fairy Tales often has a furry gnome with a big hat carrying the sign at the end of the story. Not sure how to post a picture here, so good luck!
I'm 81 seconds in and amazed by what you're saying. For a couple months now, I've been wanting to compliment you on the clockwork consistency of your timing. Comparison: The Beatles are my favorite band, and their tempo varies much more than yours.
Hi Phoebe, the best tool to cut or carve foam with are hot foam knives. I see Cosplayers making armor out of high end crafting foam and they all use heated foam carving knives.
I looked around on the internet and couldn't find such a thing, so this does appear to be a unique idea. Looks like something that could be a product 🙂
Very cool. In case this helps, think of the slide thing like measuring cups, you set the tempo by “reading” the flat top of the metronome. So by matching the sliding thing to where the top matches the 90 line, means you are matching the tempo of the piece (say a half note = 90). Anyone who uses a decimal place (I.e. a quarter note = 90.8 beats) goes straight to the ninth level of hell.

You might both enjoy "The Things We Make" by Bill Hammack. Fun book that goes into what makes an enginerd :)
Good luck with the gnomenclature
Well... "Tick-Tock" comes to mind 🤣
I was not a fan of the metronome at first, but after using it a while, I kind of enjoyed it! Cute project.
Loved this. Great to see it from idea to execution, and he turned out great! Hard to top just naming him "metrognome."
Fits your whole aesthetic perfectly! Nice work.
Glad to hear your thoughts on having a physical metronome, rather than phone app, because I bought one for my granddaughter. I find I make the best progress when I practice with the metronome.
I HAVE ONE OF THESE ALREADY!! My sister made it for me, and now I bring it to my piano lessons I teach, and the kids love it so much.
So cool! I want one! Thanks. So fun!

Phred!

I knew I liked it here ❤
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
"There's a lot of beans in his bottom" is not something I thought I would ever hear on this channel. :D
Great job, Doc! A friend of mine uses a device with a hot wire to cut our church's Chrismon ornaments, which are made of Styrofoam. It makes a clean cut. I will have to send you a picture. Blessings! ❤❤❤❤❤

Those urban city gnomes do keep better time than those country gnomes.😀
What a great idea. I can’t believe I’ve never thought of this. Very clever.
Oh my gosh!
That was a fun project to watch and the results is a very good looking and useful metro gnome
You could use a PVC pipe a sandbag for the bottom to keep him stable
All your Metro Gnome needs now is skinny jeans! That is pretty cool. I like it a lot.
this is so cool!!
awesome! Of course, Elvis and Kit Kat are keeping a good beat behind you.
All hail the Great Metro-Gnome!!! OMG my cheeks hurt so much from lmao. 🤣😂😂🤣
I would call the gnome Thyme. In the garden he tends the herbs and for you he keeps the time.
Thanks!
Thank YOU!
Know what you are? A genius!❤
100% agree. Very Cleaver
Brilliant! Love the metrognome! You could name him Tempo.... ;)
Well, if nothing else, Phoebe, this was a good hands-on intro to engineering. 😅
Metrognome? Clever!
🤩
"There's a lot of beans down there." I'm thinking t shirts and merchandising opportunities. Thanks Phoebe!
Cool. At the risk of being unduly obvious, I reckon you should call him Klaus Zwischenticher.
I love your Metrognome! So clever and fun to watch his metamorphosis. I am drawing a blank about a name! Maybe Gnomeo like in the cute Gnome movie? His heart beats for Juliet, lol! 💜
Phoebe! You are so cool. I love your music, but this video was a kick in its own right. Thank you for your youthful exuberance. Go Phoebe.
I used an electric knife when I made cushions for the camper! Might work for stiff foam also. Love the gnome!
I love your metrognome! You are quite the crafts-woman in addition to your extraordinary skills as a banjo player. As far as a name for your creation, may I suggest Marvin? It just seems to fit somehow.
Not only a really good Banjo player. But also cleaver at Making * Things* Well Done
So fun!! Thanks for the peak into your creativity and innovation...and great music.
You have the gift of problem solving and creativity. I played my drums along with you playing and I am confident that I could accompany you with my washboard. So when you become famous and travel to Australia if you need a washboard player I will be available. :)

Es genial, gran proyecto es creativo
I LOVE that idea and you executed it so well! I think Gustavo would be a fitting name, like the Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel
Definitely a 10 on the awesomeness scale!
I guess I would call that little thing that goes back and forth a pendulum and then what I call the little thingy that goes up and down is a wight
True that using the metronome is not fun, but watching and listening to you create maestro metrognome was very fun . I like the way your mind works
The Bible says we are made in His image and likeness, He being the Creator...creativity is one of the attributes we inherited.
Blessings and Shalom in Him
What a cool video. You are a well spoke young lady.
I like your gnome _and_ I second the motion to have more making-stuff videos!
What a fun project, most enjoyable, thank you!!!
Christmas 🎄 time ⏲ gnomes? $ound a little ELF ISH.
How fun, Phoebe!
He's a super gnome! Perfect.
You could also use the metro"gnome" in the garden to help you plant seeds in perfect time. 😄 You could probably make a few dollars by making and selling those.
Would that be thyme seeds?😀
Heat a butter knife with a torch and will melt the foam away.
Come on,ask dad!
Very clever, indeed! I’m looking forward to hearing/seeing the solo that inspired your creativity. Well done!
Gnome is where the heart is.
That's incredibly creative! I'm shocked that no one's come up with that before, but that's amazing! He'll make practice into a party 🥳 For a name, how about Synchro Sam or Steady Sam?
SO CREATIVE! Love it! MORE DIY VIDEOS! TOOL REVIEWS! WOOT!
Your creativity is very inspiring . . . especially your Music. Thank you for sharing that wonderful art
Great wild imagination!
Very clever! It was nice watching the creative process. Your persistence paid off.
I love the idea of a metrognome. Maybe I’ll make one, too (with my own design). If I do, I’ll give you inventor’s credit- you deserve praise, not ignominy.

You're a treat!
In Montreal (and Paris) the subway system is call the Metro. So the joke has been "what do you call a little guy in the Montreal subway? A Metro Gnome!". [end Dad joke] 😄
Awesome! loved the whole process as you brainstormed the thing. ❤❤❤. I'll leave others to name it. Frail on.
Very funny and creative. You are very punny!
Had a need, thought it out, solved the problem. Very creative thanks for the share. It’s good to see smart people doing smart stuff.
Such a cool project! Fractured Fairy Tales often has a furry gnome with a big hat carrying the sign at the end of the story. Not sure how to post a picture here, so good luck!
That is sweet, and hip-shaking Elvis approves.
Trony is also a metrognome by being from metropolitan L.A.
You are remarkably pretty, having so much to tell. I could listen to your stories the whole day everyday.
We are banjo players. We ARE the metrognomes! ❤🪕❤
I like your Metrognome!
That's incredible, I love it! I'm a big fan of puns too 😂
"It's not fun" just sums up so much 😂
Great solo!
Cutting foam with a hot knife or screwdriver
I'm 81 seconds in and amazed by what you're saying. For a couple months now, I've been wanting to compliment you on the clockwork consistency of your timing.

He might like some sunglasses... TOOOOOOOOOO, COOOOOOOOOOOL

Where do I get a WD-40 mug? That's awesome.
You are a Fun Player. Surely a Fun Friend. Still Listening ! Still Loving !!
I have always been partial to naming a Gnome Chompski.
The coolest nome ever

Maybe you could. Metrodome your Elves figure too?
This is genius
Oh gnome you didn't! 😂😂
Wonderful
Nice ❤
I wonder who keeps beat better Elvis or the Cat on the wall? Maybe the dipping duck😂
you are amazing.
How about “Maestro” - your personal conductor - your keeper of the time! (p.s. Nice job! Fascinating watching the creative process at work👍🏼)
That looks like me,minus the hat.😂😂😂
Surely this is a good prototype for future Phoebe merch. Maybe with the name Be-be? Phoebe's Be-be?
